The Cherry Valley area is beautiful. The Tryon Inn is outdated but clean and spacious. Our server was very nice but running around like crazy. He could have used some help. The food was ok. My quesadilla was nearly empty and not great. The Chicken Riggies were only ok. The fried chicken sandwich was ok but the fried fish was good. Nothing was outstanding. The owners are trying to sell and retiring in September. Probably a good choice. read more

Tried to call in take out. Got phone message no one covering phone. So I drove there put in order. The time was 6:30 pm. I was given a ticket that said it would be ready at 7:00 pm. I finally got the order at 8:00 pm. When I got home it was not the correct order that I made and paid for. This experience has really made a bad impression. read more

We were just there for dinner tonight for the first time with a reservation. We arrived at 6:00 was offered service for water and drinks at 6:10. There was a large party in the same room where we were seated and after hearing all the noise. We asked to be moved and they found us another table. So we put our food order in finally at 6:35, our soups. salads and apps showed up at 7:10. Looking for dinner maybe by 7:20, we asked if it was coming twice and the response was we are backed up. So dinner finally showed up at 7:55, it was painful experience, like watching paint dry. Dinner was tasty, nothing exceptional and some ingredients missing, but what really torqued me the most was the service charge on the bill for using my American Express Card. I was unfortunate enough to come across a pretty bad batch of salt potatoes at their mobile stand at the Schoharie Sunshine Fair. After also working the fair all week I figured, on first glance, that maybe it had just sat in the pan too long and got a little bit of a burn on it. No big. But when I dug in and put this in my mouth the taste was terribly revolting. I had already eaten one potato out of the "loaded potatoes" I was given and it was great! But then this one entered my mouth and it was like the bottom scrapings of a fish barrell left in the sun that had been pissed on by a stray dog. What's worse is I'm allergic to mold. They refunded us and apologized, but the damage was already done. My throat tightened, my sinuses flared, and my eyes are watering as I write this. Maybe they didn't sell enough at the fair on previous day's, but this is really no excuse to exposing customers to rotten food. I'm flabbergasted. $5 to get an allergy attack? Sheesh. Visited your establishment on Friday. Sat in the bar at eight o'clock. Ordered onion rings, sweet potato fries and Asian wings figuring they're all apps and would come out fairly quick. The bar was about full but a large table got up and left as we ordered. Only a few other tables occupied in dining area so you weren't slammed. 845 and no food. Sweet bartender goes back to check and then tells us they haven't even started the order. I was informed the owner was sitting in the bar while a customer has to wait that long for basic apps that are probably frozen and just need to be dumped in a fryer. Really pathetic on your part. We live locally and will tell all our friends to avoid your restaurant. Your kitchen sucks! How do you expect your wait staff to make tips during the tourist season when your kitchen cant put out basic food?!?! Your bartender was a sweetheart. read more

This place must be under new ownership since those first two negative reviews were posted. My group had a wonderful time here. It was slow during our visit (late afternoon on a snowy weekend), but nonetheless there was fresh complementary -- delicious! -- popcorn available and a coal stove warming the barroom. There was a selection of local brews on tap, and even a local cider for my GF partner. We chatted with the friendly owner for a while; he told us all about the gardens they grow out back in the summer, their event space, and their pet-friendly patios. We didn't stay to eat, but the food smelled like something I would come back for. Overall: definitely nice for a drink, and probably good for a meal or your next special event too. read more

I came here on a date. I know shocking right . When you walk in it looks like a regular resteraunt and that's all it really is. You have to appreciate the beauty in places like this because they are rustic. The frames are wooden and it's very homey or country. They have a small indoor bar, stocked with your average wines and liquors. I did order food; I ordered the vegan Tuscan pasta. It was alright, kind of bland. I wouldn't be like "oooh let me order that again". I did get served with a spoon, which I thought was very strange. The dish was also pretty small for around $18. See picture. The staff was very young, as commented on by other yelpers. The waiter was very nice and very attentive. He got the food and drinks out in a timely manner. The owner was very nice and personable. He was very nice and offered to have a shot with me. So to end my review I would say I would recommend this place to maybe a bored weekday family who didn't want to cook. I probably would not make this a regular place because of the prices, but all and all it is not a bad place. read more

