These restaurants pop-up in random neighborhoods, and word spreads quickly when the food is great. Budsi's is on the hot list because it serves wonderful, authentic Thai cuisine. Budsi's is located in the historic Treme neighborhood. The corner storefront is "old" New Orleans with French Quarter architecture and character. You enter through a narrow green door to a large dining room with high ceilings. There is a full bar and the kitchen large and open for viewing. You place your order at the counter, and then food is delivered to your table. Counter service was easy, and the staff was friendly. The menu consists of popular Thai dishes, Thai street food, and specific dishes from the northeast region (Issan) of Thailand. I am so happy that I was finally able to eat here! The food exceeded my expectations; everything that we ordered was delicious (and spicy). The portions were big enough for my friends and I to share as we ate "family style". The service was very fast on a Saturday during a festival and the ambiance is very casual. It is located in a neighborhood near downtown and there's only street parking. Grilled Pork Shoulder- pork was cooked perfectly. Tender, sweet and savory. Khao Soi- warm, filling, coconut-y, savory. This is a must try in New Orleans. While it's not traditional creole or cajun food, this Thai food is some of the best I've had. When we arrived, it was very busy. You can always tell if somewhere is good when there are alot of people dining. You order at the register and take a number and food is delivered to your table. They have both outdoor and indoor seating and a full bar. We ordered the pad see ew with chicken and I let the employee at the register pick our second dish. I let this dish be a suprise to us. He selected cal soy with crispy pork belly. The food came quickly. The price and portion sizes were pretty moderate. Both dishes were phenomenal. Stopped in for a quick pre theater dinner and a happy hour cocktail. I love yellow curry so I ordered the pumpkin curry and a side of roti. The drink was on special for 5 bucks. Food was plentiful and flavorful and good price/portion. Only issue I took note of was that both of my plates/bowls were noticeably chipped and chipped ceramic is a breeding ground for bacteria. Finally, some good Thai in New Orleans! This place was so good. My friends and I stopped here before a play. We each ordered a different entree and shared. I'm a huge fan of Tom Yum soup when it's done right and this place didn't hold back on the spice and flavor. Everything we had was amazing. The setup is to order/pay at the register then there is a separate bar to order drinks. It worked out nicely so we didn't have to ask for separate checks. It was a Friday night and pretty busy when we went. I was a little disappointed that we had to wait in two lines, one for food and another for the bar, I guess I had envisioned a full service restaurant - it's not. Thankfully it was nice outside because those were the only tables available There were several empty tables inside but all said reserved. The signature cocktails were fresh and delicious! I don't remember the cocktail names nor can I find a menu online but we ordered the top two on the menu. The sauce that came with the chicken skewers was so flavorful I could have drank it. This place does not need another 5 star review, but I'm going to write it anyway. Oh my goodness the flavors!! My friend and I shared the steamed dumplings which were so fresh and delicious. I got the Budsi's noodles with Tofo which were SPICY but just enough to have that pleasant burn, not too much (for me, anyway). My friend got the pumpkin curry with chicken and I tasted it - that flavor blew me away! I definitely want to try one of the curries next time. Service was fast and friendly, although I didn't realize our "entree" items wouldn't arrive at the same time. My noodles arrived before the dumplings and long before the curry. To my surprise, this was my favorite meal while visiting Nola. Who would've thought! Walked in after a cold haunted tour in the French Quarter. Stopped in for an early dinner at about 3:30pm on a Friday and it was shockingly almost 1/2 full. My BF selected chicken fried rice and I was giving him crap for picking something so basic. But, upon tasting his, I'll say that the flavor was NOT basic. Will definitely get this again although beware of the sauce on the side. It was super spicy! I got red curry but it was super hot (temp wise) so I actually didn't eat it in the restaurant, but it had a decent amount of meat and veggies in it as I was packing it up to go. This is the type of restaurant where you order and pay first before your food comes, which we didn't mind but I just wanted to put that out since some people might not be used to that. We ordered the Beef Drunken Noodle ($14.00), the Chicken Pad Thai ($14.00), and the Spicy Papaya Salad ($14.00). The dishes were really good! Everything was pretty flavorful and hot. The only thing I wouldn't order again would be the Papaya Salad because of how small it was. I felt like they should've added a bit more to the dish. Aside from that, everything else was good. Came here per recommendation from a friend. We loveee Thai food and enjoyed budsis! Prices very reasonable and the lots of clearly stated vegan options for us on the menu. It was quite busy on a Thursday night. We were able to snag a table inside but it was superrrr loud and echoing we could barely hear each other. Since I arrived first I sat at the bar and ordered a Thai tea, this thai tea was boozy though. Imagine thai tea spiked with vodka, delicious and refreshing. The bartender David was sooooo nice and kept me company until my friend arrived. When my friend arrived she ordered the Spicy Budsi-rita basically their spin on a spicy margarita, this was during happy hour so the cockatils were $3 off. Since it was our first time there we decided to share our dishes, we ordered the Budsi Noodles with crispy pork and the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp. Both of the dishes were delicious. Mine was mediocre at best. Got three shrimps and some tough dried salted shrimps. I ordered spicy and it was not spicy, unless their idea of spoy is to add a table spoon of red pepper flakes on the side of your plate. I rate mine a 5 out of 10. I tasted hubby's and didn't care for it. He really liked his and rated a 8 out of 10. We ordered pan friend pork dumplings and they came deep fried. I ordered pad thai, overall it tastes good. However, I asked if they could remove tails not a big deal that they dont do that BUT most of my shrimp almost were fully shelled. Like the whole body of the shrimp had shell on it. Some even had partial heads in them. It just seemed like they rushed and made me wonder if there were even properly cleaned.
