They had fully EV cars but I reserved a gas car. They didn't even have cars for other customers who showed up. I reserved an economy car. When I arrived, they did not have one available so I had to upgrade at my own expense. Rudhra, the management associate said she would be getting an economy in the following day and that she would call me when it arrived so I could switch cars out. I never received that call. When I arrived to return the car, she said "I thought you were coming to pick up the other car". I reminded her she said she would call me to confirm it was there before making the drive, and she did not. And she completely dismissed me after that. read more

Professional and courteous service: it's nice to know I can count on this particular Hertz local edition when I need a rental car. Whether it's for business travel or the time when I needed a car after my regularly scheduled maintenance took longer than expected, these guys have never let me down. Tucked away in the Hilton hotel, they have a corner counter on the first floor. While it's true they have to explain the warranty and fuel options to everyone from seasoned travelers to first-time renters, they won't pressure you into anything you're not comfortable with. Sometimes, the wait can be long as a result of their one associate to one customer process, especially during heavy traffic rental hours (i.e. Monday morning or Friday afternoon). Just need to be patient when that happens. Also, they don't ask you "was my service excellent today?" like some automated questionnaire when you return the car. Most of us just want to get the car and get on with our lives. These guys understand that and will do what they can to get you back on the road with as little hassle as possible. When I brought the vehicle back, Hertz claimed that i damage it even though they have no prior pictures of the little dent at the bottom of the door and proof that the vehicle is cleared. I got a pretty good deal through my company employee discount. I chose Hertz Newark purely from its proximity to my house (there's no reason to drive across town with all the traffic these days). I originally signed up for a full size car but realized once we got the car that it was a little too cramped for our road trip. Rebecca was helpful in helping us choose a higher capacity vehicle, although there was limited selection. Also, it was an upgrade, therefore, there was additional price but it was still reasonable. We upgraded to a mid-size SUV but after a few miles of driving it, we noticed there was significant road drone noise with the tires. We called the 800# and explained to Rebecca the situation. Without any hesitation, she told us to come back for a replacement. We went back and the only other SUV available was a full-size SUV. She went ahead and upgraded us to the full size at no cost. Throughout the entire process, Rebecca was patient, she understood our needs, and was very helpful. The office, by the way, is located inside the hotel. There were no clear signs other than to walk inside and glance in all directions until you see the bright Hertz sign to your left and Rebecca with a big smile behind the counter. 5 stars for the customer service. 5 stars for their price (this is with co. discount) 4 stars for car selection. read more

Customer service is all but non-existent for this company. My daughter was broadsided by a car rented and insured through Hertz that had run a red light. Her car was undrivable, so needed to rent a car to be paid for by Hertz (driver at fault was from another country). We spent all day on numerous calls with Hertz trying to find out how to go about this. They wouldn't give out any information, we were bounced from one department to the other, none of which were helpful. After literally 8 hours of off and on calls and attempts to get them help us, we finally caved and rented a car (through Enterprise) ourselves. Still in the process of trying to get Hertz to contact us for instructions and hoping our insurance will jump in once Hertz gives a claim number. They are sloooow (5-7 days just to get a claim number assigned, we're told), and in the meantime.... you are just on your own! I'll never use them and recommend others rent through Enterprise, which I've found to be very helpful. read more

DO not rent from this location. I've had a nightmare dealing with customer service here. If Jessica is your agent, then run. She doesn't know how to renew or initiate a new contract. After she screws you up by over charging you DAILY, she will scream at you on the phone and ask you why you are even renting from us? Next she will hang up the phone! If you are dealing with Arianna, also run. She's a liar and will tell you she doesn't have cars when she does. She has a horrible attitude and is extremely rude. After dropping off my car at the auto shop, I had to get a rental while my car is being serviced. While I was at the auto shop, the employee who helped me told me that Hertz is contracted with my auto insurance company and I can get a rental through Hertz with no out-of-pocket costs. I read many reviews on the Hertz near me. Every location seems to have quite a few negative reviews so I was hesitant to make the call. Eventually, I had no choice but call. I called 2 Hertz locations (this being one of them). This location had the best customer service (over the phone) so I decided to come here. When I arrived, there was only 1 employee so I had to wait a little bit while she helped the customer in front of me. When it was my turn, she introduced herself and not too long later, I got a rental. The process was quite smooth and even when I went back to return the car, the same employee (can't remember her name but I think it starts with a "H") helped me with the return process. All I can say is that the customer service here was excellent! The only complaint I had was that the car they rented to me was the worst car I've driven. It was slow and every time I stepped on the gas pedal (no matter how soft or how hard I pressed), it gave jerking movements which made me feel somewhat nauseous and caused my shoulders to hurt. read more

