This is not a walk in store. It's their commercial kitchen. I came on a Saturday around 10am and there was no wait. I was looking for a baguette but was told they don't have any, they were all made for delivery but most people come here for their French rolls aka bolillo so I got 2 for $1.40. They were still warm and crispy. I took a bite and I liked the crispy exterior. It was also a fairly large roll.

Croissant as big as my hand

Their croissants are AMAZING and huge! I got their classic butter croissants, chocolate croissant, and their turkey, cheese, and jalapeno croissant. So buttery and flavorful! I enjoy that there is structure to it so if you want to dip it in tea/coffee you can, make a sandwich you can, etc. These croissants are not your typical fall apart/crumble everywhere on your kind of croissant. These have buttery layers with integrity to them. Their chocolate croissant has mini morsels melted throughout the inside which gives it a perfect amount of sweetness. The turkey, jalapeno, and cheese croissant is my absolute favorite!!! It has the perfect balance of butteriness, a little sweetness, and savoriness!!! I will definitely be back to try their fresh bread and for more croissants!!!

This is the best banh mi bread around. My mother is a Vietnamese war refugee who landed in the Midwest during the late 1970's. For over 40 years, she had not tasted traditional banh mi bread. My parents fortunately relocated to the Bay Area after my sister and I established careers here. After I discovered Bui Phong, I knew I had to share this bread with my mom. Now, whenever I have a chance, I pick up baguettes and/or rolls for my mom so she can make banh mi and have it on the side of her curry at home. I can see her light up whenever I bring her this bread, and it warms my heart to be able to bring an authentic taste of Vietnam back into her life. Keep up the great work, Bui Phong Bakery!

Come early in order to try their filled croissants- they were already out of everything by 11:30am on a Friday. There were only butter croissants and baguettes left during that time. Bui Phong is located off the beaten path, and you'll need to make sure you follow Waze. They have a counter you order at, and they package your items for you. I tried: -Croissant ($1.50, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=oSHGm9iDLOJ00H9RWTzN6A&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): GIGANTIC croissant! It looks like it could be overbaked, but it's still soft and fluffy in the middle. It wasn't as buttery or flaky as I prefer, but it was still a solid croissant for the price. Worth trying once, and great for sandwiches! -Small Baguette (2/$1, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=kkKIzTf3VTp6AdvIaBcUgg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): Solid baguette, and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside- Recommended! Service is no-frills and efficient. As other Yelpers have mentioned, this isn't the nicest neighborhood, and I would recommend coming during their morning/afternoon hours. Parking is also difficult to find in this area, but there were a few street parking spots available.

My husband and I were in Oakland early in the day. I asked him to go to Bui Phong to buy fresh bahn mj bread. I didn't realize that they only take cash. I only had two dollars on that day. When we were in line we were hearing people just say 5 dollars and they get a big bag of bread. So when it came my turn I handed them my two dollars and I got 3 breads which was nice and crispy. It was really good! I was under the impression that they only take cash, but I was corrected which is great!!

The historical occupation of Vietnam by the French has given us remarkable cuisine to include bakeries such as Bui Phong. Nothing fancy except for the exceptional skill that are demonstrated in their baked items. The offerings are straightforward....bread and croissants. That about it. As a caterer, places like this are invaluable.

Sweet dinner rolls $2.50 a bag

TikTok made me do it. I finally made it here. If I rate this bakery on the quality of their baked items and prices it's a solid 4 stars The croissant is huge!! Nice and buttery, flaky, and soft. The sweet rolls soft and sweet. They just melt in your mouth. For a bag of sweet rolls it's only $2.50. And a croissant is $1.25 each. Unfortunately I didn't get to try any other items. They were sold out For the most part Covid guidelines are being followed in regards to social distancing. Basically there is a door that you walk up to and order from. Reasons for not rating this bakery higher: * * Customer service wasn't friendly. I get it I got there about 10 min before they were due to close and I guess I was the annoying customer that showed up right before closing (they close at 9pm). ** I saw an employee NOT wearing a mask. Big NO NO in my book especially since it is a food service venue. ** Parking is an issue. Especially when you drive a big truck. Frankly there was NO parking available and we saw other customers double park and soooo we did too ** location is very sketch at nite. Just don't go at nite. Don't do it!! You will thank me later. We saw prostitutes and other unmentionable things rt in front of the business on the corner. Will I go back ABSOLUTELY but with more time and during daylight. Hopefully next time I can try their chocolate croissant and their turkey and jalapeño croissant

