I ordered takeout from here last night. The signage to see where the takeout orders were was a little confusing, it's in a corner of the restaurant, not by the door. I got the 3 for $13 bao buns and the tater tots with miso ranch. The tater tots were good, but they didn't taste any different than normal tater tots. The ranch had a slight miso taste, but there wasn't much per serving. However, for 4 dollars, you get quite a bit of tater tots, so I appreciated that. I got the two fried chicken buns and the pork belly bun. They were all good, but the sweet fried chicken bun really stood out. In the future I would forgo the pork belly bun for more of the sweet fried chicken buns. read more

Great option for a cheaper eat. They've got a large assortment of open faced buns including specialty versions like soft shell crab. Loved the optionality to pick and choose. You can also get any flavor in a rice bowl option. My partner and I opted for the 3 buns for $13 deal and tried the bulgogi, spicy fried chicken, miso chicken, sweet soy fried chicken, and the mushroom. Initial Impression: the buns are so much smaller than expected. About the size of a palm. I got the fried shrimp(+$0.50) and pork belly buns for around $10. They were both delicious! The shrimp was crunchy on the outside and the shrimp sizes were substantial so you can get a nice full bite. The fried onions sprinkled on top also added a lot of texture which elevated the taste. The shrimp aftertaste is light. won't feel heavy after eating. The pork belly was amazing and I liked it more than the shrimp just based off personal preference. But the bun for the pork belly got quite soggy so it was hard to hold and eat. Final Verdict: I really liked it and I highly recommend! If you're hungry definitely get 3 buns because they're small. read more

Sometimes I have a Bao bun craving. When I do this is the place I go to since it's the closest one to me in the area. I would give them 5 out of 5 but sometimes they add way too much sauce. On one occasion when I ordered their chicken sandwich the bottom bun was stale and part of it was hard as a rock. I was super hungry and didn't want to drive back and wait for a new one to be made and then drive back. So I just used a slice of bread I had in the kitchen. Annoying and I'm not sure how they didn't notice when making my sandwich. Taste is great though. read more

4.5 stars. This Pentagon Row shop (first on the right if you're coming from the mall/parking garage) is clearly still working out the kinks, but it has a lot going for it. The shop specialized in hand buns and rice bowls. I opted for the three bun sampler with Korean beef, mushroom, and spicy fried chicken buns. The Korean beef was flavorful and i appreciated the contrast of the crispy pickles. The mushroom was a little bland - it mostly tasted like, well, mushrooms, and had only one texture. The spicy fried chicken was my favorite. The chicken was genuinely crispy and the sauce was complex and spicy. There's plenty of seating available in the large space. We waited a bit longer for our food than I expect for a place where you order at the counter, but it was all really tasty, so I'd definitely come back if I was in the area. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat after a conference. I've been to the Sparrow Room, so I knew I'd like the food here since I enjoyed that the last time. The chicken nuggets were fantastic. I loved the sauce that came with it. Not too spicy and had a good kick. I went with three buns for my main meal. I did a bulgogi, shrimp, and chicken. The bulgogi ended up being my least favorite of the three. It was salty and didn't taste fresh, but it wasn't terrible. The buns were cooked perfectly and the toppings on each bun were delicious as well. Everything paired well with the meat. We also ordered a pork bao bun and it was delicious. We had to order a new one because someone was playing ping pong behind us and the ball flew from the table into our food dish that the bun was in. The staff was super nice and understanding about replacing it, but maybe move the tables so they're not near the ping pong game? Haha. I love the interior design of this place. The neon signs and wall lined with soju and other snacks give it the perfect aesthetic. It's quiet in here, and the service is top notch. You can't go wrong by visiting this place. I've never had a bad meal here and look forward to returning to this little spot the next time I'm on this side of town. read more