The Hertz Representatives, on all four visits, were professional and extremely friendly. I can't express this enough. After returning the car, they charged me over $100 more because they gave me a bigger car then what CSAA authorized - without telling me! I called the next day and was told they'd refund me. Cuts me off while I am talking to her to answer the phone, on top of that, she doesn't even have proper phone etiquette. Additionally she had little to no knowledge of Hertz services. Why work here? How were you even hired? Must have been referred by other the employees who also offer terrible customer services. Had to cancel my reservation based on my experience here. I had my car serviced at the mazda dealership next door & since they didn't have a loaner car at the time, they suggested renting one from this place for a day. I was told that I would get the "dealership price" which I guest is suppose to mean a discount? NOT! The Hertz employee told me that I can return the rental car, the next day at Mazda and they'll pick it up no problem. Actually, it was a BIG problem. I looked at my credit card statement a few weeks later and they charged me $402!! Turns out they never picked up the rental and charged me a WHOLE WEEK instead of 1 day. How is that acceptable exactly? They charged me the extra money because THEY failed to pick up their rental from the dealership, how is that my issue? This would have gone unnoticed, had I not seen my account. And Hertz would have came up on that extra $$$ Save yourself the headache and inconvenience and go elsewhere because this place is a joke! read more

Been renting with HertZ for awhile. Upgrade free offer is a lie. Hertz never has an available upgrade. Tried it 3 times. Counter personnel are friendly but in a hurry to leave. Didn't explain much and wouldn't really acknowledge or resolve the very strong cigarette odor my rental vehicle had. Upon return i asked for a shuttle ride but told to wait 20 mins. They may be short handed but this just shows me poor planning. Called a friend instead. I really hope this only happens in this location, I can try and avoid that. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION. CARS ARE DIRTY, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY POOR. I am a Hertz Gold member. I was referred to this location by my insurance company after an auto accident. It is located in a hotel lobby. Although there were numerous people there working, everyone had to wait for one individual to rent a car. Turned out this person was Josh, a manager trainee who appeared to be in his early 20s. I needed a model larger than what was covered by the insurance company. I was told what my portion of the rental would be for the duration of the rental. I was OK with that. I completed the paperwork, went to the car - a Buick Verano, examined it for damage, got in and drove it out of the lot. I noted that the car was very dirty, both exterior and interior. I was to have this vehicle for approximately one week while my car was being repaired. Two days into the rental period, a buzzer and "Service Airbag" notification began to activate every minute while driving the car. I called the rental agency and spoke with a woman who told me this was normal as the car was notifying me that the airbag was operating properly. I again mentioned that there was an audible warning sound along with the panel notification every minute and it indicated a problem, not a normal operation. I was told to bring the car in to exchange it. I had driven the car less than 30 miles when it was returned to Hertz. I was again assisted by Josh at the counter. Although I had written down the mileage and the level of gas in the tank, Josh went out to inspect the car and obtain this info on his own. When he came back to the counter he asked in a very condescending manner "Are you a smoker?" I replied "Yes". He advised that there is no smoking allowed in their rental cars and if violated, a $200 penalty fee is assessed, but he would waive it this one time. There was no mention of this "rule" at the time of rental, in the rental paperwork or at the desk at the time of the rental, and no notification on the car itself. I mentioned this to Josh. He had no comment. I did notice that there was now a sign on the counter this time that read "All Hertz cars are non-smoking". He also told me they would not accept the car until I filled the gas tank and handed the keys back to me. As I was short on time, I told him to charge me to return the fuel to the level when I rented it. The manager of this location completed the paperwork for the exchanged vehicle. The second car, a Nissan Altima, was also very dirty inside and out. There was something sticky on the steering wheel and on the dashboard and it was obvious it had not been washed in quite a while. There were no mechanical problems with this second vehicle. I went on a road trip with my 2 dogs while I had this car. I completely covered the seats where the dogs rode in the car. The dogs are very well behaved and clean. Before I returned this car to the rental agency today, I completely cleaned the interior of the car. I again noted the mileage and gas tank level of the car on the rental paperwork. I was returning the car with a half tank more gas than when I rented it. Again, Josh was at the counter to process the rental return. He went to the car and collected the mileage and gas tank level on his own. He came back in, and again, very condescendingly asked "Do you have a dog?" I answered "Yes". He then advised me that dogs were not allowed in their rental cars. I asked how I was supposed to know this. He shot back with "It's just common sense - no smoking, no dogs." I just laughed as this is not common sense to a dog owner. I did not smoke in this vehicle after being chastised during a previous visit. He advised that he should be charging me for the dogs being in the car, but he would waive it, like he was doing me a favor. I did note that the "All Hertz Rental cars are non-smoking" sign was on the counter, but turned so that no one on the customer side of the counter could see the sign. I reviewed all rental paperwork for notices regarding smoking in the vehicles and animals in the vehicles, and found nothing. Never again ... read more

