Good drip coffee and a cool atmosphere. The empanadas were delicious and a must try for breakfast. The service was on point and friendly. There's no seating inside, but you can stand outside and drink your coffee.

When I first walked in to bump coffee, I noticed in a case behind the counter they were these items. I thought they were maybe danish or croissants and then I was told no what we sell is empanadas. Bacon, ham, sausage and I remember thinking, I have never thought of having an empanada for breakfast or lunch. So yesterday, my curiosity got the best of me and I went in after my walk and bought some. All the flavors that I wanted had been sold out and are sold out every day before 10 AM. OK, reboot. I talked to the lovely lovely women behind the counter and then I think the manager or the owner came up to me and said we can sell them to you frozen and you can heat them up at home. So we did for appetizers last night. OMG! They were without a doubt the best new appetizer we have ever had, we could only eat between us three maybe two, but they were so full of flavor and cheese and a little egg and the meats. It's in a little mall next to VG so easy to find a lot of parking on the street and their lot, the service is nothing but smiles and how can I help? This is a rad place and by the way, the coffee is outstanding.

Cute, little open air coffee shop for grab 'n go coffee and empanadas. They are only open until 2pm so make sure to visit in the mornings. I visited just after lunch and 2 empanada flavors were left: bacon, egg, and cheese and ham & cheese. The staff member at the register said her favorite was ham & cheese and she was right! It was pretty good. The bacon, egg, and cheese flavor was just ok. There is a little bar top (standing only) to enjoy your coffee and treats. It looks out to the parking lot an in the direction of the ocean so you get the nice ocean air.

Basic and simple coffee shop, more of "grab n go" type of place. No seating at all. There is a small counter top table where you can stay and linger for a bit while sipping your coffee. No expresso or other coffee drink varieties. Just simple pour over coffee. Pleasant customer service. I was able to try Caprese empanada which was small but still pretty good. I would stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood.

The sausage, egg, and cheese empanada was very flavorful. The breading was crisp on the outside and flaky on the inside. Great and efficient service. Fantastic live music was also being played. Great experience overall!

4++ small coffee spot located in a strip mall in Cardiff. The place has a neighborhood favorite feel to it with beachy vibes probably emanating from the literal beach two blocks away. With her highly streamlined menu and quick and friendly service, this is a perfect spot to do a grab and go or to quickly enjoy your food here at the island counter where you can stand and soak everything in. I believe most if not all the coffees they do are pour overs and they only serve breakfast empanadas. Came here with my cousin a couple times now since she lives a brief walking distance from the spot. The coffee is great and the breakfast and empanadas are tasty. They give you Tapatio packets if you want an extra kick. This place is definitely a great spot for a small bite and your coffee fix.

Cute Cardiff by the sea beachside coffee shop. I has the mint mojito and was similar to Philz but less sweet, which is good, but I feel also less caffeine, which for me I'm a caffeine addict, but the drink tastes great. The girl serving me was helpful and while minor, the cup the drink is served in seems high quality for a disposable cup.

More of a coffee window than a coffee shop. Very limited indoor space with nowhere to sit inside. Service was quick and friendly. I had the the coffee mojito and it was pretty good, not as sweet as Phil'z. Not a huge menu but they have the basics and they make the coffee fast. Some pastries are available.

This is by far my favorite coffee. Not only that, but it's one of my favorite early morning hang out spots. This place sits perfectly in the neighborhood and has become a staple in Cardiff already. By far the best coffee in Cardiff. Located next to VG's donuts and across the street from the San Elijo campground Bump makes great coffee, tea, cold brew, fresh squeezed OJ and the most delicious Empanadas you have ever had. There were no precaution measures for COVID 19. The workers wear no masks. The menu is really limited and the coffee is not that great. So the risk is not even worth it. Aside from usual hand hygiene, to meet the requirements of public health measures-- face coverings MUST be worn. There is no way in these small quarters that you can maintain social distancing from what I can see and Individuals can still be asymptomatic. I can absolutely choose whether or not to be patron, which is why I am sharing why I chose not to come back. read more

