Nice place for.some Mexican food. It is byob which is nice and there is no cork fee or anything. It is a small place so not good for big parties and it can fill up quickly. Check in on the yelp app and you can get a free dessert. They have a large selection of food to choose from. You ate also greeted with a basket of fresh chips, salsa, and tomatilla salsa. We choose the burrito and enchiladas. The burrito was giant and came with rice and beans. It was topped off with melted cheese and you could choose what meat you wanted. The only strange thing was it was served with a tomato like sauce. The enchiladas were also very large and served with rice and beans. You can ask for two things of rice if you dont want the beans. You can choose to have chicken, pork, or steak. You can also choose from 3 sauces, I stuck with the traditional mole sauce. The mole sauce was delicious. My only complaint is that I was not expecting the green peppers hidden inside. read more

Came here on a whim with 4 friends last night. When we walked in we weren't sure if they'd be able to fit us because it's a pretty small space. Luckily all of the other guests were accommodating and didn't mind us squeezing in another chair where it didn't really belong. The complimentary chips and salsa are very, very tasty. They come with two types of salsa: suizas and verde. They're both packed with flavor and heat and really complement the chips nicely. The menu has everything you could want: tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, chimichanga, you name it - they've got it. The portions are perfect for dinner and will leave you satiated. I ordered the enchiladas suizas and really enjoyed them. I like that you can do a mix of fillings! It feels like you're eating different meals. I had 2 with ground beef and one with steak. I have to say, the ground beef had a lot more flavor than the steak did. The steak was still delicious, but it was also a bit messier (bits falling out everywhere!) but I would order the ground beef over the steak. We also checked in on Yelp and got a free dessert: sopapillas. This was my first sopapillas experience and I loooooved it. Even after a filling meal of enchiladas, the sopapillas weren't too heavy or sweet. What a great way to end a meal. Service was also great! One note, though, I'm not sure that they have a restroom that customers can use. I didn't notice one in the front of the restaurant -- I assume there's one in the back for the staff. Super sweet employees, they bring you out some fresh corn tortilla chips and three types of salsa! My friend who is both Mexican and native to the area brought me here. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, which is literally a bunch of shrimp swimming in like tomato cocktail sauce with lots of onions and herbs. It was served with a bunch of saltine crackers. I ordered a taco and tostada combo, with steak. The steak was chewy and well-seasoned and the rice and refried beans were delicious as well! I stumbled upon this gem while biking through lake view on a Tuesday, when they had a $2 Tuesday special. I ordered 1 potato and 2 chicken tacos. WOW. I haven't tasted such tacos ever since I visited Playa del Carmen, the tortillas were fresh, the chicken was well cooked and marinated, and the potatoes were deliciously sautéed as well. This little joint on Broadway has good and greasy chorizo burritos and refreshing horchata drinks among its rather typical Mexican menu. Just stopped into Buena Vista for the second time to try out their taco Tuesday and was blow away. The homemade tortillas were soft, warm, and delicate but held together perfectly. The barbacoa and pastor were both flavorful and juicy with good portions of each. I was particularly impressed with the accompanying salsas which both tasted fantastic and added a great kick to the tacos. My side of rice was also very tasty. It only took about 5 minutes for my food to be ready and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be making this a weekly routine and look forward to next Tuesday already. read more

