Imagine lean, tender short ribs simmered in a clear broth, served with clear noodles. No need to spruce it up, as it is already flavored perfectly. I would say, it's the closest thing to homemade, without being homemade. The only downside is if you order on Door Dash, they don't tell you that the restaurant closes from 4pm to 4:30pm. The wings were fried to perfection where the outside was crispy but the inside was so juicy and tender. But I didn't care for the glaze (which I believe is their "garlic soy glaze"), because it had a strong mustard flavor, which I totally didn't expect from the name. I was really expecting a savory and garlicky soy sauce flavor that would be balanced with a hint of sweetness. So the mustard flavor really took me by surprise and I wasn't a fan - If I had known they used mustard in that glaze, I wouldn't have ordered it. Service was nice and quite fast. We ordered 4 items (kalbi, bulgogi, japchae and garlic chicken), totaling to more than $100 (but we weren't super surprised because Korean cuisine tends to be pricey). All four items came out to be lacking in sooooooo much flavor. The chicken was the best thing of the 4 but it still could've been better. I'm glad they included banchan but again, flavor was not there. I'm hoping this is a one-off as we would really like for this establishment to succeed. I've never tried yangnyeon it's a unique flavor kind of reminds me of ketchup, sweet & sour, it's tangy too, and I went for the med spicy. Von's didn't see my online order that I made at 4pm. It said it was supposed to be ready by 4:20 and we got there at 4:21. I told the guy at the counter I ordered online for Jen and he told me it wasn't ready yet. I stood here waiting for like 5 min then the cook in Spanish asked the waitress what I was waiting for so she asks me and I was like I ordered online for Jen and they just saw the order. I waited another 20 minutes for my order and they gave me a box of chicken that had been ready since I came in (which was weird they got that order but nothing else) along with the freshly cooked jap chae and mandoo so the chicken was already cold. Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was very quiet - maybe only two other families inside. We were seated immediately and placed our order within the first five minutes of arrival. Potato and cheese corn dog: 5/5 - it was extra cheesy and slightly sweet. Garlic wings: 2.5:5 - standard fried chicken with cold garlic paste on it. It also had sweet notes. Personally, it was not for me. Classic fried chicken (mild): 4/5 - the flavor on these were our favorite. Not spicy at all, but good chili flavor. Honey butter fries 2/5 - not for me. They wanted to be sweet, but tasted artificial (like no real honey, but a sugar honey substitute). Overall, I would give Von's a 3.5/5. Vons has changed a lot since they first opened. They've completely updated their menu to include more options other than just KFC (korean fried chicken). You can get your typical BBQ meats- bulgogi, spicy pork, etc in addition to a variety of tofu soups, bibimbap and drum roll pleaaaase - GALBI JIM!! I haven't been here since they've opened so I was shocked to see the updated menu. Galbi jim is meant to be shared by at least 3 people, so it will run you a hefty price tag for the one dish however it's a lot cheaper than Daeho. Not sure how it compares though, since I didn't try it during this visit but it's on my list! You can't come here and not get the chicken so get the chicken we did! If you're looking for your typical garlic soy glaze, get option B which is the crispy fried chicken. You can have your choice of mild or spicy, and choice of half or full size order. The # of pieces you get will differ based upon the chicken type you want - boneless, wings, drums or combo. I think if you opt for spicy, they ask you how spicy, but medium had a good level of heat for me. A half order is good enough for 2 to share plus another dish or sides. The crispy was sooo crunchy, glazed evenly, and the perfect balance of sweet, savory and spicy!! The wings were fat and juicy too, and freshly fried. Comes with a side of pickled daikon radish! KFC does not come with banchan so if you want the side dishes, you'll need to order something else. We opted for bibimbap to get our daily serving of veggies. If you want it in a hot stone pot for the crispy rice bottom, it's an upcharge. That's annoying and I hate pointless upcharges so I chose to get the beef bibimbap as is. They give you a bottle of gochujang sauce to mix into your bibimbap which is a little sweet, a little spicy, so mix and taste to your liking. They brought our dish out with the beef missing so had to send it back. We were the only customers dining in so the cook threw a handful of beef right on top and it was fine. I love french fries but their fries are not it. They serve steak cut fries which in the french fry food chain sits at the bottom with crinkles. I said what I said. I chose the cheddar fries and the seasoning on this is just okay. It's sweet and salty but could be more cheesy. The fries are not tossed well in this and most of the powder just sits on top. Unless you just desperately need some fries, I'd skip. Banchan selection was good, had a decent mix of options. Not sure if they refill cause we didn't ask but I feel like they would. All the staff working there were sooooooo nice and friendly and super personable. Parking in the Safeway plaza sucks, but it is plentiful. You might just have a little walk. We were the only diners so that may contribute to why the service and food was quick to come out, but I would expect longer waits during a busier time especially since chicken can take some time to fry. read more

This place has so much more to offer, and I think the chicken thing will hold some people back. This place has great banchan (fermented veggies that are served with your dinner). This is excellent Korean food, and again, excellent service. The chicken had honey which was not described on the menu. They took it back no questions, and I tipped an extra half the price of the dish. I am coming back to explore the menu which includes Raman and other tasty things with a western spin. I hope this place kills it in Vallejo. My advice to prospective customers. Start on a couple of small dishes. The inside is very spacious and simplistic. I would say that the atmosphere is very appealing. They play a lot of songs and tv while you're eating which is nice for those who like to watch things while eating. I had tried the honey butter chicken, chicken ramen, and Korean corndog(mozzerella). I was really disappointed by the size of the korean corndog. Most places would have corndogs almost twice the size of what I received. It tasted ok, but for $6 I would go somewhere else for a korean corn dog. The honey butter chicken was good but again the pricing is WAY too high for what you get. Just for a half you pay $15 :0 I also tried the ramen and was really sad with how it came out :( It was salty and there was barely any real flavor to it. I believe most of the cooking efforts are fixated towards their chicken wings as that's what they are most well known for. The service was decent, they brought the food out and that was basically it. Almost no check-ins throughout the meal until the check. The food also took around 20-30 minutes to come out, which was a bit long considering there was almost nobody else there. I really hope that in the future the service and the flavors can improve. It's not located in the best area of Vallejo/Benicia either so some might be hesitant to visit. Everytime I want (Korean) fried chicken I always go to Vons! I love the crispy fried chicken with the soy sauce glaze, the glaze isn't thick and it's not a thick coating like how you would find it on wings like wingstop or Firewings or the orange chicken from Panda Express lol. It's light enough to where the chicken is still crispy and gives it flavor. I also love the Honey Butter flavor, it's more of a dry rub coating than it is a glaze! Honey butter is a nice sweet and salty combination. The chicken comes with a side of pickled radish and if you're not familiar with pickled radish you should definitely try it with the chicken! I've also tried the kimchi soup, kimchi pancake, steamed mandu (so bomb with the dipping sauce, it has a beef filling) as well as the japchae. All so good!
