I have been hearing great things about the Chophouse for years. I was told it has the best steak in buffalo. Being a huge picky steak eater I knew I had to try it. I made a reservation for 7 pm Friday night. We arrived at 7pm. There is a valet outside and they took care of my car. I was very impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant. The chophouse has an older feel to it and not in a bad way. The bar in front is spacious and has a ton of room to grab a drink. The downstairs has dimmer lighting where as the upstairs ( where we ate ) is brighter. The restaurant kind of has like a movie feel to it. Like a place they would eat at in the movie goodfellas. The upstairs is great. This is a high class place. Everything is very nice. Make sure you dress the part. The SERVICE was excellent. Our waiter was quick on his feet. He was very informative and gave good recommendations. Everything was brought out very fast. The DRINKS were $15 a piece which is high but it is an upscale restaurant. We each had two drinks. They were mixed well and very strong. They had a huge wine list and a solid cocktail menu. The FOOD: My girlfriend and I decided to split and 12 oz Filet ($59). I'm not even kidding this was one of the best steaks I've ever had in Buffalo. We ordered it medium. It was cooked to perfection. The steak was so tender and juicy. It was the best !! I can't say enough about it. Amazing !! I have no problem paying that much for a steak if it's that good. SIDES : We each had the Mac & Cheese. It was good but nothing special. Met a client for dinner, as expected with any Chophouse all our dinners were excellent. What sets a place apart is the service. From the valet, bartender and Megan our who was our server. After reading her reviews on line, I was glad to see she ended up being our server. She anticipated our needs and informed us on any menu changes. We went here for a birthday celebration. Reuben our sever was good! But the food all around was just alright for the kind of money your paying. On average your looking at $60 for a steak a la cart. I ordered my fillet and it came out super well done. I sent it back and they recooked it and it came out kind of medium. Another guest who ordered he steak well done it came out rare. I am by no means a picky eater but, when the bill comes to 700.00 for 5 people, the food should be superb and it just wasn't. Not impressed - My husband and I were anticipating a wonderful evening of fine dining, leisurely service, and good conversation in a stylish atmosphere. With that said, our bill was $267 before tax and gratuity; about what we expected. Would we return to BC? Absolutely not. First issue, my husband ordered lobster tail with his steak. Instead of the menu "add a tail...$36," we were billed $59 for the lobster addition. When questioned about the bill, our server stated that he "assumed" my husband wanted the cold water tail over the $36 and $49 choices. Secondly, I count on servers to guide customers as to portion size, etc. Our server clearly stated all items were a' la carte. So guess who ordered two side dishes along with their appetizer, salads, and main course? Yet, my salmon arrived stacked atop a healthy portion of grilled vegetables, of which I could not finish. Needless to say, the extra side vegetables went untouched. My husband enjoyed his steak but stated he's had better. My salmon was undercooked, I ate around the more well-done edges. My chopped salad was very good. Water glasses should never be empty (I had to get the server's attention for water?!) wine and cocktails were fine, dinner rolls so hard as to be difficult to cut/chew -left uneaten. Two drinks each, one appetizer, two salads, entrees, two sides -$290.37 with tax, add $50 tip for a total of $340.37 and you can certainly spend your hard earned money better. If you're looking for a place for a festive, special "feel," getting dressed nicely and being seated next to others dressed in sweatpants and hoodies somehow makes the evening a bit less special - please have a minimal dress code. One of Buffalo's very best! The Chophouse is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Whether you're having a date night, night out on the town, or just want to treat yourself, The Buffalo Chophouse is the epitome of delicious food and impeccable service complimented by its rich environment. This is one of my husband and I's go to places. Their steak is always perfectly cooked to the temperature you prefer and crusted with the most delicious peppercorn and salt seasoning. We often order the 14 oz strip they have and have them slice it to share which makes the perfect portion for two. While all their sides are great, on of my absolute favorites is their creamed corn. Its a classic steakhouse staple and the sweet velvety corn pairs well with the steak. If you're in the mood for desert, the Chophouse Sundae is hands down one of my favorite sundaes. Vanilla ice cream topped with hot fudge, brownies, and whipped cream its a classic sundae. Definitely order to share because it is HUGE. If your feeling something a little smaller and lighter, I highly recommend the Affogato. Its vanilla ice cream served with a biscotti and a hot shot of espresso. Pour the espresso over the ice cream and dig in. Don't forget to drink the melted ice cream and espresso at the end (its the best part)! read more

