After calling the desk 5 times over two days to make sure that the keys to my rental would be available in a locker after my late flight arrived, and being told that I would get a text with the locker combo numerous times, I landed and found out that no keys were left for me. I made a rental reservation for my grandma for a small compact SUV to drive over to the coast. I dropped her off and she came home with a Toyota Corolla with the maintenance light on. She also pointed out that the vehicle was dirty. We went back to AVIS thinking she probably just got a different reservation or maybe the car wasn't ready to be rented out. The receptionist said it was not a mistake or their fault for this mishap. She also stated that the maintenance light is "always on". So we asked if we could just switch it out for a different vehicle, but they had no more rentals. This is my first experience with AVIS and I can confidently say that this will be my last. I received a vehicle that only had half a tank of fuel and I was told I did not have to return it with a full tank - only half, as that is how I received it. When I returned the vehicle I explained to the front desk associate that it was only half filled because that is how I received it and showed them it was documented on the paperwork as such, they said ok and they would email my receipt, so I left thinking everything settled. I finally got my emailed receipt, and to my surprise they claimed that the tank was only 1/8 full so they charged me a fuel service charge of over $100 on my credit card. I tried to call this specific location I rented from, no answer. I called customer service, who also wasn't helpful in the least bit. Lesson learned: DO NOT RENT FROM MEADOWS FIELD AIRPORT AVIS or AVIS WIBLE RD. If you do, document EVERYTHING and be ready to have proof to refute their false charges Note: I've been exclusively renting from the Meadows Field Airport location (sometimes up to 2x a month) for nearly ten years because I never had any issues and always received friendly, reliable, and honest customer service. AGAIN issues!!!!! Reserved a vehicle prepaid online (Applepay) arrived to pick it up and presented my PHYSICAL credit card. the woman at the counter said they do not take Apple Pay. And when I showed up the next morning the lady immediately told me they do not have that vehicle that I reserved. Renting the car was OK, and it was fine. A little dirty maybe, but nothing terrible. The real fun started a month after I returned the car. I get a letter stating that I owed 629 dollars for glass damage. I looked the car over at drop-off and there was nothing like that. I dig a little deeper and realize that according to the pictures they sent of the car/damage that the mileage was 43,667. Well, nice scam attempt, but the mileage when I picked up was 44,943! I will say I called customer service and explained this and the rude lady agreed to not charge me the $629 and I was sent that letter "by mistake." Yeah right, you tried to scam me! Doing some research, this is a fairly common scam. I've already contacted BBB, Costco Travel and will be contacting my credit card and posting on social media. This has been the worst experience with this company, I rented a car online made the payment and everything got confirmation went I went there to pick up the car, the guy said they didn't have any car available, I show I had paid and everything they didn't care or do anything to help me so almost lost my flight! And on top of that my credit card was charge twice. This company is not something to trust, better get an Uber which I end up paying to take me to the airport. If I could post less than a zero rating, I would. They didn't have the car we needed and had to delay our trip by a day. They only had one midsized car. It was dirty inside & out. We only received half of a remote key fob, which we had to use rubber bands to hold it together. The windshield wiper fluid was empty. The tire treads were so low, that our car floated in the rain in the mountains and we were almost run over by a big rig going uphill. The windshield wipers were tearing of in pieces with poor visibility in the rain. The worst part was the dangerous steering. Trying to straighten the steering wheel out of a turn, especially to the left, the steering wheel jerked wildly every 2-3". I had to use all of the strength that I had to keep the car from going off in the median, in a ditch or off the cliff in the mountains. It's a good thing that I am an experienced driver. Someone else wouldn't have been so lucky. Then the wrench light came on and we were finally near another Avis office to exchange our car for another safe car, that was smaller. They did not put notes in my paperwork or online in Bakersfield or in Salt Lake City when we explained what was going on and that we were given an unsafe car in Bakersfield and all of the problems we were having with the black 2024 Mazda CX-90 with over 30,000 miles with Texas plates. This particular office does NOT do safety and quality control checks. They could care less about your safety. I hope that Avis will fix this major