SOMEONE NEEDS TO CALL ME AND MAKE THIS RIGHT. I am APPALLED and disgusted by the way Budget Truck Rental is run, and how I was treated. This is a review to warn others NOT to use Budget for any of the "services" they provide. March 9th, I pick up my cargo van I am renting on the 9th-13th, to move from Sacramento to Portland. We do the 'walk around', the man specifically asks if there's any 'body' damage, pointing to bumpers and the paint job (tires were not addressed). As I'm driving off the wheel is julting as if it needs an alignment *badly* I immediately call the location I just rented from to let them know. I am told that they will note that for service before it is rented again, and that they assure me it is safe to drive. For time's sake, I say fine. March 10th: about 10:40pm, I had passed Eugene, OR about 20 miles back when the front passenger tire SHREDS, suddenly the metal rim is in contact with the concrete highway. Luckily I reacted calmly and did not crash. I contact the phone # on the truck contract; what is supposed to be roadside assistance, it took an hour and 4 people later to get me to the right department, on the 4th person the call disconnected during our convo - NO CALL BACK, even though i was asked for my # for that very reason. I waited; NOTHING. So finally my mother and I call AAA, our car insurance who comes and gets us finally, no issues. We are towed all the way into Portland around the corner from my new home. The very next day MArch 11th @ 11 AM or so, I get in contact with the location in which I was supposed to return the truck, I explain the situation - he says he will get a tow truck out there *that day* to retrieve the cargo van. He says the tow truck driver may call if he cannot find the truck. No call, no nothing. For the next 3 days I call multiple times a day, every time I get a recorded response after several rings "no local representative is available, you are now being transferred to the national corp/customer service department" (something along those lines) I go through the prompts each time to talk to a LIVE person, and each time the call disconnects before talking to a real live person (f*ck all this automated BS). My mother turns to twitter to tweet them, I email them. NOTHING**** Fast Forward to today, I get a call from Budget - no not to apologize for all that's happened/discuss - but to ask WHERE THEIR VAN IS - WHHHHHHAAAAT. I spoke with a man who recorded the exact location and said they would send someone THAT day, called, emailed and tweet at Budget for DAYS. This woman was the most apathetic unpleasant person, there was no concern at all. No apology, no concern, other than the whereabouts of the van and oh, letting me know I was going to be charged for all the extra days passed the 13th and the impound charges. AND that the cost would keep going up daily until they could locate the van which was clearly towed by the city of Portland (rightfully so, after sitting there for 20 days). Long story short, Budget seems like a cost effective way to move. WRONG The truck itself is inexpensive in comparison, but they will charge you up the ass for THEIR incompetence, and take no respinsiblity when their faulty vehicle injures you and your puppy, and then leaves you and your mother stranded in the middle of the night on the freeway in literal freezing temps. My goodness this place sucks. The people who work here are mentally in another dimension, respectfully. I've been here multiple times and EVERY SINGLE TIME I get here and they have a blue sign up that says "Sorry we missed you, we will be back in 30 minutes". The same sign. Every time. I literally have sat out there and watch them lose business from people unwilling to wait. It happens so often that I've come to realize that every time they have the sign out they are really inside! This time I had a flight to catch, so after 30 minutes passed, I Knocked on the door and of course here comes the worker coming from the back and takes the sign off the door. This is the worse place to rent a truck! I rented a truck for Saturday and on Friday evening they called me to say they have no trucks. I said ok and canceled. A few days later I was charged 75$ for no show!!! Unbelievable. I called the office and they said I have to talk to the head quarters for a refund! So I called, they hung up on me three times with each call waiting at least thirty minutes. I finally got through and they said it was their mistake. They refund me in five days. Day seven!! Nothing. I call back, got hung up on twice. This time they say no one processed it!!! They will try again.... Still waiting!! So disappointed in their business ethics. read more