My wife and I came here for my birthday dinner. First things first and it's important to get this out of the way early. Come here for your birthday. If you weren't already aware of this, they give you $50 dollars off your entree (with ID proof). My $54 steak ended up costing us only $4. We ended up getting a couple of steaks here, the 12oz filet for my wife and the $4, 20oz Delmonico for me. We also split a couple of sides and ordered a cesar salad. The salad was easily big enough for two people (and delicious) and the steaks were excellent. The real star of the show was probably the family style sides. The mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were phenomenal. The Mac and cheese might actually rank up there as an all time great Mac and cheese for me. I should also mention the service and the drinks were excellent (even if they were expensive at $15 dollars a piece). To top everything off the manager came by at the end of the meal and gave us a free 40 dollar off gift certificate for our next visit. We will be back. read more

Decent steaks. Good service. Wouldn't call it the best steakhouse in the area, although it is one of the best in the downtown vicinity. Other good ones include Russell's and Kennedy's cove in the north towns. The service is always outstanding, the food is always good but the alcohol is overpriced, as with most upscale restaurants. On my birthday this year we came in for dessert after a nice meal at Rue Franklin down the street. We sat at the bar and I ordered my favorite - cheesecake. The bartender knew we were there for my bday so she had the kitchen write "happy birthday Jen" in chocolate on the plate and it came with a lit candle and everything! It was great... Although the cheesecake wasn't my favorite. As you may have read in my other reviews, since I went to eat at Peter Lugers steakhouse in Brooklyn while vacationing in NYC in May, they have completely ruined cheesecake for me because it has been impossible to find one in buffalo that's comparable. My cousin and I wanted to try someplace new for her birthday so she made reservations here and I'm so glad she did! We were greeted and seated immediately and the staff was super pleasant the entire time. Our water glasses were never empty, the bread butter and brie was delish, our martinis were superb and the entrees? Succulent. The crab cakes were perfectly seasoned and delicious, I had the sea bass with broccolini which was sweet and flaky and just right and she had the salmon, both beautifully plated might I add. This is not a place you'd go for a regular dinner....I'm sure some people do but those people are above my pay grade, lol. I made a reservation, our table was upstairs. The second level can see down to the first floor (mainly the bar) and our chairs were oversized red sitting room chairs. Very regal from the get go. We got two tequila sunrise, 8oz steak, roasted chicken, 3 sides (everthing is a la carte), creamed spinach, brussel sprouts, potatoes au gratin (it was a special). Two desserts, creme Brûlée (topped with fresh berries), and bananas foster. The meal started with complimentary warm rolls, and a small plate of feta, peppercini, and black olives. A nice touch. Nothing was rushed. Our waiter was young, charming and attentive. The table was cleared and de-crumbed as we went. It flowed, we were there about two hours. Where to begin, we eat at many fine steak restaurants in Boston and NYC and have been fortunate enough to eat at many others throughout the USA but Buffalo Chop House is way, way up there. From the moment you get there you feel welcome, the hostess was pleasant and showed us to the bar where we got our first cocktail. Lets start with the bartender, Russell. This guys is awesome, not only very professional but very friendly also, to top that of he makes a fantastic martini! Moving along we were seated in the beautiful upstairs dining room, this place is HUGE, and the decor is awesome, very reminiscent of the art decor / Gatsby theme.... Didn't think it could get any better service than Russell, but then we met Luke. This guy should teach other waiters, he's that good. Insightful on the menu, incredible knowledge of the dishes with explanations that you can understand, and an amazing talent for making you feel like you are the only ones in the room, we absolutely love this guy, so professional and again, yet so personable.. The food. I went with NY Strip and #2 went with fillet. Not usually a fan of the NY Strip as it can contain a decent amount of fat, but i ordered it anyway, 16oz, medium plus and it came out perfectly cooked. Not only perfectly cooked but the seasoning was epic, and the cut of meat was incredible, marbling was so intense most of the fat melted into the meat, i barely found a morsel of fat, the flavor was intense. #2 had the fillet, at first we thought it might be a little less cooked than we prefer but honestly, after trying it, it was perfect, thank god we didn't send it back to the