Aisles and aisles of bins teem with everything from candy, chocolate, chips, cookies and flours of every kind to tea, dried fruit, baking accoutrements, freshly ground nut butters, and grains. And that's barely even the beginning of what Bulk Barn has to offer! On a recent visit I bought my daughter two unicorn cookie cutters and some Flight Of The Unicorn Twinkle Sprinkle Mix. The joy brought by $5 worth of sprinkles for a little kid is pretty hard to describe with words. If I lived near Bulk Barn, I'd be here on the regular to keep the best stocked pantry around.

It is drastically lacking around Toronto in general. My serious concerns with the hand sensory door opener, is with the time lapse of the door opening. As my friend was entering Epicure in his electric wheelchair, the door began closing on him as he was only halfway into Epicure. I quickly noticed the door closing on him and rushed to the door to swipe my hand on the sensor to keep the door open until he fully entered. Very shortly after, a senior woman with a walker began entering, and the exact same thing happened to her. It jolted her and she looked unstable from the door closing on her and her walker. It is clearly obvious that the timing on the sensory door opening needs to be adjusted to allow more time for customers with special needs, to be able to enter Epicure "safely" and with dignity. I am respectfully voicing my concerns today, because of the manner in which the owner addressed my concerns above. I spoke with the owner, who identified herself as such, then and there, about the above incidents. Her immediate response to me was, " Well, I don't know how to fix it ". I responded, " Can you please contact the company who installed the hand sensory opener ? " The owner responded, " Oh they are long gone, so just tell your friend to hold the door open as he enters ". I thought to myself, " He is in an electric wheelchair ! Whats wrong with her response ?? There were zero apologies, zero smiles from her, zero greetings. I was not rude to her in addressing the situation. It was very obvious by the look on the owner's face, that she was annoyed by my safety concerns for all customers with special needs, entering Epicure. I feel that, being the owner of Epicure, her first and foremost response, should have been true concern for the safety of her customers. I unfortunately detected zero concern whatsoever. Wow ! Is this how customers should be treated ?? Not in my world. I foresee the possibility of a tragic injury happening because of the lack of concern by the owner of Epicure. Is this what a successful business should reflect ? Profits over safety for its customers ? I personally like Epicure, the neighbourhood go to establishment, but I now wonder whether my choice of a decent neighbourhood establishment has been totally altered by the owner's total disregard for safety concerns and her customer base. I would very much appreciate hearing from other Epicure customers on how they feel about the above situation. Again, I very much like going to Epicure. Thank you.

However, this review is SPECIFICALLY geared towards an elusive item that they recently introduced: PAPA CRISPY CHICKEN. My family tried for 2 weeks to nab one of these birds but it kept evading us. I think they don't have that many fryers and because the birds are fried whole, they can only stick so many chickens into each one at a time. Also, one of the ladies told my mom that they only stick like 5-10 chickens into the fryer(s) in each "session". My mom called in, was told to rush over in 5 min and by the time she arrived, they told her all the chickens were gone and she'd have to wait til 12:30pm (it was 11:20-ish when she arrived). So on to the taste. The chicken is very different from say southern fried chicken like Popeyes. The chicken has very obviously been seasoned aggressively. If you're a garlic lover you will absolutely love this chicken (I happen to love garlic haha). The garlic flavour permeates throughout the meat. I think they brined the chicken and then slathered garlic paste all over it as a marinade overnight before frying. They provide 2 dry spice dips to go w/ each chicken in their respective box. One is a spicy salt and the other one is a dry chilli rub seasoning. The chicken doesn't need the dips at all as there is MORE than enough flavour. To be honest, I do prefer the flavour and crispiness of southern fried chicken more but the breast meat on this Papa Crispy Chicken was way better. The meat was more moist (most likely because the chickens were smaller than usual commercial chickens). Every so often on Tuesdays, instead of ordering my couple, tuesday Popeyes 2 pc specials, I'll crush one of these birds by myself.
