My only small critique was the cheese sauce for the pretzel was very liquidy when it first came out but once it cooled a bit (few minutes) it was at a nice viscous consistency that was very dip-friendly! The place was small but very cozy. It was clean and had friendly servers. The food was definitely 5/5. I truly enjoyed my Prime Rib Melt, I feel that it's one of the best sandwiches I ever tasted. The bun was soft but crunchy on the inside as it was toasted! It was delicious! The meat was tender and juicy; easy to bite into. I enjoyed my little dessert and the parm fries were good. I would've liked to see more of that garlic sauce on the fries though, most of the sauce was on the bottom. And no complaints on the burger. My only reason for giving 4 stars was because we went at a slow hour yet it was hard to get anyone's attention. The servers crowded up by a table together and waited for customers to come in. This was some good some bad. We started off on a rocky note, our first waitress was so rude !! However she tossed it to someone else and we were back in track. Dinner doesn't start until 5pm, we arrived at 4pm so we started with appetizers to pass the time. The chicken wings were nice and meaty, the pulled pork nachos full of meat, the potatoe skins, wet and a weird color. For dinner we had the NY strip, nice portion and cooked as ordered, and the salmon, which was also nicely cooked and a good size plating. Dessert was a decent size also and not bad, ice cream and a brownie and tiramisu. Not sure they are made in house but tasty. The actual restaurant has a nice footprint, remove the tacky hobby lobby plants and decor and it would be much better, and overall clean including the bathroom. Meal prices were in keeping with today's costs, the drinks prices a little high for tea/soda. All in all we would go back, it's nice little place in an area devoid of much. read more

Forget Saratoga, this restaurant in Schoharie is the place to go to. The aesthetic is comfortable farmhouse chic, the staff is both kind and professional, and the food was exceptional. For appetizers we had the Mexican street corn dip and chicken wings; the street corn was perfect, and the chicken wings were crunchy and not soggy; both had so much flavor we left nothing on the plates when we were done. Dinner consisted of a pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac and cheese, and chicken tacos with french fries; again, it was all delicious! And for dessert we would have the key lime pie and the brownie sunday. The key lime pie was so good that my nephew would take a piece home to have for breakfast the next morning. We can here on the way to Howe Caverns. They are just 12 minutes away. We ordered a sliced prime rib melt, classic burger medium cooked and a pulled pork sandwich. Two mixed greens and a fried. Walking in I loved the rustic feel. It was a chilly, rainy day and there was a 2 top and a 6-8 top located near the windows which I would always opt for . However, I was worried about the chill from the door opening and closing so we chose a high top in the back of the restaurant. Ordered appetizer and salad. Although good , it was under seasoned and bland. Our entrees came out before appetizer and salad were finished . We had a small table so we had to hurry and finish so our entrees would not sit . As a local we always give a restaurant several chances to work out issues but this restaurant in my opinion has gotten worse not better. 2 out of 4 guests arrived and no drinks were offered until the whole party arrived. 4 tables occupied with 4 waitresses and the owner and it took 2 1/2 hrs to get a salad, Mac and cheese, a burger and a portion of a flank steak Service has always been subpar since they opened. The title Beef is in their name yet they only have a flank steak and a rib eye on the menu Food is tasty however portion sizes are lean. $20 will get you some sliced flank steak, a quarter piece of corn and a golf ball size sweet potato. They don't take reservations even though I called ahead since our guests were in their 90s and no provisions would be made No Covid precautions seen! read more

I visited this place once (solo) for appetizers, smoked wings and blistered peppers, and was impressed. Making sure this place was legit, I went back with the family and tried the iron skillet mac and cheese, flatbreads, desserts and adult beverages. Still impressed!! Went back again with one of the kids for their Oktoberfest buffet, just to triple check, was again impressed. They had some live jazz music this night too - super cool! Their food is great. The last time our server, from our previous visit, said when seating us, iced tea and a water, right? You don't get that often. The Mac and cheese with bacon is hard to stop eating. My better half and I just had the most incredibly perfect "last night of vacation" dinner, here in Schoharie, NY, at The Farmers Beef and Brew! I had their Classic Burger (one of the 3 best burgers I've ever eaten in the past 60 years) and she had their grilled chicken sandwich, and we both had small garden salads. Our server, Loran Bruyn, was every bit as perfect as our meals, which literally could not have been improved upon! And when we stop to think that our winding up in downtown Schoharie was a fluke -- a quick search of "Fossil collecting sites near me" turned up a roadcut site, some 4 miles away, about 30 miles east of where we've been vacationing, at The KOA Herkimer Diamond Mines/Campground -- this was the ultimate "cherry" on top of an amazingly warm, loving and long overdue getaway for the two of us, and we can't wait to return. read more

