Detroiter - Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, shaved Parmesan cheese and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend
    Amanda S.

This was everything I imagined it would be. I chose the 4 square Detroiter (Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, shaved Parmesan cheese and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend, $15.99) and it was so damn good. Packed with incredible seasoning and flavor, the cheese was layered on nice and thick, and the toppings generous. The edges were crispy but not crunchy. 10/10 all the wayyyyy!!!

The pizza was good. The service was not. Whenever I visit a new place I like to try native eats. I understand Buddy's is one of Detroit's original pizzas. The pizza was good. The location is great. The design is good. There were many employees and it seemed constant -- constant, not busy. I left my headphones and asked a server to simply ask if any of her co-workers had any. A half hour later, I asked her about headphones again, and she told me the restaurant was busy and she didn't ask. I thought wow -- sister-to-sister, you didn't even bother to ask. I told her I would buy them, rent them, I just needed to jump on a Zoom. I jumped on anyway, I just couldn't participate the way I wanted to. The restaurant has a bar of about a dozen stools. There was one bartender. In all my life, I've never seen a bartender move this slowly. I don't know if it was me, but she definitely found every excuse she could to wait on me last. Most bartenders are very personable, a bit flashy, competent . . . she was slow, flat and dare I say, she doesn't like her job? I was blown away. I'm glad I made it to Buddy's. I will never go back. I will not recommend this location.

The waiter was phenomenal and provided excellent service throughout the meal. We stopped in after the ball game since this place was on my boyfriend's bucket list, and I was excited to finally try it. We ordered the original cheese 4 square pizza. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I was expecting more of a wow factor, but I've had Detroit-style pizza back home that I enjoyed more. The sauce was flavorful, but the crust just wasn't my favorite. On the positive side, the Buddy's Brew was quite tasty. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and seemed very family-friendly, making it a great option for families looking for a bite after a game at Comerica.

Must try: Detroiter! Why: That's some dang good pizza! Detroiter had Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni, tomato basil sauce, and Parmesan cheese. There was a nice subtle spice kick to it. Love the crispy edges and gooey cheese. Savored each bite and devoured all 4 pieces. Notes: I ordered via DoorDash and it originally said 30 mins but it was done in less than 20 mins. Worker was welcoming and friendly at takeout counter. I took it back to my hotel only a couple blocks away and the pizza was still hot. Def coming back for more when I'm back in town.

Buddy's Pizza was spectacular! This restaurant is excellent for big groups and perfect if you want to catch any big games while eating delicious pizza. The pizzas were amazing! Detroit style square pies are my favorite and Buddy's did not disappoint. I actually had 3 slices COLD the next morning and it tasted even better. The quality of the dough and toppings was superb. The drinks were also amazing! It was my first time drinking in almost 5 months and the cocktails were really good. One of my gfs asked for an adjustment on our espresso martinis and the bartenders obliged no problem. The service here is excellent. If I'm ever back in Detroit one of my first stops will be Buddy's!

I had 2 good experiences at Buddys. First we went thru the carry out/express door so we started ordering with the girl and she was very nice and gave us different recommendations until we found out we were on the wrong side and decided to go to the restaurant side. At the restaurant side we chose the recommendations given by the first person except we chose to keep the salad dressing that came with the salad. I will say everything was very good. Our server was very attentive. We decided to order the Super 6 Mile and added banana peppers and took out the ham. We also added the Greek salad to share. Both items were a hit. We really liked our food. The ambiance was cool they were showing the Pistons v Cavs game so everyone was entertained. The biggest surprise of the night was when it came time to get the check the waitress said that the gentleman that was next to us paid our bill and didn't want the waitress to tell us he did. That has never happened b4 we were so grateful. After posting on Tik tok they say this is a regular thing that happens in Detroit. Thank you if you ever see this. We truly appreciate it & thanked you on tik tok & ig. Never experienced that act of kindness and we will certainly pay it forward.

So I'm not gonna lie. I was a little bit disappointed in this round of Buddy's Pizza. Typically I have no problem with them but maybe this wasn't a good day. It wasn't even the food because the pizza was okay. The service really didn't hit it off for me at all though. It was a late night and it was about to be closing time in the next hour from when I was sitting down but I only sat at the bar just to grab a bite. I didn't even want any drinks. We sat down and we waited for water for a while and then it took a while to get our order taken, which was already inconvenient. I could see that we were the inconvenience because the bartender was already cleaning up so we weren't getting as much attention as we could have gotten. Even though we didn't really want anything except to put in an order for food. The bartender acted like we were stopping him from working to close the bar, which I can understand. At the same time you're not supposed to let your customers know that you feel a way about them sitting down. The food came super late as well so that also was not really a good experience. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to get one pizza pie out of the oven especially when it's an empty restaurant, just about because everybody's about to leave so there wasn't a crowd. The only thing that I give 3 stars as a par for is just because the pizza was pretty good but for everything else I wasn't super pleased last time I was at home. It was opening day weekend the last time I was there and I am sure that everybody was taking a beating because downtown was so lively but at the same time you never let your customers know.