grill. For sides we got asparagus and the button mushroom, huge sides with enough to feed 4 easily, asparagus tender and crisp, mushrooms sautéed in sherry with onions, beautiful. I have to say this was the best steak we have had anywhere, hands down and that's an amazing statement based on our history and amount of places we have been. The quality and the prep was spot on. No room for dessert but we went back down to the bar to see our new friend Russell and then we met another new friend Adam the GM! Another consummate professional with the incredible knack of making us feel like we were the only ones there. Service in here is above first class if there is such a thing, so glad we went and i cannot recommend Buffalo Chop House strongly enough. It was my friend's 21st birthday. And her boyfriend made reservations for this restaurant. Firstly, let me say the place has great ambience and the atmosphere is amazing. It is very classy dining experience. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because out of 2 hours and thirty minutes there, our glass of water was only filled once. It was evident half way through the night that our glasses were 1/4 empty yet the waiter nor anyone decided to fill them. Onto the food, I had the lamb loins. I'm not into rare and specifically asked the waiter to have it well done and reemphasized it. When I got it, the meat was very rare. Rare to the point I got sick and couldn't finish my food. My friends had the salmon (originally what I had chosen, but turns out they only had 2 left) and ratatouille. Overall, I believe you are getting a wonderful setting for the price. My mother was visiting for the weekend, so we wanted to dine out in style. We enjoy an occasional expensive meal. I am a steak lover, she loves her fish, so it was a wise choice. First, I loved the dim lighting and the quiet yet not too quiet atmosphere. Looks like this place used to be a warehouse before it became the chophouse? The staff greeted us right as we walked inside and immediately seated us upstairs. Our table had 2 large soft-cushioned seats *WIN* so we were super comfortable. I hate when you go to a restaurant and you're stuck in a wooden chair for 2 hours. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the bar, appetizers and entrees. If a waiter isn't knowledgeable about the menu, it's a turn-off. I like to hear their recommendations. They have a nice wine selection, a full bar, and they will make sure your drink is just right. They had a few red wines to choose from, which is necessary when you order steak. I ended up ordering the Kansas City Strip Steak (medium rare) and my mom ordered lobster tails. Both meals were cooked perfectly!! The steak was nice and thick, had some seasoning but not too much - NO NEED FOR ANY SAUCES. It was tender and stayed warm too. Usually I order a NY Strip, but I wanted to try the Kansas City because there's a bone in it, which can bolster the flavor. My mom enjoyed her lobster tails, but I'm honestly not the biggest fan so I won't comment on that too much. Of note, they have a decent-sized sides menu. We ordered the steamed broccoli (amazing) and the wild sauteed mushrooms, which were okay. I'm not the biggest mushroom fan because they can be quite rich, but these came out pretty good. We ended up skipping out on the appetizers so we can save room for dessert (smart move!) and we shared an Affogato - AMAZING. I dine at Steakhouses in this price range across the country with relative frequency. My informed opinion is that the bone-in ribeye at the Chophouse is the best steak you'll get for any price, anywhere. This is a classic steakhouse experience. The service is always excellent (shout out to Meghan, who needs a promotion), and you really can't go wrong with anything from the menu. The recommendation from this frequent diner is to try the crab cakes (newly modified, nice touch Chef Greg) and the creamed corn with your entree. Ive experienced the same negative element virtually every time I've visited The Chophouse (now ~10 times). I'm spending $350 on dinner for two, why do I have to sit next to someone wearing a baseball cap? Or sweatpants? Or who smells strongly of marijuana? I know you can't be discriminatory, but you can vet your clients at the time of reservation. Similar restaurants in large cities across the country enforce minimum dress requirements, and so should the Chophouse. It's the only thing keeping this from being a 5-star experience. read more

