I could not believe how big this was given it was just an individual portion. They appeared to be fresh ingredients with a simple vinaigrette dressing. It was nicely done. The Detroit PBS was Detroit style pizza with original pepperoni under their Motor City cheese blend with Old World pepperoni on top. This was very solid. The design is good. There were many employees and it seemed constant -- constant, not busy. I left my headphones and asked a server to simply ask if any of her co-workers had any. A half hour later, I asked her about headphones again, and she told me the restaurant was busy and she didn't ask. I thought wow -- sister-to-sister, you didn't even bother to ask. I told her I would buy them, rent them, I just needed to jump on a Zoom. I jumped on anyway, I just couldn't participate the way I wanted to. The restaurant has a bar of about a dozen stools. There was one bartender. In all my life, I've never seen a bartender move this slowly. I don't know if it was me, but she definitely found every excuse she could to wait on me last. I had 2 good experiences at Buddys. First we went thru the carry out/express door so we started ordering with the girl and she was very nice and gave us different recommendations until we found out we were on the wrong side and decided to go to the restaurant side. At the restaurant side we chose the recommendations given by the first person except we chose to keep the salad dressing that came with the salad. I will say everything was very good. Our server was very attentive. We decided to order the Super 6 Mile and added banana peppers and took out the ham. We also added the Greek salad to share. Both items were a hit. We really liked our food. The ambiance was cool they were showing the Pistons v Cavs game so everyone was entertained. The biggest surprise of the night was when it came time to get the check the waitress said that the gentleman that was next to us paid our bill and didn't want the waitress to tell us he did. So I'm not gonna lie. I was a little bit disappointed in this round of Buddy's Pizza. Typically I have no problem with them but maybe this wasn't a good day. It wasn't even the food because the pizza was okay. The service really didn't hit it off for me at all though. It was a late night and it was about to be closing time in the next hour from when I was sitting down but I only sat at the bar just to grab a bite. I didn't even want any drinks. We sat down and we waited for water for a while and then it took a while to get our order taken, which was already inconvenient. I could see that we were the inconvenience because the bartender was already cleaning up so we weren't getting as much attention as we could have gotten. Even though we didn't really want anything except to put in an order for food. The bartender acted like we were stopping him from working to close the bar, which I can understand. At the same time you're not supposed to let your customers know that you feel a way about them sitting down. The food came super late as well so that also was not really a good experience. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to get one pizza pie out of the oven especially when it's an empty restaurant, just about because everybody's about to leave so there wasn't a crowd. The only thing that I give 3 stars as a par for is just because the pizza was pretty good but for everything else I wasn't super pleased last time I was at home. Between the conversations, the jokes, and me minding my business recording on my phone, somebody almost took me out! One minute I'm filming and the next minute I'm over here yelling, "She tried to kill me!" Y'all know how those moments go when you're with good people and everybody is having a great time. Now let's talk about the pizza. Detroit is known for its pizza, so of course I had to see what the hype was about. The food was fresh, the atmosphere was welcoming, and honestly the entire experience just felt like one of those memories you'll be laughing about long after it's over. One thing I love about traveling is getting to experience places through the people you're with. We were visiting Detroit for the weekend, and had to try some Detroit style pizza. This was very good. The restaurant was very bright with ample room for seating. The restaurant, though, was extremely warm inside. We were sweating. That part made it a tad uncomfortable. The food was delicious. Pizza was good. Meatballs were great! No complaints at all over the food! The service was a tad awkward. We were not even fully sitting when the waitress came and asked if we were ready to order. When we told her we needed to sit down and look at the menus first, she obliged, walked away for about 1 minute, and then was back. We had the meatballs first, and then the pizza. The server seemed unwilling to take the dirty dishes from the table so we had to hand them to her in order to get them removed from the table. It was all just very awkward. The bar was filled with people, but we were the only group sitting at tables. Halfway through our meal, another family came in to be seated. They sat them directly behind us. It was just a little odd that they couldn't space us out in a big empty open dining room. There is one policy here I do not like, and they add an automatic 20% gratuity on to the bill. We were a party of 3. I understand this policy for bigger parties, but it didn't seem to make sense to me for a small party. I always tip at least 20% so it wasn't the 20% that bothered me, it was that it was super easy to look over. We almost tipped double. Almost tipped double for awkward and mediocre service! Diners should have the freedom to tip based on the service provided, but not here. To make matters worse, our service was weird in general. All in all the food was good. But there were a few things that bring me down 3 stars - I had to wait at the front to be greeted when it was not busy at all and it was unclear if it's self seating or wait-to-be-seated, had to remind my server about something I ordered that wasn't brought out, never received a plate or silverware or napkins, draft menu seemed largely out of date, and I reminded them to split the check after asking once already. I was clearly overwhelmed by the dozen or so topping options and so I asked her for a recommendation. "Do you like blue cheese? It's my favorite. We also have our original." Yes, please. And so Amanda ordered for me, a four cut that was half "Henry Ford" and half "Detroiter." Twenty minutes later, my pizza arrives. Oh, my. This is a little bigger than I expected but wow, it was awesome. Four slices is too much for even a big eater but I ate more than half, enjoying the tang of the blue cheese from the one "cut" and then the meaty greasy goodness of the sausage on the other "cut." Crispy base, doughy center, melty cheese well loaded with toppings. Yes, this is great pizza and perhaps I need to try some other Detroit joints. Until then, isn't it great that we can live in a world where it's okay to say that there are great regional pizzas?
