We got the premium set and was under the impression that the premium cuts would be worth our money, except it wasn't. So much marbling but tough to chew and get down. The meat selection was also very limited even though we got the extended set. We tried the meat plain before marinade to see which cut we liked and we honestly did not like majority of them besides the wagyu brisket. Our server did a wonderful job serving us, however, we felt conflicted when we wanted to tip because we enjoyed our experience with the service but not the AYCE experience itself. The short rib here was really, really good, and the bone marrow was solid as well. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was pretty disappointing and fell below average for Korean BBQ. The main issue was the meat selection and prep. All of the brisket options were extremely lean with virtually no fat on them, and they were cut too thick. The pork belly was also a letdown, as the texture and consistency just weren't where they needed to be. While those initial two cuts hit the mark, the lack of quality across the rest of the meat makes it hard to give a higher rating. read more

When we arrived on a Monday afternoon, we were less than thrilled that we had missed the lunch prices by 10 minutes, but that was completely our fault for not checking. There seemed to be only one server and approximately 5 tables there when we arrived, so it took a little bit to get seated. Luckily there was plenty too look at while we waited. There are a bunch of murals on the wall that I thought were super cute. My friend pointed out the neon signs that were all over the walls and ceiling. When seated, I immediately appreciated how much space the table and seating had. A lot of other places, like Seapot in Sunnyvale cram people in like sardines and you are left fighting with the person behind you to allow enough space to eat. The food for me was a 3.5 out of 5. Slightly better than average, but not super good. I was also disappointed that their signage says, "KBBQ & Shabu," but they don't have any shabu. Hello? What happened there? We found that the regular menu was much more worth than the premium menu, mainly because the regular items actually seemed more flavorful than the special items (that were just more visually stunning). The bulgogi and regular galbi were the stars of the show for our meal, and we found ourselves ordering more of these items than the special galbi (which needed cutting and were actually less tender) It was important to note however that a lot of our orders (mainly side items) that were ordered through our server did not go through, and it was only after following up a couple of times that we received our items. Some items were out of stock but we were not notified so we were left anticipating items we never received. Especially as this kbbq spot is one of the priciest locations compared to other east bay kbbq places, I would have expected better service and food quality. read more

Came here tonight with friends for the first time. We walked in and were seated immediately on a Saturday at 5:30pm. Service was fantastic. My friend and I came here after a loooong day of moving. At 9PM, we originally went to some place called Chengdu Memories which was PACKED and so we came here which had a shorter wait time. We joined the waitlist from the app and sat in the parking lot, but we barely had to wait, maybe like less than 10mins? As you would imagine, we were famished and wanted to fill ourselves up with an AYCE spot. As we entered the restaurant, I noticed these effects on walls dividing each patron seating that leveraged the smoke from the grills with ember lighting, this created a really awesome flame effect. Upon being seated, the waiter asked us if we wanted to go with the premium menu to which we asked what the difference was - the waiter was very friendly and explained what came with it - what sold it was the bone marrow; the bone marrow came with a slice of bread split into 2 and unfortunately we could only order it once because it was that good. The bread was toasted and each bite was pure perfection. Also, I highly recommend the Lychee Soju pitcher - so good! Towards the end, we were so full that we were questioning if we had enough space for a Melona bar (which btw is also unlimited). I had an amazing time, but one thing that bothered me was that the floors were very slippery which is common for KBBQ spots, but this was a little too much because I was able to glide my chair around haha. Maybe I just went on an off day, but the meat quality didn't quite live up to what I'd expect from a premium AYCE experience. We mainly ordered the Prime Angus short rib, which was delicious once it was cooked. However, each slice was cut so thick that it took an incredibly long time to grill. We'd put the short rib on first, cook and finish eating everything else, and only then would it be ready to flip. I did appreciate that they provided a piece of beef fat to season and oil the grill. The biggest disappointment was the American Wagyu brisket. It was sliced much thicker than expected, had very little marbling, and ended up tough instead of tender. The bone marrow was decent but nothing particularly memorable. Unfortunately, the side dishes were also underwhelming. The pickled radish had an unusually sour flavor that didn't taste like the typical Korean pickled radish. The corn cheese took a long time to melt and ended up dry and clumpy rather than creamy. On the other hand, the fried mini balls were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The only downside was that the condensed milk dipping sauce wasn't very sweet, it didn't taste like