This place is surprisingly basic but has excellent croissants! As you can see from the menu, they only sell a few items but do them well. The croissants are dense and huge, at least an adult face size and the flavor is just as good as Costco ones. We were here early Sunday and there was a line. The location is a bit sketchy but the service was fast so it was fine.

A true gem. Tarts de…read moreFeybesse creates some of the most beautiful and artistic pastries in the area. Every item feels thoughtfully crafted and almost too pretty to eat. Almost. What makes them even more special is the Filipino-French influence woven throughout their creations. The flavors feel both familiar and unexpected, bringing a unique twist to classic pastries that you won't find just anywhere. Perfect for special occasions or simply when you want to treat yourself!

Jamie W and I decided to pay a visit after our gym workout because we figured we could reward ourselves for breaking a sweat. Arriving in the last hour before closing, we were happily anticipatory that their display case was still well stocked. It was no surprise how gorgeous it was. We had seen the Instagram photos of the visually striking, trompe l'oeil "fruit" pastries (Photo 6). They were indeed mini-works of art with thin, white-chocolate shells that easily crack open to reveal appropriately sweet fillings. We limited ourselves to four items because we didn't want to get carried away...literally. Besides, they weren't cheap. Our priciest item was the $14.50 Peanut shaped like a giant peanut shell and filled with a light peanut butter mousse. There was also a strawberry gelee and a crisp peanut butter wafer that helped reflect the intended PBJ concept. It was just a bit sweet for me. The second item, the $12 Coconut, was my favorite. It was designed to look like a perfectly cracked open coconut with the outer hull made of textured milk chocolate and the "meat" made of white chocolate (Photo 7). The macapuno entremet core reflected co-owner Monique Feybasse's Filipino background. It consisted of coconut whipped cream mousse freckled with macapuno and coconut shavings, and a chocolate coconut sponge cake. The entirety was a true tropical experience. The $8.50 Pistachio Eclair was the most straightforward of the quartet with a golden pate-a-choux shell, pistachio pastry cream with a matcha-like powder, and chopped pistachios (Photo 10). The basic approach taken was enhanced by the quality of the execution. The $4.50 Madeleine was a comparative bargain and quite a treat, providing a soft-crumbed sponge cake covered in a pistachio coating shaped like a seashell (Photo 9). Monique and her husband Paul clearly know what they're doing, having extensive experience in Michelin-starred restaurants like the acclaimed Geranium in Copenhagen. On Sunday afternoon, there was a constant stream of customers, many of them regulars who knew exactly what to order. FOOD - 4 stars...craftsmanship and execution are aces, some satisfy more than others, also a bit pricey AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...crowded so hard to tell beyond the striking displays SERVICE - 4 stars...nice though necessarily transactional TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely an eyeful even more than a mouthful RELATED - Exploring Oakland? Arizmendi Bakery is a Bay Area institution and it absolutely earns the hype…read more The pizza alone is worth the trip -- they only do one flavor a day, but whatever's on the rotation is consistently incredible. Thick, chewy, perfectly charred crust with a sourdough tang that you just don't get from regular pizza dough. Toppings are fresh and generous without being overloaded. Grab a slice (or a whole pie) and you'll understand why people plan their day around what flavor is being served. The sourdough bread is just as good -- crackly crust, open airy crumb, and that deep tangy flavor that tells you it's been properly fermented. This isn't supermarket sourdough; it's the kind of loaf that makes plain butter taste like a gourmet experience. It's a worker-owned cooperative too, which makes supporting them feel even better. Expect a line, especially on weekends, but it moves quickly and is so worth the wait.