Was happy with everything but the price. I made a reservation a few days ago over the phone, obviously someone from the corporate office. The woman was so nice and personable. I showed up at the location to pick up my car earlier today, not knowing what it was. I walk into the Double Tree where the hertz is located, it was hard to find kinda, the sign is small. The girls who were working there were young an fun. One of them opened the front door for me, that was a nice little touch. I had to wait a little bit while the girl working he front desk was answering phone calls. She probably got 4 or 5 during then 15 minutes I was there, I feel like that's a lot, but I don't know. Hertz has an underage fee of $35 dollars a day. That is a RIDICULOUS number. The lady on the phone gave me a discount on the rate per day, so my total wasn't as high as it should have been normally. Being nice to service people, even when you don't want to be, always allots you better service. I was in and out in 20 minutes, and was offered all of the additions. Some I got, some I didn't. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because of the phone calls interrupting, and the stupid stupid $35 per day fee. read more

We went here after a horrible customer service experience at another competitor, and went to this location. The customer service was quick, prompt, and do a credit check if you were to pay debit card. They ask you the following things: How long you are going to rent the car? What type of car you are looking for? Any type of insurance that you need? They even provide the cost to you, so you know what you are paying. Josh, the young guy was accomodating, helpful and was prompt about it. Cool guy. First, he offered a Nissan Versa but thought the carpet is shedding. So my companion said my brother has allergies. So he offered the Nissan Hatchback that was located at their main office near a car dealership. We said, OK -- he giving us a better choice then. So he gave us ride, so we can pick up the car we were supposed to rent. On his way, he picked up the car keys and brought some Double Tree cookies. He gave us a piece and they were warm. Great customer service from him and the boss who were just finishing up their business. 5/5. We can understand that they were running out of cars to rent because it was near the Thanksgiving weekend. If we wanted to rent a car-- will probably go to this place instead. Mondays and Fridays 9am to 6pm. Saturdays 9am to 12 noon. Sundays: closed. read more

It was stress-free for me - they gave me a clean, reliable car to use for a few weeks and the price was much much cheaper compared to Enterprise and Avis. Artika was very personable (which some boring, bitter, crusty people misconstrue as abhorrent) and she delivered! She wears her heart on her sleeve, she's funny, and she's helpful! When I returned the vehicle, Ali closed the contract and gave me a ride home. These guys are dependable, and the experience was great! Never again will we rent a car from Hertz. We booked and paid for a car well in advance and not the lowest costing Yaris either. we asked for a pick up but never got one. Finally we went to pick the car and were told, ' this is the last car, there is no other'; and were given a Yaris which we did not want. It was a downgrade from what we booked. Every other car rental we have taken has always given us an equivalent or free upgrade if the car we booked was not available. Hertz at Hilton in Newark, CA, did not. The car we received was terrible - very rough riding, the blind spot was huge. As the agent insisted it was 'the last car she had' we had to take it. Why was it the last car when we had already prepaid? They should have held our car for us.We were ready in time - it is not our fault Hertz did not send the pick-up on time. We reached the agency before 10.30 for the 10.00 a.m. booking, the delay because we were waiting for the pick-up. Very disappointed with the service. read more

HERTZ CORPORATE PLEASE HELP TO CORRECT THIS LOCATION Rebecca the manager so unprofessional, Rebecca misused the rules by saying the rules of corporate in order to just deny pick-up/drop-off services, Comes out as different rules ironically after you tell them the address either it comes as less than 3 or 4 mile distances, albeit as per the corporate they are supposed honor anywhere 15min of service Mostly I arrange my own pickup/drop-off because we have family member near the branch and kid school etc, seldom I ask them a ride. I've been Platinum member few years or President Circle for many years. That means I give so much business to Hertz almost every week, consecutive last 18+ yrs. For this instance, - (my return time was around 10 but) I called them in the 9am a rep Simi promised service to drop off, but suggested come around 2:00pm, - In-spite of I let go additional day rent charges to accommodate their convenient drop off time, - I went to drop-off at a suggested time, since there was only 1 rep at the counter then chose to await for more staff to come-in then around 2:30 four more associates walked-in, one of them Rebecca who started to act... totally absurd. - In spite of this is my return location as per the contract still Rebecca was trying to find lame reasons for me to send to Fremont Blvd or other random location and then have them to drop me off. Then trying to show off that she is doing a favor... - At the time I'm a President Circle level customer (Oh! btw they never try to honor status or upgrades even if they got cars on the fleet) - My nearest hertz locations are Solar Way, Balentine Dr, then Fremont Blvd. - Though the Service-King on Solar Way Hertz location was my nearest location, ironically which is also operated by the Hertz @ Balentine Dr from inside the Hilton Double Tree. I took my car to their main location so it would be easy for them. - In spite of all these amicable yet customer side efforts, Rebecca not giving a damn was shocking... What I like from this location is few familiar staff and Hertz in general... but I'd be relying upon other alternatives for-awhile... (diff locations, uber etc). Suggestion: If you are under staffed instead of risking the customer satisfaction or location reputation...yet really want to keep customer happy, you could order a Uber or compensate them $10 bucks or some other better ideas. read more