much. Thankfully, they do offer complimentary ice cream for dessert, which was a nice way to end the meal. One thing I can't complain about was the service. The staff was attentive, our orders came out quickly, and they consistently checked on us throughout the meal. Overall, I left disappointed, especially considering all the glowing reviews. It was my boyfriend and I's first time here, as we just moved to the area! We went to celebrate a special occasion during lunch on a Friday. We were seated in a booth and noticed it didn't really have a vent above it as opposed to the booths against the wall. The seat was also far from the table and there was no way to move it. I had to stand up to cook the meat and lean far over the table to eat, or bring the bowl to my face. Not the best sit down experience personally, but the food made up for it! For the meat, the brisket was delicious! We also tried the beef belly and bulgogi. Ultimately, we liked the brisket the best. I will say, try to avoid the side dishes/appetizers please. Honestly I regret ordering the corn cheese and edamame. The corn cheese tasted honestly more like mayo. And the edamame was overly peppered and super cold. I do not recommend ordering those two at all. I do want to add that our server was amazing for being the only one working. I've been wanting to try Hungry Cow ever since it opened and finally got the chance! Came in for lunch on a Monday ($34.40 AYCE lunch menu) and it was practically empty, which was to be expected. There was only 1 server actively working the tables, with a little robot helper. He prepped our table and sat us within a few minutes, and he also took our first round of orders. A wall-mounted tablet was used to order everything else during our meal, with everything coming out on the automatic robot. One thing to note is that there is a 5 minute buffer between orders submitted on the tablet, so make sure you have everything you need before hitting submit or else you will have to wait for a 5 minute cool down. Other than that minor inconvenience, the service was efficient enough. LA Galbi: Probably the best tasting meat on the lunch menu, very meaty which was nice. Pork belly: Also good, no complaints Beef belly: A little too fatty, but decent Beef brisket: These were sliced a bit too thick in my opinion, which caused it to be a little tough to chew. The moment I saw huge slabs of meat and bone marrow being featured on my IG reels, I knew I had to come here. I was just waiting for the right opportunity and the moment came after driving back from Lake Tahoe. Instead of driving straight home, I took a detour without telling the wifey and she wondered where the heck was I going. All I asked her if she was hungry and when she said yes, that's all she needed to know. It was a rainy evening, and told her to join the waiting list as soon as we were in range. As expected, the place is busy so we patiently waited. There's a bar at the entrance so you can get some drinks while you wait. Once we got seated, our friendly server explained everything to us. Of course I wanted a bone marrow so we each got one (limit one per customer). We opted for the premium set ($59) since it offers a wide variety of higher quality meats like Angus, American Wagyu, Lamb, USDA Prime, Pork, Seafood, Chicken and plenty of side options. You know me, I ain't wastin' any space for chicken in an AYCE spot so we ordered almost everything that the server recommended and their more popular dishes. Also got a side of Beef Soup that was hearty, beefy flavor and warmed me up instantly. Their Steamed Egg (Chawanmushi) was also a nice delicate change of pace to help balance the heaviness of the meat, along with some lettuce wrap and ban chan. The Bone Marrow was as advertised - fatty, juicy and rich with bits of charred morsels that was splendid on the mouth. Since I'm Asian, I placed a dollop of spoonful on top of some rice (instead of bread) and it hit the spot. I can understand why they only limit it to one per customer, but it's understandable. As for the rest of the meat options, they definitely were of higher quality and if things aren't cooked to your expectations, you can blame the chef yourself. All kidding aside, this is legit K-BBQ and reasonably priced for the meat options. Don't forget the seafood options as well, as they are on part with the meats. There's plenty of side dishes to help balance everything out, and I suggest you come here hungry with a huge appetite. If there is one critique I would mention is that the tables are set a tad too high. I felt like a little kid reaching for food and grilling the meats. It was a bit an uncomfortable position eating on an elevated table. However, the exhaust fans were sucking out the smoke pretty well so you don't come out smelling like smoked BBQ. We decided to go on a whim the Sunday after Valentine's Day and were seated right away. Since it was our first visit, we really appreciated how attentive the server was walking us through the process and explaining how everything works. They offer two pricing options, and we went with the lower one with zero regrets. Unless you're set on trying bone marrow, the less expensive option is more than enough. We had a great time, and I especially liked being able to cook our own food, it's not something every place allows. By the time we finished, the restaurant was packed. Oh my goodness, my boyfriend and I came here on a whim and man finally we found a hot pot spot that actually nails the trifecta: cleanliness, quality, and flavor. From the second you walk in, you can tell they take hygiene seriously. The tables aren't sticky, the floors are spotless, and even the sauce station, which