Located in the heart of downtown Long Beach, this Budget/Avis office is located on the ground floor of a non-descript office building that has an attached parking garage. My family needed an extra car for 4 days to drive all the out of town family that was coming in for our daughter's wedding. They have normal office hours (8 - 5 weekdays, 9 - 2 on weekends), and have only person manning the counter. All the cars are located on the 4th floor of the parking garage, the same place for pickup and return. I chose this location because I am able to walk back to our condo, thus not requiring another car to pick up/drop off. Also, it appeared as a choice via the Costco travel website, AND didn't require prepayment whereas other sites do. I chose the economy option (Kia Soul or similar)...for this location, there aren't many options for cars so got a Chevy Malibu (Full-size) instead. Sulaimain was who I dealt with, and he explained that there is no guarantee of any car even with a reservation. I showed him my license, and he did an authorization on my credit card for $200 over the quoted price. I picked the car up by myself on the 4th floor. Four days later, I returned the car to the same spot...this time there were NO cars on the 4th floor. I took pictures of the outside of the car to document no damage, and a picture of dash to show mileage and gas full. I then went downstairs to the office, where I interacted with Sulaimain again. He knew why I had needed the car, so asked me how my weekend went. I told him and I enjoyed our back and forth. He gave me the paperwork indicating my return on-time, and about a day later, I got an electronic invoice directly from Budget. The rental charge was exactly what I was quoted ($162.86). Having not to pay the airport surcharges makes a big difference in keeping rental car charges down, especially for longer rentals. read more

Staff were polite and professional, but this branch office needs better resourcing and inventory. You cannot run a car rental the size of a mom and pop store right next to a cruise ship terminal! We were waiting over 1h and it was a probability (not a certainty) that our reservation would be honored by store closing at 2p. Unacceptable. read more

I've been renting from the LBC downtown Ocean Blvd Avis/Budget location for years. I split the last two years between Southern California and Ohio while caring for my dad through pancreatic cancer, and this location has always been my go-to when back. 99% of the time the service has been amazing, usually from the older Black woman or the younger Black male who always get me in and out with no problems. But my last two experiences with the manager, a man with an accent, have been unbelievable. First situation: I picked up a car that had the service light on. I went back to the office, and he said to me nothing was wrong with the car, saying it's "because it's electric" and he could just reset it. If that's the case, why isn't that done before a customer picks it up? He told me to go get the car and he'd meet me at the curb. I went all the way back up to the 4th floor, drove it down and he was nowhere to be found. I waited 8 minutes, went inside, he was with another guest and said he'd come right out, waited again another 8-10 minutes. At that point I had to leave for work. Fast forward to this last pickup in November. I returned one car to pick up a new one, same day. He returns my first car stating I wouldn't be getting any money back because I'm returning it a day early, no problem. Then he proceeds to process my pre-paid pick up. I tell him with this booking I should have a luxury upgrade and he said he has no availability. Then he asks for the last 4 digits of the card I prepaid with. I gave them, he says they're wrong. I give him another card, he says wrong again. I said I pay and have always paid on my phone with Apple Pay. I have rented from Avis for YEARS using Apple Pay and have never been asked this question. His tone was immediately condescending, like he assumed I was trying to scam or do something shady. I explained this has never once happened to me, and he basically brushed it off. Showing me the computer screen as if I work there and should know what I'm looking at. He said without the number I can't process the rental. I call customer service, even they couldn't find this "random 4-digit" number Apple Pay generates. The rep on the phone said to log in on my account look at the email it is nowhere in my information. He is on the phone with the rep speaking and acting as if I'm inconveniencing him to help me solve this issue that never has been an issue before. Suddenly, the rep finds the numbers after saying she couldn't. The whole thing was ridiculous and left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially after spending thousands renting from this location, and he treated me like I was trying to pull off a billing scam for a rental. Then I get to the car and it's disgusting, trash in the driver door, passenger door, trunk. No upgrade available even though I had the offer. I called customer service again and couldn't even change my return location so I never had to interact with him again. And to top it all off, a week before my return today, this same manager calls me, informing me he is calling from Budget on Ocean and wants to ask how the car is "doing" and confirming my return date. I have rented for years, I have never received a "courtesy" call. NEVER. When I returned the car today and mentioned it, he lied straight to my face saying he never called me and tried blaming the younger man that works there as if I don't know the difference between their voices. At this small location, he is the only in office employee with an accent. I will NEVER be back to this location. He's rude, condescending, a liar, and clearly has some biases in how he treats certain customers. It's a shame the two employees who always treat me with respect have to work under someone like that. Picked up another rental later that same day at the Rosecrans location in Hawthorne using apple pay. In and out in 6mins, clean car, and didn't have any question on a 4 digit number. read more

