Called in a pick up order during lunch time. There was no wait when I arrived and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the Sloppy Cubano with a side of the croquetas. The meat was delicious and the bread was super fluffy, my only complaint is that it was a bit too buttery for my liking. The croquetas were flavorful, the sauces it came with really stole the show!

**editing to add my husband and I shared all of this and had leftovers, decent portions*** Plenty parking, courtyard with plenty of seating outdoors. No indoor seating. It's SoCal, enjoy the weather. This restaurant has great workers! From my understanding the owners are the workers. They respect the Cuban cuisine. Friendly and welcoming and they live up to their 5 star Yelp ratings. Oh and complimentary water available at counter or cans/bottles of various drinks for purchase. Ropa Vieja Plate is perfection! Added avocado and extra fried Maduros Sweet Plantains. Totally getting this again next time. See photos for more info. Do yourself a solid and visit this place. You'll wanna try everything on the menu.

Phenomenal food, tastes like it was made with a lot of love!! My grilled chicken plate was a ton of food and the plantains were my favorite. Will definitely be back very soon!!

Good yelp find. Damn fine Cuban sandwich. Just a counter to order from and outside seating. Made fresh and hot. Delicious.

Second time here this time I got the Cuban sandwich. In a word...delicious. Hand sliced pork roast and ham really make this sandwich. Needs more mustard though but no big deal. Thank you!

I ordered the chicken breast and shrimp bowl which says it typically comes served over a bed of seasoned rice with red & green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and topped with a light dressing. I asked for no butter or cheese because I'm deathly allergic. Maybe they sauté the veggies in butter? Maybe the seasoned rice along with the dressing contains milk? If it did they didn't tell me. My order contained chicken, shrimp, black beans, and white rice. It felt healthy and filling which I appreciated, but also wasn't what I was expecting. Big thing is I didn't get sick while eating which is a huge win.

Love the authenticity of the food here, great customer service and it is conveniently located next to my favorite barbershop, Steez Fine Barbering

We drove over from Escondido when I found out there was authentic Cuban food just a short drive away. I grew up in Miami, and my grandparents lived in Little Havana so I loved Cuban dishes. Living in San Diego, it is very difficult to find excellent places for Cuban dishes. The owners/staff are so friendly and nice. The food is even better! Every bite of my Ropa Vieja had me closing my eyes to savor the flavors. And the maduros....OMG Yum! My husband said his was the perfect Cuban sandwich-no skimping on the meat or overstuffing. He doesn't usually like a lot of dough or breading, and he thought the empanada was perfect! I agree-done just right, not overcooked in one single spot. We would recommend this a hundred times over and we will be back to try other dishes. But that's going to be hard because I really love my Ropa Vieja...

Hard to find a new sandwich spot that isn't Subway or a chain. This hit the spot. Big parking lot and easy service with a really different and big meaty sandwich with a sauce that makes it.

We arrived 15 minutes before they started closing and they were kind enough to take our order, and they didn't rush us. We just wanted something light and we ordered the Empanada and Maduros Sweet Plantains. The Maduros Sweet Plantains come in two pieces, tender and ripe. The Empanada was not dry, savory, crispy, and hit the spot. I enjoyed both items we ordered and I like that they are served fresh and came out fast. They are a takeaway/food court, they have service water available and the place looks clean and new. and it is our first time here. I would definitely love to come back and try their entrees.

Been craving their Picadillo!! Anyone know where they can be found when?? ( i know i can always call)

They now have a restaurant stand at 5806 Van Allen Way, Carlsbad, CA 92008

    Where do they park?

They were usually parked at Rutherford and Farnsworth and still were the first month of quarantine. Although now that most offices in the area are closed, they could have moved to a higher traffic location.

Everything is flavorful and satisfying, and I usually order it to go. The only downside is the price. It's always been on the expensive side, but seeing one oxtail plate go up to $31 (+tax) makes it hard to justify coming here as often as I used to. The quality is still there, but the higher price means it'll probably be more of once a year meal. One thing to be aware of is that there's a surcharge even when paying with a debit card. Legally you're not supposed to add a charge when using debit card but I paid it anyways. It was an unexpected charge that other customers may want to know about. Ambience was okay. Service was nice. Overall, the food is delicious and worth trying, but between the rising prices and the added card surcharge, I'll likely be visiting once in a blue moon.

