Fun!! We ended our night after listening to Tower of Power and the Oregon Symphony . What a great combo. We walked right next door to grab an after hour drink and appetizer. The hostess was a bit overwhelmed, but he quickly adjusted to the crowd and everyone was very nice. He sat us down and hand us a menu. Our server was quick to bring water, take our drink order and appetizer. It was packed. We ordered the Meat and Cheese platter along with a Porter and a Martini Espresso. Everything was simply delicious after a great concert. Recommend for Spirits after a musical event. Tower of Power band actually came through the bar. We'll definitely come back!! read more

I was a guest at the hotel and popped in for breakfast and cocktails, so no dinner review. The bartender was friendly and the cocktails were good, and they have a decent selection of call options, which I like as I am always on the lookout for whiskeys I have not tried. Breakfast was also good, they are fast enough when you let them know you are in a rush. I think I had the same waitress for both times, a month apart, and she was nice and attentive, giving me a warm up for my coffee unprompted. read more

We were going to an event at the Schnitz and decided to come in here for dinner first. Great decision! We were on the restaurant side as we weren't drinking. The decor is modern and classy. Casual or formal fits here. We started with the smoked salmon dip. The chips are homemade and really tasty. The dip was addicting. Wasn't sure at first, but we all really liked it. Our friends had the salmon and smoked chicken - both loved their meals. My wife ordered their house pasta. It is slightly spicy with lamb meatballs. Amazing! Really good! I decided to try their burger. OMG! This is literally a perfect burger. I added bacon, which was great. (I'm not sure it was needed, but it was good.) High-quality meat, great cheese, great sauce, and I think homemade pickles. Just a phenomenal burger! We'll come back as everything was good- but I can't wait to get another burger here! read more

The food, service and ambience does not get better than this tavern adjacent to the Heathman hotel. Our breakfast was beyond the pale delicious. The salmon hash with an egg on top was wonderful. But even better was the yogurt made on the premises with a little bit of honey, and mango purée homemade granola (so much better than my own) and freshly cut, peaches and nectarines. 50 minutes for dinner to show up. 50. French fries were cold. Request to replace non-GF fries with salad was disregarded. I appreciate that they were probably slammed due to the show at the Schnitz, but they're not used to that by now? Shrimp bisque was delightful, as was the beet salad. My husband's beef was perfectly cooked. The hamburger was cool. Once the fries arrived they were piping hot and tasty. Still, the menu is limited, the prices high, and the pace slow. 1 Star is a gift. Zero is more deserving. Valentine's Evening dinner, they had a set menu for a 4 course meal at a serious price ($105 per person). How hard can that be to plan and prepare for? We were there for 3 hours, 3! And not by our choice. We had to finally ask for our dessert to-go. People around us with show tickets had to leave mid-meal. Very, very poorly planned evening by management. Restaurant was booked to the gills but clearly not enough staff or kitchen prep scheduled/hired. Love the Heathman Hotel, and will stay there again, just will not eat at the adjoining restaurant again. read more

I haven't been here since Boulot was at the helm. Heathman hotel restaurant and bar was my first fine dining experience in PDX and it was excellent. Made a trip in recently for brunch and though the food was superb, overall service was weird. My salmon hash was the best I've had, anywhere! Really beautiful flavors. Oh and beautiful space, excellent coffee, all around a really fantastic place. Service was off tho, seemed to be only one gal working and she did everything including bussing tables, greeting, takeout, etc. Even as more staff arrived, no one came by to help her.. That said, our server tried her best and was great. Heathman arguably launched me into the wanna-be foodie I am today, me and the homies have a mission to support all that is great about this town.. Old school especially and we are definitely rooting for this place. read more

Cutest date night spot! This is a newer restaurant and everything on the menu sounds great! Ive tried many things on the menu and I've had breakfast and dinner here and it did not disappoint. I've tried the salmon hash, the French toast and the breakfast sandwich. All so good! The dinner menu is definitely upscale. But i stepped out of my comfort zone and i was so glad i did. My favorites had to be the salmon appetizer, the chicken, steak and the salad! Everything tastes so fresh. The presentation is also 10/10. From the meals to the dessert and even the drinks. So sad to think about how amazing the Heathman was in the past and how they're obviously struggling today. The three of us booked the holiday Heathman tea for $65 per person. To me that price is fine, I know it takes extra time to put together mini sandwiches and teas and create a festive atmosphere. The problem came at the end when I handed her my credit card and she handed me back a receipt that had not only a charge for using a credit card, but a $50 auto gratuity. The server said this extra 24% mandatory gratuity was mentioned in the Open Table reservation system, which it was not. (Yes we went back and checked it). The bill ended up being $265 for three people. The service level didn't approach 24%. I can't even imagine the decadent feast that the three of us could've gotten at Zupan's or new seasons for $265. There are beautiful pastry shops in Portland with plenty of mini pies, mini scones, mini sandwiches... And you can get Steven Smith tea anywhere. I know which option we're going to choose next time, and it won't be the Heathman. Feeling disrespected by the Heathman. They've lost this longtime customer for life. read more

