I've had two terrible experiences with Budget. For one rental, they charged me their maximum $450 "cleaning fee" for leaving a small amount of pet hair in the car -- an absurd amount compared to any other rental company. For a second rental, they sent me a $946.60 "damage fee", claiming I "returned the vehicle with damage or were involved in an incident." They provided no proof whatsoever for either charge, and both notices arrived weeks after the rentals ended. After the first fee, I even called customer service to confirm there were no other pending charges -- and was told everything was fine. Then I received the second bill. I've had to wait anywhere from 1- 2 1/2 hours just to get into the agent office to start where it's another 15 minutes of you just standing there for them to fill out the paper work. I called Budget customer service practically begging them to handle this situation and make this location run more efficiently. Their response is they can't handle it but that I should call the site location directly and ask them to make the necessary changes. in other words, this site is a hopeless cause. This location is horrible. When I arrived to return my car at 4:45 the garage was full and a line out the door. When asked if I needed to wait in line to return my car, Edwin instructed me to give my keys to the security guard. I did as instructed showed the guard where the vehicle was parked on the street. He wrote down the vehicle information and told me I would be emailed a receipt. Fastforward a day I get my receipt, they didn't check the car in until 7PM, that is two hours AFTER I returned the vehicle. So as a result I have been charged an extra day because either they were too busy to check the car in or the guard failed to turn in the vehicle information. I took the time out of my vacation to go speak to Edwin, he assured me the extra day would be taken off...as of today (two weeks from the time it was returned) this has NOT been removed. I am now 6 calls in to customer service, this does not include the 45 minutes I had to wait in line to speak to Edwin. Who by the way assured me that he would get the extra day credited. Oh, and the numbers assigned to this location both online and provided by the CS team just rings. I am a repeat Budget Customer, I have NEVER had issues like this. HORRIBLE! read more

This was the most frustrating rental experience of my life. I had a 9am reservation to pick up my rental and waited in line for over an hour. By the time I received the form to grab the car in the basement, I was given a rental car not within the class of vehicles I reserved. The car was wet from its quick wash and absolutely disgusting inside - crumbs, hair, the whole nine yards. The gas tank was practically empty and it was not properly inspected as within 30 minutes of driving, the front right tire had a low pressure notification. I drove towards a gas station to fill the air with tire, and within 5 minutes the tire was flat. There was no spare tire or tire kit in the rental to attempt to replace it myself. I attempted to call the location 3 times with no answer, and then reached out to Budget via live chat. I was directed to call Roadside Assistance, which was also automated and put in a request for roadside assistance. Roadside assistance did not provide an update for an hour and a half, in which they finally assigned a company that had an ETA 2 hours later. I then tried to contact this location AGAIN as I was heading to a wedding and was on a time crunch. At this point, I had waited multiple hours to receive assistance and had to call a provider on my own to get the tire replaced, as again, there was no spare tire in the vehicle. I spent $275 replacing the tire, and reached out to Customer Care with again, no response. When I returned the vehicle yesterday 9/15, the only individual working was the guard in the basement who was absolutely 0 help and told me he was collecting contracts as no one was working in the office. When I went upstairs to talk to someone in person regarding the tire issues and my out of pocket expenses, the employee literally looked at me, and then walked into the back office and closed the door. No one came back into the office over the next 45 minutes. I still have received no refunds, reimbursements, or communication from this location regarding the faulty vehicle and lack of customer care. Do NOT rent from here. read more

The worst customer service I've encountered at a rental company. When I arrived 3 young ladies entered after me. The person at the counter told them to exit and when they asked if they could wait inside, he said no they couldn't because he was going to ask me personal questions. The man did not ask me any personal questions. He was extremely RUDE and I told him that he was rude and lack customer service skills. He said " I am very direct". There's a big difference between being direct and not having any customer service skills for a position that requires it. I've rented from Budget before, not at this particular location and I've had great experiences. It is this particular location that's getting awful reviews. The car was dirty and needed a wash. I will not return to this location again. Do yourself a favor and read all the negative reviews before patronizing this location. I wish I did, the bad reviews are on point. read more

I picked up my car at LAX. This is my 3rd time renting with Budget and never had a hidden fee issue. They give you a 30 page contract which how are you supposed to read it at the counter. I said no to everything and got the basic package or so I thought. Upon returning the car I had $223 extra added to my card because I supposedly said yes to a personal liability insurance, which I didn't. I specifically said no to everything. Well they cant take the charge off my card because I signed the agreement and now I am disputing the charge with my cc company. Dishonest to do this to customers when they specifically say no to everything. I have always enjoyed Budget service. But this experience really disappointed me. read more