Valet only and if dining at the restaurant $10. It wasn't busy at all inside but all the outdoor seating was occupied. We were able to sit by the windows which still had a nice view of the coast. No lunch menu just brunch. One of my friends who is a regular here let us know that aside from the hamburgers, the rest is "European Style" which equates to smaller portions. I experienced that the first time I had gone. We ordered Batiquitos Bowls and a Traditional Benedict. The food came out in a timely manner and was good. Both times I've gone, the experience was alright but lacking. Being a local, it's hard to justify dining at this place just for the views. For me, it wasn't worth paying higher prices for average food and paying for parking.

I visit Havana Grill whenever I want some tasty oxtail.  I noticed oxtail was one of the specials.  Last time I visited the oxtail was on the regular menu and you could order it anytime. Oxtail was extremely tender and juicy.  The mix of beef flavor and the spices in the sauce were delicious.  This is my favorite oxtail dish in town. French fries were crisp and had a delicious fried flavor.  The oil was fresh and there was no aftertaste.  Excellent fries. Pineapple upside down cake was dense and did not have a fresh baked aura.  The outside part was starting to harden like it was getting stale so I guess it was baked at least a day ago.  Cake had a mostly mild flavor.  I didn't taste the pineapple though the top was lined with it.  I did taste a ton of ginger flavor.  It appears pieces of ginger were mixed in with the pineapple.  I love ginger as part of soy/ginger seasoning for fish but not in a cake.  This is one of the worst pineapple upside down cakes I have had.  My favorite is at Roy's where you have to give them 30 minute notice and they bake it to order.  Roy's version was piping hot out of the oven, was moist and fluffy, with amazing pineapple flavor. Staff provided fast and friendly service.

Whether you're grabbing a coffee and guava pastry after a day of shopping or planning your next large event, I highly recommend Havana Grill. It's sure to taste good and be a crowd pleaser. To start, the food was amazing. The owner, Sandra, helped me plan a menu that would be satisfying and popular with all of the guests, but also within my budget. We settled on chafing dishes with arroz con pollo, frijoles negros, rice, lechón, ropa vieja, croquetas, plátanos maduros, and Cesar salad, and guests were able to add beverages, deserts, and any special dietary requests. Everything was a HIT. A week later, I'm still hearing how wonderful the food was-- even from guests with food restrictions and a relative who runs her own Cuban food business in another state! The atmosphere was perfect and the service was impeccable. Sandra, her Operations Manager (Markley), and the staff were fantastic to work with on the planning and preparation, as well as on the day of the event. The restaurant music and decor is already warm and inviting with an indoor tree, high ceilings, and a large dining area, so not much was needed to make it festive. Still, I wanted to place some photographs and memorabilia around the various tables to personalize it. The staff made it super easy to drop things off the night before, taking steps to communicate with each other and make sure nothing got lost. The next day, I arrived to see that they had set it up beautifully-- even adding flowers at each table. On the day of the event, service team (including Bree, Ramon) were attentive and friendly. We were treated like family, and it was wonderful. Havana Grill really knocked it out of the park for me and my family. So on a visit to San Diego, since I no longer live there, Havana Grill was on the top of my dining list. The sampler plate had everything from their appetizer menu. The Giant Papa Rellena is a sight to behold! A fried potato dumpling with delicious beef filling inside but in XXL size, it is a definite shareable for the table. Yuca fries were freshly made and perfectly tender inside with a crispy exterior. Tostones were also freshly made, tender and crispy. Ham croquettes had a good smoky ham flavor. Mariquitas and the plantains were equally well prepared. The appetizer plate came with their delicious mojo de ajo sauce for dipping. Their Lechon is still the best that I have ever had so I ordered that. It was tender, very flavorful, and came with black beans, rice, and plantains. I always order extra portions of their mojo de ajo to accompany my meal. The Lechon was, as always, very delicious. For dessert, I tried the Cuban Coffee Tres Leches cake. This was light in texture and not too sweet. The cake was soft and moist. There was a some coffee flavor but that could have been stronger for me. Nevertheless, this was a delicious ending to a very fine meal. Staff were efficient and friendly. I like the dine in format at this restaurant. The dining room is bright and airy with high ceilings. Very comfortable seating. Parking is plentiful in the adjoining lot but may be difficult depending on the time of day.
