This restaurant is in the lobby area of the Duniway hotel. They have a small dining space, alongside a huge bar in the front. The space beautiful modern interiors and furnishing, with gorgeous bubble like glass lamps in the ceiling. We came to the restaurant multiple days to grab our breakfast using the hotel vouchers. We got a table each time without waiting too long. The menu had good breakfast options including hash, omelettes, pancakes and biscuits. They had hot drinks, juices and cocktails available too. I liked the toast, over easy eggs and omelettes that I got to try. The orange juice was good as well. All the staff members and servers we interacted with were friendly. Tea, eggs, breakfast meat etc. All the staff are friendly and attentive. They have kids menu and activity paper. Not a super big portion but it's definitely enough for breakfast. Was a great choice came with eggs, toast, potato's, bacon and your choice of coffee, server was excellent. Not a lot of people when I came in but definitely worth it. I ordered the flower sour with yuzu flavor was very yummy. My son raved about his mushrooms soup, but his confit chicken was pretty dry. My lamb shank in the other hand was moist and flavorful. One of the nicer hotel restaurants I am aware of, but of course given it is in a hotel, you are paying quite a premium. I dined here for dinner and breakfast, and I would say go for dinner as the breakfast is a bit rip off with laughable portions, so it evens out to a 4 star rating overall. Dinner was definitely busier than breakfast. You get people not staying at the hotel just to try this restaurant, which speaks volumes of the quality comparatively. We went on a Saturday dinner and couldn't get seated immediately - they made a reservation for us 40 min later at 7pm and only then were we able to be accommodated. We got one 3-course menu for $55 (the $5 surcharge coming from our choice to get the crispy skin salmon) with warm spinach dip and almond thyme olive oil cake, which is a better value than ordering each dish a la carte, plus a Moroccan braised lamb shank entree, which is more than enough food for 2 people. I liked the warm spinach dip - very creamy and hearty, paired with nicely baked bread on the side. The salmon is solid, nothing memorable but it was Asian inspired flavors and delicious. The lamb shank has really good meat texture and the couscous added an additional texture to the dish that I enjoyed. The olive oil cake was just the right amount of sweetness. Service was good. Breakfast we ordered the chicken and waffles, 1 buttermilk pancake add chocolate, and the Duniway (dungeness crab omelette with brie). The chicken and waffles were a laughable quantity - 1 small piece of chicken with 1 small piece of sugary waffle. The chicken, I have to give them credit, was really juicy and flavorful, a bit on the saltier side. I wished it was a larger quantity for $22. The Duniway was decent - lots of brie and egg but not much crab. With nothing on the side, $25 is really steep. The buttermilk pancakes are good though - $5 for 1 and you can add toppings for $1 each and I am glad you can do this on the side as opposed to committing to 3 pancakes for $15 in the entrees. Service here is still good as they gave water refills and checked up on us regularly. Drinks-wise the prices are a little high at $18-20 for most cocktails, but the quality is decent. I would skip cocktails here and focus more on dining during dinner time for the most enjoyable experience. I am glad to have experienced both meal services thanks to the Amex FHR and Hilton status food credit and breakfast credits, as I would not give this place a try on first thought due to relatively high prices with respect to neighboring restaurants. read more

While staying at the Duniway in Portland, I decided to have dinner at Mayrose, the hotel's on-site restaurant. The space is modern and stylish, and the vibe is relaxed. I ordered the Chicken Breast Confit, which came with citrus-thyme sweet potato mash, chicken jus, and frisée. The dish had potential, but unfortunately, the flavors and textures didn't quite come together. The chicken was served with the jus poured directly over it, which left the skin soggy rather than crisp which was something I was really looking forward to in a confit preparation. The jus itself was fine, but didn't bring much complexity. The sweet potato mash was smooth but fairly basic, and the frisée felt like an afterthought, almost more of a garnish than a flavorful, integrated part of the dish. While the service was warm and the convenience of dining in was appreciated, the overall experience didn't feel worth the price point. For the quality and creativity of the dish, I expected a bit more. Not a bad meal, but not something I'd go out of my way for. read more

