Bungalow was where I celebrated my birthday last year, and it ended up being a really special experience. It is not the easiest place to get a reservation, so I was grateful they were able to accommodate a group of around 12 of us. The team was incredibly flexible and worked with me to shape a menu based on what I wanted, which made the night feel very personalized. We ended up trying most, if not all, of the menu, and everything delivered. You can really see the level of skill and technique in each dish, even in plates that feel simple or rooted in tradition. The space itself strikes a nice balance. It is spacious but still feels intimate. The staff were attentive throughout and went out of their way to make me feel special on my birthday. So I had waited quite a while to get a reservation and I was very excited to finally be able to visit. It's cute. Gardenesque. We have nice table overlooking the restaurant. Food wise: Yogurt kebabs: they were great and highly recommend. They are unique and great bite. Shrimp appetizer: great sauce and if you like seafood very tasty. Entrees: Chicken anarkali: it was alright. Rice was great. if you go to any Indian restaurant in Jackson heights you will get great butter chicken. Alleppey Shrimp Curry: it was also good but I wish they put more shrimp. Dessert: molten lava cake was great and so was the ice cream. I went for my birthday. The service was so-so. I made a reservation here and cancelled more than a day in advance and was charged a 75 dollar fee. This place is insanely popular and does not need to charge fees for people who cancel more a day in advance. I emailed them to see if they could reverse the fee because I saw my 6pm reservation was taken online and they did not respond to me for a week. They offered me the opportunity to dine there another date to use the 75 dollars I paid but then did not respond to me when I gave dates for another reservation. I truly despise businesses like this and cannot recommend this place to anyone. This is a very beautiful and well decorated restaurant. The service was attentive and coat/bag check were available upon arrival. This place is really only worth it if you like the aesthetic. The food was unfortunately not great. Of the appetizers, I tried the chaat, pani puri, and stuffed paneer. Chaat lacked the sweetness that typically compliments the tanginess. The pani puri potato filling was completely unseasoned and they pre-poured the water which made them soggy. The paneer was very tangy but barely crisped or seared. It missed the mark. Of the breads, the kulcha was very heavy with the amount of cheese in it but the paratha was good and well flaked. From the sides and mains, the daal was probably the best dish but was heavy. The chole was very bland and lacking seasoning. The paneer was swimming in oil and almost like a bhurji. A lot of the "elevation" was done by adding cream or more ghee or butter but the base flavor was lacking. The excess richness gave me some acid reflux too. read more

After seeing so many great reviews, we had been wanting to try this place for a long time. We made a reservation about three weeks in advance, and it was nice to meet Chef Vikas in person. We ordered the yogurt kebab, Anarkali chicken, pineapple curry, and railway chicken. For drinks, we tried the chai pani and kaali peeli taxi, and for dessert, we went with the mango three ways. The service and overall vibe were excellent. Since it's a busy spot, it took a few extra minutes for the food and drinks to arrive, but it was understandable. The Anarkali chicken stood out very flavorful and juicy. The yogurt kebabs were delicious as well, though they felt quite filling, probably because of the rich stuffing. If this place wasn't so hyped I would give it a 5. But if you have claim to be the best, you better make it better than the rest. The ambiance is definitely elite. You walk into a library and are later moved into an area where feel like your eating in a garden. There are multiple servers and each have a special role. One brought us out soup, while the other took our order, and another brought out the food. We got 3 appetizers and a main entree. By far the best was the yogurt kabab. It melts in your mouth. It has a sev surrounding the kebab. The starter coconut soup was bland. It had a little lentil like taste but its a nice free starter item.The Banaras puri was spicy. It tastes like a pani puri without the pani. Best part is that the taste lasts on for a minute. The beetroot Raita adds color but no added flavor. The anarkali chicken is tender. It has a spice that sneaks up on you. I like the crunch the watermelon radish adds. The pineapple gravy tastes like vargarelo pineapple with a coconut dal. Loved how cutting into the pineapple introduced so many new flavors to the dish. Overall the food was a 3.5 for taste and flavor and a 4.5 for uniqueness. The best part was the free dessert. For the starters, we ordered the lamb chops, achari paneer, dahi kebab. Lamb and kebab were amazing. Paneer was average. I've had Bungalow on my radar for so long and I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and do a walk in. I walked in at 5pm and there was a 1-2 hour wait. There's lots of smaller tables to order drinks while you wait for a seat at the bar. Service is top tier. I came in and saw Chef Vikas Khanna greeting people. They handed out dates for people breaking fast and everyone else. