I was very pleased with Buddy's pizza. Buddy's is celebrating 80 years this year. It is impressive to see a renowned business actually keep up the quality of their food. The Detroit style, pan pizza lived up the the hype. We actually ordered way too much food! The pizza was delicious. The salad was fresh, and the buddy bread was filling. The service was friendly and efficient. I would go back again if I ever find myself in Detroit.

We had a good dining experience here! Never had a Detroit style pizza- I'm more of a New York style fan! However, it was good! An 8 square was perfect for two adults and two kids! We also tried the buddy bread and the kids liked it! I would return, but wouldn't crave it back at home I don't think!

We stopped here on a whim while downtown. It was pretty quiet on a Tuesday so we were seated right away. I like the atmosphere - very much a pizza joint with a variety of seating options. Our server was Faith and she was great - friendly and upbeat. I ordered the Build Your Own 4-square with Black Olives and Asiago Cheese. The pizza was really tasty! And the amount was perfect - took 2 slices home for lunch the next day. I highly recommend this location and the pizza!

Both pizzas were fresh and delicious. We were eating second dinner and the precut pieces were great for sharing. Welcoming attitude and fun place.

This location was near the stadium with plenty of seating. The menu offered more than I thought as there was more than just pizza as they had burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, etc. The service was also well appreciated as the food came out quickly and a water spill was quickly cleaned up. The individual antipasto salad ($10.99) and the Detroit PBS 4 square ($15.99) were ordered. The salad had chopped romaine and iceberg lettuce with imported ham, salami, and Wisconsin brick cheese. I could not believe how big this was given it was just an individual portion. They appeared to be fresh ingredients with a simple vinaigrette dressing. It was nicely done. The Detroit PBS was Detroit style pizza with original pepperoni under their Motor City cheese blend with Old World pepperoni on top. This was very solid. The edges were very crispy with a good amount of sauce and cheese. The cup and crisp pepperoni added to the crispiness factor. It was a well-done pizza. Will I go back? I would.

The pizza was good. The service was not. Whenever I visit a new place I like to try native eats. I understand Buddy's is one of Detroit's original pizzas. The pizza was good. The location is great. The design is good. There were many employees and it seemed constant -- constant, not busy. I left my headphones and asked a server to simply ask if any of her co-workers had any. A half hour later, I asked her about headphones again, and she told me the restaurant was busy and she didn't ask. I thought wow -- sister-to-sister, you didn't even bother to ask. I told her I would buy them, rent them, I just needed to jump on a Zoom. I jumped on anyway, I just couldn't participate the way I wanted to. The restaurant has a bar of about a dozen stools. There was one bartender. In all my life, I've never seen a bartender move this slowly. I don't know if it was me, but she definitely found every excuse she could to wait on me last. Most bartenders are very personable, a bit flashy, competent . . . she was slow, flat and dare I say, she doesn't like her job? I was blown away. I'm glad I made it to Buddy's. I will never go back. I will not recommend this location.

The waiter was phenomenal and provided excellent service throughout the meal. We stopped in after the ball game since this place was on my boyfriend's bucket list, and I was excited to finally try it. We ordered the original cheese 4 square pizza. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I was expecting more of a wow factor, but I've had Detroit-style pizza back home that I enjoyed more. The sauce was flavorful, but the crust just wasn't my favorite. On the positive side, the Buddy's Brew was quite tasty. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and seemed very family-friendly, making it a great option for families looking for a bite after a game at Comerica.

Buddy's Pizza was spectacular! This restaurant is excellent for big groups and perfect if you want to catch any big games while eating delicious pizza. The pizzas were amazing! Detroit style square pies are my favorite and Buddy's did not disappoint. I actually had 3 slices COLD the next morning and it tasted even better. The quality of the dough and toppings was superb. The drinks were also amazing! It was my first time drinking in almost 5 months and the cocktails were really good. One of my gfs asked for an adjustment on our espresso martinis and the bartenders obliged no problem. The service here is excellent. If I'm ever back in Detroit one of my first stops will be Buddy's!

Must try: Detroiter! Why: That's some dang good pizza! Detroiter had Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni, tomato basil sauce, and Parmesan cheese. There was a nice subtle spice kick to it. Love the crispy edges and gooey cheese. Savored each bite and devoured all 4 pieces. Notes: I ordered via DoorDash and it originally said 30 mins but it was done in less than 20 mins. Worker was welcoming and friendly at takeout counter. I took it back to my hotel only a couple blocks away and the pizza was still hot. Def coming back for more when I'm back in town.

I had 2 good experiences at Buddys. First we went thru the carry out/express door so we started ordering with the girl and she was very nice and gave us different recommendations until we found out we were on the wrong side and decided to go to the restaurant side. At the restaurant side we chose the recommendations given by the first person except we chose to keep the salad dressing that came with the salad. I will say everything was very good. Our server was very attentive. We decided to order the Super 6 Mile and added banana peppers and took out the ham. We also added the Greek salad to share. Both items were a hit. We really liked our food. The ambiance was cool they were showing the Pistons v Cavs game so everyone was entertained. The biggest surprise of the night was when it came time to get the check the waitress said that the gentleman that was next to us paid our bill and didn't want the waitress to tell us he did. That has never happened b4 we were so grateful. After posting on Tik tok they say this is a regular thing that happens in Detroit. Thank you if you ever see this. We truly appreciate it & thanked you on tik tok & ig. Never experienced that act of kindness and we will certainly pay it forward.

