The cars are dirty inside when you get them. They skimp out on replacing tires so that you get a flat tire on your trip which you have to replace. They don't care about maintaining their cars. READ THIS BEFORE RENTING FROM BUDGET CAR RENTAL. On Budget's website, they advertised a 7-day car rental in Los Cabos, Mexico, for a Volkswagen Tiguan (SUV) for $116, which included taxes and fees. To my surprise, the clerk at Budget added additional taxes and fees that I wasn't aware of. My total bill was $466 (though it did include $63 for prepaid gas). These additional costs were not disclosed to me upfront, otherwise I surely would have gone elsewhere. But, I was on vacation and didn't want to spend half my day trying to secure another vehicle. I also didn't want to haggle with the clerk and spoil my vacation before it started. What a classic case of "bait and switch". Of course Budget will say it is not responsible for fees imposed by their foreign affiliates and may include this verbiage in their contract. But, this is so misleading to the casual consumer searching for deals on the internet only to find that it's not so. I'm so angry and disappointed at this! Please don't make this same mistake. Ask questions before you purchase. But, never ever go to Budget! I never will! read more

I prepaid for a standard SUV. All they had was a subcompact crossover with 3/4 gas, 40k miles, and stains all over. They charged me $30 for car wash and asked for full gas when I returned it. The rental agreement said we must return the car in the same condition and they interpreted that as clean. I feel lucky they didn't charge me for trash and mileage. Reserved a truck online 3 weeks in advance. Got a phone-call 2 days before my rental date, only to be told that there were no trucks available for that day. I asked what my options were and I was told "Well, there are no trucks available..." Lol cool. How are there no trucks available when I've already reserved one? This is the email my husband sent to budget after his horrific experience, you can guarantee we'll be looking at a lawsuit if this isn't settled appropriately. Jose, I appreciate the offer but I feel that your offer is inadequate. I have already been taking advantage of from the beginning and I do not appreciate being overcharged and misinformed with the initial contract regarding additional drivers. In addition, I do not believe that you guys do take well care of your vehicles allowing a truck to be rented that is far from driving par. Not only was the wheel barring on the trailer worn down and useless but the replacement tire was rotted, worn down, and no manufacturer print date was on the tire. Not to mention the rear main seal on the transmission blew up when we were barely into our travel. And the mechanic that was sent out to replace it put the drive train in upside down which caused the vehicle to vibrate immensely and sounded like a bolt was missing underneath. Should I even mention the time I had to spend on the side of the road before any assistance became available? I waited 5 hours to wait for the trailer to be fixed in the middle of the afternoon in 90 degree heat with no ac. During the second breakdown I had to wait 3 hours before anyone came to assist, and the action that they wanted to take was just completely absurd. They did not come prepared, they wanted to lift the truck 12 ft in the air and drive 45 mins. Do you have any common sense and idea of how much damage that would cost to the property in the truck? Following the directions to pack the truck with the heaviest furniture in the back and lightest to the front, the weight ratio would not balance out 12 ft in the air. so because the mechanic was not prepared, my friend and I had to spend the night at a rest stop with no food. And I don't want to sound like I am whining, but even the strap down ties for the trailer that was provided fell far from usage standards. It looks like they were frayed before and someone had previously used a lighter to melt the ties. Enough about the issues with the truck and trailer, just think about how many lives could have been injured if the breakdowns weren't noticed as quick as they were. The trailer was swerving side to side, if it had been during a busier time, do you know how many cars could have been side swiped? And the smoking from the tailpipe as a result of the engine breakdown pretty much turned the surrounding area dark and clouded with smoke affecting visualization for vehicles behind us. If I had not caught it in time, the truck itself as well as the people inside could very well have caught on fire. Jose, I understand that you are just trying to do you job as best to your abilities, but do you honestly believe that someone's life is only worth $180? My 12 hour trip was turned into almost a 3 day trip. I feel that time was stolen from me from spending time with my newborn, time that I will never be given back. As a member of the army, I have already lost a lot of quality family time. If $180 compensation is the best you can do, then I am going to have to speak with someone who can better assist me. Worst move of my life! My truck broke down and it took them an hour to find anyone to help us, an hour for him to find me, when someone came to fix it they said they needed to tow it back they took 3 hours to approve a tow after the guy spent 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong. 7 hours on the side of the road. The guy who looked at it says the truck was out dated and hasn't been kept up for a long time and was surprised it lasted that long. When calling their help line their representatives were rude and didn't care. the people in the stores are pretty nice but that doesn't make up for the shitty trucks and their customer service lines being full of people who dont care. I was disappointed in the service. I rented a 12 foot truck one way. I was going all the way to salt lake city, utah. The transmission fluid was super low, down about a quart. The manager kept trying to get out of adding transmission fluid to the truck. Telling me it was fine without even checking it! continued to little lady me and refuse to put more in until a man (my dad) came and told him it was low. Renting these trucks are expensive ($1300) I expected top of the line service. Do not trust that their trucks are in top condition when taking them on a long trip. read more

