DO NOT RENT HERE. Our vehicle was not there as promised. It was 2 hours late and although they said it had been cleaned, it had not. We were first told it would be a 20 minute wait or we would have gone somewhere else. They charged us for.a 2 day rental even though we had it less than 1.5 days and said they would adjust the price upon the return but they did not. They didn't give any discount for the two hour wait we had (the rest of our party also had to wait 2 hours to be picked up). There were no apologies or accountability. They did not keep us updated, we had to ask for updates. I am sure they would not appreciate being treated this way as a customer. We've rented here several times but never again. read more

We used Budget Rent A Car because I've been renting from them for over 20 years and ever since we moved to Columbus in 1999. In fact, that's the first company I became familiar with here when flying in to visit the Columbus plant of my job. I rented from Budget at the airport. I've never had a problem that they couldn't resolve and I've always had good customer service. The same goes with the locations here. This was my first time at this location and rental was much easier than it used to be, with how they've set it up online. They offer many different deals that you'll receive via email, once you sign up. They also let you combine deals that you find online and in the entertainment book. We picked up a car from this location early in the morning and the rental process was quick and smooth (of course, we prepaid and pre-registered online, prior to the visit). If there is any complaint (from my wife) it would be that the cars are parked so closely to each other from the ultimate master of parallel parking. It took awhile to get out, but after that, she was good to go. I suppose I should wait until after she returns the vehicle to say the contract was a total success. Maybe I'll provide an update there is something of note. For the record, they don't have a public bathroom, so I suggest stopping at Subway in the same parking lot if you need to go! read more

I reserved a truck for Saturday, Feb. 15. Everything seemed fine, I received several emails reminding me & offering me other services. I received a phone call Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 pm telling me that there wasn't a truck available. The lady said she'd have someone check the next day to see if anything was available, but that doesn't work. She also asked if my date was flexible. I had movers lined up, took time off work, and had a deadline to be out of my old place. I don't think Budget, a company that supplies moving trucks, realizes how big of a deal this is. You can't just change all of these plans last minute. The lady escalated it to an operations manager who called me shortly after. I felt better & thought that he would make something happen. He assured me that he was looking & would be in contact early the next morning. But, no call. No other contact from budget except for the follow up emails from the moving concierge, assuming that my move happened smoothly. Budget's system is obviously broken. I was able to find a truck (thankfully Penske knows what they're doing) but what if I didn't? I would have a huge mess. Budget's incompetence is completely unacceptable. How does a company in the moving business not understand this? Update: I received an email from budget customer service. Instead of taking any responsibility, they apologized for my lack of understanding. Even though the words reservation & confirmation are used on the website, in emails, & on the phone, they claim that it's not a reservation or confirmation, just a request. They don't guarantee that you'll actually get anything. What a joke! read more

Everything was fine until we returned the car. I grabbed the rental pamphlet with the contract in it and noticed a poorly printed piece of paper stapled to the front stating there is a $450 cleaning fee for sand, pet hair, etc. This was NOT on the contract presented to me that I signed nor were we told about it. It was just stapled to the pamphlet that was given after everything was signed and we got the keys. There was some sand on the passenger floor as we went to a beach so my husband asked if it was ok or if we needed to clean it. We were told it was fine and we left. Almost 3 1/2 hours later at 5:08 pm I miss their call since I was on the other line. They left a voicemail at (luckily I checked my message right away) that it needs cleaned out and if they don't hear from me in 30 minutes they will charge the fee. They had not actually looked and checked the car until then because it was raining. My husband had to drive up there to clean the sand with our shop vac. They locked up the store and left before he was even done so I could've even get a closed out receipt. I read the Budget contract again and it said excessive. A little sand (not even a tablespoon) is not excessive and to me falls under normal usage. Maybe if they had floor mats that could be removed and shaken off it would be less of an issue. Also, they should have walked out into the rain to check the sand BEFORE they said it was okay and we left. read more