We rented a 16 foot truck from Southern California to be dropped off at Citrus Heights three weeks ago. I still have not received my deposit back. I've called this particular location because they're responsible for whether to release or hold onto my deposit. Of the dozen times I've called, Goes to voicemail. I've had to call Southern California just to speak to somebody live. I was reassured that the deposit was just a hold and my credit card was not charged. But they did take the deposit out of my credit card and are holding it Assuming nobody would check their credit card statement. Their customer service is terrible. Do not use budget. read more

Worms for brains. After picking our truck up at the Sunrise location, which was supposed to be ready at 8am and wasn't ready until 10am after needing its tire changed and only had half a tank of gas, we were instructed to drop the truck off at this location. When we arrived to drop it off we were told they didn't have our information at their location and we would have to take it back to the original location and that the gas tank should be filled. Rather than doing their job and calling the other location to sort the information out, we went back to the Sunrise location where a very nice young woman took 5 minutes of her day to call and figure things out. I needed a truck for a move from one West Sac home to another roughly a mile away. I booked my reservation at the West Sacramento Budget location on Front Street aiming to save time, gas money and mileage charges. I learned the evening before my scheduled move date that the truck I'd reserved was being repaired and would not be ready the next morning. The recourse available to me was a truck at the Auburn Blvd. location 20 minutes away. Needless to say [but inevitably I'll say it], I was livid. I arrived early anticipating that I would need to speak to a supervisor to lodge my complaint and request my mileage fees be waived for the unanticipated detour. Christina, the employee who assisted me, was professional, courteous, and thorough, answering all of my potential questions in advance of me asking them. She advised that I could drop the key at the West Sacramento location whether an employee was on site or not as they're equipped with a secure dropbox. Nice. Not only that, the 24-footer I wanted was ready and waiting when I left with my receipt. And the total charge was reasonable: $120 for a full-day rental of Budget's largest truck (after mileage), furniture dolly with straps, and insurance. read more

I only come here because it's the cheapest place and you get a hefty discount with Costco. Scenario 1) I am moving a one bedroom apartment from the bay area to Sacramento and being how tough it will be to drive a huge van across town, I reserve the 10 footer. I get there and they give me a 14 footer. Scenario 2) We planned a huge drive all around California and I ordered a SUBCOMPACT CAR. It's only the two of us so we don't need that much room. Get there on the day of the rental and all they have available is some really souped up Chevy Malibu that gets around 20 mpg even if the commercials say they get more. Either way, we were caught in traffic and were forced to keep the car an extra day just because they do not have a drop box. Screw this place, I'm going to pay a little more and go with Enterprise. read more

RESERVATION NOT HONORED I reserved a truck at the Citrus Heights Budget Rentals on a Monday for my move on Saturday morning. At a few minutes before 5:00 pm on Friday, Budget called me and told me that my truck would not be available the next morning. I told the customer service guy that I would take any size truck they had. He said he didn't have any. I asked what the alternatives were. He said there was nothing he could do, but I might call the Budget Customer Support 800 number. I called customer support. They said they would call me back. They didn't. Most rental places close at 5 pm on Fridays. But some rental places (like Hertz or U-Haul) have a computer system that tracks available trucks for all their offices near your location. Never rent from Budget. Go to one of those places where they can provide alternatives if something happens to your reservation. Budget -- Nope! Nope! Nope! read more

Booked a truck online, but the day before I needed to change the reservation to the next day. I called their office and spoke to someone who said they would call me back in an hour. No one called back and no one answered the phone for the remainder of the day. I then called the budget HQ and she said she would contact this franchise and have them call me within 2 hours. I needed to rent a truck one way to the Boise area. I called on mon night for a tue move. This office had a truck available to rent. I showed up on tue and rented a nice truck. I made it to my destination driving through rain and some snow. The only issue was a wiper blade broke in the rain. I bought a new one, replaced the broken one and was back on the road. All of the belongings were dry at the end of the trip. The only negative thing was the lack of radio stations on I95 through Oregon and Idaho, but I can't blame budget. Overall a very good experience, and I will rent trucks from this dealer again. read more

