We used to really like the Montrose location. We tried this location once years ago, and were turned off by the dirtiness. However, we do like their burgers so we occasionally get take out or delivery. There's always minor problems and hiccups with the order, but today is the last time I eat from here. The fries were all soggy, as usual. We requested that the 3 adult burgers be cooked medium well and they were all medium rare. Totally unacceptable. They also messed up the burger toppings. This place however is equally terrible. Setting Typical indoor, diner style setting Drinks - 2 stars The drinks took forever to receive. Add on to the fact I felt bad for the bartender who is having to mix cocktails in a completely non ideal setting. No wonder it takes forever! Once the cocktails did arrive they weren't that great. Food - 2 stars The burgers were gross. Similar to past experience, they were seared to the point of burnt on the outside yet jimmy icy in the outside. Unfortunately all one can taste is charcoal. I decided to try something different and go the goat cheese burger, I highly recommend it! It's probably one of the best burger's I've ever had. It had a unique flavor and I really enjoyed it. I got tots on the side, they were just okay. The taste was average, and they were nice and crispy, but I didn't like that they were basically fried mashed potato balls that crumbled apart when you picked them up. I saw one of my favorite yelpers post a UYE here not too long ago. I was not able to make their UYE, but it got me to bookmark the location. At the time of me visiting the place my friend had not written his review yet. First off, when it shows up on the Hot & New, if it has a decent rating I usually bookmark it, so in this case it was a double bookmarked location. First off, it's right off I-10 which makes it easy, the exit is a bit rough, but from my experience the feeder wasn't that crazy so you can dive bomb across, if not get to the light and turn in there. When I got to the door I noticed I liked the logo. I got to the counter, and the menu is up above on LCDs. I hate how restaurants are doing this. My vision isn't the greatest so it's hard to read. They did have some smaller printed menu when the guy at the noticed I was struggling. The menu is a bit confusing, I ended up getting a Truffle burger and truffle fries. To my knowledge I did not see any kind of combo/bundling discount. I sat down and awaited my burger. When it arrived, I noticed it was smaller than I had hoped for. They are pretty pricey for even a gourmet burger. I devoured my burger, it was good, but nothing amazing. With burgers these days it really takes something spectacular to wow me. The fries on the other hand was pretty solid. I like the thinner fries, because they can get more crispy. The truffle oil was light, didn't really notice it. I didn't order any drinks with that, but notice that the beer pricing here is probably on par with ordering beers at a bar. I thinks a bottle of craft beer is around $4 or so. Especially after reading all the raves and reviews from other Yelpers. After I placed my order, I was lucky enough to snag a table and waited a little while. My order didn't take too long to prepare so that's a good thing. When I finally got my order, I was already hungry (and when you're hungry, everything tastes better, right?) So imagine my disappointment when I took that first bite of my burger. It was good, but it wasn't THAT good. The patty was pretty dry and not juicy as I like it - it felt more like eating a bison patty instead of some juicy hamburger. Don't get me wrong, the bread and the bacon were good, but I didn't come here for the bread and the bacon. I came for the burger. And the burger means beef hamburger patties!!! I'm also a fan of truffle fries. So when I tried the "truffle" fries but realized that it tasted more like regular fries to me because I could barely taste the truffle, I became even more disappointed. If I ever came back here, I would completely skip the truffle fries altogether and try something else. I'm not sure if it was just a fluke because other Yelpers seem to love their truffle fries. But to me, just eh - average. The hype that surrounds this place might have increased my expectations a little bit. But hey, good burger is good burger. You combine the average tasting burger and fries with the high price, you get a place that I probably wouldn't bother to come back to unless I'm meeting up friends who want to dine here. 4.5 Stars... Burgers were awesome! We had no problem with service as some people mentioned. We went on a Saturday around 1:30pm so there was not a crowd, 80% of the tables were full. People came in with time gaps so there was never a line. Two of us had the Texan burger with no lettuce, one person had the Truffle burger. The burgers were seasoned well, cooked to perfection, just a thin line of pink, juicy with crispy bacon (excellent in its own right) awesome crispy onions and sweet bbq with just the perfect amount of spice/kick. We ordered one regular fry and two truffle fries. We probably could have split one and will do that in the future. We had really good service, food came quickly and hot. Good beer, pecan porter. Just an average experience at Buff Burger. The gentleman who took our order wasn't particularly friendly or engaging. It felt like a struggle for him to even