Just left an hour ago. When we arrived the hostess told us we could sit at one of a few tables available. So we picked one and ordered food. As we sat and waited forever for our food we saw reserved signs all around us. Seemed like an event was going on. The tavern filled up and everyone was staring at us like we weren't supposed to be there including the staff. Our hostess seated us at a round table toward the back. It was quite obvious they needed more seats and it was awkward even sitting there. Food was ok. Fryer oil tasted old. $25 for crab Mac and cheese that had a slight hint of a crab taste. Ordered a medium burger and it was well done. Ordered a pretzel with cheese sauce and the cheese was off color/old/ burnt. The deviled eggs were fantastic. Stoped in for brunch today which is Sundays from 10-2. Excellent menu options from biscuits and gravy to sandwiches with chips along with fresh fruit and crabcake if you so desire. Breakfast bowl was very well prepared and delicious with sausage gravy and my order of chipped beef on toast was quite nice at an excellent price point too! Fruit cup was in a large bowl. Menu does not reflect current pricing as my chipped beef was listed as $7 but billed $8 and my wife's bowl was listed as coming with toast but none arrived. Also, there is a small credit card up charge so keep that in mind when paying. Don't let the other reviews scare you off when they describe this place as merely a "biker bar" with food. But also know that as we walked up, about 10 bikers were walking out! This little hole in the wall is more than a biker bar though; it is also a really good restaurant. I had the raging' Cajun pasta, which was cooked perfectly and packed with shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage. The heat level was just right. My meal came with a salad; get the honey-lime-pistachio dressing...you won't regret it. My hubby had the fish and chips, but substituted the chips for onion rings. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky & juicy under the crispy beer-battered coating. The onion rings were an awesome substitute, crispy and fresh. The staff was very friendly, but maybe not as entirely attentive as we'd prefer. We'll certainly come back for another visit. read more

We are in town for a Geocaching event and we're looking for a bite to eat after a busy day. This place was an excellent choice. We had the crab dip to start and it was fantastic. Then I had the French onion soup and the fish and chips which were also very good. My boyfriend had the Ragin' Cajun pasta which he said was delicious but it looked too spicy for me. The kid had chicken tenders, and he said they were ok. He's 6 though, and it's hard to get him to sit down and eat. In addition to the food being good, the service was excellent. The waiter was attentive without being overbearing and he was extremely kind with my little one. We were in the area and this was one of the closest and open options at the time. The food was decent; nothing to write home about. It's typical pub food but served its' purpose at the time. My issue with the establishment is the obnoxious confederate flag they have outside. As a minority, I had reservations about even entering the place, but the people were polite. I understand that It's a civil war town and that this area borders on West Virginia but Maryland is a blue state and never left the union. Perhaps there is a better way to honor Maryland's confederate sympathizers without having to put a large confederate flag outside the establishment. Just a thought. read more

I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is mainly a biker bar, which happens to sell food. The food was standard. You can go to any burger joint and get the same thing, or probably better. The service is horrible! The waiter over billed us and when it was pointed out to him, started acting like we were the jerks. Finally, if you care about sanitary conditions, just walk in the bathroom. It was very dirty. A bathroom is a great predictor of how well they keep the kitchen clean. Hope this helps! read more

First, in case you miss the "Cash Only" sign there is an ATM inside. The place has a outdoor area in the back to play corn hole and smoke...or even eat with the two picnic tables back there. I went for lunch today. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a very nice bartender almost immediately about a drink and if I wanted a menu. I got a drink, looked over the menu, and ordered the fish and chips. My food came out in a basket... no frills. It was a good 12" long piece of fish with coleslaw, ketchup, mayo and tarter as sides/ dips. I asked, and received, some malt vinegar and then I had a taste. I've had fish and chips, more expensively, that were not as crisp and clean as this filet. The outside was crispy, not oily at all, and light. Slaw was not too mayoee (if you know what I mean). The fish was moist and cooked perfectly. Seasoned fries layered the sides and bottom of the basket. Some of the crispy fries I've had, seriously. With some malt vinegar... a little less crispy, but so good. I liked that I had ketchup and mayo to pick to dip fries in.... if you like mayo, it's pretty good on seasoned fries. My bartender was attentive but not overly. She provided refill my drink as it was getting low and made sure the food was cooked right. Being by myself, she talked to me a bit, but had more than a few other customers to take care of also. So it was nice to have some conversation. Great service, great food, a local, unique place with a lot going for it. When you are going to the Antietam Battlefield for an afternoon, or a local looking to support a local restaurant, stop at this place for a late lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed. Stopped by here after checking out the Shepherdstown farmers market. Had our 2-year-old and 5-month-old with us. It's listed on yelp as 'good for kids'. I'd hardly agree with that. Yes, they had high chairs, and three items on their kids menu, but it ended there. No milk or juice (other than the typical orange/cranberry/pineapple you'd find in a bar). It's a bar, and they have food. The food was tolerable. Hubby and I both got the $6 burger (Sunday special). Advertising leads you to believe it's any burger. It's not. It's the all-American, which is a plain burger, with chips. Fries are an extra $1. We ordered medium, and they were cooked well. But had zero seasoning. First time in my burger eating history that I had to grab a salt shaker. Fries were good. They were out of pickles, and instead of telling us, they just brought them out without. Burnt food and lackluster service. I went to Captain Benders today with my toddler and boyfriend and we were really dissatisfied. There were empty tables but none of them were wiped down. We ordered cheese fries as an appetizer and they came out 20 minutes later burnt. I would've said something to our server but she never came back after dropping them off. We finally got our food 45 minutes after we ordered and everything was pretty gross. My boyfriends wings seemed like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. The only thing that was passable was the pasta with butter and Parmesan for my toddler. I had the special which was a hot roast beef sandwich with smoked tomato jam and blue cheese. It was outstanding! I got the slaw as a side and was not disappointed. The only reason I say that is because of the ridiculous racist reviews people gave this establishment because of their right to wave the confederate flag. My wife ordered the Baltimore Platter and I ordered the monument burger with ghost hot sauce which is free if you can eat it in under 30 minutes. It wasn't a competition for me so I took my time. It was damn good and my wife loved the old bay seasoned chicken smothered with the the crab dip which sounded disgusting to me but was so damn good. Whatever IPA they had on tap was outstanding with my spicy meal. The server was awesome and the staff was attentive to myself, my wife and my 2 kids.
