To be honest, I am not a huge sports bar fan. And wings always seemed way more expensive than they needed to be. All that being said, I like Buffa Louie's. Yes, there are TVs plastered over pretty much every square inch of wall, and yes, sometimes it can be hard to have a conversation when you constantly feel like the person you're talking to is watching the game over your shoulder, and yes, you might leave with a neck cramp from looking up the whole time, but all of those things are an exercise in expectations. Come here on IU or Colts game day, and the atmosphere is awesome. No, maybe this isn't the place to have a long, heart-to-heart conversation, but if you're just looking for a place to relax, watch the game, and order some good food for a decent price. this is the place for you. Order at the counter, and they'll bring the food to you. I'd highly recommend their boneless wings and/or their Sweet Lou burger. Both are going to leave your fingers feeling sticky, so make sure to stock up on paper towels. They've also got beers on tap alongside the usual fountain, so if you're of age, make sure to check that out. All in all, a solid wings place and a great option on game day! read more

Ok, i'm always on the look out for excellent wings and i found them at Buffa louies! The wings were well sauced, the TNT sauce was excellent though i can handle hotter, will go with volcanic next time. The garlic cheese bread was also spot on. The key for me to these wings being excellent is that 1)they were rather crispy and 2)the last wing in my basket was not soggy after 15 odd minutes sitting in sauce. That is key. If you are looking for an AUTHENTIC buffalo wing (been to Anchor bar in Buffalo), you won't find anything wrong with Buffa Louies! I see the owner takes time to read and respond to many comments. This is one place that my bf absolutely wanted me to try while visiting Indiana. I definitely agree that it's one of the good places to get your wings. It's super casual. You come in and order at the register and they'll bring it to you. One thing I didn't like about the menu was that it changed screens and didn't give me enough time to look at the different options. You'd have to wait for it come back around. For this visit, we ordered wings & tenders. For the Louie dozen (?), you get 15 wings with the option of 2 sauces. We got garlic parmesan and teriyaki. For tenders, it came with 2 sauces on the side, TNT (buffalo) and Rasta jerk(?). The jerk sauce was GOOOOD. TNT was spicy but good! We had a side of curly fries on the side which I didn't think was great at all. I thought the food was great. I would definitely want to come back and try their burgers. read more

BuffaLouie's has been my go to for all of college. I graduate this year and in the wake of this global pandemic I am making my exit from Bloomington for good today. My sister and I stopped in for one last meal. They were so busy and understaffed but every employee thanked us for supporting their small business in this tough time. We got our usual veggie wings which are the best food item I have ever put into my mouth. The owner remembered us from all the times we have been in before and wished us well with a smile on his face. Me and my friends had a poopy day due to a potential nader comin at us and we were all sad and hungry little 20 year olds moping around the house until one of my so called friends requested wings. I DONT EVEN LIKE WINGS & I NEVER WILL. I was hurt by this request because I thought they were my friends:/ when we first arrived the ambiance was nothing out of the ordinary. It was a perfectly wood and brick structure I've never seen anything like it before. Walking in there was the most upbeat music playing that really made me happy to be alive and I couldn't help but bust a move. We were super disappointed -- we usually have great luck finding places based on Yelp ratings (at the time of our visit, this restaurant had a 4-star rating with 170 reviews). The young man taking our order was a new employee and he politely apologized when he got hung up a bit entering our order. He attempted to get help from the dozen or so employees milling around behind him, but two just looked and him and walked away before a third stopped to help with an exasperated sigh. The new hire gave us a sheepish, apologetic look while the "helper" jabbed her finger on the screen (not showing him how to do it, just doing it for him) -- however we didn't blame him one bit. He acted like an absolute professional, considering how little training and assistance he was given. Our food arrived surprisingly fast (earned 1 star of the rating), however we immediately noticed part of our order was wrong. We explained to the server that we ordered a side of loaded fries, not a side of plain fries. She gave us an odd look, then walked away -- we assumed to correct our order. But I could see her from our table... she went to the kitchen window to chat with another employee, then shrugged her shoulders and turned around to stand at the counter. We finished our burgers (but not the fries in case they took them back) and she was still standing there. So I went to the counter to ask if they had been able to rectify our order. She said we didn't order loaded fries and... well... that's it. That's all she said. She just stared at me. Because we didn't receive a receipt, I couldn't prove anything, so I just went back to our table and we ate our now-cold fries. Regarding the burgers. My son LOVED the All-American he ordered (earned the 2nd rating star), but the one my husband and I shared was sorely lacking. Granted the meat was very tasty, there was very little of it. It was supposed to be two patties, but they barely added up to one and didn't go to the edge of the bun, so we ate mostly bread. 