speak to us, so we didn't get off to a great start. This Buff Burger has a small beer selection but the Bombshell Blonde I had was delicious. Our food came out promptly. I ordered the Avocado Burger (I subbed the beef patty for a falafel patty) and truffle fries. The falafel patty was not good. It was dry and flavorless and definitely was not handmade, it definitely came frozen from a box. Tasted more like a frozen boca burger than falafel. The stars of the show were the burger's bun and veggies. The avocado was fresh and delicious, and the bun may have been the saving grace of the sandwich. However when I ordered my bunless burger and finally got it home and unwrapped, (it was sealed nicely) I had so much lettuce to get through that I might as well have ordered a salad. Now, the cook on the meat was perfect. THANK YOU! You can cook your meat but I think all those leaves washed any seasoning off. That spicy ketchup was good though. Tiny fries, cute. But not for hungry humans. So first time takeaways, perhaps I eat my lettuce wrap-salad-burger in house next time. Buff burger is a hidden gem right off the interstate for gourmet burgers. Just as it says, the burgers do seem to be light and fresh. I tried the buff burger and it was delicious, it met my expectations. The service was nice and on time, I'll say, I wish the fries were bigger they're very skinny. I kept seeing BuffBurger on the side of I-10 as well as their sister location in Memorial for ages and finally decided to check it out. For the longest time I thought they were a health food place since they're next to a couple gyms at their Memorial location and have "Buff" in the name, or maybe that is why it's called BuffBurger?(someone help me out there) I don't know, but I do know the burgers are great! They source all their meat and ingredients from local suppliers, including the famous 44 farms beef that goes into all their burgers. They have quite a few creative burger options as well as countless add-on toppings. Beyond burgers, there are a few salad choices to choose from along with the "in the buff" option where you can have any burger wrapped in lettuce. (is that why it's called BuffBurger?!) Pricing is a little higher than your regular burger joint but consider the ingredients are higher end than the sysco food frozen parts and you'll thank yourself for the extra $5. Quiet little, local burger joint in the Spring Branch area. Had the BuffBurger with lettuce, onion, pickle, mayo, American cheese, and bacon also ordered a side of their truffle fries. The fries were a little over cooked for my liking but the burger was perfect. The lighting in the restaurant was very fluorescent, could be scaled back some and use a more 'yellow' light. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly. This is my second time in and I have enjoyed both of my experiences. A great place to go to for a great burger and fries without driving through a fast-food lane or waiting in a ridiculous line around the block at an overhyped burger joint. This little place off the Katy Freeway is similar to those press junkies Hopdoddy and Shake Shack, but without the lines of suburbanites looking to try the latest thing. They specialize in organic and hormone-free items, so you also know you're eating as healthy as a burger can be (right?). I kept it simple with their Buff Burger but added fresh jalapeños because I like it spicy! Their side of fries are are regular size (nothing oversized to share) and come with a variety of options. They have jalapeño ketchup here (á la Whataburger) that tastes very fresh and homemade. They have some of the best iced tea I've ever had in Houston. No joke! My only criticism is the atmosphere. I came after sunset and the lights above the tables were that bright blueish light that reminds me of an aquarium. It made the room feel like I was in a jail cell. I've seen several local food bloggers rave about BuffBurger. I decided to give it a try after seeing the delicious watermelon margarita one of them posted recently. The first mistake I made was clicking on the link of the bloggers photo, which took me to the Memorial location and not The Heights location that I desired. When we arrived we realized that this location did not have the cocktails. We were a little disappointed but decided to still enjoy the food anyway. I ordered the years bird chicken sandwich with parmesan truffle fries on the side. My fiance ordered the classic BuffBurger with regular fries. I also ordered a side of their smoky queso. Our food came out quickly and the staff was polite and attentive. My chicken sandwich was good. the chicken itself was flavorful and juicy. The bread was soft and warm. The sauce that comes on it however left something to be desired. The cashier described it as being similar to a Cane's sauce but it did not have that same peppery flavor to me. The pickles that come with the sandwich are bread and butter style pickles and did not compliment the sauce at all in my opinion. The parmesan truffle fries were great flavor-wise, but they were soggy immediately after we took them out of the bag. We ate inside the restaurant for reference. My fiance described her burger was being delicious and extremely flavorful. All in all, I would give BuffBurger another try with a few adjustments to my order and a change of location to the Montrose one with cocktails. read more