Wanted to change my drop off location from Long Beach airport to this location before jumping on a cruise. So glad I did! Salomon made the switch for me and he was such a pleasure to deal with. Reasons this place / company sucks... 1) $400 bucks if you only have a debit card to reserve / pay for your rental...Enterprise is only $300. 2) Was told I could call day of my rental to get a free pick up from my apartment. Called the day of my rental and was told I needed to call 24 hours before my appointment to get a pick up. I was told 2 totally different things from two different people. So I was out 13 bucks for a cab ride to this location. 3) Once I got there, I was told I didn't have a good enough credit score to rent a car. Seriously??? A credit check??? My suggestion, go with Enterprise...these chumps blow. read more

Do you strive to provide any type of customer service? You find the refueling fee to be valid on a car that was not in working condition. My life, as well as the lives of those in my family, and those on the road with us were at great risk simply by your company renting myself a vehicle that was not in substantial working condition. As a company you do not feel as if though you did not put several lives at a great enough risk, by placing us in a poorly maintained vehicle? This vehicle stopped several times in moving traffic, but you wanted me not only to risk lives in the process of returning it to your facility for an exchange, but to risk several more to make sure that the gas tank was full when doing so. Whoever might be reading this message, please explain to me why you believe that this is at all fair treatment for any human being? There is little to no consideration for human life, I cannot believe that a "reputable" company would not take human life in to consideration, when clearly there were a plethora of mistakes in which several of YOUR employees made. A whole day of my trip was ruined and I was very inconvenienced by the whole experience, but what if a life was lost, simply because someone failed to do their job correctly. You all wanted me to take a great deal of risks in a vehicle, that I am sure, you would not even drive yourselves, and also want to charge me for doing so. I am sickened to my stomach by the substandard customer service I have received thus fa, from so many of your employees, but there have been a couple, and just that, two employees who were empathetic and just, and I just hope that you all hire many more people like them, because lives will be lost, if this is the way you do business. read more

Had an appointment to pick up my car at 1 and showed up around 20 minutes late to find no-one at the kiosk and a sign saying that they'd be back at 2:15. I was headed out of town for work and was pretty revved up that the gentlemen hadn't made a courtesy call to let me know they take break from 1-2:15pm. If that's the case they shouldn't allow bookings for 1pm. Anyway, the agent was super apologetic and upgraded us to a premium car for a full 8 days which was awesome and made up for the mistake. **Note: you cannot leave your vehicle here unless you want to pay $18/day for parking. Returned my rental car this morning to later realize I left my sunglasses inside the car. I called customer service and they informed me I would be able to have them shipped back to me for a shipping fee. I agreed, and was given the number to the office at the location of drop off. I called the office, and explained the situation. The gentleman who I spoke with asked for my name, I gave it to him and offered the rental agreement number for an easier lookup. He denied needing my number and asked for my phone number for a call back. They called back 10 min later and informed me no glasses were found. This is the worst rental company. Do yourself a favor and never rent from here!! Horrible customer service. Upon my return-there were no employees to return my car. I waited 15 minutes and still no employee. I asked around and the staff were unsure. I parked my car where the budget return sign was and left the keys on the Budget desk. I then checked into my flight and went back to check and still no one was there. I had no chose but to leave as I would have missed my flight. Now they are charging me $167 dollars stating I did not return the car on the date I was supposed to. I sent them my flight information and a copy of my bank statement proving that I filled my gas before returning it by the rental car itself. They stated this is not sufficient information and they cannot refund me. This is a huge inconvenience that I should not have to deal with because they do not have employees to assist their customers!!! This is completely fraud and a fault on their behalf. read more

I really wish I could rate negative stars. So I've actually rented a subcompact vehicle, Chevy Spark 3/4 for 2 days. I drove to San Francisco for a meeting that would pay a higher paying job. Unfortunately , this piece of crap car stops working literally 5 minutes after the gas light comes on. I've rented a lot of sun compact cars and its meant to be economical but this car was definitely malfuntioning and there was no washer fluid. I've never had a vehicle that stopped completely after 5 minutes! I was very efficient in contacting the insurance around 6am only for nobody to answer the phone until 7am. They're supposed to be 24hrs! Once I talk to a representative, I'm informed that. Tow service won't be out for 1 hr. Ok that's fine. 933am comes, nobody has called me or ingot,ed of a delay. I contact the tow company and they tel me that they had to go service another vehicle, Wth. Straight ridiculous, I got moved to the back of the line for another service and nobody told me!! Overall, I had to wait 4 hours to get 3 gallons of gas! I was on the side of the freeway in the desert with terrible reception so you can only imagine the amount of times I called to try and get help. I had escalated and contacted the BBB, the manager and customer service for complaints. Only for them to tell me that they will not compensate me for my troubles. I missed out on a job opportunity to enhance my life financially and they don't feel any responsibility what so ever . So now I'm taking it to court. Anybody reading this will be able to see all details on BBB. That issue is broadcast for everybody to see. I knew I should've stayed with Enterprise. Learned my lesson. read more