I ONLY rent from this location. The staff is friendly, accurate, prompt, and polite. Their policy is simple and well outlined. On at least 3 occasions I've needed clarification regarding the contract terms and how to use the toll box in the car; the young ladies at the counter were very willing to explain the policies in more detail. I've even needed a car before the scheduled pick up time so I called in, explained my situation, and the girl instructed me she couldn't make any promises, but if I was patient and gave her a few moments she and the gentleman in the lot would do what they could to accommodate my request. The rules are simple and clear... if you READ the terms and consider using manners these people will return the kindness. You guys rock and I will continue to rent regularly as I have over the past 3 years! read more

Can I give this lame place ZERO stars? Once they get your money, they are done helping you. We rented a 14' truck to move some large furniture across town, and returned it the same day. I called ahead and asked if I could pay the deposit in cash since I have had bad experience with giving my credit card and they said yes, but when I got there they would not take any cash, they insisted on my credit card info and told me it would not be charged... Of course it was! And we brought the truck back, paid the $46 for the rental fee... It has been 3 weeks and there is NO credit on my account!!! They looked over the truck and said everything was fine, no damage or anything, and now when I call them they blow me off, 4 phone calls in two days, and the manager "Navine" is RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!! He never did what he said he would, and blew me off! I am now calling corporate just to make sure I get my dam deposit back. What a crock of crap!!! Never again! read more

It took 40 minutes to rent a car and there was only one person in line in front of me! I will never go back to this place. The office is horrible, no public restrooms, totally run down and it feels like you are in a abandoned warehouse. They are still using a dot matrix printer to print contracts and it's only connected to one computer so the workers are switching computer terminals the entire time. If I had a choice to give this place -5 stars I would indefinitely do that. This company does not let you use a cash deposit so they require you to do a $200 hold on a bank card. What they do not tell you is that depending on your bank, Budget will not release the hold on your card for up to FOUR days. I got a van on Friday and was gone for an hour with it before bringing it back. I traveled 11 miles total and had a total charge of $37. It is now Monday and I will not be getting the remainder of my $200 hold back until "Thursday" This is bullshit and I will never take my business to Budget EVER AGAIN. If you are thinking of getting a truck from this place..........DONT. Go to uhaul. Uhaul or Penskey are way more dependable and professional. They also do not keep YOUR money for almost a week. read more

When I went in to pick up the truck, I was told that the paper temporary drivers license given to me by DMV would not be acceptable, even with other forms of ID. I was told I needed the plastic card to rent a truck. I could not find this information anywhere on their website or in the quotation and has caused unnecessary hassle during an already unpleasant situation. Use caution when prepaying online. I called them on the phone and asked if there is any cancellation fee if I prepay online. She says no, as long as you cancel 48 hours ahead so I went ahead and made the reservation. Well here it is a week ahead, and now she says there is no 48 hour anything, and there is a $50 fee no matter when I cancel. Ouch!! THAT'S WHY I PICKED UP THE PHONE AND TALKED TO SOMEONE. Why do people feel a need to lie I wonder. Did she think I would be happy? Did she assume I wouldn't cancel and would never find out about the fee? Never using Budget again!! read more

This location doesn't even deserve ANY stars!!!! The manager is RUDE, NASTY, UNPROFESSIONAL AND SCAM ARTIST!!!! I have a Uber rental in which I was told by several reps and it located in the fine print of the agreement that NO DEPOSIT will be charged. This morning my card was attempted for $245 instead of $176. Manager claims that it was for deposit. And told me that I needed to pay $245. I asked him if it was for deposit than why did they charge me $200 the first tome instead of 176$ and than he charged it saying I needed to have $200 available. When I asked him to explain to me why it says on AVIS WEBSITE AND UBER WEBSITE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR AVIS that there is NO DEPOSIT!!! He told me that he was going to hang up on me. I never raised my voice or cussed him out (In which he rightfully deserved). I asked him to charge my card while I was on the phone he told me could not do that. He stated that he would have to run it by the end of day. Keep in mind they close at 1 and it noon. SCAM SCAM. I'll be reviewing my legal options. read more