I booked a rental truck to move on November 16, 2013. This booking was over a month in advance. The reservation was made online. On December 19, 2013, a day and a half before my move, Budget called me to cancel. Apparently during the holiday season they rent their trucks out to big delivery companies, which must make them a lot more money than the little guy like myself. When I became frustrated with the individual who called me from the national office to let me know my reservation had been cancelled, he hung up on me. A call to the national customer service office provided a more friendly individual but the same answer: they had over booked, and I was out of luck with no choice but to scramble and find another company to rent a truck from. Budget was unwilling to find me another truck. I asked about the Sacramento area, and anywhere else in the Bay Area but the answer was a firm "no - we are sold out." I asked about compensation/help finding another truck and was told since my credit card hadn't been charged I wouldn't receive anything. On another note - I rented a truck for a one way move here in 2012. The individual working here begged me to return the truck to this location - apparently his definition and mine of "one way" differed. I was going to return to Budget over Uhaul and Penske because the price was better than both of those companies and the Budget trucks in my past experiences were nicer than UHauls. I will never rent from Budget Rental Truck or Rental Car again, and am filing a BBB complaint.. Penske was able to guarantee my reservation and promised to drive a truck to my pick up location the day before if they didn't have one ready to go. read more

Plan on losing 2 hours of your life waiting and dealing with a rude staff. Watch out for hidden charges, the bait n switch, dirty cars, and check every scratch. My mother and I called in to reserve a vehicle days in advance of when we needed it. The reservation was confirmed then today we got a phone call stating they didnt have a vehicle for us. Really?? it was reserved. This vehicle was to be used to drive out of town to my daughter's wedding and there are others coming with us. I am outraged that they promised through a reservation that we had a vehicle then went back on that reservation. They didnt care didnt apologize just said we dont have a vehicle for you now. This way of treating customers is unacceptable and down right nasty. I would never recommend this company to anyone and I will be sure to tell everyone how we were treated by your company. I reserved a 10' truck online recently, and they were wonderful after I showed up to get the keys. The day before I was called that 10' wasn't available for my moving day, so they offered a 16' larger truck for the same rate. This was perfect! It helped my move tremendously, and Tony at the desk explained how normal car insurance doesn't cover 3 axle vehicles, so helped us work a way to get their insurance included with our rental at no additional cost. It's GREAT to have such wonderful, and flexible service providing you with different options for getting a difficult move done!! (and we had both a huge storage bin, and apartment to move that weekend). Thank you Budget in Fremont!! ~ a very happy customer who will return. read more

I don't get all the bad reviews of this place. I had a Great experience here. I reserved a specific car for a certain date by calling the 800 number. I only called 3 days before the pickup date so I was worried I wouldn't get the car I wanted since they say they can't guarantee a specific model. I went ahead and set up the reservation anyway since they say they will get a similar car if they can't get the one you ask for. When I went to pick up the car, there was only 1 group of people ahead of me, so I only waited about 5 minutes before I was helped. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes! They had my car clean, gassed up, and ready to go. To my surprise, the car had less than 5000 miles, and still had the new car smell. Returning the car was just as easy! In and out in less than 10 minutes. I will definitely recommend Budget to friends and family. If you've never been here, give these guys a shot, I'm glad I did. The place doesn't look the greatest from the outside when you drive by, but who cares. read more

I reserved a truck a week before my move, and they called and told me that location was out of trucks a few days later. I then made a new reservation, and a day before my move they called and told me that location was out of trucks too! They then told me they had completely oversold in my entire area and had NO trucks available anywhere. One day before my move! I am completely screwed over because of them. This is only my second online review, but after our terrible experience here, I needed to write one in warning. I have rented from other Budget locations several times with no problem. This time, however, was a nightmare. I reserved my truck, and got the confirmation email, and printed it out. One Monday morning we showed up early and were the first ones in line as it opened. To my horror, they could not find my reservation, despite handing them the confirmation page. They had none of the available trucks for use. Instead they offered us the same truck size, but we would need to drive it back to Fremont. I cannot possibly drive that truck (their largest size), but my firefighter fiance can. He, however, would not be able to drive it back for 4 extra days, and so we were charged for those extra days, as well as paying extra gas for the return trip, and finding a place to store a truck that large in the meantime, and spending an extra 6 hours to drive the truck back, then dive back home AGAIN, and I had to follow him in my car, also using time and gas. We were quoted a price of $80 for our trouble for all the days, so I thought, fine, we need the truck. On the initial move, we discovered the gas gauge didn't work, going from 3/4 tank full to empty in a matter of seconds. Upon returning the truck we were charged about $220- a far cry from $80. We told them the gas gauge was broken before they went to look at the truck. They came back and told us that we were returning the truck with no gas, when my fiance had JUST put 10 gallons in. After fighting with them about the gauge they "had someone look into it" and finally decided we were ok. Horrible, Horrible experience. Don't rent from them if you have a choice. read more
