The bartender was very attentive and friendly and the drinks were good! My only complaint is ambiance, the place feels a little dead. We then ordered takeout from them. Everything was delicious! Smoking Pig was a spot that I always see when I drive by so today's the day that I decided to give it a try. Coming in, you can see that the restaurant's got some age in it. The front has a little store front which sells items with the Smoking Pig brand in them. I always like seeing little store like these inside restaurants so I was pretty happy to stroll around before getting seated. The restaurant wasn't too busy, I would say it was about 40% filled and we were lead quickly to a booth of our choice. We ordered: Beef Brisket Meal (Fries & Cornbread) - 4 out of 5 I got the half fat and half lean type of meat. The beef was pretty well made. I was a little worried at first from the reviews I read but they turned out fairly tender and I enjoyed them. The fries and cornbread were alright. The combined portion seemed to be on a smaller side so I was a little bummed. 2 Meat Combo (Chicken Leg, Pulled pork, Coleslaw, Cornbread) - 4 out of 5 The pulled pork was a little dry for my liking but the chicken leg was pretty good. Both of these protein were on a lighter side in marination, but thank goodness that they had a few unique sauces for us to dip them in. They compliment the meat pretty good so the sauces saved the day. The coleslaw and cornbread were decent but it's probably something you've had elsewhere. Service - 4 out of 5 Since the restaurant were 40% full and it was quite big, it did take our waiter and waitress a little longer to come at times. They can see that we waited patiently and apologized for coming late. That was a good gesture so we still tipped them decently. All in all, Smoking Pig BBQ is a place I would say that you want to utilize dipping their sauces with your meat in. If you're expecting the meat to just taste wonderful, it'll end up being a little on the lighter side. Not exactly what you would imagine in a BBQ joint. Give the sauces and dip a try! I was hesitant to come here due to the 3/5 star reviews but we were in the area after a doctor's appointment and decided to give it a shot since we were in the mood for BBQ. Pork Spareribs, Angus Beef Brisket, Mac N Cheese, and Cornbread b.) Pulled Pork, Angus Beef Brisket, Potato Salad, and Cornbread HIGHLY Recommend getting the Angus Beef Brisket in the FATTY selection rather than Lean/Mixed. The fatty version of it was perfect and so tender while the lean was a bit dry. The Pulled Pork was very soft and flavorful and would highly recommend this at all. All the sides (Mac N Cheese, Potato Salad, Cornbread) were so good as well with good portion sizes. I would skip the Pork Spareribs as I didn't find it very good. 3.) Restaurant itself is humongous with tons of seating and a lot of places to roam. My toddler was able to walk around after eating and explore without causing too much ruckus which I always appreciate. Man, it's been a long time since I've been here. Came for lunch on a Thursday, during a pretty slow time. Server was sweet yet she didn't really know anything about the menu items, and never refilled our drinks. She was cleaning the entire time, so not like she wasn't doing anything but by the end of our very disappointing meal, I was chewing on the ice in my empty drink cup trying to hydrate. Both my husband and I ordered the burnt ends plate. They seem to be a pretty popular item and I notice they upcharge for them on certain plates. These burnt ends were TERRIBLE on both our plates. They were so tough and dry, and were so hard to chew through that I couldn't really eat more than 1/2 of what was on my plate. My cornbread was super dry too, the dollop of butter that was on top didn't do much justice. Greens were the best thing on the plate.. but lacked serious flavor. At least the salt & pepper on the table helped with those. Our tab was around $60 for two plates, an unsweetened iced tea & a sprite (that were never refilled) and it pained me to pay for food to literally be thrown away because it was inedible. Coming from someone who works in the food service industry, that hurt. It's a shame because I remember this place being so good and I wanted to really enjoy my experience again. Maybe the kitchen had an off day and rushed the process on the burnt ends.. I don't know. But they should really test them out before sending them out in the future. The bar manager drew is ON IT! I've been coming to the pig for years and the vibe was never as welcoming as it is now. From the moment you walk in the door you feel right at home . I came in during the dinner time and drew helped me pick a good dish , recommend and made a muchhhh needed drink . Daughter wanted bbq so we came in. I noticed right away the place was very clean. Not very loud inside and plenty of TV's with games on. I thought the staff were very nice and made us feel welcome. I don't normally write bad reviews, but this meal and experience were absolutely not worth the price we paid. We arrived around 4:00 PM on a Saturday and were immediately greeted by grass and trash on the floor right as we walked through the entrance. Someone told us to "sit anywhere," which should have been easy since there were only three other tables with guests. There was one staff member behind the bar (with no guests sitting there) and three other staff members just standing around talking to each other by the bar area. Despite the place being nearly empty, it took about five minutes just to get menus, and then over 15 minutes for our order to finally be taken. Honestly, it took so long that we were literally on our phones looking up somewhere else to go eat. It looked like they only had one waitress actually working the tables. When she did serve us, she got our order wrong, and we never once got drink refills. She was very friendly though. As for the food: we ordered the brisket with Mac and cheese and fries. The fries were actually good--hot and crispy. The Mac and cheese was just okay, but it had mysterious chunks of meat in it that weren't mentioned anywhere on the menu, so we had to eat around them not knowing what they were. The brisket arrived hot, but it was incredibly dry, tough, and didn't have much flavor at all. Overall, the whole place just felt completely uncared for. The sauce bottles on the table were so old that the labels were worn off, the floors and tables were sticky, and there was random stuff stacked up