problem before someone is injured or killed. Wow. Where to begin. Lady with the tattoo on her chest is a NIGHTMARE. Rented me the wrong vehicle. The correct vehicle was in the parking lot - took a picture of it. Went back in to explain that I had paid for a TOYOTA 4 RUNNER OR COMPARABLE FULL SIZE SUV - they gave me a Hyundai hatchback. I already own a hatchback that size, wasn't gonna cut it. The manager told me TOUGH. I was livid, didn't want to return the car because she said there would be a high % return fee. So I called Avis customer support and after an hour finally got someone to agree to 35% off. I return the vehicle, money settles, there's ZERO discount. I call and they tell me that the discount is ACTUALLY variable. On hold for 90 minutes projected wait time. To talk to a supervisor. All in hopes that they don't screw me. I guess at worst I can file a claim with the bank since they didn't offer the service they claimed to provide - it's not like I'll be renting here ever again - but BET if I'm pissed enough to do this, I'll be doing a whole YouTube video and podcast episode on it too getting into the nitty gritty. Social media stroke is absolutely worthless and lame EXCEPT in situations where you gotta remind corporate Johnny that they can't just go being bullies. I AINT DONE AVIS. And tattoo chest, I hope you learn a very strong lesson in how to treat folks. I am currently extremely sick and dealing with high stress stuff makes me extra sick. Our Avis rental broke down, and we were able to get the car started and got to the Bakersfield Meadows Field Airport. We got a notification that a replacement vehicle was waiting for us. My husband went in and was told by the agent that he declined our exchange. We are more than 200 miles from home. Our car is malfunctioning, and the agent here decided the was going to decline the replacement. When the agent we had been talking to on the phone said he was able to set up a lyft for us to take us to Burbank (112 miles away) to get a replacement we tried to leave the keys with the agent at the airport but he refused to take the keys, even when the Avis agent on the phone called him and asked. When you are renting a car you are doing so for a reason. I understand their ad says "or comparable". But an or comparable vehicle often does not work. When you ask for a minivan, you are not necessarily asking for a seven passenger vehicle. Did they ever think maybe you wanted the storage space... So they can't just assume you're going to be OK with a Ford Explorer. Something similar does not always work and they do not care. We rented a month prior and we even called them two weeks prior to our pick up, to make sure and to put a note in the computer to have a minivan and not "something comparable". They said the minivan would be there for us. When we got there, they said we don't have a minivan because we rarely ever have minivans. We don't do anything bigger than a seven passenger small SUV like Ford explorers. Then take anything bigger off your website. Once he was at Avis in NY they told him he needed the physical card in hand, clearly he did not have it. This was by far the worst experience I could have possibly had. The guy/agent at the counter didn't even care. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AT ALL! let's get to the story of how this started. I went online (Priceline.com) and liked for a rental car to use for two days. I wanted a "Luxury Car" . I saw AVIS had the Luxury type car "Lexus ES350 Or Similar" available at $74 a day plus tax. I booked it for a pick up time for 3 hours from the time I booked it. The website immediately held my confirmation and gave me my confirmation number for a "LUXURY CAR" and gave me the total price of $193 for two days. Basically $96.50 per day with tax and their fee. I take an Uber at a cost of $26.80 without tip to get a ride to the airport 6.6 miles away. As I get dropped off to get my rental car, I head to the AVIS counter at the airport terminal. The AVIS Agent gentleman comes up and asked for my reservation number and name. I gave it to him. He looks in the system and says, "I do not have that type of car available. I am sold out." Ummm I respond with, "ok...what do you have that is comparable or upgrade me to?" He says, "I have nothing at that price. I can put you in a Honda Civic." I laugh..."oh you are serious??" He says, "yes. This happens to us every weekend." I respond, why would your business confirm you have this type of vehicle and confirm with me that the vehicle is confirmed and reserve the vehicle to get me here just to tell me you wanna flip me at the same cost into a compact or mid size type car? If I wanted a mid size car, I would have booked that car online for $30 a day not $90. What are my options?" He responds, "That is the options." "Ummm how is that acceptable? That is bad business ethics. Very poor customer service and I'm appalled to even think you would consider doing that to your customers and they would be ok with it. "I said, I will call the 800# and see what they say about it." The counter agent replies, "good luck, next in line." WHAT THE