Was super stoked to come drink some coffee that the significant other had been raving about. When you roll up no menu, cool bc guy brewing coffee was super chill and explained what they had to offer. Then we go to check out and get asked if we needed something else, at this point I forgot the list of empanadas available bc guess what I'm not caffeinated and there's no menu. Home girl seemed annoyed and at this point just came off as rude. Highlight: cool dude brewing coffee and that Serrano empanada is just so freaking delicious. Reminded me of the huevito with Chile I grew up eating that my mama made. Anything that reminds you of things your mama cooks are worth coming back for. Just wish there was a little less 'tude. read more

People were soooo nice. Husband's bold drip was good. I just prefer sweetener in my coffee... and I am diabetic... so to have the ONLY choice be agave was a bummer. I could not drink it... sad to say. Next time I need to bring my own! Love locally owned. (Cute t-shirts too) read more

There is no shortage of coffee shops in Encinitas/Cardiff but Bump stands out as the best. Their focus is phenomal pour over coffee & cold brew and they do it better than anyone around. This is not the place to go if you want your triple shot light foam soy latte served at a 117 degrees. You come here instead for perfectly roasted beans,precisely ground, resulting in a beatiful cup of pour over coffee. Trevor & Ryan are masters at their craft and are all around nice guys to converse with every morning. To those looking for other items besides coffee, the empandas are the perfect breakfast bite and my son loves their freshed squeezed OJ. I will continue to support Bump as they locally owned and serve one of the best cups of coffee I have had hands down. read more

Been here a few times after getting donuts next door and in general thought the coffee and service was pretty good. On our most recent visit, the pour-over looked and tasted equivalent to a weak tea. The water was poured so quickly that the grounds had no time to bloom and release any coffee goodness until she was ripping the filter out. At $4 for a small cup, I expect a little more love to be put into my coffee. read more

I started going to Bump back when they had their truck, and now it is a daily stop for me. Bump introduced me to a well-crafted poor over. What I like most about Bump, is that they are NOTHING like philz. They are unique, they are part of the community, they provide quality, they have found what works, and they do it well. Pour over coffee is really good. The empanadas were ok a bit more "bready" for my taste. Don't bother asking about the yelp check in because they already do that special and the guy at the counter sounded way confused when I tried to explain to him. No place really to hang just grab and go. Same lot as VG Donuts so you may have trouble parking because there's always a lot of people out their door. read more

This place is the best coffee shop in Cardiff. The people who work there are super nice and everything on their simple menu is excellent. I highly recommend the mojito ice coffee and mushroom empanada. They have a nice little outside bar that is covered by the overhang where you can sit and enjoy your coffee. I used to be a Starbucks guy, but after finding Bump it will be my new go to coffee spot in the morning before work! read more

Whether you're there for the pour overs, tea, fresh juice, empanadas, etc, it's the best way to start your day. The owners/employees have so much passion for what they do. They often go to source their own coffee from a variety of different countries so you know that the quality of the coffee is next-level and very intentional. The atmosphere and company is so welcoming that it feels like you're hanging out with friends- often times because you make friends while there. I couldn't have been happier when Bump opened less than a block from my house. Keep up the great work team! read more

Everyone behind the counter is always smiling and friendly. The empanadas are awesome! The slow drip coffee is also fantastic, according to my wife(I don't drink coffee). We always take our friends who come from out of town down there for breakfast and they all end up taking some empanadas to go on their way home. Keep doing what you are doing Bump! read more

So stoked to see these guys open their shop in Cardiff, their first of what I'm sure will be a few bricks and mortar. Nice clean aesthetic, friendly service, and phenomenal pour over coffee. If you haven't tried bump Coffee, give them a chance to win your business, you won't be disappointed. I spent a year in Australia and became a bit of a coffee snob, these guys have legitimate coffee, it really is that good! I'm a raving fan, these guys rule. read more