2 stars simply for the wing flavor. Yesterday was my first time ever ordering from Buffa Louie's. Out of respect for small businesses during COVID, I chose to order wings from here. This was my experience: 1. Placed a pickup order online that was to be ready at 6:20pm (I also tipped 15% on this order). 2. I show up at 6:30. The order isn't ready and came out about 5 minutes later (15 minutes late). They have about 6 employees standing around giggling and laughing. 3. They give me my order. I drive home (15 minutes away) and notice that they didn't include the side I ordered ($3 worth of food). 4. I call and was immediately put on hold, so I got back in my car. I told the girl on the phone what happened. No apology, no anything besides "the tots will be ready for you". 5. Walk in, again no apology or anything. I drove back for $3 worth of food, which isn't worth the time or gas, but I figured they would make it right and they didn't. Very disappointed. The wings are flimsy and don't have much meat. From the light fixtures, to the stools, to every inch of memorabilia on the wall, BuffaLouie's is maxed out with the IU logo. Once you enter, walk through the cream and crimson decor to reach the counter where you order. For wings, choose between boneless or regular. Choose snack (5), single (10), Louie Dozen (15), double (20), or a half bucket (25) if you're eating in. Lots of sauces to choose from; ask your server about them at the counter. I recommend curly fries as a side. There are also burgers, subs, wraps, and sandwiches as well as chicken tenders. Last time I was at BuffaLouie's, food delivery to my table was pretty disorganized. Servers just yell out your name and hope to find you...it's an issue because there's the main level, a lower level, upper levels, and outdoor seating. Unpopular opinion...I don't care for the owner. I've even tried their "impossible burger" version and it's also incredible. The burgers have been cooked to perfection each time I've had them. I spent about a week in Bloomington and I found this place to be the best burger in town. I've tried the Sweet Lou's burger. It's an amazing burger topped with extra barbecue sauce, double patties, with the onion rings as well. It's an amazing burger that I will definitely recommend. I've also tried the Shroom N Swiss burger which is great but not as good. Double patty filled with melted cheese, an onion ring and a lot of mushrooms. Still a great burger but I would still recommend a Sweet Lou's. I love that branding stamp on every burger. As to the wings I was not very impressed with the quality. I ordered hot BBQ boneless wings and asked for extra sauce on the wings (they charged me 69 cents for that). The picture below shows what I received. I wish I was here longer, or just should've had a big appetite because this place has the best wings in Bloomington. To begin, the place has the looks; its wooden decor really makes it feel more like a fun place to be. There's no wonder why it attracts so many people here to watch IU games and other sports. The environment is always filled with excitement every time when there is a football game on the television or even any basketball game. Now, for me, it was our last time to be on campus with my sister, and moving boxes and furniture into a trailer made us hungry. So, we went to this restaurant around 11 pm, which was almost close to their closing time. The ordering process went smoothly, especially with me, because I just wanted some boneless wings that was really spicy. So, that's basically what I got; a 10-piece (Lucifer) Boneless Wings (the hottest sauce that the cashier recommended). There are also other things on the menu, that's if you aren't interested in their amazing wings, like burgers, chicken, salads, subs, and more. My mom and dad both got burgers, and what was really interesting was that they printed the restaurant's logo on top of the bun, which is pretty cool! Afterwards, we got some sides as well, which was curly fries and chili fries. Both of the sides were stunning, and I couldn't stop eating this stuff because of how delicious it was! The only concern that I had was their delivery process. In order for them to find you, they would call out the name that you provided to the cashier from the beginning. To be honest, if I worked there, I would have a hard time trying to find someone when the place is noisy, especially when there is 3 levels to sit at; I would be all over the place. Hard not to give this wing shop five stars. This was our second