Mediocre (at best), but at least it was expensive. I figured I'd take my friend to one of the old-school nice Portland hotel restaurants for a little holiday treat assuming the hotel would be really Chrismassey and we could check it out before having a good meal at a restaurant that I remember as being really good back in the day (a winter wonderland the hotel was not, but that's not the restaurant's issue). The friendly hostess seated us and gave us one dinner menu, one happy hour menu and no wine list (even though she asked if we were having wine and I said we were). An odd start, but certainly no biggie. I asked the waitress for another menu and wine list and as she handed it to me she asked if we were ready to order which we weren't because of the whole lack of menu situation. Still, no biggie. I started with y he crab bisque, which seemed to be relatively crab-free while chock full of what seemed like completely uncooked crunchy pieces of rice that added no flavor. There were big chunks of onion though. I pretended they were large bits of crab meat and that made it way more fun. The Steak Frites were no better. The steak was underwhelming and smothered in a boring sauce. The frites were fine but far from transcendent. They came with a sauce that looked like aioli but tasted like mustard. Aioli would have made a lot more sense. My companion liked her burger, but I don't think she's picky and, unlike me, doesn't remember the Heathman of old, which set the bar much, much higher. Service was fine. Pretty disappointing when a place becomes a shadow of what it once was. At least the door men don't have to wear those silly costumes anymore. read more

The Tavern is a cool spot. So nice that it's attached to the Heathman. I didn't have a drink as I did NOT need anything else lol but my husband got an old fashioned and I did have a sip and it was delicious. We had some cauliflower dish with tofu sauce for a snack and fries. Both were very good. The bar itself is pretty modern and new. Very good service. It's a higher end clientele they appeal to but it is NOT a snobby bar. It's definitely upscale but I felt very comfortable there and even chatted up a single woman who was there for a cocktail after David Sedaris (Ike my husband and I were,) and she told me how she spends every Christmas season with her mom and they attend the Heathman Christmas Tea. So I got some Portland history too. I would definitely go back because the bar staff know their drinks and how to make excellent cocktails. And they were very nice too. read more

Stopped in for Mercury's Summer of Slushies (I recommend skipping the slush here- other delicious cocktails await) before a show. Angelica was absolutely amazing, so kind, and hard at work while the bar started to fill in. Between making cocktails for guests in their suites and entertaining her patrons at the bar, she's a wizard, spreading her magic. Service superb! With only 20 mins until the show, bread du jour came out fast and would have to be my FAVORITE. WOW! Who knew bread and butter would steal the show? I'm coming back to try their main dishes, if the bread came out like Michelin star, pffft. I wanted a pretty drink and Angelica recommended the Citrus Garden. I asked if it came with a flower and to my surprise- the bar had flowers!! Naturally I asked for them, because I like a gorgeous cocktail in hand. Thanks for making my night and birthday month SPESH. To your manager, Angelica, give her a raise, second- (bar manager) start adding flowers to "Citrus Garden." Pleaseeeee. read more

We went last night on Christmas--the food was mediocre as others have already commented on. I get that Christmas is a tough day to be open, and there aren't many options in Portland. I don't think I have ever had a great meal out on Christmas. However, my bigger issue is I ordered a coffee and it came in (a partial) French press. It was missing the very important part where you insert the glass carafe into a container with a handle. Which means it was an incredibly hot (BURNS when you graze it) glass container with absolutely no safe way to pour it. I wrapped my cloth napkin around it and tried to pour it, which had it drizzle out onto my fingers--I am guessing it was about 180+ degrees. I spent the rest of my meal with my hand in my water to try and mitigate the burn and searing pain. So not responsible of a restaurant--I didn't make a fuss as it wasn't the server's fault (she too burned herself trying to move it from her tray to our table). But seriously! You are lucky we didn't have a child at our table. read more

Ordered the crab Benedict, short rib Benedict, and smoked salmon bowl for Easter brunch. It seemed like the crab was just imitation, and the bene came out cold. Short rib Benedict seemed like it came out of the pre marinated bags you buy at the store. Smoked salmon bowl was pretty good. Portion sizes are very small. Service was alright. Waitress seemed inattentive and on her phone. Ambiance was pleasing. read more