The Farmers Beef and Brew at 305 Main Street, Schoharie NY is a new restaurant that is following the farm to table model. We arrived on this Friday night and were seated right away. The seating is currently a bit limited so we sat at a 6 top, which being a party of 2, felt guilty for doing so, but we understand they are looking to add some more tables, hopefully more 2 or 4 tops. They have 6 brews on tap, all relatively local creatations, along with some wines. We started with the Cast Iron Mac & Cheese, $15.00, as an appetizer, a hearty serving of rotelle pasta smothered in creamy cheese. It was quite tasty, I hope they will consider offering a true appetizer size in a half the size cast iron pan as I feel it would be a winner. Also the addition of a true serving spoon would be greatly appreciated to aid in serving. For our entrées, my love had the Breaded Chicken Cutlet, $18.00, topped with mushrooms, bacon and a Gorgonzola cheese sauce. This was accompanied by a hamburger soup, cooked carrots and a sweet potato. Not being a tomatoe fan she did not enjoy the soup unfortunately. She found the Chicken Cutlet tasty and moist, and having a taste I would agree. If you are not a gorgonzola cheese fan I would perhaps ask for the sauce on the side or without it at all, although that would definitely change the flavor profile of the dish. I went with the Highland Hollow 16oz Ribeye Steak, $26.00, with mashed potatoes and side salad. Raised right up the road, this steak was tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. The potatoes are skin on mashed, on the lumpy side, neither of which are my perfered style of mashed, so take that under advice if you prefer a smooth skin free mash. They were quite good though as were the cooked carrots. Lastly, the lady opted for the Pumpkin Cheesecake, $7.00, while I went with the Carrot Barn hot baked apple cider donut à la Mode, $6.00, topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. My love thoroughly enjoyed the cheesecake, while the Donut à la Mode was delightful, the crisp donut with melting vanilla ice cream is not to be missed. The service seems to need a bit of sorting but was acceptable, they are making a genuine effort but the offer of drinks initially came slow and we did not receive bread, only to see other tables receive a basket afterwards, not that we needed it with the Carb-O-lious Mac. I would recommend taking a drive to downtown Schoharie and visiting The Farmers Beef and Brew, I believe you will find the experience enjoyable. read more

My husband and I spent the afternoon at Howe Caverns and were looking for a quick bite to eat before our drive home. We found The Farmers Beef and Brew through Google--of course, and figured we'd take a chance. I am so glad we did. Our server, Elizabeth was sweet and funny and very helpful with suggestions about the menu. We started with the potstickers, crunchy and meaty with a delicious Thai chili dipping sauce. My only regret is we didn't also get the giant pretzel with beer cheese dip. It looked amazing--i was eyeballing it at the table across from us. My husband got the NY strip with baked potato and mixed veg. The steak was PERFECT. Tender and savory, juicy and an absolute perfect medium rare. I tried the shrimp tacos and Elizabeth assured me that the chipotle sauce had the right amount of heat without being too hot. She was absolutely right. Three Tacos stuffed with shrimp and all the right toppings, handcut fries and the most amazing homemade dressing for the salad that i stole from my husbands dinner. Portions were large and we almost didn't have room for dessert but once again Elizabeth talked us into a homemade brownie sundae. Served in a tiny skillet, we got one to share, that was a mistake. Definitely get your own or be prepared to be very aggressive with that spoon. We had appetizers, a delicious dinner, beverages, dessert and five star service all for about 60 bucks. WELL WORTH IT. My only issue --I live an hour and a half away from The Farmers Beef and Brew. . A long drive just for a meal...my husband and I are already planning a return visit this week. Worth the drive!! A couple of us went here recently for the Sunday breakfast buffet. It was a good experience, with only a couple exceptions. My initial impression was that this place prides itself on using local ingredients (namely, local meats). As expected, the sausage in the breakfast buffet was amazing. As was just about everything else in the buffet. But, we were shocked and disappointed that they offered no local maple syrup or honey for the french toast they were serving up, and offered pre-portioned packets of the flavored corn-syrup stuff in lieu of *real* maple syrup, which really stinks because as a place that serves local fare, you would think that providing real syrup and honey instead of corn-syrup, white sugar, and Sweet-n-Low would be a no-brainer. The atmosphere was good, except that the music was...not. I think it was pop & top 40 country, which really wasn't conducive to a relaxing & quiet Sunday morning brunch. The wall decor was really cool, and the loads of natural light was wonderful. It was a bit slow when we were there, so table service was good. We found the Farmers Beef and Brew on a frigid day after numerous failed attempts to find an open diner. Walking in, two things were immediately clear; there was a nice rustic atmosphere, and there were no customers. The waitress wasn't overly friendly but not unpleasant. The choice of music was 2000s country and very pleasant which is good considering the almost painful awkwardness of being the only ones in the place (our order number on the receipt was 0002). The menu is riddled with spelling errors and provides a sort of word search variant to kill time while you wait for your promptly served appetizer. We ordered potstickers for our appetizer and though I would not guess they were freshly made, they were decent. We finished them. The entrees came out after a short wait and were simple as expected but not disappointing. I thoroughly enjoyed my burger and the macaroni and cheese wasn't exceptional but it wasn't bad either. Overall a good experience and if you are ever freezing and in need of a place to eat, the Farmers Beef and Brew just may be what you're looking for. P.S. Samantha didn't order lemonade. read more

I'm going to leave my email to the owner as our review. As background, we called to order and were asked to hold, which we did, for 15 minutes. The woman answering the phone had forgotten I was on the phone. Living close, my husband went to tell them that the phone was off hook as I was on hold,listening to all in the restaurant. I didn't want to just hang up (leaving their phone off and not being able to call back, or anyone able to call there) so I emailed my order too and hoped for the best. When my husband returned with our dinner I also received an email back apologizing for our trouble. They had sent complimentary dessert as well. My email back, which I struggled whether to send to them, follows. I hate leaving a poor review. I felt it best to be honest with the business in hope that it would assist in making it better for others. "Unfortunately, we were left disappointed with the food we ordered. My husband's ravioli were only partially heated through and the macaroni and cheese didn't have any flavor. He liked the jalapeño poppers, steak and the pretzels were good.
