This location is an embarrassment to Avis. I'm an Avis President's Club member and reserved an Elite Electric SUV for a client-facing work trip. I booked the vehicle class intentionally because I needed something clean and professional. When I arrived, I was told the vehicle I reserved "wouldn't be available until next week." No explanation. Meanwhile, a Mustang Mach-E was literally parked right outside in plain view. I was offered "a Ford or a Mazda" with no explanation of car type or class and was dismissively told it was "higher." After reviewing Avis' car class list, t wasn't. It was clearly a downgrade and it cost me $150+ in gas that I would not have paid if Avis had honored the reservation. The condition of the car was disgusting. Not "a little dusty," but filthy: sticky stains, grime, crumbs, and a smoky smell. Whoever is responsible for cleaning vehicles at this location clearly didn't even attempt to do their job. I had to spend over 30 minutes scrubbing and vacuuming the car myself because I was not about to pick up a client in a vehicle that looked and smelled like that. The key fob was broken with the battery exposed. The vehicle also had multiple maintenance and safety issues: constant tire pressure warnings (all four tires missing valve caps, likely causing this), a loose gas cap that triggered error codes and a flashing dash warning all weekend, and worn-out windshield wipers in rainy weather that were legitimately a safety hazard. Then the return experience: the employee rolled her eyes at me, stared at me like I was an inconvenience, and actually laughed when I raised legitimate safety concerns. No apology. No acknowledgement. No professionalism. Honestly, the attitude was as gross as the car itself. I also watched her treat other customers the same way. This location does not appear to maintain vehicles, does not appear to clean them, and does not seem to care about customers at all. If you value your time, safety, or sanity, rent literally anywhere else. I reserved a cargo van in advance because I specifically needed it for moving. When I arrived at the Budget location, I was told they didn't have any cargo vans available. This was extremely frustrating and completely defeated the purpose of making a reservation. If Budget doesn't actually have the vehicle available, they shouldn't allow customers to reserve it in the first place. I rearranged my schedule and relied on this reservation, only to be left without the vehicle I needed. A reservation should mean the vehicle is available when you arrive, not just that you're added to a waiting list. This experience wasted my time and caused unnecessary stress. Only reason I give one star is because the vehicle worked. Started bad at pick up with the lady with Dora the explora black hair was rude and couldn't even be bothered to greet up or smile. She did not go over anything simply took my license and said it's the red car outside. We rented a sedan but ended up in an SUV somehow . The rude lady (Jay W) did not even come outside to have us do a car check or go over any further details. Before leaving I triple checked with her that we had to return the car by noon and she said yes just have the car here by noon when I arrived on Sunday at 11 AM again she did not greet me or say hello. she really just said can I have the keys and is the tank full. Then she just u owe an extra day you're late. I told her you said I had to drop it off at noon and she's said oh well it's at 10 so ur late. She handed me the keys back and when I told her she was in the wrong because she told us at noon. She got hostile I asked for a manager or supervisor contact number and she refused to provide it. She would not even give me a number for customer service. I had to look for the number and get it situated through them. My husband said she treated him just as rudely previously at the airport location and he too had to call customer service! I am one never to file a complaint or case number. But after this woman at this location was extremely rude about not allowing a car wash which corporate told me they're supposed to. I then asked her if I could use the restroom and she said "no". I asked why and she said because it's out of order. I returned after two weeks after corporate told me that they are supposed to wash the car. Now they told me to get the car washed and turn in the receipt and they will reimburse me. Also, The restroom was not out of order. There is a sign on it that says "not for public use". My guess is she doesn't want to clean toilets as she's already miserable at her job. Avoid at all costs! I had the UNFORTUNATE Displeasure to deal with BOTH of the Budget vehicle rental offices today, (Meadows Field Airport & the one on Wible on the South side of Bakersfield) After 3 1/2 hours of driving back and forth between the both and 5 different agents on the phone I ended up still unable to get a vehicle from them. The rudest, nastiest, and flat-out ugly attitudes from everyone on the phone with Budget to the 2 horrible women (should be calling them a lot worse) in the offices in town has meds me start to look into renting billboard space as close to each office to let every single person that I can reach know exactly how I despise and now HATE this company and how I feel about the entire company as a whole. Had a reservation @ 8am on a Tuesday. Got there early and there was a line of 4 customers ahead with only one attendant. When I was checked in she handed me keys and told me the car has 3/4 gas. I asked for a walk around. Her response was that it was done she did it. I stated that it would be done with the customer. She said it was done and she didn't have anyone to do it. I went to the car and it was filthy, smelled like smoke, had scratches all over the body and the service light (oil change light was on). I had no time to complain and I took videos and pictures of the car's condition. I called later asking if I could get another car and I was told they didn't have any and to call the next day. I'm on vacation and was unable to follow up or exchange at that point with my plans. I returned the car on Friday and told the same attendant that I was unhappy with the situation and told her I washed the car, filled it with gas and vacuumed it. I recommend the car be pulled from the fleet and have the services completed. The scratches are minor and with some buffing they can address those. Each said they were told that Avis had no vehicles for anyone who had reservations. Customer service attendant was respectful and helpful and said the company had made a mistake by giving reservations even though no vehicles were available or being returned late. The attendant did give me the phone number to check the other locations in Bakersfield but all locations had no vehicles