I rented a chevy malibu from this location. They checked me in and took me out to look at the vehicle to note any blemishes. They told me there was a $400 cleaning fee if it came back with sand, dog hair or needed cleaning and proceeded to show me a dirty car. This car was dirty on the outside and inside. Windows had fingerprints, inside was dirty with crumbs and fingerprints, outside had dirt spots, dirty windshield, bugs on front. I asked why I was being given a dirty car and they said they didn't have time to wash it and were short staffed. Due to time restraints and I needed a vehicle I took this car. Luckily was staying with my in-laws and were able to wash it in their driveway before using. Honestly this was completely unprofessional in the way they handled this and I have never been treated like this at any rental place. Then I somehow misplaced my keys and believed them to be in the car but I had returned the rental earlier that day. I called the location only to be put on hold and told they didn't have time to look for my keys. I explained I was headed to the airport and home to Texas and needed my car and house keys and asked if they could kindly look. They hung up on me, put me on hold and then put the phone on the counter to keep it off the hook. I held for 15 mins and they hung up. I called again and said I would be calling until they helped me. They replied we dent have your keys. I know they didn't even go look. It was the most frustrating experience to be treated like this. I literally called them 13 times according to my call log that day. Due to this terrible experience I would take a long pause before ever renting from a Budget again. I reserved and paid for a car one month in advance. They called me 4 hours before pickup stating they don't have a car for me. I asked them to look in surrounding areas to see if there was anything for me. They never called me back. I called them 2 hours later and they said there was no cars anywhere. They then said they had a car but it had a crack about a foot long in the windshield. I asked if it was safe and they said they would not send it out normally. I asked why would you offer it to me then. So, needless to say I declined the a potential problem. I then asked for a refund. They told me I needed to call the 1-800 number. I called the number, they were so rude! The lady said we don't guarantee a car. No hey, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. It was dead silence. I told her that her attitude is why I will not do business with Budget again. Once again she said nothing. Our plans for vacation were very difficult to over come but we did it. AVOID AT ALL COSTS I've rented so many cars from every rental company, I've never had an experience this bad. I should have read the reviews prior but that's my bad. Upon pickup the experience was okay, I'm used to a quicker and smoother pickup process ( especially prepaid) but maybe I picked a busy day. The drop off is where it all went wrong, REMEMBER I PREPAID and filled the tank meaning I owed nothing upon drop off. When returning the keys, the worker said he'd email the receipt (hinting for us to just leave) ... I've NEVER had them not check the car and tank first. We had to remind him to go check, he took a picture of the full tank and came back inside. We then received an email of the receipt... charging us an extra $100+ for gas yet he had just checked that the tank was full and verified. We brought it to his attention and he called his boss to fix it, Sam told him to zero it out. He proceeded to zero it out and printed the new receipt. Fast forward to now, that $100+ was never refunded, I filled a claim through my bank and Budget appealed the claim with the incorrect receipt not the zeroed out one. How sneaky! Used Costco to book a full size car. While at the counter, was told it would be a twenty minute wait for the car and if I minded. I said I did mind and that's when an upsale started, "For just a few dollars more..." Then was asked "I assume we are doing just limited liability..." When I declined was told that I must be prepared to pay immediately for all damages, as they don't work through insurance companies." While I am sure this person at the counter is a valuable asset to the company and only doing her job, I did not appreciate the pressure. One of the worst experience I've ever encountered with this budget agency in the Ontario airport. I originally booked my rental through priceline.com and when I went to pick up my vehicle, Manny the rep helping me seemed very agitated when I declined the basic insurance coverage since my car rental company covered rental vehicles. Then gave me a 38,000 mile minivan (I reserved a minivan through Priceline) and Van was not washed very well on the outside, and the inside was not clean very well at all. Since I was not satisfied with that vehicle, decided to put me in another minivan which had just as many miles as the first vehicle They selected for me. Then upon return, I was able to return vehicle at designated time as indicated on my contract which was 20 minutes before closing. The dropbox looked like a trashcan and only mentioned lost and found. Did not feel comfortable leaving my keys in that dropbox, then decided to drop off keys to the budget/Avis representative. I was really surprised since nobody at Avis budget filled out any of my rental agreement of time returned, if vehicle was returned with a full tank of gas, and if ever any damages were incurred. I had a feeling I would need to follow up with budget/Avis after a few days went by. Then I called since I noticed a $1500 pending charge on my credit card, and thought I would only see the charges for the rental week of $600 plus an extra $250 for damages etc. When I spoke to the representative from budget on the phone, he asked me when I return the vehicle. I told him I return the vehicle just as was mentioned on my contract, then asked me if I return the vehicle with a full tank of gas and the answer was yes to both. It felt like a very shady business practice considering: 1) when leaving budget/Avis after picking up vehicle, the person working the gate did not fill out any info on my rental agreement only verified my drivers license and contract. Which was OK. 2) however when I return the vehicle, nobody was there to ensure vehicle had full tank of gas, time vehicle was returned, and if any damages were incurred on the vehicle. Based on the experience this will be my last time running from any budget/Avis car rental since it was constant follow up and a sense of employees don't care about their customers only to make commission on up selling insurance on vehicles. read more