visit to Buffa Louie's We were in Bloomington to visit our senior son. He was not with us and we have been to the restaurant two years earlier. The last time there we didn't try the wings we had something else. But this time all three of us tried the wings, We all had different varieties. They were very good. Actually they were some of the best we've ever had. We also had the beer battered onion rings they were good too. We had a chance encounter with the proprietor of the restaurant who is in the witness protection program. That is the response I got when I asked him how he got from New York to Bloomington Indiana. Ed Schwartzman probably had too much shtick! but you could tell he had a good time making sure his customers were happy and enjoying the environment of Buffa Louie's. We stopped in with the kids.....$115 later, without a beer, and no table service, I would say - decent, but not worth going out of the way or standing in line for. Salads were really good, as were the boneless wings. However, the traditional wings were the smallest I have ever seen. They were seriously smaller than papa johns wings for just about twice the cost. (They seriously could have used some growth hormones!) Love the boneless wings here and the burgers and the fries! It's the perfect picture of a college joint and is across the street from the iconic sample gates, so when you're visiting campus is a great place to pop in. I always go for the hot wings and the parm garlic. Ive tried the honey barbecue, but it is way to sweet and gooey for me. The buffalo and barbecue burger are great and the fries are awesome but the size of the order varies - sometimes generous, sometimes skimpy. Service can be very inconsistent and is often slow...however it usually doesn't bother us because we go there with friends and have a nice time enjoying each other's company. You can literally go anywhere in town and get a full meal for 8 dollars but in your restaurant that just covers the basics. How much do potatoes cost? One lb of russet potatoes costs a dollar per pound on whole sale price. With 1/3 lb being a large serving size of french fries that equates to 33 cents for french fries plus a fountain drink which is literally cents. So let's say fries and drink will cost you 80 cents which includes other ingredients. You charge 2.79 plus 60 cents for cheese. Put it all together plus tax the cheapest a chicken sandwich meal will cost is 10.57. Really man? C'mon let's be real about this. A meal for nearly 11 dollars you would go to a sit down restaurant where people bring you water and take your order when you've been seated. I've been around for a while and am not a fool. I know the worth and value of things and know when I'm being ripped off. At your place you have to wait in line to put in an order and sometimes you get the "I called the name no one came". Give me a break. It wouldn't kill the business if someone walked in and paid 9 dollars for a burger with cheese a drink and fries. Also, I didn't even mention the times I didn't get my food and had to bother the staff for them to either put out my food or give me back my money. Seriously man I don't have an agenda here just telling it from my experience and in my experience I have not enjoyed my visits to your restaurant. Located at the historic gables building in Bloomington, Indiana, Buffa Louies is considered a go to stop for wings around campus for students, parents, faculty and alumni. Before you walk in the door you are greeted with a USA Today article claiming Buffa Louies as a "Top 10 wing joints in the country" and after going there several times I am beginning to think the rating of the wings is a placebo effect. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere in this place is incredible and a picture of the owner and Ron Jeremy is enough for me to consider him a legend but I've had wings at biker bars that put these to shame. Now I've been to many places which claim excellence for their wings and have been nothing but disappointed but I thought USA Today was a reputable source (I will no longer take anything they post seriously). I'll be direct here and tell you that it's the one wing place I go and order chicken tenders. They have good tenders but that's hard to mess up and not why I'm writing this review. Like any wing connoisseur, I am concerned with the fact that they have more BBQ sauces than Buffalo. I'm a big buffalo guy and the sauces are so bad I've considered bringing my own franks red hot. Moving from medium to hot, you go from a nice orange sauce which lacks heat to a red sauce that could be mistaken for marinara. I can handle a good amount of heat and wont even dare going up the spice chain any more in fear of even less flavor. I've had wings here that lacked a reasonable amount of sauce too many times for me to consider it a fluke. The wings themselves have horrible texture and lack any crisp. The curly fries are solid but that's not enough for me to give them a higher rating. The only positive is they open early, and when my 2 favorite wings places at IU (Kilroys on Kirkwood and Wings Extreme) aren't open, I'm forced to go here out of craving.
