Ladies at the bar were as friendly as family, burger was cooked to perfection, fries well done exactly as I requested. Great neighborhood bar/restaurant. Just unfortunate that I'm only in the area every month or so.

Stoped in for brunch today which is Sundays from 10-2. Excellent menu options from biscuits and gravy to sandwiches with chips along with fresh fruit and crabcake if you so desire. Breakfast bowl was very well prepared and delicious with sausage gravy and my order of chipped beef on toast was quite nice at an excellent price point too! Fruit cup was in a large bowl. Menu does not reflect current pricing as my chipped beef was listed as $7 but billed $8 and my wife's bowl was listed as coming with toast but none arrived. Also, there is a small credit card up charge so keep that in mind when paying. Simple updates to menu pricing and offerings are all that's needed to round out an excellent brunch dining option at Benders.

Good fried fish a tad to much breading for me to say it was great. French fries seemed fresh cut. My wife had the special potato soup which we think the potatos were cooked to complete mush because we didn't find any potato in it. All in all I would go back. Prices were ok for the area your in. You will be parking on the street so if you can't parallel park it may be difficult.

We were looking for a place to eat after visiting battlefield park. Food & service was great. Bathrooms were a bit dive-y - but if you enjoy the authentic, slightly rough-edged atmosphere - completely acceptable.

This place is a hidden gem.

Great dive bar with amazing food. It's a bar, with a bar atmosphere. But the food is high quality and the drink specials never disappoint.

Good food, bring cash or ATM card as they don't accept credit cards anywhere in this town from the 3 places I visited.

Petes-Get Drunk for $10, buy some flour, play some keno, sit in silent judgement, feel better about…read moreyourself Some might say Petes is a Dive. That would be a oversimplification. Yes you will encounter people who have jobs wherein manual labor is required. They will probably have opinions similar to Archie Bunker. If these things dissuade you from going too Petes it says more about you than about them. All-in-All the people are friendly. Just try to avoid topics that might offend a Trump supporter. Petes is not dive its more of time machine. When is the last time you got drunk for $10. $2 "ying-ling" drafts. There's cider and usually 1 craft beer on tap a few in the bottle. Of course there is every form and fashion of BMC (Bud/Miller/Coors) product lines. For those who really want slum it "the beast." One time I even saw Meister Brau. There is a basic offering of liquor. Although they do have a more comprehensive selection for off-premises sales. Im sure there's some box style wine if ur girl looking for some zin-fen-dale. Petes also functions as a limited selection grocery store. So here's how that works your wife asks "honey could you run too the store and grab some flour?" If you live in Sharpsburg you say "of course honey" then you goto Petes get your flour and claim you drove too Shepherdstown then use the extra 30 minutes to drink beer and buy a bag of flour. It's a win-win. I'm not making this up. There is a basic food menu. Everything is serviceable but it's the type of food that your WW2 gramps would like. No James Beard awards are in the offing. There's also old timey bar snacks like pickled Bologna and bags of potato chips. The crowd is typical of Sharpsburg: the guy who still thinks randomly screamin "freebird" is ironic, people who actually get a paycheck and then cash that check and bring paper currency to Petes and place that currency in the juke box only too play Nickelback, the guy who loves Tupac but doesn't like black people, Civil War tourists too embarrassed too leave without ordering something and me judging everyone. Give it a try who are you too resist?

Thank you Angie for such a nice dinner experience! We had reservations at another local restaurant but we were disappointed that restaurant was closed. So we google searched and found Press room! We made reservations and asked about handicap accommodations for a wheelchair. There are two steps, and they had two wonderful gentlemen open the doors and bring up the non-motorized wheelchair and person easily and seat us at a convenient table already with a space of the wheelchair. Angie, our server, was so friendly and excellent, giving suggestions and her opinions on food as we asked and keeping our table cleared of used dishes and our water glasses full. Even with a busy night, our food was served in good time at a good temperature. Everyone loved their meals - seafood chowder, special steaks for the nights special, breaded pork cutlet (yum! reminded me of Wiener Schnitzel), appetizers and desserts. The tiramisu was a nice size serving and the dark chocolate custard (like a thicker mousse - was oh so amazing). Everyone had a great time and meal. One person said it was the best steak she ever had (the nightly special) and my husband was talking about coming back as we were leaving. For parties more than four, I think it would be good to make reservations early and to update the restaurant as the party size changes. Initially, we had a party of 8 which became 6. The table fit 6 perfectly, but 8 would have more difficult blocking the walkway or may have needed a table farther back or in the other room. I think it would be good to call for reservations in general, since it was a Monday night Christmas week and walk-ins were not accepted due to the number of reservations.