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful - the paintings, the arches, and the flowers! My server was excellent. I didn't love the clarified mango lassi and they exchanged it for me right away. Also, I got a complimentary Lyft home. I've never heard of that or experienced that til now. For food, I ordered the Anarkali Chicken, the Spice Roasted Pineapple, and the 5 Cheese Kulcha. For drinks, I ordered the Clarified Mango Lassi, the Lucky Cheng, and the Chai Pani. My favorites were the Anarkali Chicken, Spice Roasted Pinapple, the Lucky Cheng, and the Chai Pani. I would come back just to get the Anarkali Chicken alone. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, tender, and spicy. I loved the pomegranate and cilantro chutney with it. The sauce/curry that the Spice Roasted Pineapple came in was yummy. The drinks were fantastic. The Lucky Cheng was tangy and a little sour and sweet. The Chai Pani was perfectly sweet and the chai was present. I loved these drinks. All of the other items were good but those were the standouts for me. I was able to try the Yogurt Kebab and the Daal because of my new friend at the bar. I would pass on the Yogurt Kebab. Visiting Bungalow at NYC was an amazing experience. Getting the reservation was really challenging, the reservation is done online 20 days in advance and it gets fully booked within a couple of minutes. Nevertheless they offer you some places in the bar area if you walk in without reservations. I contacted them earlier in mail and confirmed the foods are Halal, and the server also confirmed. Coming to the dishes, we tried a full 3 course meal with appetizers, entrees and desserts as they recommend. As appetizers we tried yogurt kabab and shrimp balchao cones. Both of them were amazing but the yogurt kabab was unique. As entree we took the lamb curry and chicken biryani. They were different from traditional Indian places but nothing too extraordinary. The desserts were really nice and they also offer a complementary dessert outside of the menu if you're celebrating something. Celebrity Chef Vikas looks after all the guests and greets every table seeking feedback on the food. We finally made it to Bungalow after trying to snag a reservation for ages. Superbowl Sunday plus freezing temperatures must have scared people off, because some prime slots opened up. The restaurant is in the former Lucky Cheng's space and it is surprisingly large. There is a front lounge where you can munch on complimentary snacks while you wait, which is a really nice touch, and we were seated promptly in the back dining area. We started with the Banarasi Puri, Tandoori Prawns, and Lamb Chops. Every starter was excellent and everything came out impressively fast without feeling rushed. For mains, we had the Pudina Aloo, Chicken Amritsari, and the Five Cheese Kulcha. All of the dishes were flavorful, well executed, and lived up to the hype we had heard about this place. For dessert, we chose the mango served three ways, which was bright, refreshing, and a perfect way to end the meal. Service throughout the night was solid. Staff were attentive, checked on us regularly, and cleared plates quickly, which kept the table from feeling cluttered. They offer hand wipes at the beginning of the meal, and you finish with a box of candy presented along with the check, which is a fun and memorable way to end. I do have two critiques. The dining room was on the chilly side, which became noticeable over the course of the meal. Even more frustrating was the bathroom situation: there are only two unisex restrooms, and the line gets long and slow, especially during peak times. Managed to snag a 5pm Thursday reservation via Amex Resy nights. Apparently the waiting list is about 3 months long. We were excited to see what the hype was all about and over ordered a whole bunch of appetizers and mains. All the food was sooo good although some dishes were on the spicy side. Superb. Bungalow earns its Bib Gourmand status and more. Before even tasting the food, you walk down a staircase in to a beautiful waiting area. The head chef then personally greeted me and walked me to the back seating area, which is brilliantly illuminated with an overhead skylight. They