DO NOT LET THEM SWIPE YOUR CARD UNTIL YOU HAVE KEYS AND A VEHICLE IN YOUR POSSESSION. We arrived at 2pm to pick up our rental that was scheduled for 2pm pick up. The woman swiped our card as part of the processing paperwork. She then told us that we were in the system to receive our vehicle at 3pm. Which was news to us. So we sat and waited for about an hour until our vehicle came to the store. We were a little frustrated with be wait but let it go and went on our way although this put us behind schedule which was inconvenient. Fast forward to today we noticed in the email that they did update the return to an hour later. We needed pretty much the exact 24 hours to get there on time and weren't trying to be charged a late fee or for the hour that we did not have the vehicle. We got bounced around to maybe 5 different people over the phone. Each being extremely rude and telling us that we left with the car at 2pm. We told them over and over again that we did not receive that car at that time. They kept arguing with us saying but that is the time that you swiped your card and service was started. What service? We sat and waited for an hour. They demanded proof of when we received the car. Which was not our job to document and I don't know how we would have even done that. So bottom line. You're only proof of when you "received your vehicle" is when you swipe that card so don't do it until receive it, considering wait time is substantial. We won't be renting from here again. My husband rented a van March 25. He went in to the Gahanna Budget location the next morning to pick it up and was informed they hadn't had any vans in months! We had already made arrangements to move my mom into her new apartment, so we had to scramble to find a rental van somewhere else. I just opened my credit card statement. We were charged $75 for a "no show." We DID show up. Budget didn't have what we needed. So this is how you do customer service, Budget? You allow people to rent something you don't have (putting their plans in a bind) and then CHARGE them for not picking up what YOU didn't have available. THAT is quite something, Budget! read more

This location deserves zero stars. I had the worst experience after leaving with my car rental that I was going to have for 10 days. First off when Donell came out from the back room, he was friendly and said he has two new 2021 cars to choose from and recommended the Nissan Altima over the Chevy Malibu. He was going through the process of assigning me the vehicle and yelled "Shirley" to the back room and he told her she didn't finish checking in the Nissan from the last rental, so he couldn't assign it to me. She laughed and made a joke of it and sat at her computer, assuming she was now going to finish checking that one back in. In the meantime, Donell picked another Nissan to assign to me. I followed him outside and he was very friendly joking about a "dead body" being in the truck and not to worry if I get pulled over. He marked down several scratches and dings around the car and I noticed the gas cap door doesn't latch all the way, so he marked that too. He handed me the keys and I got it. Right away, there was a strong smell of air freshener, that at first you would think was pleasant. I drove 15 minutes away to pick up my luggage from my friends house and was then driving up to the Wapak/Lima area to be with family. When I got to my friends to load my bags, I noticed the back seat had not been vacuumed and the rear floor mats were both turned upside down to cover the dirt and filth on the right side of the mats. I also noticed a small hairline crack at the top of the windshield. Wow, that was a surprise. (I would have turned around and returned or exchanged the car right away, but they were already closed for the day.) I started my 90 minute drive to Lima and was being overcome by the strong air freshener smell, so I had to open my windows and turn the heater on. The smell was so strong it was giving me a horrible headache. On day two of having the car, I tried to call the local number on Donell & Shirley's business card, but they never answer and the calls rolls over to the Budget corporate reservation number. I wanted to report the condition of the car and see if an exchange was possible, though there were not any Budget location near the Lima area. I was frustrated after being on hold for over 30 minutes and decided, I'd leave the windows open a little to try to air out the smell. Four days into the reservations, I had to drive to Dayton airport to pick up my boyfriend and we went to the Budget car rental at the airport to report the situation of the car and to see if we could exchange it. The agent working said they had a shortage of cars and they were all rented out, but had some coming in and it would take time to get them cleaned and checked in. He said we could call him or come back in an hour and check status to see if anything was available. We stayed in the area for an hour and called the agent and he said he didn't have anything to exchange with us. So, next we tried to call the corporate reservation number to report the condition and to see if there was anything that could be done. Perhaps another location in Dayton could do the exchange since we were in the area. After being on hold for over 45 minutes, and having to explain the situation/condition to three different agents, they put us on hold again and then hung up on us. Next my boyfriend emailed Donell & Shirley (their email address was on the business card) and asked them to call regarding the condition of the car. Shirley said she tried to call, but couldn't get through. We asked her to try again. When she wasn't calling, we explained in an email what was going on and wanted to give her a chance to rectify the problem. She came up with excuses and said there was shortages of cars, and that was the only one she had (which was not true if you remember the beginning of this story) and she said the car was clean, etc. On day seven of the rental period, there was frost/ice on the car windows when I needed to use in in the morning. Upon defrosting the windshield, the small crack that was at the top, had now spidered down the windshield about 12 -15 inches. I immediately called the 24-hour roadside assistance number to report it. Of course, I had to be on hold for 40 minutes before speaking with anyone and they wanted my insurance information to pay for the crack. I explained to the agent that the crack had already started and I was not going to pay for it. She said she would make and incident report with all the details. She said she could arrange an exchange but I would have had to drive to Dayton again (60 minutes away), otherwise if it was safe to drive, I could keep it since I only had 3 more days left in my rental period. At that point, I didn't have time to go to Dayton. Shirley tried to lying when I dropped off the car to her saying it was the only car available and said it was in perfect condition. She would only credit one-day from the overall cost. Don't ever rent from here!! read more