To start the restaurant was very nice and elegant. The food was expertly prepared. Salmon was perfectly cooked. It was an experience. The desert which I don't often eat, was amazing. Very creamy and rich, without dairy. All of the team members were very professional. Just amazing to have servers with great personalities. Also, some nice little touches. We had the salmon, artichoke Paella, and the kids had the chicken fingers with fries. Salmon was excellent - salmon skin was crispy and the dish came with a nice ginger vinaigrette dressing for the greens and quinoa. Wife had the artichoke paella and enjoyed it. My train was leaving for California at 2:22pm I booked a tour with Around Portland Tours from 8:30am to 12:30pm. I thought I was not going to have time to eat since I was taking the bus to Hawthorne district early. However, I was up around 7am and Mayrose is part of The Duniway. They were open for breakfast so I decided to stop by this beautiful restaurant. It's very fancy and beautiful. Different from my casual experience the night before. It was the morning of my 41st birthday and I was traveling solo. I asked for my food to go, but scarfed everything down. Service was exceptional. Hash did come with salsa. However, I prefer my salsa to be just a little spicier, I am from California and Southeast Asian at that. Eggs were perfectly soft scrambled and hash and veggies were good. It was a nice, clean breakfast before my waterfalls tour. Waiter was awesome and extremely kind and friendly. Paid and off to my solo adventure I went. Orange juice was good. I looked over the shortlist of available restaurants on Christmas Day and Mayrose looked promising. Ambiance was warm and relaxed. Service was prompt and friendly and sincere. I requested no jalopena's and some lettuce added. It came out as requested. Except it also had thinly sliced peppers; I ate around them. They were not listed on the menu. I was expecting a breakfast sandwich but it came out open faced and with a steak knife. So I used the knife to eat it . I ate here a few more times and got the granola with yogurt and berries. I also got a bagel with salmon and cream cheese. Bagel was warm, not hot both otherwise perfect. I also got a juice -1/2 orange 1/2 grapefruit mix- every time. Perfection! Great service! Great food! We've been staying at the Duniway for 2-3x a year for 4 years now because we love it's a great restaurant, bar, and coffee/breakfast without leaving the hotel. I was SO disappointed this last visit. The management or chef has clearly changed. There are no oysters and no charcuterie. The menu is still great but failed on execution at both dinner and breakfast. The full bar is also gone; I asked for 2 different classic cocktails and they were missing ingredients for each. My scallops were the size of nickels and dry/overcooked. My breakfast hash was pretty good but the eggs were way overcooked, missing the key element to a hash....runny yolk. The ambience is just off now. Without a stocked bar, and the old oyster bar being basically a bar back area (holding napkins, silverware, and dirty rags), and no more lovely meats hanging in the cold storage..... all downhill. read more

Mayrose provides that as it is not exactly run by the hotel but you can charge your meals and drinks to the room. The food hits the mark -- well prepared, entices the palate without being too overwhelming but keeping it interesting enough. Stepping through the dining area warms the senses with dimmed lighting throughout the area combined with industrial rustic decor that complements The Duniway's overall aesthetics. Server was great; whomever sat us sucked, he was polite, but wow, there were only two other tables with people and they sat people next to us. That being said, we don't generally mind sitting with others, but the place was empty and we get shoved in the corner with others. Food: We had the burgers; presentation was great, patty ratio to size and contents was great... but well done instead of medium rare. Good flavor. Good fries. But not worth it for $27. Parking: Do not park in their hotel garage unless you don't mind spending $20; you can find Smart Park for about $8. Other staff: It's Portland, so people suck. We asked a host for directions to the restaurant, and he was a passive aggressive d-bag. Overall: I won't turn it down, but I won't reserve another table. The menu was small and odd. The window seating is ok, but only bar tables (raised). Also, watching homeless and mental unstable people is not ideal. read more