is usually a disaster at other places, was kept incredibly tidy and fully stocked. The meats are the absolute star here. Usually, hot pot meat relies entirely on the dipping sauce for flavor, but their marinated selections (get the bone marrow!) were so well-seasoned they could stand on their own. The cuts were premium, fresh, and didn't just fall apart into "meat dust" in the pot. Even the side dishes felt curated rather than just tossed on a plate. The veggies were crisp, and the specialty appetizers actually had some kick to them. I loved their kimchi! Things to take into consideration. There is a strict 90 minute time limit so you better come in ready to eat. Keep the meats coming!! Also, you get 5 items at a time, the trick is to order all your sides like rice, rice wraps, appetizers, veggies when you first order so that you can get more stuff. After the initial order, you are then limited as you have to order through the iPad on the table. Our server Kate was amazing. Premium meats served here at this all you can eat restaurant where your order is served by a robot but you still have to cook it yourself! Hungry Cow located here in central Fremont hosts a huge parking lot shared by smaller establishments has opened its doors to the community to feed their empty stomaches and feasting eyes. During weekday lunch hours, it seems to be moderately busy but I'm sure during peak times, you'd want to head in early or expect a wait on their waitlist. For larger parties, you may be able to secure their private room. With two menus featuring their offerings for the standard meal or premium meal, you'll be able to peruse the different protein options that will have you salivating regardless of the meal type you select. The main differences seem to be the offering of wagyu and filet mignon. As a first timer, it was great of the staff to orient us on the ordering process. As we were seated, they offered waters and described the limitation on dining time (90 minutes), proteins per order (5 proteins), and order delay (5 minutes between orders). These limitations seem to apply regardless of the size of the party and so it makes very little sense for larger parties. To add insult to injury, parties larger than 6 automatically incur an 18% gratuity. Oh plus, you cannot dine by yourself here - you need at least a party of two to dine in. Fortunately, they do offer discounts based on height - under 3 feet tall is free, 3 to 4 feet tall is half price, and 4 feet tall and up are full price. If you're still following after the stipulations, ordering can be done through the staff or through the tablet available at the table. The tablet is your best bet but we discovered that orders placed through still have to be approved by the staff serving your table. Therefore, if the staff is for whatever reason preoccupied with something else (in our case, bartending), you won't get your orders in. In our experience, we waited for a good 20 minutes, after placing 3 orders in following the order delay, before the staff finally showed up to fix everything. They offered to extend our eating time limit (but that never happened and we still had other things to do that day). Aside from the menu items, you'll find a fridge stocked with fruits (grapes, oranges, pineapples), salads (seaweed, fungus), and other cold eats. We were big fans of grabbing the pineapples for grilling. After placing your orders, items are delivered via robots that play songs and sounds as it arrives. Take the items off the tray, send the robot back, and start cooking! For birthdays, they can program the robot to come in to sing "Happy Birthday" and serve up a cup of candle-lit ice cream. We stuck with the standard meal and were constantly ordering the short ribs which were divine! The thin lamb and beef cuts were pretty good too - they cooked quick and were perfect for feeding the little ones. The marinated meats were flavorful but can be a bit too salty for some. The seafood (primarily shrimp and octopus) were pretty fresh and cooked well. The staff does a pretty good job in rotating clean cooking surfaces and collecting used dishes. They were pretty helpful when we encountered issues with ordering but they didn't seem very proactive with their service. Waters were not refilled unless formally requested or ordered, it seemed. But to enforce the time limitations? SUPER VIGILANT! Last call (mainly for meats) was reminded to us constantly as we got close. Overall, Hungry Cow certainly satisfies your hunger and has some high quality meats. The price is reasonable for being an AYCE but their constant reminders of the eating time limit was a big turn off. I also didn't appreciate the ordering delays on top of the limitations; it really makes no sense for larger parties. I was excited to try this place and although the meal was tasty and serviceable, I was also disappointed in the operational inefficiency. If you're hungry with a medium sized group and looking for a slow burn (up to 90 minutes), you'll get that here but if you're hangry with a group and needing a quick fix, you may want to look elsewhere, because you might leave as the hungry cow. read more

First time trying this restaurant. There are 2 menu options. We chose the $59 per person option. The quality of the meats we chose were really good. The garlic shrimp came peeled and was good also. I really like the bone broth soup, it was light but had good flavor. There was a fridge with fruit and other sides too you can grab. The pineapple was sweet! Since it wasn't busy, our server was nice and helped take the meat off the bone and cook too. The seats in the booth were too low for us and so far away from the table.