then served me some of the best lamb chops I've ever had. Melt-in-your-mouth-tender, perfectly spiced lamb chops. Easily one of the most gorgeous restaurants I've seen in the city. The vibe is meticulously crafted. We sat in the back of the restaurant which is set up like a garden with lots of plants and a glass ceiling. The service was great and the food both looked and tasted amazing. The food was solid - we finished the shrimp curry and chicken curry (then regretted eating so much). I'm not usually a fan of lamb but I enjoyed the lamb chops as well. The chicken from the appetizer menu was so tender and juicy. Yogurt kebab was unique but probably not a repeat for us. We were placed at a corner table facing the kitchen and seated side by side. I have to admit - i was a bit disappointed by the service here - it took us more than 20 minutes to order because the staff was too busy, then they actually asked us to move tables as we were finishing up because the next party was there. We tried this East Village spot on a winter evening. Getting a reservation wasn't easy--we booked almost 20 days in advance--but the experience lived up to the hype. Spiced pineapple dish Now for a slightly controversial opinion: the spiced pineapple dish feels a bit overrated. For someone familiar with well-balanced savory coconut milk-based dishes, this comes across as basically "gasshi" with a roasted pineapple in the middle, especially if you're from a Mangalorean or Karwari background where those flavors are part of everyday cooking. Desserts The kulfi falooda was a letdown, with some unexpected salty notes that threw off the balance. For someone who has had top-notch faloodas in Mumbai, this version feels pretty underwhelming, so if you've enjoyed really good faloodas in India before, you can probably skip this one. An ode to North Indian Food! Making reservations at Bungalow wasn't the easiest. Since visiting we understand why! Ambiance: Beautiful is an understatement. As you keep going deep into the dining room, it gets much prettier. Very tastefully done interiors and decor along with old photos from India which we understand is from Chef Vikas' upbringing and more. In an unexpected turn of events, what was meant to be a weekend with my husband expanded to bringing our kids along (mom guilt), but there was no way I was giving up this reservation. So, I ended up having a lovely mom-daughter dinner date with my older daughter. The whole evening was really spectacular. Our waiter, Abhishek, was really kind (and gave great recs, esp on the Holi Moly cocktail) and the food was delicious. I really loved the yogurt kabob-- it was such a unique and balanced dish: crunchy exterior, creamy rich interior cut with a punchy citrusy chutney! I saved one in a to-go bag and my husband agreed it was the best thing he has tasted in a while. And at the end, Chef Khanna surprised my daughter with a dessert and a couple of little celebratory gifts. It really felt genuine and highlighted what a kind and extremely talented human he is. Bungalow features a celebrity chef and modern takes on Indian food which are mostly successful. It can be a pain getting a reservation here but I think it's worth coming here at least once. On food, I felt everything was solid, with a couple stand outs. The yogurt kabob is a dish you'll see at virtually every table. It kind of evokes knafeh meets crab rangoon, and is pretty tasty, though frankly I think there are better options. The shrimp curry was delicious, with tangy tamarind and coconut milk. The rajasthani lamb was super tender, also a great option. Service was a bit mixed. We ate towards the end of service and you can kind of tell the servers were not quite on their A-game. Sept 12, 2025 review: ------ I had been wanting to try this place for months. When I made the plan to to visit NYC, I knew I had to go there and meet chef in person. Now, let me tell you the reality. ITS NOT Easy to get reservations for this place. It goes away in micro second right when it opens up. So you need be flexible on time and maybe day if you have that bandwidth. We tried many ways and finally got the 5pm reservation. There is no contact number of restaurant listed anywhere so only way, you can contact them is via email. They have a 15 mins grace period and we reach under that so were able to get a table. Although we were told that we'll have to leave the table for next reservation around 6:30pm, sitting in couch area was an option after 6:30pm. We were given complementary papad and service was also very quick from handing menu to taking order to getting food and cheque. Being a famous restaurant I had not expected that. We got yogurt kabab, achari Paneer tikka, white peas guguni and Rose Kulfi Falooda for dessert. Yogurt kabab: 10/10 Achari Paneer tikka: 9/10 White peas guguni: 