    Jamaican me hungry pie
    Brian V.

Small shop in a small strip mall in Valencia that specializes in a variety of savory pies (they have sweet pies and other desserts as well). The folks here are super friendly and warm. The vibe at the shop like going to a very familiar place even if you've been here for the first time. I was working in the area for a little while and I'm a fan of savory pies. I wanted to check this place out. I ended up coming back to this place a few times so I was able to try a bunch of different pies. I haven't had a pie from here that I didn't like. My personal favorite was a special I think they had which was boeuf bourguignon. Even if I had lunch somewhere else, if I was in the area, I would pick up a pie because it became kind of a little ritual where I would bring it to my parent's house and share with my dad the next morning.

Quick grab and go place with an excellent selection of meat pies. I enjoyed the variety. Staff said the minced meat and cheese is one of the more popular pies. We tried the chicken curry, Jamaican me hungry, roast beef, and pot roast. The pie was filling and I enjoyed the top crust.

Very friendly atmosphere and loving the music! We came here to try their pies after 3:30pm. The cashier was friendly and ready to help us out. I'd recommend arriving earlier if there's a particular pie that you want. They were out of the butter chicken pie. I ordered the Mama's Lamb, Chicken Curry Pie, Pot Roast Pie, Smoked Brisket Pie, Jamaican Me Hungry Pie, Lamb Roll, Pineapple Pie, Banana Pudding Trifle, and Guava Pudding Ripple. My only complaints were on the Chicken Curry Pie, Mama's Lamb Pie, and Pineapple Pie, that filling is more mush instead of texture. I would've liked less potatoes/sweet potatoes in the Chicken Curry Pie and Mama's Lamb and not over cook it so the vegetables don't turn into mush. I wasn't a fan of the Pineapple pie so I'll leave it at that. As for the other pies: The Smoked Brisket Pie, Jamaican Me Hungry Pie, and The Pot Roast Pie; absolutely delicious!!! You can definitely taste the smokiness in the brisket, the spices in the Jamaican pie, and the veggies in the pot roast were cooked to perfection! These 3 pies are its own flavors and are well textured with the perfect amount of meats in the them. The Lamb roll was great! The dough that's used to make the pies and rolls, are flakey and melts in your mouth. The Banana Pudding and Guava Pudding is not over sweet and the perfect pairing after eating the pies. Definitely will be back for the 3 pies and puddings

Second time here, and the pies are definitely delicious. The crust is flaky and buttery, with a flavorful filling. The service and ambiance are excellent and welcoming. I also love the island music you hear as you arrive--it sets such a great vibe. Butter chicken Smoked brisket

If I lived closer I would be here everyday !!! The quality of their food is unmatched. So flavorful and the crust is perfect. The owners are some of the nicest and sweetest people you'll ever meet. A million out of 10

SO FULFILLING! I picked up my sisters order for her dinner and I ordered my two for lunch! I got the smoked brisket, Jamaican chicken and also the banana pudding. I ate my Jamaican chicken right away, it was so good!! Full and flavored! Got a nice spicy kick. I loved the banana pudding as well, I wish it had a bit more cookies, but that's a personal preference. The next day I ate my smoked brisket, since I was so full from the other one. I think I would warm it up next time in the air fryer, I didn't like the texture from warming it from the microwave, but once again, personal preference. The staff were nice and definitely gave me grace period while I figured out what I wanted.

Been wanting to try this place since they opened, finally got a chance to go. Best new food I've tried in a while. The pie crust was buttery, flakey, everything a pie crust tries to be. Had the Smoked Brisket and it was not at all I was expecting. It was so much better. Pie was filled with brisket and potato with just the right amount of bbq sauce. Can't wait to try other flavors. Might just have to go back later.

We got the smoked brisket pie at $15 and the lamb sausage roll at $8. Both were savory and had good flavors. The pastry was flaky and crispy. The smoked brisket has a bbq sauce inside with a layer of potato. The lamb one has a strong gamey taste, don't get it if you can't handle that taste. Quick pick up if you want something savory and filling.

Grabbed a couple different pies this past weekend at the Lei of Aloha Festival on Mare Island. Service was fast and more than sufficient. Got the homestyle chicken and smoked brisket. I preferred the latter, but both items were yummy! The homestyle chicken was reminiscent of a handheld chicken pot pie, but with the essence of curry. The smoked brisket had thick layers of ingredients inside, like perfectly cooked potatoes, and a generous amount of bbq sauce. Both pies came in a crispy, buttery, flaky crust. They were definitely satisfying.

Highly recommend. Noticed this place back in late 2023 before it went viral and was always curious to see what they served. Driving by back then, they never looked open so I thought maybe that was their commercial kitchen to prep for food/vendor events. After finally seeing them on social media, I decided to give them a try. We were headed to a family gathering and thought it would be cool to bring Bula Pies to share. I will admit I was surprised by the prices, it was more than expected. I originally planned to buy a dozen, but quickly decided on half a dozen. Hehe! Needless to say, the pies were a hit! It was fun sharing. I cut them up so everyone can sample each flavor. I recommend the smoked brisket, beef stew, and mince & cheese. There was a seasonal pie during Christmas. I can't remember the name but that one was my favorite. You can enjoy the pies as a stand-alone meal. You can even take them home and add veggies or a salad on the side. The pies are also available frozen to purchase and bake at home. This small business is worth patronizing. Definitely go and show your support!