in corners. We ordered a half rack of pork spare ribs with rice as a side and fatty brisket with beans as a side. We felt the pork ribs taste okay only, it didn't impress us at all with the smoked flavor. Our group of four came here for lunch today and had a terrific time. Two of us had the premium combo, which includes two ribs and your choice of second meat and a side. I chose the brisket. You had a choice of fatty brisket, lean brisket, or a mix. I chose the lean brisket and my BF chose the mix. The fatty brisket wasn't all that fatty either. There were two large ribs and fell off the bone. They were cooked perfectly; however, I wish there was actually more seasoning on the rib. They really didn't have a lot of flavor outside of the barbecue sauce sauces that were offered on the table. Don't get me wrong, those sauces were outstanding, but sometimes I don't like sauce. I just like to eat the rib on its own, and I just think it needed some more seasoning or dry rub. One of my favorite sides was the beans. It was so flavorful and had bits of meat in it. I ended up ordering some items to bring home for the next couple days. I got the potato skins and the burnt ends. I snuck a few burnt ends in and they were so good. The cornbread is clearly homemade and very delicious. But really what was outstanding at this location was the customer service. The guys there were so friendly and courteous and patient with our group. And they were very thankful that our group had dined at the establishment, which I really appreciate because we could've gone to a numerous other places. Never going back ever again!! The staff is incapable of reading orders. The same thing has happened twice in the last month. After not eating here for over 9 years because of horrible service and lame music, I ordered a specific brisket sandwich plain with just mayonnaise and they put BBQ sauce on it...both times! The first time the manager I believe Drew was very apologetic and offered me the same meal for free to just call in and he would have my info written down in case he wasn't working that day. I went back a week later and they honored the meal even though Drew wasn't in that day. When they made the 2nd mistake over a week ago Drew said the same thing and apologized again that this happened again and asked how he could make it right. I just said the next time I call in again I want to be able to call and get my exact meal at no charge just like last time. He said absolutely and that he wound even email me some more Smoking Pig perks.( I never received the email) He said he appreciated me informing him of the errors as he has new staff and they keep having errors. Might be time for new staff. I called today to order my sandwich (that they owed) and Drew wasn't working today and the staff said they had to put me on hold only for me to hear Chad a worker say to someone " this guys calling in saying he's owed a sandwich" I guess he thought he put me on hold but I could hear everything. They kept me on hold for 5 minutes and then said they won't be able to honor my order because Drew wasn't working. When I said that's Bullshit, Chad a worker got upset and said you don't need to cuss at me and handed the phone to a manager. When the manager introduced himself I told him that this was the second time that this has happened and that Drew said that I can come and grab my meal whenever and that he would have something written down in case he wasn't working that day. I told the manager your establishment inconvenienced me over a week ago because of your incompetent staff. I paid for something I wouldn't eat. As soon as I finished talking the manager says "if you'd shut your mouth and listen". I have never had them before, but from what I have heard, greens are pretty good and the southern greens from here were lacking flavor. Not much going on, but I didn't knock it, considering me not knowing how they usually taste. The cornbread at first glance looked a little overcooked & once I had taken a bite, it definitely was. It was dry. The cornbread had some flavor, but it wasn't the best. It could have been worse. It came with the sweet butter but it didn't really help, due to the butter mixture lacking flavor, as well. The chicken was disappointing. Chicken leg quarters are almost always juicy, considering it's the dark meat portion of the chicken, but even that was tough and dry. Not only was it tough and dry, but again, lacked flavor. It didn't taste bad, but definitely needed more flavor. It was bland. Luckily, I was a fan of their California Honey BBQ sauce that they had bottled on the table, which saved it a bit with flavor, but even that didn't fix the moisture content & the consistency of the meat. Lastly, the pulled pork was okay. Flavor still lacking just a tad, but with the sauce, I absolutely devoured it! The pulled pork passed! Unfortunately, that's really the only thing I enjoyed from my $20 tray. Not only that the food was below average, but the service was.. weird. As I had stated earlier, the bartender seated us, then grabbed a couple drinks and a fry. He never came back since we had an actual waitress, which is understandable. The bartender was very helpful! The waitress never came back after the food was out, though. The next time we saw her at our table was when we were visibly ready for the bill. Fortunately, another waiter, was flagged down and he was very helpful, too! He helped us out with refills and checked to see if we needed anything else. I can't say it was the worst service because it was saved by the bartender at the beginning of the time we were there and the other server who helped later on. As far as the food, not so good. I ordered the premium platter with ribs, burnt ends, cornbread and mac n cheese. The ribs were probably the only thing i liked. It had a good flavor to it and fell right off the bone. As for the rest, wasnt a fan. Mac n cheese was soupy and noodles were so soft it practically melted in your mouth. Burnt ends had a lot of fat on it and was very oily. Cornbread tasted like it was prob sitting out for a while. We also ordered the mac n cheese balls as an appetizer and it came with a honey mustard sauce. The sauce wasnt the best. But the mac n cheese balls itself were ok. Just stop by to get some pick up and I was greeted by Drew as soon as I walked in. Amazing hospitality, the bar was packed with Niner fans unfortunately lol but everyone seemed like they were having a great time. Oh yeah, the food was really tasty as well.