So I'm not gonna lie. I was a little bit disappointed in this round of Buddy's Pizza. Typically I have no problem with them but maybe this wasn't a good day. It wasn't even the food because the pizza was okay. The service really didn't hit it off for me at all though. It was a late night and it was about to be closing time in the next hour from when I was sitting down but I only sat at the bar just to grab a bite. I didn't even want any drinks. We sat down and we waited for water for a while and then it took a while to get our order taken, which was already inconvenient. I could see that we were the inconvenience because the bartender was already cleaning up so we weren't getting as much attention as we could have gotten. Even though we didn't really want anything except to put in an order for food. The bartender acted like we were stopping him from working to close the bar, which I can understand. At the same time you're not supposed to let your customers know that you feel a way about them sitting down. The food came super late as well so that also was not really a good experience. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to get one pizza pie out of the oven especially when it's an empty restaurant, just about because everybody's about to leave so there wasn't a crowd. The only thing that I give 3 stars as a par for is just because the pizza was pretty good but for everything else I wasn't super pleased last time I was at home. It was opening day weekend the last time I was there and I am sure that everybody was taking a beating because downtown was so lively but at the same time you never let your customers know.

Detroiter - Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, shaved Parmesan cheese and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend
    Amanda S.

This was everything I imagined it would be. I chose the 4 square Detroiter (Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, shaved Parmesan cheese and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend, $15.99) and it was so damn good. Packed with incredible seasoning and flavor, the cheese was layered on nice and thick, and the toppings generous. The edges were crispy but not crunchy. 10/10 all the wayyyyy!!!

Walked into Buddy's around 5pm on a Sunday and waited maybe 15 minutes for a table. Service was quick and easy to order. It was busy but seats were turned over quickly. Buddy's has an extremely clear allergen menu online with so many eggless items on their menu, We ordered the eastern veggie, Greek salad, and a Michigan beer. The individual size Greek salad was a good serving size that could feed two of us as a starter. The garlic parm dressing was creamy and garlicky. The 4 square pizza was filling and delicious. We added jalapeños and although they were picked they were actually quite spicy. The pizza came out hot and crispy - especially the cheese on the crust. The sauce was well balanced. All in all I would say for someone that doesn't always enjoy Detroit pizza this is a place to try while in Detroit.

The egg was overcooked and only jammy and not runny, and the croissant which had the steak on it was super oily and gross. There is a reason why a biscuit or english muffin is used in this dish, so whoever decided a croissant was a good idea is not smart, or eating the current weekend chef's food. The potato frites super greasy and oily as well as cold. Draining them on a paper towel would have been clutch. We had other entrees that no one finished because of the quality and taste of the food. It would have been helpful if the kitchen staff put the food under a salamander or heat light. If they have one of these, it certainly wasn't working that day in proper order. This is not a place I would ever go to brunch again. Maybe I would try dinner have one of their cheaper dinners as the $34 benny was overpriced and underperforming. I am giving this place three stars rather than one because the service was great unlike the food.

When you walk in, you get the Alpine vibes right away - carved wood, wood beams, a fireplace... It's beautiful but very comfortable. My mom is vegan, and Alpino's menu had several veganizable options for her (marked on the menu). She had a veganized chicory salad (bitter greens, golden apple, Comté cheese, pecan, and juniper maple citronette - they removed the cheese) and a veganized rösti (Swiss potato pancake, smoked salmon, crème fraîche, and mustard greens - they removed the smoked salmon and crème fraîche). My stepdad and I shared their carne salada (house-cured wagyu beef, crispy potatoes, rafano, and herbs, which was great. He enjoyed their chicken goulasch (Amich chicken thigh, paprika and tomato gravy, spätzle, and crème fraîche), while I fell in love with their Wienerschnitzel (breaded veal cutlet, morel rahmsauce, and pickled mustard seeds). Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert, because the food overall was great. Since my parents don't drink, I had a designated driver and so was determined to order a lot of their great wine. I had one glass of orange wine from Krasno in Slovenia and then two glasses of Grüner Veltliner from the Franz Etz estate in Austria. It was just ok and thought they were going to reinvent the fish sandwich but there is definitely other items that were very good. We also decided to go back yesterday for happy hour and sat at the bar and Brynn and Kelsey provided the best service I have had in a long time. They made the best martinis and were so fun and friendly! Our friends were celebrating their anniversary and we all had such a great time talking with them. I mentioned that we didn't a candle with our dessert the week before and they surprised us with pistachio gelato with a candle! It was so thoughtful and we were so thankful for the surprise! We definitely will be back for the happy and the great bar service!

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.
