I'm torn. Today was my second day in, it's cute and an iced Vietnamese coffee is right up my alley. It was good but not spectacular. Day two of a week long vacation and had decided this would be my morning ritual while here... That being said - had a very negative experience with a guy that works there: I'm new to Snapchat and it's not very user friendly. As the barista/waitress was making my drink I was looking at my phone trying to figure Snapchat out - what the symbols mean, etc (there are NO INSTRUCTIONS OR WORDS!). Argh. Anyway, as I'm sitting there staring at the screen and trying to decipher it, this voice from about 1/2" over my right shoulder says "Kind of creepy, don't you think?" Scared the crap out of me. I had no idea what he was talking about. The guy had crept up on me and was looking over my shoulder and since I had Snapchat open, (my hand resting against the counter in a comfortable looking at your phone position) and the lady fixing my coffee happened to be in the viewfinder. He proceeded to accuse me of being creepy for watching her on my camera - lousy enough for everyone else at the little bar to hear him. WTF. Once I figured out what he was accusing me of I told him it just happened to he pointing in her direction as I was trying to figure it out. He didn't believe me and was a total ass about it. She looked up and saw what was going on and apologized for him and said they've had problems in the past with creepy people taking pictures/videos of them. Ok, sorry about that - but I'm a 45 y/o woman on vacation at a coffee shop at 10 AM trying to figure out Snapchat, not some creeper in a nightclub trying to take up skirt pics of young girls. He never apologized and I was uncomfortable the rest of my time there. Embarrassed and really offended. Asshole. So I won't be back. There are other options and I'll be checking them out for the rest of the week. read more

So, it isn't really that easy to find a simple breakfast/brunch coffee joint on Vieques. Buen Provecho definitely hits the spot. The coffee is good, the food is good, the ambiance is casual and relaxed. The waitress was a bit of a Debby Downer ("you want coffee? Oh, I guess I'll have to make another pot, then...wahhhhh, wahhhhhhhhhhh) , but she did recommend a guest house for our last night before leaving, and it turned out great. Simply put, this place probably becomes more awesome the longer you are away from mainstream society. If you are on a short vacation, you will find it normal and adequate, which is wonderful in its own way. read more

When you visit an island you expect people and service to be pleasant, vibrant and fun but it lacked all of that. I specifically came to this place because it was the only place with acai bowls I could find. The lady preparing them had no idea how to make them and it was OK. Great service, great beer selection, and great food!! I was so glad we found this place. My boyfriend wanted breakfast and I wanted lunch and this place had both. I got a delicious veggie/pesto sandwich on ciabatta bread I'll probably be dreaming about for a while and my bf got an omelette that was SO good. It should be noted we're both vegetarian and had no problem finding great options. Coffees were also great. We were also so surprised to see such a great selection of Bell's beers, most notably Hopslam(!?!), that we had to get a couple to take to the beach. Drinking a cold Michigan beer on a hot sunny day on Vieques in March was a unique feeling that I wouldn't mind reliving daily. Alas... back to the real world I go. Staying at the W and rented a car to explore the island and beaches. Found this place for lunch (recommended by owner of Funky Beehive). Fresh cocktails, huge delicious sandwiches. Flew into Vieques at like 10:30 after getting up at 4... I'm pretty sure we could have eaten anything but man were we glad we found this little place. Great spot for breakfast during our visit to Vieques. Kids shared pancakes, which were more than enough for them with enough for the adults to try some as well. Authentic maple syrup, which is a rare sight in the islands. Breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito were both excellent. Iced coffee was amazing as was the grapefruit juice, which was fresh squeezed by our bartender. I would definitely come back or recommend to others. read more

Shockingly overpriced -- $5 (pre-tax and tip) for a cappuccino and $8 (pre-tax and tip) for a small bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. A $5 cappuccino on Vieques, Puerto Rico, seriously? It's literally cheaper to have a coffee at most cafes in Milan, Paris, Monaco or Nice than it is here. Moreover, service is unfriendly and extremely slow, considering most people are just ordering a coffee and a simple breakfast food item. The attitude of the staff (owner?) is also bizarre. Coming back the second morning, because I guess I was a glutton for punishment (okay, my friend wanted to try and order a smoothie), the bar was full, and we were told it would be an *hour* to be served (is this a deli or a fine dining restaurant?), which was, of course, a blessing -- we could go to reasonably priced Panaderia La Viequense instead (a few minutes down the road), which actually has Puerto Rican people eating there, a spacious seating area, reasonable prices, and better food. (If you just want a coffee, head across the street to the red shop/cafe with a front porch -- can't remember the name -- and order a *reasonably priced* coffee from the super friendly people there, who actually appreciate their customers and treat everyone with kindness, not just the New York "expat" crowd (yes, this is Puerto Rico, but these people treat Puerto Rico like another country). There's nothing special about this "gourmet market and deli" to warrant the insane prices, absent a place for unfriendly English-speaking tourists from New York to eat non-local food and whine about life in Puerto Rico. This little spot is a gem! My fiancé and I had the breakfast burrito and an omelet. The food was fresh and DELICIOUS! My fiancé said (about 10 times) "this is the best breakfast I've ever had!". There is no "view", but the music and vibe are great. We also ordered sandwiches to take to the beach with us. No surprise here... The sandwiches were fantastic. This is a double review of Buen Provecho, as we had breakfast here and also bought fish fillets from them to cook for dinner. Breakfast - We went here because of the other great reviews, the food itself was Fantastic and the service was good. The waitress/bartender was VERY busy so she wasn't overly friendly and chatty, but she was pleasant and got to everyone as soon as she was able. The food is freshly made and very tasty. My only comment on this place was the sanitation standards. There were TONS of flies hanging around the bar seating area and something definitely needs to be done about that. It was a bit off-putting. I''m also not entirely convinced of the cleanliness of the dishes. The market section was great and carried some produce and meats that you couldn't find in the grocery stores. We were renting a casita so we bought two Mahi fillets to grill and they were very fresh and delicious. No complaints there. read more

When I was in line to make my purchase I was asked to let the guy behind me check out before me for my grocery items. When I ate and the bartender told me the bill I told her I paid for my sandwich already and she snapped back with "how was I supposed to know that?!" I don't know if they were having a bad morning or what but I ended up going to a local market to buy some food. I planned to go back every day for breakfast but after that experience, I'll pass.