Plenty of street parking, however, beware of parking under the trees on SW Taylor St (right across the Duniway hotel entrance) - my car was splattered with bird poop - front to back. WTH! The restaurant is inside the Duniway Portland Hotel. I almost didn't see it. There is a side entrance on SW 6th Ave, but it's not clear. Reservations are recommended. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't too crowded, sat in a booth - with plenty of bar seats. Aimee was our waitress - friendly, helpful with the menu, and recommended some good drinks. For drinks, we had the following: $15 Rosetta - refreshing - my wife enjoyed it $15 The Layover - Quite good on the sweet side and strong. You could taste the Wild Root Marlonberry vodka and the Ancho Ryes Verde chili poblano liquor. $15 Rose 75 - Roku Japanese craft gin - didn't hear a complaint from my buddy who enjoyed it. Starters: Half of the items on the starters menu were not available! It was crazy that I just stopped asking for stuff on that menu and asked Aimee to tell me what was available to order. Ended up trying the following available items from the starters menu: $18 - Steamed Mussels - needed more flavoring $13 - Smoked Salmon toast $9 - Marinated Spiced Olives - quite good. For the main course (large plates), we had the following: $25 - Roasted Trout - my friend clean his plate - must have been good $35 - Skillet Crisp Salmon - This was recommended by Aimee the waitress and didn't disappoint $24 - Garlic Herb Grilled Shrimp - My wife enjoyed it, but I was disappointed there were only 3 shrimp on that plate. Portland is the birthplace of renowned chef James Beard, so it is fitting that its food scene is so diverse. With so many great options, I waited until the very last day to try this restaurant. I ordered the Mayrose Hash, which contained pulled pork, diced potatoes, pickled red onions, shaved jalapeno, and cilantro, topped with two fried eggs. Honestly, maybe the breakfast joints in Phoenix, AZ, spoiled my experience with breakfast hashes. The pulled pork was on the tougher side, and the entire hash was drier and saltier than my preference. The restaurant decor was really nice, though. The waiter gave me the check within a few bites of receiving my dish, so it felt a bit rushed, even though the dining room was only 10% full. This is the hotel restaurant for the Duniway Portland hotel by Hilton. We booked our hotel through American Express, and I have status with Hilton, so we received daily food and beverage credits to use here. The vibe is pretty cool, definitely modern and definitely representative of Portland. I found the cocktail menu to be surprisingly inspired for a hotel bar. The bartender mis-poured my Trailblazer cocktail the first time, so I got to try it twice and loved it. I also enjoyed the Hummingbird, a sort of tequila twist on a Paper Plane. We had the chocolate tart for dessert one night, and it was divine. A couple other guests ended up ordering it after they saw ours. We tried to get the seasonal Sorbet a different night, but they had run out. I personally don't think I would have chosen to eat at the restaurant for breakfast had we not had free credits. The food was fine, but not amazing, and the prices are a bit high. Basically what you expect for a hotel breakfast. They also were out of waffles and the blueberry dish the entire holiday weekend. A note on service - they really need to throw more bodies, more training, or both, at the restaurant and bar. Perhaps they were busier over the long weekend than normal, but nothing ran smoothly and guests all noticed and commented. During breakfast, multiple tables would routinely sit open for stretches of time while a queue of new guests formed waiting. Staff were doing anything besides seating guests or clearing tables. Our last morning, they even had the audacity to say "we're a bit full right now, so it'll be about 15 minutes" to guests in line, while half the tables sat empty. I could believe it was about not overburdening the kitchen, except the kitchen was still filling to-go orders just fine, and the bursts of seating guests and taking orders that they did do would only be worse for the kitchen. At the bar, there was one or occasionally two bartenders during the busiest hours. This would be fine for a bartender used to working in hectic environments and making multiple drinks while taking the next set of orders. These bartenders would have struggled to keep pace at a quiet artisanal cocktail lounge. There also seemed to be very little done in the way of "speed bottles" to speed up mixing, which only hurt the performance. On the one hand, cool for actually mixing the drink live. On the other, I waited half an hour to get the drink. read more

While I had mixed results on the Duniway Hotel I had a great experience at Mayrose which is a restaurant connected to the hotel. Me and some coworkers came here for dinner on a recent trip. All of us were worn out from traveling and work so being able to just come downstairs worked out absolutely perfect. Once seated we were greeted and attended to from our amazing waiter and I wish I would've gotten his name but he was great!! For appetizers we had the warm olives and jumbo shrimp cocktail which both were delicious. The shrimp tater like they were literally right out of the water. For dinner I had the crispy skin salmon with I believe a corn purée and cous cous. I could be wrong but whatever it was the whole dish was absolutely delicious.