It's the total experience for good coffee as the guys that run the company are cool and knowledgeable about the coffee beans and roasting process. The java is always on point. Jah bless these dudes! Every time rolling through, butt crack of dawn, my nipples crisp with frost on a brisk January morning, these guys are out here with a great vibe mon. Smiles, good conversation, engaging, customer service. Oh and GREAT LION of BABYLON, their coffee is THE SHIT. In a good way, of course. Almost buttery, soothing the back of the tongue, and tickling the sleep out the corners of your eyes, Mmmm. Don't even get me started on their Cold Brew Mojito, while cracking my daily coffee budget, sometimes you got to TREAT YO SELF and get down on one of these $5 beverages. No ragrets. The only trick is tracking these guys down, I recommend a follow on instagram or something. You don't need to wax your mustache to also support the small business folks. read more

I love Bump! They're my favorite coffee stop on the way to work. Usually, they're parked in Cardiff on the coast. They roast their own beans and it's super good. The guys that work the truck are also super nice. Sometimes they even have free donuts! read more

I myself am from La Jolla so I'm not close in the area, but I stopped in today after a 15 year break and it was just as good as I remembered it. It was quite busy on December 26 in the morning and even though it was packed, our order was made very quickly. Parking is really easy because you can just park in the giant Seaside Market parking lot right across from the restaurant. The menu is not very large, they focus on breakfast burritos and small breakfast plates, such as eggs and pancakes, as well as offering a large coffee selection. Pricing is extremely fair and the portion sizes are very large. The breakfast burritos could easily be split between two people and they will even split the burrito for you if you ask them when you're ordering it. Today I chose the #1 Sausage Breakfast Burrito and really enjoyed it. I especially liked the avocado and egg combo and just loved the simple and hearty flavors. Overall, it's a really solid breakfast burrito spot in a really pretty part of San Diego. I love how close it is to the water, I appreciate the casual vibe, and I was really happy to see that it was just as good as it was when I was much younger. We recently found out the Chicken Fettuccine Al Pesto is the owners Italian mother's recipe. My youngest son enjoys getting this dish. My favorite breakfast dishes are the chicken and waffle, country fried steak and french toasts. They perfectly bread the chicken and the homemade country gravy it adds that extra goodness to the meal. I also love their fresh-pressed juices, and I usually request a plantation iced tea -- iced tea mixed with pineapple juice. So refreshing! The decor is adorable too. It has a cozy farmhouse café vibe that makes the whole place feel warm and inviting. And the bread pudding from Sunny Side is definitely worth mentioning. I usually don't like bread pudding, but this is far from ordinary. It's made with croissants and chocolate, drizzled with chocolate sauce, dusted with powdered sugar, served with raspberries, and strawberries. You have to add the ice cream...cause why not? Absolutely indulgent and perfect for sharing. Totally worth those extra calories! Overall, we'll definitely keep dining here. Surely they are masters at greasy bacon and eggs, day old coffee, and probably little else. Wrong. Very wrong. This place may look a little ordinary from the outside but there is nothing ordinary about it. It may look like a classic diner inside but it does not sling food like an old diner. The menu is well-written and the food is high quality, excellent, and borderline gourmet. Do not order eggs, bacon, and toast here. Swing for the cheap seats. We tried the Ham, Avocado and Tomato Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was fantastic. If I didn't care about remaining somewhere under 350 pounds, I would return every Saturday and eat my way through every single eggs benedict concoction on the menu and there are many such benedict creations from which to choose. The Banana Nutella crepe, with "whip" cream (not "whipped," apparently, we're gentle with our cream here, folks), was decadent. If you like your breakfasts on the sweet side, you will enjoy this one. The Tres Porkitos omelet (made with ham, bacon, sausage, and cheese) was hearty and just as good as it sounds. The breakfast potatoes were very nicely done but could have used a little more seasoning. There is a salt shaker (and numerous hot sauces) on the table for just these types of emergencies. Do NOT leave here without getting a freshly-made biscuit with butter and honey on the side. You have made a serious error in judgment if you leave without getting one of these. Even the freshly-squeezed orange juice was delicious. Our server was wonderful. No complaints. They have dining inside or on the patio. Encinitas is a delightful community. While I loved the old school diner feel inside, you cannot go wrong with the people watching outside on one of our almost always sunny days in So Cal. If you live here, you already pay the Sunshine Tax so get your money's worth and sit outside, if you can. 10 stars.