I was charged for a $75 no show fee HOWEVER. I DID show up to the budget truck location with which I made the reservation and the lady at the front desk (who was rude to begin with) told us they did not have a truck for us and have not had any for a year. Not only did this create an issue for our moving plans but we had to change plans completely and had to spend more money at a different company. Not to mention I needed to travel for work the week after, we needed to be out of our apartment by the 31st AND I am 7 months pregnant doing a lot of the moving. So on top of Budget truck creating more stress to a pregnant woman who is moving and traveling for work I was then charged $75 for no show when in actuality I showed up and BUDGET TRUCK DID NOT!!!! read more

Needed a car while my car was in the shop. The person who actually rented the car was courteous but when I got the car it was visible dirty on the exterior and the interior smelled like cigarette smoke. The person who did the walk through said it was the cleaning fluid. I hoped that by airing it out it would improve but as I am not a smoker and sensitive to smoke I became lightheaded and returned to see if there was another vehicle. There was not another vehicle and they said there was nothing they could do so I returned the car and rented from a different company. Will not be using this agency again. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE. Schedule a moving truck 3 weeks in advanced. Day before moving I received the typical email confirming the rental day and time. Literally the same night around 730pm I received a call (from a private number might I add so I almost didn't answer) from a Budget representative stating "we don't have any trucks available for your rental tomorrow". Literally the night before the move ! How do you not notify someone far in advance for that type of inconvenience. ??? Definitely never renting from Budget again ! Update** I was charged the $50 fee for not picking up the rental ( that they did not have). When I called this office I was told I had to call corporate to get that fee back. I'm so confused... the rental should have been cancelled once they realized they had no trucks, but instead they let it go all the way through so that I could be charged a fee for not picking up something they did not have ?? A true scam. After calling corporate I was told it would take 5-7 business days to get my money back! Never again! read more

When our car broke down in the Columbus area and required more than a day to fix, it was necessary for us to get a rental car in order to get back to Toledo. Our first attempt with another rental agency failed since they did not have any rental cars available, so we contacted Budget. They thankfully had cars available and set us up with the most cost-efficient contract given that we were not sure how long the repair would take. When it took an extra day, the agent readily and easily accommodated the change and helped us through the after-hours drop off. The only reason for not giving five stars is they only have one person working at the location, so they are unable to do pick-ups or drop-offs. read more