HECK? I was forced to walk away?!?!!!! I will never use AVIS at the Bakersfield California Airport Again, for that matter NEVER use Budget either as it's the same person running that company. So! I call the 800# and it took approximately 15 minutes to get a person on the phone who wasn't much help and barely spoke English. Spoke Spanish very well though. I explained what happened. The phone agent says, "please hold while I look up your reservation and see why I can do for you. He returns 5 mins later and says, "while I can't get you in a luxury car and can't upgrade you, I will get you in a full size car for $10 per day cheaper for a total of $27 cheaper for two days and that car is a Camry." Wait. What? You can't upgrade and you want me to downgrade and pay basically the same price. I explain I'm online and can get that same care you say is $27 total dollars cheaper I can get it for $70 cheaper online right now. Why would I do this and why can't you help me? This is a Bait & Switch method of business. I am appalled you are in business at all and doing this to your customers. You should be reported to the better business bureau and trust me that will be my next call on Monday when they open. I am now taking a $26 Uber ride back home and canceling my travel plans as of a result of this poor business I had to deal with a ruin my travel plans. Please people. Consider anyone else other than AVIS! They obviously only care about gouging you for more money and not care about the customer service portion of the business. read more

BUYER BEWARE. Handicapped and senior citizens, beware especially! By their actions (or poorly trained, inconsiderate and unprofessional CSRs INACTIONS), one might think that Avis must HATE HANDICAPPED SENIOR CITIZENS! I would not even give Saturday's service a rating of one, but a zero is not an option! Booked online, but then it glitched, so I confirmed by phone BECAUSE I WANTED TO BE SURE ALL WENT WELL WITH A SPECIFIC RENTAL TO SERVE AN 81 year old passenger's needs, but although they confirmed the car, they could not accept my bank issued DEBIT MASTERCARD because it did not have a merchant code but that it would be acceptable when presented in person). AT THAT TIME, THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT A DEBIT MASTER CARD BEING UNACCEPTABLE FOR AN IN-town rental from the airport!!! Their website says debit cards ARE acceptable. I rented from the airport because their other locations closed on Saturdays at noon. I arrived early (3:20) for a 4 pm reservation in which all that was needed from me was payment. In and out in fifteen mins, right? OVER AN HOUR LATER, still getting the bait and switch treatment! Part of the time suck was rearranging my financial circumstances because WITHOUT EXCEPTION debit credit cards CANNOT be taken EVEN THOUGH own THEIR WEBSITE SAYS THEY CAN!!! Worse, still, I could not pick it up from another location because, again, they all closed at noon. At 4:06pm, I presented the CREDIT only card for payment and that is when the run around began. If COLE had had professional training that optimizes the customer service, he would have notified "them" that I had arrived at 3:20 and asked THEN to bring my mid sized CAR to the pick up area. NOW, at 4:10 he called for it. I let him know that I absolutely needed to be out by 4:30. He had this really annoying communication of repetitive empty responses, "Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, for sure, for sure!" He tried three times to change my Camry or similar into an suv. I kept explaining that I was renting for an 81 year old handicapped passenger who could only transfer at car seat height. Sure, sure, and at 4:35, he convinced me that the Honda CRV would meet my needs, printed the contract and gave me the keys. The seat height was more than eight inches higher that a car seat!!! Avis, WHERE WAS MY "RESERVED" CAR? What is the point if RESERVING a specific car if not to get that specific car? Someone 4 foot 11, in a 24 inch high wheel chair with ZERO MOBILITY, needs a lateral transfer, I explained repeatedly, not an 8 inch incline! For sure, for sure, it is NOT a Honda CR-V. This whole time, I am getting more and more parched, so a useless trip out in the Bakersfield heat did not make it any better, so I ask him about where I can some water. He says sure, sure, as if he understood thirst, points out the vending machine across the lobby. When I make the trek, with two single dollars, a five, and a twenty and cannot buy a three dollar bottle of water, the guy in the ENTERPRISE BOOTH, Dell, offers me a bottle of water while Cole seems to be confused that I asked for access to any water, even if tap. Not thoughtful of Avis, but thoughtful, courteous, AND PROFESSIONAL ON THE PART OF ENTERPRISE TO OFFER. Finally, I hit my limit of patience with incompetence; I turned to Dell from Enterprise and asked him if he could put me in a car in ten minutes at the same rate. He did. I asked Cole to cancel my charges through Avis and wanted a receipt. All I got was a tractor-fed blank white paper with four words on it. This is totally unprofessional and COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Avis, this is my public announcement your company is completely out of touch and that I am due a complete refund. I will fight for that refund if I have to, but the least you could do is see to it that it is done, already. How embarrassing for your company. End footnote: Cole said that having to use a credit only card was a frequent problem, and that his manager showed him ONE time where the "non flight" renters would have to use a credit only card was, but apparently these two issues, NOT LETTING PEOPLE KNOW AND NOT PROPERLY TRAINING A CSR, does not seem to be a necessity for Avis. Next day, Avis customer service said I was on my own getting back to airport. No cars. Curt, unhelpful, not friendly. Alex with Hertz on District said they would get me back to airport. Alfredo with Hertz even stopped for me to pick up lunch. I wanted a Hertz car. Amanda with Hertz discovered I pre-paid for the Avis car. No refunds on pre-paid Avis car. I did NOT want to take Avis car. Amanda at Hertz encouraged me to save my money. Felt terrible that Hertz took me to airport and I didn't get their car. Alex was so gracious. Said I made his day. All Avis said was "nothing we can do." Hubs co-workers have also had Avis problems. Hertz was lovely, kind, gracious, helpful! I told them I am definitely now a lifelong Hertz customer. This Avis rented us a car to go on a long trip. We were able to get a vehicle that we had been considering purchasing. The vehicle was ready as the reservation specified, it was a clean, reliable form of transportation. There were no problems with the car, it was a 2020 model with only 14,000 miles or so when we picked it up. We did like the car a lot, we came home from our trip and purchased almost the same car. If you have a Costco card, there is a 12% discount. read more

Are they Budget or Avis? I always book online ahead of time. Normally, Budget's rental price is lower than Avis. The Avis counter and the Budget counter are located right next to each other. There is a sign which directs the customer to go to the Avis counter. I suppose that at the Bakersfield Airport both offices are owned together. Anyways, I have always experienced good to excellent customer service here. Yes, some reps are better than others. Fortunately, for myself, things have been good so far. We had a rock hit the windshield of a Chevy Malibu ...It was a medium size crack (circle) on the top left (Driver's side) when we dropped it off the guy told us that they would contacting us and that we would be able to eirther go through our insurance or shop around for the best deal to repair it. Never got a call back and they charged my credit card for full cost of the repair . $184.58 for a medium crack on a windshield..They took it upon themselfs to fix it and charged us full price. I wrote the president of the company regarding the recent fraudulent charges placed by this location with proof disputing the lies. Poor customer service, wouldn't answer phone calls called over 17 times to no avail. I called every 10-15 min just in case they had a customer in person but still no hope. I'm pretty sure they would've answered by then. If their was or is a manager on site then he should get demoted for lack of professionalism towards his customers they offer no support at all if he's allowing it to happen. I forgot my phone in the car and took a flight. So when I landed I used someone's phone to reach them but nothing. Reserved a rental car through the 800 number the day before pick up. They said a debit card would be fine to use as a method of payment. I clearly states I do not have a credit card to hold a rental or to pay. I have a debit card. Man on the phone assured me that was no problem. Well it was. Showed up at 9am to pick up the rental. I was told I needed a major credit card. I told them how the 800 number service man said I didn't need one and that debit would be fine. I walked out of there at 9:20am with no rental. Because it was an issue. I wouldn't have even bothered trying if the 800 number representative would have had his information correct. They need to educate the employees of their policies. Personel doesnt even have a dedicated support line for themselves; they have to call the same customer support line we do. Waiting for 1h 30min at the time of this post and still writing. Cant pick up at airport without a credit card even though the website says they accept debt card. Transferring your reservation is a nightmare and new location cant help you without you booking a whole new reservation and cancelling your old one. Which means $150 cancellation fee and 2 different holds on your account. At this point id rather eat the cost of using lyft for a week or just walking read more

After our first, sour encounter with woman at the other Avis location (located on Wible), I was hoping this encounter won't be like the last time and I'm glad it was a total 180. Bakersfield has some of the laziest shittiest service I've ever experienced. I won't even visit the other locations after they delayed my morning by not fulfilling my reservation.
