Located in cobleskill NY, a small, unassuming village, The Bulls head didn't disappoint. Beautiful old historic building, with good food and authentic decor and architecture. A cocktail that actually tastes like what it's supposed to and tasty food. We had the prime special as one of our meals, it was huge! I had the salmon, a little small for the price but also tasty. Horrible experience. Our waitress dumped a full glass of wine on the table which flooded my husbands plate and splashed all over my plate. My white shirt was speckled purple and my husbands shirt was soaked. We decided to just leave and not wait for new plates. My husbands meal was compted but mine was not. Our bill was $98 for an app and four drinks. We drove away hungry and in ruined clothes. I understand accidents happen but don't charge for food that is not edible. read more

I had the strangest experience at the Bull's Head, where my meal was excellent (kudos to the kitchen) but the distinct lack of flexibility and hospitality from the hosts left me with a bad feeling for the whole experience. Food gets 4 stars but only 1 star for front of house. My party arrived 5pm on a fall Saturday where almost all the tables in the restaurant were open. We didn't have a reservation so the hostess said she would only seat us in the cellar tavern. Understandable, maybe all the other tables have reservations and the restaurant would be full before we left (remember this for later in the review) She leads us into the basement where they have a bar and a mix of high tops and four top tables. The first thing that hit me was the overwhelming mildew smell. I should have left then, but I like old inns and despite the odor, it was an interesting space. The hostess leads me to a table right next to a band setting up. When I say "next to", I mean butting up against their equipment and underneath a speaker. I politely asked if we can take one of the multiple unoccupied tables further away from band and received a curt no. Maybe these tables would also be filled shortly? Nope. Halfway through our meal, the band starts playing and we can't hear each other. We wrap up our meal in about 75 minutes The food is good, but we can't hear each other over the band who we're practically in their laps despite other tables still being open (Only one other table came in after us) and the mildew smell is still strong, Here's the kicker...as we walked out of the basement tavern, most of the tables were still empty and the upstairs had only a few tables occupied. They could have sat us anywhere, but chose to give us bad seats and wouldn't entertain a request to move tables even though plenty were open and would likely be open most of the evening. It left us feeling unwelcome and unsatisfied. Reading through other Yelp reviews, this seems to be a regular occurrence rather than an outlier. So, I can say the kitchen here is doing a good job, but I wouldn't sit in the cellar and I wouldn't show up without a reservation with specific requests. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, but unfortunately, my experience here warranted one. We had a 7pm reservation on a Saturday, AKA "Prime Rib Night". After sitting ignored for 10 minutes, we finally got menus. We ordered the hummus (which was $20!!!!) to start and were disappointed to receive store-bought corn chips and store-bought hummus along with a handful of veggies. After eating the hummus, our dinner didn't get to the table until 8, a 30-minute wait. And it was not worth the wait. My wife ordered the seafood pasta ($40!), which featured chewy scallops - but we should've known better than to order seafood. The worst part of the night was the prime rib, which I ordered because I figured it was their best dish. Unfortunately, it was horribly undercooked and bordering on inedible. If it was busy, I'd give them a break, but we were one of two tables in the restaurant by 7:30. Absolutely no excuse to charge $20 for store-bought hummus, make us wait so long for our dinner, and not only to mis-cook the prime rib, but to serve it so undercooked. I don't understand why anyone in town would ever go here and spend $100 on a below average dinner when you can go pretty much anywhere else for cheaper and better. read more

We first visited 31 years ago and the food was so fantastic that we remembered the place so well that we were happy to see it was still there when visiting Howe Cavern again. We were afraid it couldn't be as good as it was back then but happy to say the quality, preparation and taste were just as wonderful!!! We ate downstairs in the tavern. The music was excellent and our waitress could not possibly have been nicer. I am vegetarian and I had sufficient options to be very happy. We were thrilled with everything from our appetizers to main course to dessert! The portions were generous and delicious!! We wish we lived closer! Would definitely our go to restaurant!! Only criticism, we were freezing! Not sure if it would be warmer upstairs but we wanted to hear the musicians so chose the tavern. If you plan to do the same, dress warmly! Visiting from PA and came here on a random Tuesday night. We sat in the tavern downstairs which had that old tavern ambiance. When we initially came in, there were only a few tables seated. That quickly changed as people filtered in within minutes. The waitress/bartender Stacey was running the whole show. Taking orders, making drinks and running for food. She was also very personable and remembered what we said despite the 1000 things going on for her. Stacey definitely deserves a raise. They make their Rueben egg rolls and they were something to write home about. We add the chicken pot pie, it had that beautiful crust that you love to see on a pot pie. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The Specials was confusion and food horrible. All items on the menu had prices to them except the desert which only stated $1.99 for a scoop of ice cream. I explained I assumed the desert was apart of the diner specials. The manager came over with such an agressive and racist attitude I felt threatened. Never have I dealt with such unprofessionalism and extreme racism . When I explained the situation to the hotel I was staying at they told me they would never recommend the restaurant due to the expensive horrible food. read more