I was wanting to try some Detroit style pizza and Buddys had good reviews. We were seated quickly and our server Kennedy was very friendly. Since it was our first time she made some recommendations. We decided on 1/2 Detroit's and half chicken BBQ. Hubs tried the Bocce IPA and loved it. The pizzas came out relatively fast given the place was busy. The BBQ chicken pizza was a-sweet tasting sauce with lots of chicken cubes. The Detroit's was my favorite as it had a spicy sauce. The atmosphere is like a sports bar, loud, lots of tv's and plenty of seating for large groups.

Walked into Buddy's around 5pm on a Sunday and waited maybe 15 minutes for a table. Service was quick and easy to order. It was busy but seats were turned over quickly. Buddy's has an extremely clear allergen menu online with so many eggless items on their menu, We ordered the eastern veggie, Greek salad, and a Michigan beer. The individual size Greek salad was a good serving size that could feed two of us as a starter. The garlic parm dressing was creamy and garlicky. The 4 square pizza was filling and delicious. We added jalapeños and although they were picked they were actually quite spicy. The pizza came out hot and crispy - especially the cheese on the crust. The sauce was well balanced. All in all I would say for someone that doesn't always enjoy Detroit pizza this is a place to try while in Detroit.

Buddys has been serving up authentic Detroit style square pizzas for awhile now. This location is in the heart of downtown Detroit. It is a great place to watch a game with plenty of TVs in the restaurant. They have many speciality pizzas to choose from. While also serving up sides like wings, pasta salads, and sandwiches. The pizza is where they really shine and if you want to get true authentic Detroit style pizza you can't go wrong here.

Alright y'all, here we go with another episode of Just How Food Goes While I was out in Detroit, we decided to stop by Buddy's Pizza, and let me tell y'all... this outing was about way more than just the food The laughs were nonstop from the moment we sat down. Between the conversations, the jokes, and me minding my business recording on my phone, somebody almost took me out! One minute I'm filming and the next minute I'm over here yelling, "She tried to kill me!" Y'all know how those moments go when you're with good people and everybody is having a great time. Now let's talk about the pizza. Detroit is known for its pizza, so of course I had to see what the hype was about. The food was fresh, the atmosphere was welcoming, and honestly the entire experience just felt like one of those memories you'll be laughing about long after it's over. One thing I love about traveling is getting to experience places through the people you're with. Sure, the food matters, but sometimes it's the conversations around the table, the unexpected jokes, and the moments you never planned that make the experience unforgettable. Detroit has been showing me a good time, and this stop at Buddy's Pizza was no exception. Great food, great company, and plenty of laughs. What more could you ask for? That's Just How Life Goes... and of course, Just How Food Goes. Buddy's Pizza gets a 9 out of 10!

This was a non-negotiable during our trip to Detroit. Before I knew anything else about this place, I knew about their pizza and knew that I had to try it (you're reading the writing of someone who has tried St. Louis pizza ffs). We basically stepped off of the plane and into Buddy's. We checked into the hotel and walked around the corner and into one of Buddy's booths. They have smaller pizzas if you're alone or want to save room for some other shit. We ordered a 4 square of the original but they had a thinner option and a whole wheat option, both of them intrigued me and I wish I was around long enough to sample them all. It is INCREDIBLE. I mean the crust's edge has a crisp bite that deserves its own word. The crust is almost spongey, the cheese is plentiful and creamy, and the sauce was delicious with a tanginess that pulls it all together. We also tried the cheese sticks that come with a ranch dressing that makes me question ranch I've had everywhere else. Also delicious. Even Buddy's brew, their house beer, is really good. Do they goldbelly lmao

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

And I have to say there's nothing more comforting when I'm alone than a strong female bar staff! My receipt says Hannah but I think the two women were working on the same tab- not sure who I had but she recommended all of the very best things Two cocktails: el pepino and the Kennedy, compressed watermelon/beet app and the rigatoni plus tax and tip (22%) and I was around $100 and it was worth every dollar!

The decor is so cool and comfortable. The food was first rate, but what really made our visit so awesome was the friendliness and professionalism of the wonderful people who work there. First of all our waiter Scott, just a really fun guy who was so personable. He took such great care of us and seriously made our night!! All the other people we met were also great; they had a family vibe where you could tell they really liked each other. Everything we had was delicious and well prepared. The meatball, the watermelon and beet salad, the veal parmigiana.....yummy!! The desserts were over the top as well. We eat out quite a bit and this is the best restaurant we've been to in years!! The food, the atmosphere, the staff; all top notch!! You must try this place out, it's tha bomb!!

My uncle suggested Roman Village, and I'm so glad he did. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we were impressed by both the incredible hospitality and the amazing food. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the quality exceeded our expectations. If you're in the Detroit area, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed!

Several of my team members rave about this restaurant…read more For our team picnic we ordered chafing dish size bread sticks, three containers worth, two house salad and two Caesar salads in chafing dishes. Some of the Romaine lettuce in both salads were brown. The croutons should have been separate, they were soggy after an hour or so. The base of the chafing dishes had quite a bit of water at the bottom and made the lettuce quite wilted quickly. Their house salad has green olives, red onion, carrot shredded, tomatoes and I only saw one pepperoncini. The bread sticks were chewy and good and tasted good with their house ranch sauce too. The better part is the food was able to be picked up earlier than most places.