9/10 Falooda: 10/10 All the items were decorated 10/10. Mango sauce surrounding the yogurt kabab and paneer tikka was housemade and tasty very unique. It was my first time eating white peas guguni and really liked it. The crispy noodles added nice texture to it. Kulfi Falooda was creamy with not so overpowering rose taste. I wish it had little bit more Falooda. This place is full of celebrities so keep your camera ready. And of course, best part was to meet chef Vikas Khanna. It becomes a queue quickly to get picture with him. The cheque box was also very pretty. It came with aam papad, imli goli and mukhvaas in cute little packets. Thry give at least 3 of each kind. Here's what we got (all vegetarian): - Smoked Sweet Potato Chaat: this was just ok, not my favorite - Yogurt Kabab: good but nothing out of this world - Spice Roasted Pineapple: super unique and probably one of my favorite items - Paneer Lazeez: also good and something a little different than your usual paneer entree (the paneer was also super fresh and clearly homemade) - Mint Laccha Paratha: really yummy! - Mango 3 Way: good not great, standard mango item Overall, definitely worth going once, maybe even for a drink or just apps but I wouldn't expect anything out of this world. read more

Reservations are so hard to find and husband and I waited outside (we arrived at 4.20pm ish) and there was 1 party ahead of us. We got a seat at the bar as soon as the doors opened at 5 pm. The ambience is nice, very traditional, warm yet modern decor. Lot of carved wood which very colonial Indian inspired. Music was a bit loud imo. We started with the paan sour and clarified mango lassi. The paan sour was good, mango lassi was alright. For apps, We got: - the dahi puri - which was good, nothing crazy to write about - Malvani fish tikka- this was good, the salmon was fresh but I don't think there was anything Malvani about it. It definitely felt fusion. It had banana puree which really threw us both off and dint go well with the fish. - yogurt kebab - my husband loved this. The texture was too much for me. - Lamb chops - this is the only thing we absolutely loved!!! Cooked to perfection and perfect spices! Loved it. This had to be our favorite from all the things we ordered - Rose kulfi - cloyingly sweet. I had really high expectations for this one but I thought this was hyped. Service was attentive and not intrusive which I appreciate. Vikas Khanna will stop by your table probably with one of the dishes that you ordered, very sweet. Bungalow is a nice experience with good food. I do think the place is overhyped/pricey, but worth trying this place at least once for the experience. Note: We did have a reservation, and the place was packed during our weeknight dinner. What we got: Golden Temple Mocktail - Nice, but not anything unique Banarasi Puri - Delicious, and was nicely presented as well White Peas Guguni - Definitely get this, loved the bread it was served with as well Yogurt Kabab - I enjoyed this dish and am glad I got it after reading all the reviews Achari Stuffed Paneer- - Nice, but not anything unique Daal Bungalow - Great! very similar to the Dishoom black daal Old Delhi Chole - I enjoyed this dish as well, but I would choose the daal over this if you are in-between the 2 side options (FYI this was spicy) Mint Laccha Paratha / Butter Naan - The paratha is nice/unique, and the naan is a solid option for the daal/chole Vegetarian friendly? Yes, absolutely! A lot of vegetarian options for us, and the above food was a LOT of food for 2 people. We ended up taking a lot of food home and was enough for 2-3 more meals Ambiance: Nice, elevated, and airy Service: Was great, and was nice of the chef to stop by the table too. It was my husband's birthday and they brought us a special dessert on the house with candles. Super nice! I'm unimpressed for how expensive this place is. Feel like I've had better Indian food literally anywhere else. Tbh flavors were decent for some dishes but I didn't love the texture for almost every dish. Get: rose kulfi, anakarli chicken, yogurt kebab, paneer dish we had - these were all pretty unique and good I'd skip the lamb chops, and the two other curries we tried. The naan is good tho. The restaurant itself is beautiful but the prices are hefty for on the smaller side portions. read more

