I rarely come to Summit without stopping in for a beer with my girlfriend. We happened to be in the area the other day as they were just opening so we stopped in and grabbed a couple beers and ate some complementary peanuts. This is one of my favorite breweries to kick back and relax. I love coming here when they have bands playing but we were here too early so we didn't get to enjoy that on said day. We ordered: Me - Gourd N Gecko (5 stars) GF- Mango Contango (5 Stars) My gf wanted the Blackberry Bonus but the keg was empty and the worker was going to change it but I said don't worry about it right now. Service was great and everyone was very nice, just bad beer (in my opinion). We did two full flights and wondered if maybe the tap pipes hadn't been cleaned properly because they all had a very strange after taste. read more

Neat Little place on Springfield Avenue in Summit. Decent selection of beer and very knowledgeable employee behind the bar serving . Happened to walk in on a Sunday afternoon and was lucky enough to hear a live band. Im taking away a star for any breweries that allows kids occupying the brewery like it's Chuck E. Cheese. Great vibe here with tons of nice people and great live music. Owners are super nice and involved. Beers are fantastic and the best in the area in my opinion. They have a good variety of styles whether you are looking for a dark beer or something on the lighter side. They also have a delicious fruited sour. And there are flavored seltzers for those who don't drink beer or are gluten-free. Nice outdoor back patio when the weather is good. You can also rent out the taproom and patio for private events. Brought my wife here after a wonderful lunch to try a new brewery, and new it is! Drink: their beer flight she ordered included (from closest to farthest on the picture) a bitters, IPA, scotch ale, and stout. Her personal favorite was the scotch ale which surprised me because she is a fan of IPAs. Service: the gentleman who serves us was both polite and engaging. Also gave me advice on food places in the area for the next time I was around. Aesthetic: clean brewery atmosphere. Bull n Bear is one of the newest breweries in NJ. They are located in downtown Summit New Jersey, which is a very very nice upscale town with a beautiful downtown area. It definitely fits. I was initially a little cautious about going there because the town might be a little bit outside of my price range, but the crowd at the brewery was jovial and welcoming. They were the 119th brewery that I had visited in New Jersey alone. It's a small little space, but they have some outside seating in the back. The decor itself wasn't the nicest of all the breweries I've visited in New Jersey, but it was comfortable. You might need to get a reservation if you go on a Saturday afternoon or early evening. It's been a popular spot. The reason I gave them five stars is because the beers were all very good even though it is a new brewery. You could tell that the Brewer has done it for a while before opening. The beers all had a rich, deep, complex flavor. read more

Small storefront microbrewery making ales, ipas & many German style lagers on their 10 barrel system. I was super happy to find Altbier ale, Dortmunder lager and a Munich black lager on tap. About eight tables and standing room at the bar, all in the same room where all the magic in the mash tun happens lol. I thought the beers were excellent, nice clean flavors, no off notes at all, a real treat to find lagers. Not an IPA person, can't report on any of those. Bring food! My only gripes are that they post absolutely no prices, and the canned Czech pilsner was more like an ipa unfortunately. Flights are $12, pints are $8 and 4 packs to go are $20, those are Summit prices I guess :/ kinda high. Beer garden in good weather. I do not understand this place. At all. We've tried to come multiple times and it's been a weird experience each and every time. Attempt 1 - We came during covid shortly after open. I'm a gluten free person and unfortunately there were no options at that point for me - not their fault, that one is on me. What WAS weird was that they wouldn't let me sip a bottle of soda while my friends were drinking the beers they had. So I just sat there with nothing. Odd but ok. Attempt 2 - Came back when they announced that they had a gluten free seltzer. Got a pint and immediately dumped it because it smelled like rotting meat. Bartender said that's just how seltzer smells. As someone who drinks a lot of seltzer, just no. Attempt 3 - I must be a glutton for punishment. Came in on a night when there was a band playing. Fun crowd, if way overcrowded. Bartender did a good job keeping up with way too many customers until a couple that I guess are the owners decided to get involved and proceeded to just be in the way. Attempt 4 - Came back to try them again after they'd been shut down by the health department or something in the hopes that things would be better. Bartender was rude and seemed to resent being there. Finally got to actually drink a seltzer which was fine. Friends said that the IPA tasted like it must have been sitting on tap since before they were shut down. Attempt 5 - Seltzer was good enough we came on a Friday night to try again. No notice on facebook, instagram, or their website, but on arrival we were sent away for a private event. On a Friday night you're closing for a private event? And didn't think you should tell anyone? Owners managed to open a business in Summit so I guess they're smarter than I am, but I won't be giving them another try. I really try not to be this person but the experience was so weird that I had to make an account specifically to share it. I guess the owners are more interested in prancing around as the 'talk of the town' than they are in running a successful business. read more

Awesome brewery, and totally wheelchair accessible! Great selection of beers and friendly service. We really enjoy how kid and dog friendly it is- makes the people watching so fun. Also very cool that they have trivia questions on one tv, it really keeps conversation lively. Can't wait to come back here to sit outside once it's warmer out. read more

After Party group arrived shortly after me but the vibe was snobby and the bartenders weren't helpful. No advice or details about the beer. Just served and you were on your way. Great place! Nice rotating variety of beer made in house. From your IPA to interesting beer that you want to sit back and enjoy like a fine scotch. Tried this place with my wife and baby and dog the other day. All the beers we had were really good. The Wit and NE IPA is what we had. The back door patio was nice to sit with the dog. The gentlemen tending bar was a little rough around the edges, felt as if he was doing me a favor by letting us in with a baby and dog. Went here for the first time on Friday night. Had delicious beer and a nice chat with the owner. This place is so cool and easy-going. You can bring food and eat outside while you sip your beer. Similarly you can fill up your growler and take to neighboring restaurants that are BYOB. Live music was a plus! The sound was great outside in the back. I have been to 33 breweries in NJ and this was by far the worst place I have been to. I had a party of 8 and we sat outside. It was 96* (heatwave) and no one else was outside. We also setup up our own table chairs since they were stacked on top of each other. We were told 2 hours into our time there that "this is your last call. What else do you want?" 3 people had a fresh beer in front of them and 2 a flight. We asked oh are you closing? Rob replied no but you need to leave before the dinner rush at 5pm because we will need this spot. We replied but we're continuing to buy beer and it's dead. We aren't just sitting here and we are celebrating someone's birthday. Rob said I don't make the rules, Will does, so you need to go. so what do you want? When we didn't have the menus out in our phones he huffed and rolled his eyes at us. He walked away before we could answer. After being treated that way the 3 of us who were ready for our third round decided not to order. We went in and asked for the managers number and name. Rob said it's Will but he won't answer and maybe you can get him on Monday or Tuesday. The other bartender said we aren't even opened then. We got the check and the other bartender was embarrassed for his colleagues attitude and comped our bill. We were so upset with how we were treated. Not sure why we would be kicked out since we were paying customers and there was no line to get in. We also were considerate and sat outside, in a heatwave, so we wouldn't take up tables inside where a few were. Was race an issue for Rob? We left and went to twin elephant which is right down the road. We stayed for 4 hours there and spent $120. Thank you to twin elephant for saving the night! They were relaxed and did not kick us out. They deserved our money. I recommend going there if you want to have a relaxed time with friends. If you are looking for rude service then bull n bear is for you. I would never go back to bull n bear because of Rob's attitude. And I will be sure to spread the word. Hopefully Will reads this and changes his policy. We drove by bull n bear at 9pm and it was dead. Maybe others were kicked out too? Go elsewhere! read more