They don't clean their cars (wash them) oh, they are conserving water, so the cars smell and have dirt and torn carpet, no maintenance, so the maintenance is flashing and you advise them and they say, "we know how to watch our cars" what kind of joke is this? What if you get stranded on the freeway at night with one of these horrible rentals, how can you be in business charging all these extra fees when you can't even rent a decent and clean car, and if you're 10 minutes late bringing it back there go the late fees, and a whole day charge before you even can authorize it. Plus they go over your return with fine tooth comb as if they would have given you a car in decent shape and odor. They will accuse you of stinking up the car with your body odor and charge your card $450.00 and when you refuse the owner continues to say she is going to push it through on your card whether you like it or not, humiliate you in front of the other customers and tell you that you returned the car with a strange odor, what kind of crap is that? No pun intended, so save yourself the trouble this half ass Budget Rental store should have an F on it for fail, fail, fail in every way, customer service first, and then the crappy cars they want to rent you with dings, scratches, dirty windows, etc. etc. and the lady that says she is the owner is RUDE RUDE RUDE AND MEAN AS A SNAKE she will take you down, and always tries to say their is bad smell in the car when you return it so that she can charge you the $450, warning there a sign as you walk in that says you will be charged if you smoke, bring a pet in the car but don't smell like butt or underarm because she will say you stank up her car and now you need to fork out more than what you paid for the car, and she is racist along with her staff, her funky little attendant with the nose ring and bad attitude, must be related because my dog has a better personality than both of them put together. When I went to pick up my rental the sales person offered me a 2-door Mustang. I was traveling with kids, but that didn't seem to matter to her. Her response was that they only have to offer a small car not the specific car class. That's absurd. Then What's the point of reserving a car in advance??!!. To make matters worse, their office didn't even have the courtesy to call to let me know that they didn't have my vehicle type available, which delayed my travel plans. Lesson learned. I typically rent from Budget at Ontario Airport and they have always been great. However, the Standard Elite SUV was not available at the airport, but it was offered at this location. When I arrived, there wasn't any SUV and was given a minivan. I didn't inspect it well enough and discovered that it was poorly maintained. It smelled musty which I was blamed for and had to pay additional $100 for deep cleaning (I found Doritos and someone's hair under the seat). There were stains in the upholstery and there were no floor mats and worse of all, the tires were nearly bald. I was nervous driving it as it didn't grip the road well. When I mentioned the worn tires, she said the tires were fine. Another con is the hours of this location. I couldn't make it back by 5pm closing. There wasn't a key drop box like other car rental offices, so I had to bring it first thing in the morning and was charged for an entire day +late fee + an additional day of insurance. The only pro was that it was hybrid and saved me on gas (which didn't matter since I was charge for cleaning (even after I washed the car and had it vacuumed before dropping off). The Budget at the other airport location is much better as there are more cars to choose from since they are shared with other car rental agencies. read more

The whole company has the worst customer service ever. My 4 year old and I were flying into Santa Ana John Wayne Airport when I was diverted to Ontario due to heavy rain making the flight line unsafe. When we landed, I immediately called Budget to let them know I had been diverted and I needed to move my pick up reservation to Ontario Airport and keep the drop off location in Santa Ana. The representative seemed like he understood exactly what I needed and he modified my reservation. I go Budget in Ontario and let them know the situation, she locates a car for me and tells me all she has available is a 2 door VW Beetle (my reservation was for a compact car). I ask her if there is anything with a 4 door and she said no but that the 2 door Beetle is classified as a compact car. So I take the keys and find the car. I get my son in the back seat and it is the tiniest clown car I've ever been in. My son was so uncomfortable and he couldn't even properly sit in the booster seat. So I grabbed all of our things and went back to the desk. I tell her it is impossible to safely seat my son in that car and I've rented plenty of compact cars and that Beetle is not it. The lady looks in her system and says she has a Nissan Versa that's a four door but its going to be as small as the Beetle...I've driven a Versa before so I knew she was lying and gladly took the Versa. We were much more comfortable and I was now annoyed that she didn't give me this option in the first place when she knew I had a small child that would have to sit in the back seat with a booster. After about an hour we finally make our hour long drive to Santa Anna . We get to our hotel and I'm checking my email and notice that my modified reservation changed the drop off location to Ontario, not Santa Ana. I normally wouldn't mind taking the drive back and forth but this is california, there is traffic and it was going to easily be a 2 hour round trip ride. Plus I would have to find a way to get back to Santa Ana airport