Mom, ma...are you in the back of the kitchen...The dark mole tasted pretty close to hers which is a rarity! Not many Mexican places make the dark chocolaty mole for enchiladas....its usually red or the verde (green). Had to try the pollo con mole and I was very pleased! The chicken was very tender, fell right off the bone and the mole was plentiful, every bite had the mole dripping off the fork. I didn't care for the sesame seeds on top of the chicken and mole (isn't that an Asian thing?) I wish they had chopped onions and queso fresco sprinkled over the dish. My date had chicken and steak tacos and she really enjoyed them as well and were loaded with delicious flavors! I love when Mexican places have refried beans that are not dry and taste like paste. Every Mexican loves their beans and has to have them at some point during the day! It was a relief to have the beans moist and flavorful. I really enjoyed the rice too. Some places have mushy rice or not enough tomato sauce in the rice...this place had it right! The salsa and chips were delicious! I LOVE when the salsas (red and green) and chips are not overly salty! The service was OK. Took the waiter quite some time to bring out chips and salsa when we first sat down and glasses for our BYOB of Sangria. Never really came and checked on our water for refills. They were not busy, there was another couple and a table of 4 occupied, so I was pretty surprised as to why it took so long. All in all I did like the food, the dark mole was such a treat! Went in for a lunch special today and ordered a veggie burrito. I have been looking for good Mexican food and saw all the positive reviews so I figured I'd try it for takeout. Boy was I disappointed! With my order I was promised a coke along with the burrito. There was no coke in my bag. I was sad when I got home and noticed but figured that stuff happens so it's fine..... Then I open the burrito....... The veggie burrito has 1 scoop of refried beans, a little sour cream, some guacamole (this was an extra request from me so I don't think it's included by default) some frozen peas, some frozen corn and some UNCOOKED diced potatoes. Straight up broke my heart because of all these positive reviews. I thought to myself "ok. maybe this place isn't a place where you want to order non meat dishes... but then why would they put it on the menu?" Wish I had the foresight to walk back down there and demand my money back. I was so upset that I just threw it away. read more

Ordered a beef burrito for delivery; the description was simply beef, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese, and beans. What I received was a burrito containing only beef, beans, and for some reason.... stewed carrots?!? The stewed carrots gave the beef a "is this rotten" flavor. I'm new to Chicago and we went here the second night of living here. Holy mole! And I mean holy mole, the mole sauce is amazing! Everything was delicious. I was especially happy with the salsa, so flavorful and a nice spice to it. Our table had the burrito, the taco salad, and the carne asada. The sour cream that comes with seriously tastes like frosting but in a good way. The mole was good as well, my boyfriend thought it was almost too rich (tasted like chocolate) but I'd say it was perfect Only negative was the guac- needed more salt and lime or something.. a bit bland for my liking but I doctored it up a bit Flan was great as well. They give you two types of salsa. A hot red and a mild green. Both very good. For my drink I ordered the horchata. I wasn't very crazy about it. Lacked Cinnamon flavor and was kind of watered down. So onto the food. I ordered ground beef and steak tacos. Now this place has as its main toppings , cheese ,tomatoes and I think onions. Not your traditional Mexican taco. So the steak was very good. You get a generous amount. The ground beef I wasn't a big fan of. And you know I love my ground beef tacos. It seemed to be marinated in a tomato sauce. Too many potatoes vs beef ratio. I recently moved back to East Lakeview after being away for a couple years. I've probably walked past this place a couple hundred times but I never walked in until recently. A gal pal and I decided to check it out, and I'm so glad we did! The food was AWESOME! To start, we ordered the mini chimichangas in addition to the chips and salsa they give you complimentary. A brief review. . . when you're in the neighborhood and you just gotta have it, this is the place to go. Picture this: a sunny, cold afternoon; an empty restauant, save for one waiter; and a baby boomer salivating for a taste of Mexico. Since a week-long trip to Puerta Vallarta is not currently in the cards, next-best choice is something hot and greasy. So I looked at the menu and said to myself, "Self, what do you really want?" And Self said, I want something hot and messy and spicy and totally satisfying and probably verboten on the Weight Watchers plan. So Self and I ordered an appetizer- queso fundido with chorizo. It arrived in a big bowl made of taco chips, with a side of four warm flour tortillas (my choice - didn't want corn). The cheese was hot and runny. A pile of chorizo was dribbled all over the surface, like gravel, but tastier. I took a taco chip and scooped out a hot, drippy mess. The cheese was melty and long trails of stringy cheese trailed down my chin. Oh my God, I thought - this has got to be better than cocaine could ever be. How could something so delicious be legal? I took a tortilla and dug in. It was fantastic. It was satisfying. It cleared my sinuses. Warmth spread through my chest (from the inside, that is - I didn't dribble THAT much!). I ate all four tortillas, and made pretty good progress on the taco bowl itself. All this happened around 3pm, and I'd had nothing to eat since about 8am. After this, I didn't need or want dinner. I went home and belched spices for hours. It was wonderful. I'm so glad I did this. Sometime I will go back and eat a real meal there, or order it for delivery. By the way, two other women came in and checked out the menu, and ended up leaving without ordering. One of the two was a vegan. She saw nothing she could order.