Here for brunch. cannot recommend the chicken cordon blue sandwich. Dry, a lot of bread, very little chicken or ham. the coffee was also weak and service was slow. It might be a while before we try it again. The wife and I were sorely disappointed. read more

The waitress highly recommended the risotto, which I found to be a soggy texture and tastes predominantly like smoked ham. It felt uncomfortable to let her know that it wasn't good, but I replaced it with the lobster bisque, which was good, but a bit spicy, with little lobster meat, and a small portion. I was charged for both. I called later to discuss the experience and contest the bill, but the manager never returned my call. I won't return. read more

The Heathman used to be a very nice place to eat lunch or brunch. We had an 11:00 brunch reservation on a Saturday before going to the Keller. The few other customers were also eating there before going to the Keller. The waitress seemed to be a "weekend substitute." We both ordered Crab Benedict. After a while the waitress told us there were no english muffins left...would we like it on toast? On a Saturday AM...apparently there is no attempt from the kitchen to order the proper menu items. OK. When the plates came I almost laughed. There were two tiny toast points with poached egg , a bit of crab and a sauce that looked pale yellow. Then on the other side of the plate a tiny dish of fruit. The fruit was nice as were the eggs, but sauce on the eggs had practically no flavor...it tasted like it came out of a jar and should have had seasoning added. My coffee and her tea were barely lukewarm. No extra bread or...just a mostly white plate staring at us...no attempt to even fill the plate with a lettuce leaf. No ambiance. We were both still hungry after that tiny snack and enquired about desserts or sweet breads...no, nothing. OK. Then when we were ready to pay the waitress said that our bill would be less than normal because she had messed up on the next table's bill and overcharged them. She said that they had told her not to worry about it but for some reason she thought that she could balance out the error by undercharging us. Of course that didn't work and the whole situation felt shoddy. I have no interest in returning to the Heathman. Sad, because it used to be a place where one could have good service, and good food. Our server was really great and everyone was friendly. The ambiance was low key and comfy. The menu is quite limited. Despite the name of the place, the menu was far from "tavern-like".The appetizers are mixed in with the entrees. The polenta sourdough loaf was tasty and a good portion size. I hate mushrooms and most of the entrees have mushrooms as ingredients. I asked our server about the vegetarian pot pie because the description just said root vegetables. So glad I asked because it also had mushrooms. If you have an allergy, you must ask since all ingredients are not listed. Dessert was just two items. We had the flan and was meh. It was in a crust that was hard to cut with a fork. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant unless nothing else was opan. read more

The food these days is boring, and low quality. My 2-star rating is kind. They need to find a chef who can revive and/or reinvent the food that Phillipe, the former chef, delivered here for many years. Until then, it will remain a total waste of money, and I will certainly not return. read more

Came here with on a Tuesday original reservation for 7 people in the restaurant. We were going to have 1 minor with us so I reserved the restaurant side via OpenTable. Two people got sick so I changed the reservation to 5. Lastly, another person cancelled (the minor) so it was now a party of 4. Staff was welcoming and understanding. We asked if we could just sit in the lounge instead of the restaurant side since the minor wasn't with us now, and that was easily accommodated. Place wasn't busy and it looked relaxing, bright and clean. Waiter was new to the tavern, so he wasn't exactly sure about the menu description of the whiskey sour when we asked about it. After getting our water we waited 10 minutes to get our drink order. A few minutes later we put in a food order of cauliflower, chips and dip, Bread and meatballs for us to all share. The drinks took a solid 20 minutes. And after waiting, we were told the whiskey sour in question from their menu couldn't be made because they were out of the ingredients. 1 beer, 1 lemon drop that came with no sugar on the rim, and yet another drink they couldn't make correctly because they were out of the ingredients, and instead of taking a new drink order, just substituted the mixer in that cocktail. We all enjoyed the food, and we were all done within 70 minutes. I'd go there again for the food, but not for drinks. $150 (without tip) for 8 drinks and 4 tapas sized orders. Not horrible because the food was pretty good. Server was polite, but a little aloof, and never bothered to clear dishes from our table. But the drink service....needs a lot of work. Soon. read more

Absolutely divine dishes and fabulous service. First, the crab bisque is absolutely delicious with huge pieces of crab meat!! A must have before the entree! Their scallops are amazingly prepared with a fabulous sauce with bacon & mustard greens. Hubby had the smash burger and loved the taste and wonderful tater tots. Our server, Deonne was very attentive and friendly. He made sure our water glasses were full, which truly impressed me. If you want dessert, try the brown butter bread pudding. Very unique and delicious, not too sweet but very tasty & satisfying. Highly recommend this fabulous restaurant!! read more