once I dropped the rental off. I immediately called Budget and the person who I spoke to was eager to help me then ran into a problem. The system for some unknown reason wouldn't allow him to make changes to the reservation so he suggested I go to the actual location and change the reservation. So I spent time from my vacation to go to John Wayne Airport to talk to someone but no one was available to help me. For the next 3 days, I continuously called Budget trying to get my reservation corrected and no one could help me or tell me why I wasn't allowed to change my reservation. So my departure date comes around and I'm forced to drive an hour to Ontario to drop off the car and take $120 Uber ride back to Santa Ana to catch my flight. I was pissed off and I wasn't going to let this go. I arrive home and the next day I call Budget again. I told them this was the most inconvenient trip and I demanded my refund. They showed absolutely no remorse and simply stated that I cannot make changes once I pick up the car. Budget were the ones that fucked up. I told them from the start that I needed to pick up in Ontario due to circumstances out of my control and I needed to drop off in Santa Ana. I told the representative I wanted to speak to his supervisor and he said he would tell his supervisor to contact me. The next day I received an email from the "supervisor" telling me the same thing - I cannot make changes once I pick up the car. He never acknowledged it was Budget's fault to begin with. I usually rent with Enterprise because in my experience they have great customer service, pick up and drop off service, and their cars always look and feel clean inside and out. I strayed from them this time because Budget had a much better rate for the days I needed. Went with a full size car which the website showed could be a Chevy Malibu. I've rented a Malibu in the past with Enterprise and had a good experience with it so I went with it. When I got there I was told that there were no Malibus available but they did have a Mazda 6. In my head I was like wtf is a Mazda 6, I've never seen one. So the lady brought me to an ugly black car full of dings and scratches, I was instantly regretful I didn't spend the extra $50 to go to Enterprise. Inside it looked like it was made in the mid 2000's, no USB port, controls looked old, steering wheel was sticky. I'm definitely not Mazda fan. I looked all over the paperwork to check what year the car is but it didn't show. It also didn't look clean, looked like someone just quickly vacuumed it but forgot to wipe it down inside. Eew. The only other issue I had with it was the turn signal, seemed like it wouldn't turn off automatically all the time, many times I looked down and the turn signal would be on despite me making the turn like 2 minutes before. I hate people who drive with their turn signals on but don't turn anywhere..well the Mazda 6 made me one of those people. But on the plus side, we got to Vegas on a half a tank of gas. I returned the car a day late because I missed their closing time by 25mins on the date it was due. They charged a late fee of $20 plus the daily rate and taxes. So there went the money I saved by booking with them. Last I checked, Enterprise doesn't charge a late fee, they just charge for an extra day. So lesson I learned here..always stick with the tried and true when it comes to renting cars. read more

The purpose of renting a vehicle is for convenience and safety. I have gotten neither my last two visits with Budget and I don't plan on putting myself through this havoc again. The first experience was my rental continuously asking to change the oil and me having to put air in the tire on five occasions. Keep in mind there were hours I was out in "no mans" land and I had zero cell phone reception. I explained this to MaryAnn and I didn't get any type of compensation. So I let it be and decided to give them another chance which was even worse!! I had my fiancee and three kids with me on a trip to help my oldest daughter move in to her dorm. The trip was about 5 1/2 hours. The first hour out of nowhere we got torpedoed with ants. Keep in mind we hadn't eaten anything in the rental. Minutes later the transmission started slipping and now I'm getting worried for everyone's safety. About two and a half hours in to the trip the AC stopped working in 95 degree heat. Now we are extremely uncomfortable and sweating like pigs. I called Budget in Rancho Cucamonga and they stated to find the closest budget to trade in. For a slight second I felt relieved but when I called the closest Budget in Monterey they had nothing available until the following morning. At that moment I was powerless and let it be. The following morning I showed up at the Budget car rental and Gaven was initially very helpful but when I drove off I realized there was less then three quarters of gas in the tank. The previous rental I turned in had a full tank of gas. The worst part about this is we are now hours behind on my daughters dorm move in time. Upon my return to Rancho Cucamonga Budget I explained the situation to MaryAnn. All that was done was a $20 discount. A part of me wishes something worse would have happened due to the transmission slipping or maybe my family and I had gotten bit by killer ants in order for a company to do the right thing. I'm not a free loader but when it comes to customer service and safety of others, I take that very seriously!!!!!!!! Shady people and business. The lady at the counter charged me an extra fourteen dollars saying the car was late and was due at 8 A.M. I clearly stated "no that's not true, I'm early the contract states and I paid for until 2 P.M." She would not say anything else except that she was charging me. ??? I couldn't imagine say going into a grocery store and they charge you an extra fourteen dollars just because, but that is exactly what they did here. I told her again it's right here in the contract I booked it until 2 and she just gives me this blank stare and says no you're late. The printout for my receipt says 10:24 A.M., my contract says due at 2 P.M. How is it I'm late? I'm early I told her and she just said she has to charge me extra for it.