I have eaten here several times over the last year. Recently they have made some very positive changes that I hope will bring them up to the level of service that we received last night. To be honest the first 3 times we ate here, the food was a hit or miss. Recently they hired a new chef and he has developed a new menu that is shorter, but very complete for any taste and budget. They start with homemade bread and an option of a sweet honey butter that they make or regular butter. My wife had the Delmonico Steak with a lobster/crab bisque. I had the Chicken Oscar with a side salad and we shared a Key Lime Pie dessert. The dinners were great! I had abundant crab, asparagus and cheese topping my chicken. My wife's Delmonico was seasoned great and flavorful.Her bisque was definately one of the best she has had. I also had their Bare Naked Ale which was delightful. I really don't care for the mass produced beers and ales and this one did not dissapoint. If they can maintain this quality of food and service, I see a bright future for them. Great Job on Bringing a Favorite Restaurant back to life. Few kinks in the service the first week but everybody is in board now and service is much better.. A good all around menu featuring prime rib, chicken marsala, crabcakes etc. all tasting very good with decent portion sizes too. Nice homey feel to the building wihtout feeling crowded. We were there Labor Day weekend and the food was tremendous. I got the prime rib which was cooked to perfection.The staff there is very friendly and caters to food allergies very well you just have to tell them. The building is lovely and gives you a Adirondack feel. I would definitely visit again. read more

I'm sorry as I hate to write a negative review but I must. We (5 of us) ate here last night (8/11/13). The ambiance is similar to what it must be like to eat at a Best Western. Just a room of large round tables with old fashioned, ugly decor. The food was very average, the menu quite limited. Had a vegetarian curry dish which was ok. Petite filet which was ok. Hamburger was ok and 2 others had a chicken francais which they called 'chicken french'. Ugh. Salads were ok. Nothing was special or worth the prices they charged. We ordered a bottle of red wine. Waitress came back to tell us they were out of that bottle and suggested another. She said it was 'great', 'everyone loves it' AND, 'its screw-top so it's easier for me!" Really? Ugh. The waitress was sweet, young (probably too young to have tried the really wonderful wine she was suggesting) and totally unprepared to be a waitress. I lost count of how many times she came over to the table and spoke VERY loudly to interrupt our conversation to say, "is everything ok?" Go to the Mexican restaurant in Cherry Valley. The positive side is that this place has been renovated and is open. The negative side is the food and decor. Have been there twice and can honestly say..blech. The best thing I can compare it to is old people wedding food. Over salted, over and under cooked, and unimaginative. We tried the Tryon burger . We were told they were cooked to 'medium' and even then they arrived burned on one side, closer to well. Fries were soggy. The salad (or soup) that came with it has bitter yellow greens ( the kind you throw away when you find them in your container) and the cheddar broccoli soup was too salty. The pasta was not aldente but cooked a bit too soft with an off tasting meat sauce. They say there is a vegetarian option but it is not listed on the menu for some reason and when we asked what it was we were told it was ' something with tomatoes'. We also had the crab cakes and they were mushy. Our friend ordered the chicken piccata which came in a heavy white sticky mystery sauce. All in all the Tryon will appeal to many in this area of very few restaurants. But if you are looking for quality, freshness and innovation, keep on moving down the road. read more

We were out for a drive Friday night. Ended up in Cherry Valley, So we stopped to the Tryon Inn again. What an awesome place. Clean, friendly place to chill. Had the fish fry as always and was great.Crispy coating, flaky served w/ fries and Cole slaw.....would like a roll and small dinner salad with it..I believe they used to serve that. Wife had a burger cooked to perfection..she loved the happy hour cocktail Only minor complaint. Although Heather not there Arianna is as awesome request them for you servers. My name is David Reidy. I am a cherry valley local. A transplant from NYC. I have been a chef for 20 years in New York City with stints in le cirque, the sign of the dove and the 21 club. I will not anonymously slam this place the way the other commenters have. The food is good. The design is what you would expect for a quite little town in upstate NY. Lots of wood, a wood stove, clean, quiet dining. The food my wife and I had is always good. Brunch is fresh and hot, the burgers and great and everything is as it should be. My only complaint is the French onion soup is a little weak and pricing is a little high for this area. If you are looking for freshly steamed pretentiousness in a trendy sauce it is not here. Went on a very busy night for dinner with a friend. Firstly, we had to share a borrowed menu due to them not having enough for all customers. Nice menu of an assortment of different things, with a choice of rice or baked potato for a side and a salad. My friend ordered the strip steak with bleu cheese melted on the top with rice. I myself ordered the crab cakes. The salad and warm bread in the beggining was a nice start. They never asked how the steak was supposed to be cooked, and service wasn't around too often to say anything. The steak came and looked appetizing, until a taste showed that the bottom had been burnt. The crab cakes were slightly under cooked and mushy in the middle. Both dinners came with some strange cheesy green that was bland. The dining room was comfortable to sit in, and the people were friendly. Decent prices for what you get. read more