My friend and I stopped here on December 28th after we had seen multiple tick tock videos about this fabulous little food place.. It is located in a little strip of stores and make sure to look at the signs I almost walked into the wrong place. So the space itself is quite intimate you have some seating inside by the window and then outside as well probably a total of 12ish people in all can be in those two spaces. Our experience was really nice. The individual behind the register greeted us with a seasonal greeting and then asked us if we had any questions about the menu. My friend had already decided what he wanted based on the tick tock videos and I was all for the lamb pie that they had. He chose the beef stew and barbecue pies. We also got the banana pudding and the very swirl pudding. Overall our favorite was definitely the lamb pie it had just an amazing assortment of flavors and the lamb did not have any gaminess at all. The other two pies were also delicious and for those for me personally they were enhanced by using their chili sauce that they had in the store. I really appreciated the size of each pie definitely a meal. The pudding themselves we liked the banana pudding but the very swirl definitely had more of a bite to it when you bit into the actual berries. The tartness mixed with the sweetness really enhanced the entire thing. Definitely would like to go back and try the rest of the pies they have.

I have been seeing this place online and I was finally able to stop by! Damn this place is good! I love the music playing outside when you walk up. When I walked in the woman at the front counter was super nice and welcoming. I got the smoke brisket, mince meat/cheese, and a pineapple pie. They were all delicious but the smoked brisket was my favorite. I love that they have frozen pies that you can bake at home. I will definitely be coming back!

Bula Pies Fiji is such a hidden gem! I tried their Smoked Brisket and Beef Stew pies recently, and both were incredibly filling and packed with flavor! They were not lying when they said the pies are packed with flavor! They are hearty, rich, and perfectly seasoned. It felt like a homemade meal in a flaky pie. I also got to try their Mince and Cheese pie at a music festival, and it was just as delicious. The pies are comforting, savory, and full of that homemade goodness you cannot fake. They even have dessert pies which I'll have to try next time! Each pie has that golden, flaky crust and warm, flavorful filling that makes every bite sooooo satisfying. You can really taste the care that goes into their food. Definitely worth a visit! Parking may be tough but it's worth it, I promise it. They also offer frozen pies that are ready to bake, and an option to ship bulk to your home! I'm definitely thinking about it for the upcoming holiday season! Service: Amazing. You'll feel right at home as soon as you enter.

I wanted to love this place way more than we did, we love supporting local mom and pop businesses but gotta be honest at the same time. 2 groups arrived well after us, ordered significantly after us, got their food way before us, I'm talking like 30 minutes before us so much so they were able to eat, pay and leave before us. That time management needs major work and seems like they could use more hands to help in the back, maybe time to look into hiring an extra line cook or 2. Trying to be understanding because we did feel bad since it's one dude cooking on a grill that looks like it's sized to serve 3 people in a whole restaurant that's no bigger than my living room. It's cramped af in there be prepared if you come with more than 3 people to cram like sardines whenever you possibly can. Gotta work on the time management and maybe time for location expansion because honestly the bathroom had more eating space than our table which was crazy. Food came out extremely rushed, could tell by looking at the omelets, uncooked unblended whites and unmelted cheese (huge turn off). The thin crispy pancakes that got the hype were more burnt than golden brown, had that burnt griddle taste. Chicken apple sausage was burnt in the middle, undercooked on the edges, again probably rushed single person trying to pump out dine in orders on top of door dash orders.

The service is consistently excellent, especially from my favorite waitress, the lovely Linda. She is upbeat, welcoming, attentive, and always makes you feel right at home. Best of all, she keeps that coffee cup FULL--it never runs dry! Her warm, friendly service makes every visit feel personal and appreciated. Now, let's talk about the food. Joy of Eating serves some of the BEST country potatoes in town. I've tried plenty of breakfast spots throughout Vallejo, and these potatoes stand out: hot, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. The omelets are beautifully prepared, the pancakes are delicious, and the coffee is always fresh and enjoyable. On my latest visit, I customized the Garden Omelet, which comes with spinach, tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms. I added turkey sausage and cheddar cheese, and the combination was excellent. I paired it with those incredible country potatoes and the homemade toast and that toast is absolutely OFF THE CHAIN! Add a little mixed berry jelly, and you have a breakfast worth coming back for. The atmosphere is peaceful, comfortable, and wonderfully down-home. It's the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy a full cup of coffee, savor a hearty meal, and start your day on the right note. I usually visit two or three times a month, primarily for breakfast. I've heard great things about their sandwiches and lunch selections, but breakfast keeps pulling me back. Whether you live in Vallejo or are visiting the area, Joy of Eating is a fantastic choice for a classic, satisfying breakfast with genuinely friendly service. I highly recommend it.