This was the 2nd time they did not have cars and made us and 4 others, all with prepaid reservations like me, waiting outside for hours. They would not even engage with us. We flew in from a 10 hour flight from Rome and went to go get our rental car after standing in line for two hours at customs only to find that budget rental cars had closed their offices early and transferred us to Avis supposedly but there was no transfer done and instead we were left carless in the middle of the night. We transferred our reservation to Avis by ourselves, which is the same company, and proceeded to wait in a line for two hours with two very unhelpful staff members trying to get a car. Our pick up time was supposed to be 11:30 PM. We were at the airport until almost 2 in the morning with two exhausted children and had to drive to Pennsylvania that night. We were so tired it was completely unsafe. This was the worst rental car experience I have ever had in my life. I will never never again use this company. read more

Car wasn't clean on the inside. The trash was pushed under the seat! Wasn't asked if I had a problem with my experience, or anything at drop off. Just take receipt and go. Antiquated equipment. Staff who should be setting up vehicles are not to be doing the job--shouldn't security be there to do one job and not two? No communication between staff in lower level and in office. Yeah, I agree with everyone else - this place is terrible. The only thing good about it is its convenient location. Other than that: - tiny office with only one (extremely slow) employee working on a busy Saturday morning, when everyone under the sun is coming to pick up a car for weekend jaunts. Add on the fact that they are using dot matrix printers or handwriting all their forms, and you are in for an interminable wait. - filthy cars that clearly are not checked when brought in. The car they gave me was an SUV (not what I wanted) filled with candy wrappers and streaks of dirt/chocolate (God I hope that's what it was) with 1/16th of a tank of gas and no EZ Pass. (It was also a Canadian car, so everything was marked in kilometers and liters - I kept thinking I was driving 100 mph.) - super dark/sketchy garage situation. Duplicitous policy! I reserved a car for a Friday through Sunday rental and pre-paid for it so I could visit my father during his last days on earth. It's really a good thing this wasn't a funeral... I had no idea that Budget has a policy where if you don't pick the car up at exactly the time you reserved it, they will give it to the next guy. When I didn't pick it up after just 45 minutes, they just gave it to the next person. There were no more cars left. The staff chuckled. I called phone support. Two different customer service agents told me that was not their policy. One other said it was. Apparently Budget doesn't know what their own policy is and neither do their customers -- because nowhere in the reservation process or in the email confirmation is it stated that you will be royally screw#d by Budget if they can make an extra buck at your expense. I might still use Budget for weekends since their rates are a bit better, but I've already signed up for "the other service" (that I won't endorse here but I'm sure you can figure it out in a zip) for mid week travel. They're way more convenient plus the gas is free. read more

I usually pick up at the Budget at JFK but it's pain getting to/from so I tried this location. What a mistake! They have such a small inventory that you will probably get a much different car than the one you reserved. I rented a compact car and they tried to give me a Ford pick up truck-- as if I could find a parking spot for that bad boy in Brooklyn. On the rental confirmation, it specifically says that I would get a compact car or another model with comparable mileage. A Ford Focus gets 35 mpg and a Ford pick up gets about 22 mpg. When I complained, they said they could give me a SUV but I would have to pay more for the upgrade. WTF??!! Reading the other comments, it seems that this bait and switch is common practice at this location. Luckily, as I was waiting to speak to a manager someone came and dropped off a smaller car. * Updating-- we just dropped off the car. We only had a one day rental and used it only to go one place in the city. We returned it with the same amount of gas as it had when we picked it up. When we dropped it off, the guy asked us if we had filled it, where we had filled it and demanded to see the receipt. What's with the interrogation? Long story short: I ordered a compact sized car and after arriving EARLY, they tried to give me a huge SUV. They also tried to tell me that protocol is to run my card even AFTER I paid and that a hold may be placed. WTF. How are you putting a hold Told me about additional possible holds AFTER I prepaid? This place may actually be a criminal enterprise. Let's see... - I purchased a 4 day rental, returned it in 3 days and a few hours and when I returned they decided to charge me for an extra day. When I asked them why, they realized it made no sense and then just shrugged and walked away. They knew they were scamming me but for them this was normal. -When I actually came in to get the car, they immediately told me the card I gave them wasn't the card used to make the reservation even though it was. They asked to scan all my other VISAs to be sure.... then after about 30 min of scanning all of my cards they scanned the original one again and by golly it worked. They gave zero reason for what had happened. -On top of that - terrible service. They would disappear into the back for a few min at a time as a line was forming. you could hear them eating back there. Also, when I went to the garage to pick up the car, there wasn't a single person working there.. in the middle of the day... they just left it all empty for 20 minutes. Who does that? MY MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH A CAR RENTAL COMPANY. THEY SHOULD CLOSE THIS PLACE IMMEDIATELY AND FIRE ALL THEIR EMPLOYEES. I returned the car at the right time and dropped the keys off with a guy working in the garage. Then, I went in the admin office and returned contract to a young man. He dais that the manager was temporarily out and that he couldn't give me the receipt. Fine, I (stupidly) trusted the young man. After a few days I was charged with another day because my return was recorded on the following day! Moral of the story, I had to pay 200$ more because 1) the manager was out while he should have been at work, 2) this young man replacing the manager could not do something basic as recording a return. Obviously, the customer service did not help as I don't have any proof that the car was returned the day before. I am thinking that maybe this was done on propose.