It is great to have the Tryon open again. Our food was spectacular. In fact the clam chowder was the best I have ever had with whole clams not little pieces of canned clams. And I have to say we had a wonderful Sunday brunch and the menu offered a variety of food choices. The quiche and the omelettes were delicious as were the side dishes. This was my first time at the Tryon and I found the location charming as well as the folks who own it. There's a large garden on the grounds and you can taste the freshness of those herbs and veggies in their dishes. Our waitress was as friendly as a small town gets, and the owners were excited to tell us the history of the Inn. It's a charming place surrounded by towering maple trees and in a beautiful park-like setting, and the feeling you get is one of nostalgia, being in a town that's right out of Mayberry, but filled with more history and beauty. read more

The Tryon Inn offers delicious food in the most welcoming and comfortable atmosphere I've ever had the pleasure to experience. I visited the Tryon while visiting my fiance during my first trip to Cooperstown. I had the chicken piccata and he had the buffalo alfredo. While food was excellent--juicy, well-seasoned chicken for me and a luxuriously creamy sauce for him--what really sets the Tryon apart from the crowd is the staff. Savannah, our waitress, went far, far above the call of duty to make sure that not only was our meal perfect but that my stay in Cooperstown was memorable and pleasant. She's kind and thoughtful and we can't express how grateful we are that we were able to meet her! Katy, the chef, is spunky, sweet, and obviously quite qualified for her lead role in the kitchen. Every time I've been there the food has been great and the service staff is always friendly and hard-working!! My most recent visit was on Easter Sunday. I had homemade broccoli cheddar soup then for an entrée rack of lamb w/fresh asparagus. Hats off to the chef and everyone in the kitchen. You have to know what you're doing to pull off delish and tender lamb!!! The cheesecakes at this place are to die for and if you like to indulge in an adult beverage, wait until you see their bar selections! You gotta try this place; it's great!!! read more

My first experience at the Tryon Inn, was for a fall wedding. I was simply amazed. The wedding was on the grounds of the Inn. The Gazebo area was set up with rows of seating, tastefully decorated for the ceremony which took place in the Gazebo. The reception took place indoors. It was a beautiful fall day, which allowed the use of the outdoor patio. The dining room was tastefully appointed using fresh flowers as well as rustic decor. The food was displayed in stations in a separate room from the dining area which offered extra space to mingle. The array of food offered was outstanding. The staff members where attentive to everyone needs and the bartender was great. Such a great experience had to go back.. On my return visit - just any given day - had a burger - again awesome.... Food is reasonably priced - excellent daily specials and great neighborhood meeting place...... Cannot wait to return again. read more

My daughter and I dine out at least weekly and are significant critics. Having said that, we find the Tryon to be a comforting, casual and delicious venue to attend. The staff is attentive and personable...always remembering our preferred menu choices and happy to respond to our needs. The food is served quickly and is always prepared to our unique requirements. I recommend the Tryon burger (although I always switch out the salami for bacon!) and the chicken parm is consistently moist and amazing! My daughter is a huge fan of the nachos...I'm assuming they bake their own chips as they are a puffy and crisp delight! Oh...and the Greek Pizza...divine! Regarding the decor (responding to other reviews on this site)....it's fine enough and more importantly, the dining areas and facilities are always spotless. Don't dismiss this "gem in the raw" restaurant. If you want a casual, friendly and quintessential Upstate NY dining experience, make the Tryon your stopping place. read more

We spend almost every weekend at our cottage on Canadarago Lake in Richfield Springs and were happy to find a new spot for dinner. First, we were pleasantly surprised to find the ride was only about 20 minutes. We made a reservation so seating was not a problem. We were able to order cocktails immediately and were promtly served. Then we ordered our dinners. When my husband asked for peppercorn dressing and the waitress said it may be a few extra minutes because she would have to make it. We all agreeded that was great service. We waited a little while, as expected, for the salads. While waiting for our dinners we noticed that there were only 2 waitresses but didn't think too much of it because there were only about 5 tables with patrons. Although I'm not not sure how many tables were in the bar. Anyway, our food took a long time to be served. Almost an hour between courses. It was worth the wait though! I had the Salmon which was delicious! Very moist with fresh string beans that were tender and not over cooked.The rice was tasty even though I'm not a white rice fan. My husband and friend both had the haddock and both really enjoyed it. Our other friend had the chicken parmasean and also said it was delicious. When the waitress came back to ask how everything was and our friend ordered another beer. We had finished our meals and he still didn't hadn't recieved his beer. When the waitress came back he told her to forget the beer and it wasn't a problem. Her answer really surprised us. She said "well, the beer is already open at the bar! So he politely agreeded to take it. To sum it all up. The waitress was friendly, the atmosphere was historically nice, the food was good but the wait for dinner and the forced beer was horrible! We will be back again. Hopefully the timing is better. My husband puts a lot of weight on this part of the rating! read more
