Fried chicken, candied yams, lime beans, turnip greens, fresh hot hush puppies, and ice cold sweet tea. Hands down the best soul food in Dur

Absolutely delicious food. Very friendly staff...caters to EVERYONE. Many of the most popular people in America has eaten at Bullocks and know the family personally. I met Phil Ford and Shirley Caesar there. The food is excellent. The menu is filled with down home soul food that will leave you happy, satisfied, and ready to hit the recliner for an after meal nap. I highly recommend Bullocks.

I've been going to Bullock's for years, so lots of memories there. I recently had a farewell lunch there, family style food. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and we all had a nice time.

Small meal fried catfish Cajun style

If you're looking for a great southern meal that will be appreciated by those that want to experience "home cookin'", you need to try Bullock' BBQ. All your favorites you remember complete with hush puppies and portions to die for. Real catfish cooked to perfection and coleslaw that is light crispy and flavorful. This place is a Durham institution to be savored and enjoyed. The menu is rich with pork, chicken, seafood and more. It's all super fresh. You'll love the drinks too. Not too sweet, not to tart, lemo aid, tea, and sodas. The desert, you have to have the banana pudding! A show stopper to cap off a great meal.

Country style steak, turnip greens, yams, and rice and gravy.

Bullock's is a long time Durham stable! I've been eating here for as long as I can remember. I almost always get the country style steak, rice and gravy, greens and yams. The food was a little salty, but still delicious! The service is always good! Once you become a regular, the amazing staff remembers you!

Haven't been here in decades but I had occasion to do it again today. It was good when I was young, inexperienced and very hungry. Not so much anymore. It's good southern food from the 80s. Nothing has really changed except my tastes. I'm looking for juicier more tender fried chicken than this and barbecue pork that has more texture and flavor than what Bullock's is producing today. Friendly service. Cash only.

    Chicken & BBQ combo.

Good food choices but be ready for a wait!…read more I have been to Wheat twice and tried a variety of the vegetarian dishes. I had the Vegetable Lo Mein, Braised Tofu, Mapo Tofu, Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. The Braised Tofu is not very flavorful, so I would avoid that. The Mapo Tofu is absolutely delicious and has that perfect peppercorn kick. It is spicy, so get a sweet drink on the side if you are not a fan of spice. Vegetable Lo Mein is a large quantity with lots of vegetables. Ask for some sauces on the side because it is bland on its own. On the other hand, the Fried Rice is yummy on its own or with the Mapo Tofu. Spring Rolls are a little oily to my liking but are a good vegetarian appetizer option. I will say that this place is always packed, even on weekdays and sometimes the wait staff forgets about you. It took several rounds to get them to take our order, give the food or even get the check at the end. I will try it out next time at lunch time because maybe it is a little faster. I plan to be back for the Mapo Tofu and Fried Rice

For example, when my friend told him that she wanted to order the beef intestine soup, he straight up said "uh are you sure? I think it's bad, I don't like that dish" which we all thought was a very strange thing to say. A lot of their menu items looked really good and while initially I thought that I would want to come back sometime and try them, the attitude of the waiter was so off putting that I highly doubt I'll ever be back here.

(I love sorbet, but sometimes you want rich ice cream). Besides chocolate mint and Vietnamese coffee, there's an enticing lime sorbet and a rotating seasonal flavor, which in late July was a blackberry crumble that is delicious with little bits of crumble ribboned throughout (I love to chew my ice cream). A single scoop is actually quite generous and only $5. Service is speedy and friendly. The seating is plentiful and it was such a hot day, I opted to stay inside rather than walk around and pretend I was eating gelato in a small Medieval town in Tuscany.

At lunch, I passed the A-frame they had outside and saw fellow conference attendees walk in. "Alright," I said. "I'll check them out later." I came in with one of my new connections and we happily chose our desserts. I chose their seasonal Girl Scout Mint flavor and my new connection chose a milkshake. Parlour staff let us sample the flavors they had in stock to help us make informed decisions. I appreciated it. Seating is in an adjacent room. The place carries a kid-friendly vibe and I saw one child happily enjoying her ice cream. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in DT Durham.

"Great milkshakes right behind the Durham Bulls stadium"…read more Behind the Bulls stadium, next to Moe's, sits this little treat. We came on a Friday evening at around 7pm, and there was no line (though a few people came in right behind us). The place is bright and airy, with some seating, and a great counter showing a selection of chocolate treats and the menu of milkshakes. I was delighted that they had some dairy-free milkshakes, given my lactose intolerance! And 4 choices no less! They of course had fancier flavors in the dairy set, more complex than CookOut (which I love). My girlfriend and I got the lactose-free cookies and cream milkshake. They fixed it on the spot, so we got it in maybe 2 minutes. Service was friendly-- they were patient with the customers behind us who were a bit unruly (more playful unruly than rude). One word-- DELICIOUS. Not too sweet, but just right. I've had some weird dairy-free milkshakes with a grittiness or chalkiness, but this was straight-up like how I remember the real deal. It was thick too, and unlike CookOut, they gave you a thick straw so you can actually drink with it. Why 4 stars and not 5? The price was a bit steep. With a $1 tip, this one shake (which was reasonably sized but far from huge) was over $10. But for the quality and selection, I do think it's "not unreasonable". Worth the try, and worth it for a special treat!