This would be a zero if i could give it. I'm not sure if its Budget as a whole or just this location, but they have a horribly run business here. I was moving across the country, so booked a 16' truck. When I went to pick it up, the guy that ran me through the check up was hard to understand and moved very quickly about the truck. He said, "windshield is good, no cracks or chips" this was my first time renting, so when someone tells me that I trust they are right. I take the truck home and on the way, I notice a chip on the passenger side. So I call to make sure they had it on record, and the manager tries to tell me it was my fault. I had to drive it back and show that it was not a new chip, and still did not receive an apology or anything, but was told that I was supposed to check everything, hard I do when the guy is rushing me around the truck and the passenger door is locked. Then we head out on our trip and stop to fill the gas, but the gas will not pump and then starts to overflow. We had to call in a mechanic to fix it and lost 3 hours of travel time. He even told us that work had been done, and that was listed on the record. I don't understand how they can send a truck across the country when they were aware of a problem like this. I will never use budget again because of this and would recommend that everyone else stay away as well. Terrible customer service, and they obviously do not do regular maintenance. read more

Ive always rented from Budget Citrus Heights....these poor people make pennies on the dollar. People rip the company off, if you don't have good credit, then that's not his fault. I never negotiate because I want the small business owner who is always trying to help make it. The company requires a deposit because people steal cars, trucks, driving it out of town and not returning, vandalizing etc. There are company policies, you follow their rules and not make your own. Homeless people in the area vandalize, customers are always trying to get things for free.... I have never had a problem and overlook the smaller issues cause I understand. Peace. read more

My daughter and I planned a 10 hour road trip to Las Vegas and decided to rent from Budget because it was less expensive than other car rental services. I ordered an intermediate sized car since there were only the two of us and wanted an actual trunk to conceal my luggage when we made stops. When I arrived to pick up my car, the woman at the counter informed me that they only had a SUV available. I explained to her that I had ordered an intermediate car only to have her tell me that they couldn't guarantee what they had on the lot at the time. She said if I wanted to wait until 10, I could then pick up an intermediate. This would set us to arrive in Las Vegas at 9. I was very upset that they did not have the car we rented several weeks in advance and do not suggest going here if you want fair service. read more

I have worked in customer service for years and believe in treating people and customers the way you want to be treated. This was not my experience here with budget. I had a truck reserved for my move happening on a Saturday, only to get a call the morning I was moving with the bad news that didn't actually have my truck. Because of it being a Saturday, a lot of the other rental places weren't even open yet. I had to wait while they called their dispatch and tried to find me another truck...In the meantime, my people were going to show up in roughly an hour and a half to start my move. After waiting about 40 minutes, I called them. They decided they found my 2 trucks, one in Auburn II was in Citrus Heights) and one clear across town in Sacramento. When I told them that was not going to work with my time frame, they asked if I could wait till tomorrow!!!! Apparently they weren't listening to me. I told them I was just going to call U-Haul since I was unhappy with their service more than anything. They said ok, they didn't even care or try to make their mistake right. Very disappointing and they didn't care about the unwanted stress they caused me on an already stressful day. Will never recommend them or use their services in the future! read more

This review is for Budget as a whole. I will never rent a truck from them again. The first time we rented a truck we made our reservation and everything looked fine, then the day of our move they told us they were out of trucks entirely except for the largest trucks and we had to drive to another city to pick it up. We had to pay extra for the larger truck even though our reservation was for a smaller one. We got it home right after picking it up and saw the tire had a huge chunk out of it in an inconspicuous place so we had to wait for someone to come replace the tire. After our move we realized there was a leak in the truck and our stuff was damaged. They were rude when we tried discussing the damage to our stuff. We opened a claim with them. We needed a second truck and they said they would give us a discount because of our previous problems. Shouldn't have taken the offer....once again there is no truck available in all of Northern California according to them and it is the day of the move again! We tried calling the corporate offices and they hung up on my husband after telling him "I don't know what we can do". Terrible company. Unreliable. We called uhaul and they saved the day by giving a reduced rate after they heard about our ordeal with budget. read more