When it comes to steakhouses, I usually like to keep it simple (and inexpensive) at joints like Longhorn. I am so glad that my wife found a great deal advertised on Facebook for a free birthday entrée (up to a $50 value, with the purchase of one entrée, so it is basically a BOGO deal) so that I could get a taste of how the other half live at the Buffalo Chophouse! The Chophouse did not disappoint. Atmosphere - I loved the big bar and the large stair case, lights down low and Sinatra on the stereo. We sat off in a cozy corner (my wife had asked for a good spot ahead of time). Service - Shout out to our server Rick and his server "apprentice" Reuben for the unrushed, but not slow, service. Rick was knowledgeable about the various cuts of meat offered and was personable but not intrusive. The bread basket was very fresh! Steak - I can now say that I had an authentic steak at an all-American steak house. My strip steak was cooked to perfection (medium-well) and the seasoning was the perfect mix of salty and savoury. I chose not to have any clarified butter (the thought of it kind of weirded me out, no steak ever needs butter!). My wife's filet was good, but it was cooked just a bit beyond what she likes (medium to medium-well). The roasted asparagus was a great side, plentiful and cooked to perfection. We didn't have any room for dessert, but the banana fosters looked delish (the couple next to us ordered one). The birthday promotion was applied once I provided my photo ID with my birth date on it - yet another reason to love being an Aquarius (the promotion is currently only good for birthdays Jan to March). Not great. Really overpriced. The French onion soup tasted old, the sides with the steak tasted old and there was plastic in our potatoes. We had dessert because it was our anniversary and the brownies tasted like day old brownies, hard as a rock. Pros: The best steak I've literally ever had. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. The steaks (I ordered the filet, my husband ordered the delmonico) were flaw free. The service was excellent. It was our first time there and Luke ruled. Cons: They serve 8 tempura battered shrimp stabbed into a fresh pineapple that shortly thereafter gets a nice ride home to garbageland USA! Our sides lacked major seasoning. We got broccoli with a "cream sauce" that was super waterey and cream corn that was tasty once we added a little salt. The bacon on the wedge salad could of used a bit more warmth. It was cold and haphazard. The cocktails were satisfactory, but you can do a lot with ice these days, especially if you're serving a $15 cocktail(we ordered an old fashioned and a high falutin Manhattan)The tiny ice machine ice cubes have got to go. The food was good, but I have had better service at the Cheesecake Factory. I know this isn't the norm as I have eaten here before for a work dinner and the server I had in the past was extremely attentive and involved. Granted, this work dinner was over a $1K bill. The experience tonight was less than satisfactory. Our server, Troy, was unenthusiastic to put it politely. He did not bother to explain the specials or rather anything to us relating to the menu and after we were done and our plates were cleared by another employee (we hadn't seen him once the whole time between appetizers to dinner plate clearing) merely placed the dessert menu on the table without a word, then walked away for 10 minutes. Never bothered to check on us at any point, did not ask during our appetizer or meal how everything was although he treated the table next to us quite differently and attentively. These were two men; so not sure if this was blatant sexism or perhaps some classism as well. I felt slighted and unappreciated. It seemed as if because we weren't drinking or because my mom got the $50 birthday discount (on a Monday night taking my mom to a birthday dinner) that he had assumed we would not have a large bill so put no effort in whatsoever. I can understand we may not be the most upscale clientele but we are paying customers who although my mom got the birthday discount - we ordered appetizer, steaks and sides - were still planning on tipping to the amount of the order before the discount. I actually cannot believe how we were treated at what is considered a "5 star" establishment. I have dined at many upscale steakhouses in Buffalo, NYC, Chicago Boston, etc and never been treated with such disdain and apathetic attitude from a server. From someone who has worked in several customer service positions including serving in restaurants, I am absolutely appalled by Troy's service or lack of - ESPECIALLY in a setting such as this, if this occurred at a chipotle I would not be writing this review. That being said, the young lady who cleared our plates and filled our water was wonderful and polite - she DESERVES to be in front of guests. The more I think about, the most disgusted I am by how we were treated and I deeply regret suggesting to my mother, who simply wanted to be treated to a nice dinner for her birthday, to come to the chop house. Went there with a group of eight for a 50th wedding anniversary dinner. We were seated upstairs. It was so dark we could barely see the stairs to the second floor. After we were seated we mentioned to our server that we were VERY cold. He didn't do anything. Our server was not properly trained in service protocol. He brought 6 of the 8 appetizers and we had to wait ten minutes for the other two, served the men first and took their orders first. If this is fine dining they need training. FYI. Had such a great experience coming to the Chophouse for my three year anniversary with my boyfriend. We had Troy as a server and Nick as a busser and they were both amazing! Nick did not stop working the entire night. He was friendly and attentive to every table including ours. Troy remembered every detail and