Bundoo Khan is hands down one of the best South Asian-style barbecue restaurants in the Bay Area. My wife and I had wanted to try it for ages, and we finally got an opportunity for a midweek lunch. The place is spacious and clean, and somehow has an American diner feel to it. The menu is limited but interesting, with the meat clearly being the main focus. There are hardly any options for vegetarians. In fact, my wife tried the only veggie option on the menu, the Bun Kabob (veg). It was fantastic: a crispy potato patty inside a soft bun with a spicy sauce. I went all out on the meat just by myself. I tried the Signature Chicken Tikka Roll (spicy), the Chicken Tikka (Bihari) leg, and the Chicken Gola Kebab. Everything was excellent. The gola kebab is melt-in-your-mouth soft. The roll was tasty, but pretty oily, so next time I will probably just go with naan. The Bihari chicken tikka was also unique, garlic-forward but delicious. The service was relatively quick. I was told that every entree comes with salad of tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. I asked for a double portion of salad. I also ordered plain naan. The fish was good. I had been told it was spicy, but I did not think it was spicy at all. It was accompanied by a few slices of tomato, onion, and cucumbers. The naan was warm and comforting. Ok meat lovers - this is the spot for some of the best kebabs you can get in the Bay Area. Their story says that they started as a little cart in Karachi, and have been expanding since then. This may be one of their first locations in the U.S. I am sure glad they picked the Bay Area for it. Come here for the wide variety of kebabs they offer. There is probably nothing with gravy on the menu, nor is this a good place for a vegetarian. So if you are looking for that, go elsewhere. Their bun-andaa is to die for. The simplest of things yet perfectly done. Reminded me of the street stalls serving eggs on toast on cold winter nights in Delhi. The lamb chops melt in your mouth - and it's a pretty decent sized helping, that's ways to share. The food tends to be on the spicier side, so be sure you can handle it. I would stay away from the wraps - they are just a bit too oily for my taste. The service is fast. Pretty much self service with a wide open kitchen showing where the grilling happens. And the naan...They definitely didn't skimp on the garlic - loved it as it came out freshly made Ordering is simple: either via the kiosks or with the cashier. You are given a buzzer to return to that area to pick up your food when ready. Each order is made to order so expect at least a 10 minute wait, especially for the bbq'd meats. After the meal, we both had chai tea. $2/cup, self serve, next to the soda machines around the left side. Plenty of parking here. The restaurant is quite big inside with plenty of tables. There's a private dining room in the back. Clean and organized. The main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the pricing, which feels a little high for the portion sizes and overall value. The food was well prepared, the place was nice, and no complaints about the service, thus 4 stars. But personally, I wasn't a big fan of the food. It was all quite dry (and maybe that's how it's supposed to be??) What we ordered: + Beef Bihari Boti - this had an odd texture, kinda like pate when you press you fork on it. Besides the texture, I didn't care for the taste -- reminded me of liver. + Grilled fish - this was quite good. It had good seasoning and wasn't dry. + Chicken Boti - this was seasoned well, but oh so dry. + Basmati rice - dry + Naan - unlike most naan I've tried, which were a little fluffy, this naan was very flat with no leavening. The chicken boti was pretty good too but I found myself not the biggest fan of the mushy yogurt coating around the chicken. Otherwise it was really tender and cooked well. We had a family lunch at this restaurant this last weekend. We tried to order out but the whole experience was very weird. The lady on the call was at some customer care and had no idea whether you can get a hot sauce on the side or not. I didn't place the order online as I couldn't trust the whole experience. I decided to give this place a try since it's right next to my bank. I always like to support local, mom-and-pop spots and was hopeful for a good experience. A few things to note: there are no combo meals -- you have to order everything individually. I went with the grilled chicken tikka thigh ($8), a side of rice ($2), and garlic naan ($3). Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to my expectations. The rice lacked the flavor I'm used to from other Indian restaurants, and the chicken tasted more like plain grilled spicy chicken than proper tikka. I had the pleasure of visiting Bundoo Khan over the weekend, and it did not miss! I ordered the malai boti and chicken boti -- both were cooked perfectly. The malai boti was tender and melted apart effortlessly, and the chicken boti had that perfect char and flavor. We also ordered the kids' meal with chicken strips and fries -- and wow, they give a generous portion of fries! One thing I absolutely loved was the Raita dispenser -- genius idea! Straight outta Karachi and into my belly! Bundoo khan is a meat lovers paradise and there are so many variants along with breads to go along with it so it's best to come with a larger group and try out a bunch of things. We got the chicken boti kebab roll and a Bihari gola kebab. The roti on the roll resembled a poori and was delicious (made me wonder why we don't use poori more in indian cuisine) and the gola kebab had "soft" meat that melted in your mouth - the texture is similar to what I've seen called as galouti kebab in indian restaurants. The chai was also creamy and delicious! Wish we had this closer to us in SF but we'll definitely be back the next time we're in East Bay. read more

A great spot serving delicious menu items directly from the menu at Bundoo Khan in Pakistan, a place I have been to. The pricing is reasonable with individual kebab rolls being about $12. The menu is limited, however each item is prepared when ordered and is very fresh. The kebabs are being grilled right before us. This place is open late, which is why I tried it out. Upon entering, you'll find stanchions that lead you to two self service kiosks, but you can also just talk with the cashier person at the front. The vibe was nice - everyone in there seemed to be enjoying themselves. We ordered the mango lassi, falooda, lamb chops, masala fries and the beef burger. Taste-wise, everything was ASTOUNDING. The lamb chops were especially good, the seasoning was *chef's kiss* - it was spicy (as in, it had spices) and a little spicy (in terms of heat). I loved it. The falooda was a new experience for me. I was curious because it had vermicelli in it, and I was pleasantly surprised that it just reminded me of jello, or something similar to that texture in this dessert. It's almost like halo-halo, but not. 5 stars because I appreciate a restaurant that has their sauces on one of those see-through drink dispensers (think pink lemonade at in-n-out) and to-go containers and bags out and ready for you to just grab when you need it. Anyways I used the touch screen kiosks pretty simple there are super helpful pics of the food . The chicken was the cheapest and the most tasty. The naan was dripping with butter and it was soft and a little crunchy at the same time . The beef kabobs weee thin and short I would order lamb chops next time. Huge place and still looks brand relatively new. I don't have to review any customer service because I didn't need to talk to anyone . This is my new favorite place in Fremont. Randomly walked into this place on a Friday evening and it was packed, in spite of how huge the place is. Lots of seating space. There was a considerable wait time and the dishes are cooked to order. But it's worth the wait. I loved it so much that I had to go back the next week on a weekday. One of the common complaints I have with Asian restaurants in Fremont is the consistency of quality. They are great on weekends but abysmal on weekdays. But, not this place.