My family was vacationing in Encinitas and stumbled upon Claire's on Cedros on our first morning while searching for an early breakfast spot. Pancakes are usually not something I get excited about - I tend to think most restaurants use the same premade mixes from the same suppliers, resulting in pancakes that are ultimately forgettable. That changed the moment I tried a bite of the pancakes my daughter ordered. I was genuinely surprised to discover what may be some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Since then, Claire's has become a breakfast tradition whenever we're in the area. Buttermilk Pancakes (OG) - 5/5. These pancakes completely changed my expectations of what a pancake can be. What makes Claire's buttermilk pancakes stand out is their depth of flavor. They have a rich, buttery character and a subtle fermented tang that give them a distinctive personality. Add a little extra butter and real maple syrup, and the flavor reaches another level. The texture is equally impressive. Unlike many restaurant pancakes that are either soggy or overly dense, these strike a near-perfect balance. They hold their shape well while remaining tender and fluffy, with just the right amount of air pockets. They're substantial without being heavy and soft without falling apart. The finishing touch is a thin ring of golden-brown crispy edges that adds both texture and extra flavor to every bite. Seasonal Lemon Ricotta Pancakes - 4.5/5. Our server recommended the seasonal lemon ricotta pancakes, and I'm glad I gave them a try. They are every bit as well-executed as the original buttermilk pancakes, with a bright citrus flavor and a richer, creamier profile from the ricotta. While I still prefer the original buttermilk version for its subtle fermented tang, these are excellent in their own right and well worth ordering if they're available. Eggs Benedict with Crispy Parmesan Risotto & Honey-Cured Bacon - 4.5/5. Once I find a favorite dish, I have a habit of ordering it repeatedly - which was becoming a problem thanks to those buttermilk pancakes. On a return visit, I made a point of trying something different and was glad I did. The standout pairing here is the crispy hash browns. This is one of those dishes where the individual components really shine when eaten together. Combining the arugula, poached egg, hollandaise sauce, and crispy hash browns creates a wonderfully balanced bite. The hash browns contribute crunch, the egg and hollandaise provide rich creaminess, and the arugula adds freshness and brightness that keeps everything from feeling too heavy. It's a thoughtfully composed dish that delivers both flavor and texture. Drinks - okay. The juices, teas, and coffee were perfectly fine - nothing remarkable, but nothing to complain about either. They do their job and complement the food well. Here are my final Thoughts. I'm so glad we discovered Claire's on Cedros. It has given me a new benchmark for what great pancakes should taste like. Even as someone who never considered pancakes a favorite breakfast item, I find myself thinking about them long after the meal is over. If we're back in Encinitas or Solana Beach, Claire's will be one of our first stops. The pancakes alone are worth the visit.

Decades later, our cousins drive them 3 hours to Los Angeles like precious cargo for the family to enjoy when they come to visit. A donut. 3 hours in a car. Still incredible. Some things are just built different. Our cousins are hero's! Only one complaint, they are not open late, which is truly a crime against everyone with late night munchies and poor decision making skills. The world needs VG Donuts at midnight. Super weird experience. The 1 star is NOT for the coffee which unfortunately I was unable to taste. The 1 star is for terrible customer service. Saturday, busy & beautiful day with lots of people out and about in this adorable beach town. We yelp for coffee and Bump comes up. My daughter & I meander over to find said coffee shop. Yelp assures us it's open. We call to make sure. Guy answers says "yeah" when we ask so we proceed. Arrive 3 minutes later. Place is dark. Door locked. No sign of human activity. Hmmmm. Well, my coffee was pretty good, but the owner shamed a customer and she was shaken up. Seemed she was going to cry, but she kept composure. I won't be coming back to this place. Later outside I talked with the woman, who in my opinion was in the right, and told her about other local coffee shops. A few days ago I ran into her at a coffee cafe (which I won't name here) and we sat together and chatted. Happy ending, the Bump owner's meanness turned out to be as blessing in disguised as I made a new friend! read more