available. AVOID AVOID AVOID I rented cars on a regular basis (1-2 times a month) and it was OK when the young guy or young girl was working. They would accept my Charles Schwab debit card for the $250 deposit, after I would pay the full amount through my Amazon profile (which was from ANY BANK card). However, now the old guy is there - I'm assuming he's the owner - and he literally is a POS. He lies about everything. First he says they don't accept any cards except Chase, Wells Fargo or Bank of America. So if you don't bank with those 3, you aren't getting the rental - even though you ALREADY PAID THE FULL $500 when you booked the car. And guess what- he denies you, then tells you to call Budget, who then says the refund is 3-10 business days. This was literally yesterday. This POS always has cars available because he turns everyone away for not having a Chase, BOA, or Wells card to put on file. And I'll tell you why. My last rental, I dropped off the car (I didn't even want, but that's a whole other bullshit game this guy plays) and this guy has the audacity to say "everything is fine" and we can leave. Then we get hit with $600+ charge. He lies about the condition of the cars and makes up charges that don't exist. Even the corporate office couldn't explain what one of the $85 charges was, and the remaining fees are duplicated. This place should be shut down immediately. Though they will likely be out of business in a few months. They don't let anyone rent the cars and when they do, they scam you with fees. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE AWARE - budget is not like enterprise. If you pay the FULL AMOUNT UP FRONT and the guy doesn't lie and say you left damage or "hair", you may end up paying only the original amount. But if you add a day, they charge a $60 late fee PER DAY, on top of the FULL RATE OF THE CAR even if you have used an Amazon discount or free upgrade or any discounted rate. Then this guy adds fees that he doesn't itemize because they're all fake. I believe he wouldn't rent to me yesterday because I fought his fraudulent report and won, so now he's pissed. Also: they don't check the cars with you in person at ANY TIME. They let you take the car by yourself, after their "cleaner" has sat in it and smoked weed for an hour, then when you drop it off, they say "thanks everything is good to go" and you leave confused. They don't take any pictures or inspect the car with you, and now I realize why - it's so they can report fraudulent damage or mess. Little do they realize, I take pictures of the entire vehicle so they couldn't screw me over with their scam. The bottom line: go anywhere else. This place needs to be shut down. Or, if you do need to rent a car and you have a Chase, BOA, or Wells card, you can take your chances and rent here - but you NEED TO DOCUMENT EVERYTHING YOURSELF. Even if you lock your card because you're fighting the charges, they still charge you and you have to go through their bullshit scam, then you get refunded. What a nightmare. If you MUST rent a car from here, please please please PLEASE take photos of the inside and outside, ESPECIALLY take note of the GAS LEVEL! This isn't the best place to rent a car. If possible, go to an enterprise. In my situation, we rented a car with a gas tank that was NOT full. Unfortunately, we did not take a picture of the evidence (and due to this experience, I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take my own photos of the vehicle inside and out, not one stone left unturned). When we returned the vehicle, with the exact gas, we were told that we would be charged a fuel charge because we had not filled it up, as was supposedly stated in their computer system. I explained to the lady (I did not catch her name, but she was the rudest person I've had the displeasure of meeting) that we returned the car as it was given to us. She said we would have to talk to corporate. In my frustration, I said "Okay, we will do that but in the future you guys should make sure that your system reflects the actuality." This comment really fired her up and she started yelling at us. I actually filed a formal complaint against this worker. I will never rent from Avis or Budget again. It is not very often that we have to rent a car since we really don't do a lot of traveling, just too busy to take time to travel. Recently we had the need to drive somewhere and didn't want to take our car for the simple wear and tear. We made the reservations a week in advance but also prepaid for the cheaper price and guarantee. Our scheduled pick-up time was 8:00am and we arrived just a few minutes after, but the line inside the office was about 8 deep so even if we arrived just before or at the time, there was someone there. When we finally got up to the counter we were given a car and I was a little shocked. The last time we rented a car, the rental employee would walk you out, do a visual inspection and check if the fuel tank is full, then you sign. He asked us to sign, but no visual check. We kind of shrug it off but when we get to our rental we could easily see the car was dirty from on the outside. We looked inside and it looked like someone drove through a dirt road with all the windows down. Dust all over the dashboard with a heavy presence of dirt in the seats and carpet. We went back inside and informed the employee of the dirtiness of the car. Long story short, we went through about 4-5 cars to find one but it was the least dirty, not clean at all. We had to request them to clean it and it took some time. We arrived a few minutes after 8:00a, I left at 9:40a, which is way too much time. The car we ended up with was a Toyota Corolla, which we were happy with, just the cleanliness was frustrating because it created the pick-up time to be extended. When we returned it, the time was very short but not sweet at all. The employee was someone different than we when we picked up the car, this lady seemed like we did something wrong to her. Mind you they just opened and we got there not more than 10 minutes after opening. She had a very rude attitude but when we challenged her attitude she changed her tone. Everyone has their own issues but when you go to work you cannot bring that with you, which is unfair to the customers. Budget is not a bad choice when renting a vehicle, the prepaying for a lower price is also enticing. One other reason we choose Budget and this location is because it is close to our residence. The WORST experience! We drove off the lot with a rental truck and trailer. As soon as we drove off the trailer disconnected from the truck and we are stranded. Roadside won't help us nor will the guy from the location. So basically we are stuck parked in a gas station! Absolutely so ridiculous and the worst customer service EVER! read more