On a whim returning from Cooperstown we were looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon the Bull's Head Inn located in Cobelskill. This historic haunted inn located here since 1802 was restored to its former glory by the most recent owners was perfectly completed. Appetizer, full not the half- was perfect for 2 Baked Brie wrapped in filo dough topped with a delicious warm mixed fruit compote, served with cracker's. As we ate it we felt the compote could be a pie filling or served over ice cream it was that good. Entree- we both had this as it just jumped at us both. Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu Boneless, skinless, chicken layered with baked ham, Swiss cheese and topped with dijon parm sauce. One was served with a disassembled loaded baked potato the second smashed potatoes and fresh green beens Dessert Tuxedo Bomb duel flavored chocolate mousse covered in a chocolate shell. I skipped the ice cream. Madison was our server and she was absolutely perfect and on point with the excellent dirty martinis. A group of 12 teachers dined at the Bull's Head Inn this afternoon. We made a reservation and our table was available upon our arrival. Drinks were delivered promptly; we have heard great things about their alcoholic drinks but we're dining before Open House. We will have to come next time for Happy Hour. The waitress was very attentive and made us aware of the specials. We all enjoyed our meals but the standouts were the corn chowder (special), BBQ brisket sandwich (special), and the garlic Parmesan fries. Our server accommodated our rowdy bunch of educators and odd requests like no "oil" on the fries, extra pickles, and condiments aplenty. I ordered the bbq ribs. The portion was huge. The ribs were good for pre sauced ribs. Not my favorite way of having them but they were good. ExCtly what you expect when order ribs from a restaurant that doesn't specialize in BBQ. The portion was what stood out. I ordered a half rack and I don't know if someone messed up or what but I ended up with what seemed to me like a full rack of ribs. The ribs came with your standard issue steak fries. Cooked in the typical fashion. They were exactly what you expect when you order steak fries. There may have been a side of coleslaw in there. I can't remember. That's how good / bad it was. Either way the food was good, not off the chain but good. The cellar was a trip though. They had this jazz cat down there that seemed like he could have been one of the aliens from Buckaroo Banzai. He was playing stand up bass along with some crazy pre-recorded accompaniment. And the songs were all over the place. From hip-hop and rock to crazy Latin stuff. It was like if your kid hit the random play button on Spotify. It was more surreal than anything. The guy was kinda weird and the songs were kind of weird, and the vibe was pretty wacky. We got in without a reservation but would have liked to have one as you needed one for the cellar as there was live music and prime rib being served. We were seated in the dining room next to what I guess is there a banquet hall where a rather loud party was having a great time. Food was great even my kid who has had chicken fingers in the nicest of restaurants all over the globe liked theirs. I think it was just a long day but we will try here again. Acting snarky with 'most guests' in review comments will not serve you well. You can't be at your restaurant 24/7, and I understand that. Instead of assuming every negative review is from an unreasonable guest, maybe you should ask your staff about the incident or check your cameras. Even if it was busy (it definitely wasn't) the attitude from the hostess was uncalled for. Either way, it's no skin off my nose. I just ate at the next restaurant over. We had the worst experience at Bulls Head Inn. We had an early reservation at 5:00. We ordered our food, after waiting 1 hour we asked the wait staff where our food was. As we had children with us. There response was "it will be awhile we have large parties" We asked how long awhile was they said we will have to wait. The manager or owner came over and she was just as rude and dismissive. Acting as if she was doing us a favor of letting us wait for their food. They never apologized, couldn't tell us how long the food will take and charged us for the drinks and one soup that was served. We left without ever eating our meals. I have no problem waiting for food. They should tell us when we walk in it will be wait. They should bring a complimentary appetizer or at the least some bread for the table if you are going to make people wait over an hour. For what is honestly mediocre food. We used to take all of our out of town guests there (which we were doing this evening) But after being treated like they didn't care if we ate or not. We will never go back, and make sure no one we knows does either read more

There is so much history in this building, it was established in 1802. The atmosphere is simply fantastic, it really has a colonial inn feel from the tables, to the fireplace to the lighting, etc. I think the restaurant is worth visiting for that alone, just to see a part of history that is over 200 years old. You would go to see the building, but you will be wowed by their food. The Food: Lobster Bisque- I thought their bisque was great, it had so much flavor. I really liked the creaminess of the soup and the nice vinegar kick from the sherry. The nice chunks of lobster was an added bonus. Rueben Egg Roll- Corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and red pepper rolled in a crispy wonton with Russian Dressing. It's an East meets West dish and it totally worked. I certainly rate the overall experience five star! This place is a beautiful historical restoration. It warrants a visit just to see it! The service and friendly atmosphere were absolutely remarkable compared to most short staffed restaurants these days. The food was good. Stuffed sole with rice and green beans. Really enjoyed it. The downstairs bar is really pretty with a pub like atmosphere and live music every Friday and Saturday night. Well worth a visit even if you have to go out of your way a little bit. It does take some time to get your food but not unreasonably long, and the staff are very attentive. The cellar tavern is a nice spot to sit and take time to enjoy your meal. They often have music in the tavern as well. Reservations strongly recommended; while they do accept walk-ins we've been turned away every time we tried. We went there for dinner and the hostess wasn't the most friendly. I had the grilled Prime Rib. It was the worst Prime Rib I ever had. Very fatty-I couldn't eat 85% of it. It is clear this was a poor grade of beef. The waitress was good and cordial. There was an event at the park across the street, so parking was limited. The parking lot in the back was full but we found a spot directly behind the back door. We were blocked in when it was time to leave. We went to the service door and was rudely told by the owner "that is my parking space". You would think he would have been happy to have dinner customers and treat them with respect. He can keep his parking space-we will never come back, between the meal and the rudeness. I wouldn't be surprised if it is only a matter of time before they close. read more

So many good meals I have had from this restaurant. The best is they take special care for all gluten free meals. They have their own gluten free menu. It doesn't matter if we order delivery or in the restaurant. They always package it separate and take special care to make sure it is separated from the other food. They even have gluten free dessert. Having a child with celiac disease make it hard to eat out especially in small towns.