I ordered lunch via Uber Eats on Monday(July 22, 2024), and upon pick-up of the "completed order" I realized the restaurant was/is actually CLOSED on Monday's! Evidently, the restaurant did not inform Uber Eats that they are closed on Monday's; hence, the online Uber Eats ordering service was STILL available....ugh (wtf) I followed up with Uber Eats & was informed, since I did not report this incident within "48hrs," they could not compensate me.... (Another story) P.s. I spoke to manager(owner) on Wed and he informed me to "contact Uber Eats.." He did not make any effort to rectify issue; however, he did apologize... Restaurant was paid $25.19 for an order they DID NOT fulfill!) Unprofessional management & a lack of customer service and attention to detail contributed to this unethical transaction...I wonder, how many other customers have experienced "Monday" FRAUDULENT sales with "Bun'd-Up" in Pentagon City? Delicious Baos!! I tried more than what I am posting but all of them are delicious! This is my third time visiting this place! Place is very nice to just hangout and service is great! Clean place and easy to order! Their bundles are great!! I tried about five to Six of the baos now and when I go always ordering mushroom after first time. I don't know what it is it's just SO good!! Their tater tots are so crispy!! You have to try their Brussels sprouts!! I normally don't like that veggie but the way they cook here I was keep munching on it! Staffs are friendly as well!! I love bao and was really excited to try this place. The bao shells were well cooked, right amount of smooshy chew. We ordered: bulgogi bao: the amount of protein here was good but I wasn't in love with the flavor, i think the meat was a tad dry spicy chicken bao: not a fan. it's friend chicken with more breading than meat regular chicken bao: see above ribs: i would have liked these a little better if there was some charing but the sauce was great (lots of birds eye chilis, v spicy, beware!) loaded tots: these were GREAT. crispy tots, and loaded with meat. Thank God there is only 5 choices of Bao to choose from because all of them are amazing. We came here for a mid morning snack the last time we came into DC and I've been thinking about them ever since. The restaurant is kinda dark but very open to the outdoors. With covid it isn't the most inviting atmosphere but we aren't eating in anyways so it doesn't matter so much. There were a couple benches right outside with umbrellas so if you want to eat there, you have that option. We ordered all the choices but one of their bao menu and everything was amazing! I don't know if the short rib or the chicken was my favorite...they were equally matched. My favorite part was the fact that they make their steamed buns in house (I just find that to be more than impressive). Zero stars for service because it's non-existent. When you come in, expect no one to be at the counter or a wait staff to greet you. You sit at the table and scan the QR code. You'll have no idea if the order actually went through or not because no one will acknowledge you. You're also required to leave a tip upfront which is also a bit odd and ridiculous without even seeing someone work there. 30 minutes later and employee will bring you food and drop a tray at your table and walk away. Bulgogi was extremely over salted and the buns were cold and not good. They may look good in pictures but the soy chicken bun was hard like a rock and the chicken tasted like it was fried a day earlier and old. I'm extremely disappointed with the food and the service. I am usually known to be a fusion food hater. However, Bun'd Up does fusion fantastically. Bun'd Up is everything fusion food makers should strive to become. I thought I tasted a hint of fruit in the kimchi atop the pork belly but I could be wrong. It had an interesting flavor that I enjoyed, though I preferred the cucumber atop the bulgogi. My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new and were surprised to see a Bun'd Up had opened in Pentagon Row. The space is optimal as Pentagon Row is a great place to go to hang out with friends and hang out and the Bun'd Up is right in the middle of the row of restaurants there. I got the fried chicken sandwich and the Brussels sprouts and my boyfriend had the fried rice with chicken. Both of the entrees were great - I'm not usually one for Asian fusion but I thought the combination with southern-style food was great and well-paired. The Brussels sprouts were phenomenal definitely recommend trying! We'd like to go back sometime to try their BBQ entrees and, when things are more open, also think it'd be a great, picturesque spot to drink with friends. Definitely worth a try! read more

I would give this place zero stars but yelp made me give it something. Placed 3 separate orders, 2 of them were stuffed in the same container (which couldn't be eaten due to one person having allergies to items in the other order) and they added mayo when the ticket said no mayo. After someone came out from the kitchen and was made aware of the mistake she gave me attitude said ok, walked back to the kitchen and never came back. It took a good 25-30 minutes of waiting and then asking in order to get the one order corrected when it was literally 3 small pieces of chicken, some scallion and poorly pickled onion. The girl behind the counter was uninviting and seemed bothered when asked a question. Not only that, but she was prepping food at the front counter with gloves on then handling customers orders without taking off the gloves or changing them when going back to prepping. Everything was amazing! I got the Korean fried chicken rice bowl in spicy, great flavor and crispy chicken, and a huge portion. I also tried the fried shrimp bao, the flavor of the shrimp was really good and the bao buns were perfect. My husband tried the pork belly and Korean beef and loved both. Everything was extremely fresh, we came for lunch and the food came in no time. The staff was all very friendly and told us they would be extending their menu and hours soon.