his service was just excellent! When we first sat down we ordered cocktails and mentioned that we were thinking about getting a bottle of wine with dinner. Before our entrees came out, Troy returned with the wine menu to ensure we could order our bottle. Our entrees were timed perfect and the food was delicious and cooked exactly how we ordered it! We're both fans of steakhouses and this one did not disappoint! The decor and ambience read as decadent as soon as you come in the door, and that's the word I think best sums this place up (in a good way). We each ordered a drink, a steak, and a few sides to share, and my wife and I agree that every part of our meal was one of the best two or three iterations of that thing we'd ever had. We also opted to share a Bananas Foster for dessert that at least rivaled, if not surpassed, the version served at Brennan's in New Orleans. I would be remiss if I didn't mention our waiter, Anthony, who was attentive without being overly so and who really took a great experience to another level. Started w their house Manhattan w rye whiskey, they were great and made quite strong. The lobster bisque was outstanding I thought, I couldn't stop and ended up racing through it lol, I'd get that every time. Chose the 12oz. Filet for my entree, cooked medium rare. It's honestly prob the best cut, cooked, and prepared filet mignon I've ever had. Served with a huge cup of truffle-like garlic butter. Since everything is à la cart, sides must be ordered separately and some are pricey but they are oversized meant to be shared between 2 to 3 people. So, on the table we had mashed potatoes and asparagus.. the mashed potatoes were kind of average but the asparagus was very good. For dessert we had the mile high chocolate cake which was delicious. Great atmosphere and our server was great too. The bill of course was obnoxious but we were fully indulging with two bottles of rosé and multiple cocktails, apps, etc.. all the trimmings. When I go out to dinner and expect to spend at least $100 per person, I certainly expect atmosphere too and you DO NOT get that at the Chophouse! My husband and I sat upstairs next to a window where the curtain was covered with dust, the paint was pealing off the window and there were bugs on the window sill. Then we were looking at dogs playing poker pictures! They desperately need to update this restaurant! I DO NOT care if the food is great, which it is not. I give it 6 out of 10, but I expect ambiance from a high end restaurant. This place is disgusting. read more

If you're looking to get fancy, this place is your place! They offer complimentary vallet because the parking lot is so tiny which ended up being super nice! You walk in and you can also check your coats in for free. You're greeted by a beautiful bar. Of course it's the first thing I noticed :) This is def a place where you need to get reservations. The decor is to die for. Huge thrown like velvet chairs. Dim lighting. It's gorgeous inside! Everything is al la carte and can pretty much feed an army, so def share! I ordered steak and shared sides with the table. It was delicious. As someone that typically doesn't eat red meat, I loved my dish! Few glasses of wine deep, the table decided to share the 12 layer chocolate cake. Please. Order this. Even if you're full up to your eyeballs. You can't leave this place without this cake. Restaurant week goers make your reservations! This was my first time at BCH and I doubt it will be my last. Restaurant week gives you an opportunity to try out all those places on your wish list and I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here. First off, know that you should dress up when you come here to eat! Secondly, the free valet service, friendly faces at the door, and decor (all updated 2 years ago) makes this an unforgettable experience. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and it was some of the best service I've had. I tried the prime rib which came with asparagus and mashed potatoes for $20.16 (great deal because usually the menu is a la carte) and the table ordered a bottle of wine. The prime rib was very tender and melts in your mouth but the sides weren't anything special. They also had a $30.16 option and $40.16 option which included a starter. We each had dessert- I chose creme brûlée which was some of the best I've had!! I gave this 4 stars because of the sides options and this isn't normally where I'd choose to go but worth it for you meat lovers! read more

I went here after reviewing all the restaurants in the buffalo area serving thanksgiving dinner and this one seemed to have the best reviews overall. Our waiter was very friendly and and described the turkey dinner so perfectly, it felt good because it made me think even more we have come to the right place for thanksgiving dinner. The portions were huge and delicious! Lots of turkey and it came with all the fixings. Stuffing, potatoes, squash, yam, asparagus, and cranberry sauce. It defiantly beat last years thanksgiving dinner which was a buffet at the Crowne Plaza. We travel every year from Toronto for our thanksgiving dinner, can't wait to come back for it next year! read more
