Best eatery in Waterville! Authentic Mexican food handmade and delicious! The employees are extremely helpful and polite. They genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. A small quaint place with such a cozy feeling inside. You feel as if you are dining at your best friends house, not far from home. Drinks are delicious too. The first time we been to Buen Apetito the wait was long and the food was good, But this time we waited over hour just to be seated and another 30 to give our order and had to wait over 30 min.for our food. When the food came the dish was left under the heat light and they give a new meaning to fried beans and peppers. My wife's meal was fine! I ask to send it back my meal back to the kitchen. I waited for 15 mins. for the food to come back and when it came back the whole dish was very, very hot, to a point that the food burned my mouth. I could not eat the food. It took about ten min. to get my waitress back. I told her to sent it back that it was way to hot. I also told her that I did not want it. I did not go out to eat alone! I had my wife with me as my dinner date. The hostess came back an told me that my meal was comp. I told her that she does not need to comp. me, but my wife I did not eat the food and I sent it back to the cook. When my wife and I was talking, the bar waitresses give my wife a bill. The bar waitress did not wait for me to say anything and I had to find her. When I found her, I told that my wife's meal was comp. and I did not eat my food and sent it back. The bar waitress went nuts and started to insult me/ raising her voice at me and the hostess had to pull her away. And just think; I left a 30% tip with her. I should have taken that back. The bar was full of people, as well a it was wall to wall people and they saw everything as well as heard it all.... I told the waitress and hostess that we would never come back and walked out. The hostess was working her ass off. When I left, the hostess was still holding the bar waitress back. Too bad! That is not a way to run a business. That is one way to make your business fail. The food was good. Our frustration came when there wasn't a kids menu or at least kid portions for a few items on the menu. We would recommend the restaurant but not if you are bringing the kids and this may be what the want. read more

We've been eating at this restaurant for years every summer, since it first opened across the street. It has been an enjoyable experience, with friendly, attentive staff and pleasant surroundings, but the last couple of years we've noticed a change in the food. Having lived in México, we are familiar with Mexican food and seasonings and cumin is a common ingredient. But someone has decided that if a normal amount of cumin is good then a whole lot is even better and that seasoning everything with it is authentic Mexican - the salsa, the guacamole, the enchiladas, etc. Well, it's not authentic. The result is that everything tastes the same - like cumin and too much of it. That combined with a excessive amount of salt leaves you gulping water for hours afterwards. Hopefully "seasoning adjustment " can take place because this has been and could again be one of the best places in Central Maine to dine out. read more

Me and my mother went here for her birthday, expecting delicious mexican food and a good amount of flavour- instead we got bland food, no flavor, and disappointment. It was tightly packed, and I don't mean with people. The booths/tables were way too close together, and it made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. My mother got fajitas, and instead of the delicious chicken/veggie combo, she got bland overcooked chicken and insanely large slices of vegetables. For dessert we got the "Mexican Chocolate" which was just an undercooked brownie in a cup with some icecream on it. We could have easily made everything we ordered at home better and for less money. Overall it was just really depressing for the both of us, as we wasted $40 we could have spent at a much better restaurant. read more

This place is SO yummy. I've been twice, once with my mom who was visiting from out of town, and once with a large group of friends. I've gotten a bean and cheese burrito both times, and both were excellent, filling, and tasty. The waitress did a really good job of taking care of our large group and we appreciated her juggling the multiple alcoholic/virgin drink orders, many of which looked exactly the same. This place does usually have a line out the door, but it's worth the short wait and once you're in, the service is speedy. read more

The food is good considering it is Mexican and you are in Maine. The wait is easily over an hour. My husband and I refuse to wait an hour for a table for two..oh and don't try to reserve a table...they won't take a reservation for two and will not reserve a table past 5:30 pm. (We have been trying to have a meal there since January 2014 and NEVER have been able to get a table.) The person who answered the phone was snooty when I requested a reservation for two, "OH, no it just isn't worth it." were her words. Too bad ......BUEN APETITO lost a long time customer. read more

We were greatly disappointed in the 3 meals we ordered for my family. The tacos were bland and lacking flavor,with no garnishments. The chimi was the same. When I spoke to the staff , the manager was combative and angry. When I checked our bill, the small container of sour cream was extra. NO THANKS to this sad excuse for Mexican cuisine. read more