We might have had rustic-sounding dishes like a paan cocktail and sattu ki roti, but there are no gutkha stains in sight at what is certainly NYC's poshest Indian eatery - to Manhattan what Bastion is to Bombay, if you will. Tables here are still hard to snag, but it appears to now be feasible during off-hours, like a late Tuesday afternoon when we went. Overall there were some hits and misses in terms of what we ordered. The dahi kabab was definitely the favorite - it felt more like a dish I might taste at a Lebanese or Turkish restaurant, with a crunchy layer of kadayif surrounding a beautiful center of hung curd. Absolutely order this! The daal, achari paneer and sattu ki roti were all good but nothing extraordinary. (On a day as hot as this sattu ka sharbart probably would have hit the spot more, but this is not a restaurant for the aam aadmi). I can't help but wish that an establishment as esteemed as Bungalow had pushed the envelope a bit more with the menu, which still leans conservative. read more

Coming to the restaurant, I actually had no idea how reputable it was. Immediately, the atmosphere is really welcoming and there's a large seating space for people to wait for an open table. When I came my friends filled me in on how hard it is to get a reservation here. There's also a bar area where you can have a drink also and wait for a table. Service was great and the servers really paid attention to every detail. We received empty plates and silverware and the table was regularly cleaned. It also felt special that Vikas came to our table and it looked like he often walked through to make sure things were going well at each table. As far as the food goes I think my friends enjoyed it a lot more than me. As a table we ordered the anarkali chicken, the lamb seekh kebab, the aloo gobhi, the amritsari chicken, the lamb fry, the five cheese kulcha, some naan and some rice. The food is good but the only standouts were the aloo gobhi and the lamb tellicherry fry. I also wish there more vegetable forward dishes, the focus is definitely more on their meats. They do have a 20% gratuity added immediately despite party size. read more

We had a reservation for a date night and were lucky to be seated at one of the best tables in the main dining room - we were at one of the two corner tables with the prettiest backdrop and a cool vantage point that you can pretty much see the entire restaurant. Now (not so quickly) to the good, the bad and the ugly: Ambiance: The interior checks off all the boxes for me: cozy, romantic shades of pinks and greens everywhere (hell yes!), lots of natural light, vine-covered walls as well as vintage chandeliers. For reference, they have several spaces as you walk through the restaurant: starting from the library-inspired waiting area, then the bar area, next comes the leather upholstered booths and finally the space opens to a warm and inviting main dining room filled with plenty of natural light coming through the skylight and ton of climbers on the walls. Do not forget to use the bathrooms if you love floral wallpapers and antique mirrors! Food: Personally, I loved every dish I had down to the last bite. The Yogurt Kebab was surprisingly so good - crispy and crunchy on the outside while so creamy on the inside. I say surprisingly because I am not one to order kebabs in a restaurant leave alone a yogurt kebab. But also, do you see how pretty the colors of that dish are? The Anarkali chicken was so succulent and prepared to perfection with flavors infused through the melt-in-your-mouth meat. The Spice roasted Pineapple was a delightful combination of the classic coconut flavor and sweet pineapple - sort of like eating a savory pina colada but 100 times better. That's probably not a good analogy but you get my point. The crunchy curry leaves topping added a perfect textural and savory element. Whatever mains you choose, don't be basic when it comes to the bread. Instead, order the Farmer's Sattu Roti - feels like home and something I haven't found anywhere in the US. Drinks: We ordered the Kaali Peeli Taxi and Holi Moly - I like the wordplay on the cocktail menu but I wasn't particularly impressed by the drinks; although the drinks may creative on paper, the ones we ordered were very basic in terms of taste and presentation. Dessert: We skipped dessert entirely because as an Indian restaurant they could do so much better with the dessert offerings but the ones on the menu seem very mainstream - so tired of seeing falooda and mango everywhere I go. And what is molten chocolate cake doing here anyway? Hard pass. After the meal, they serve a box of mouth fresher which includes sweet fennel, sweet tamarind candy as well as Mango bite which is an old school candy quite popular in India during the 90s. On the way out, there was a table with a spread of Indian Sweets and tins of Cumin powder to take home as a parting gift for all the patrons. If you have been to EMP, it is like taking home the jar of granola. TL; DR: I know, when I love a restaurant, I tend to harp. I wouldn't give it 5 stars only because there is much room for improvement especially when it comes to drinks and desserts. But if you love Vikas Khanna, just come here to support him. You may or may not like the food, but the ambiance and hospitality are surely going to blow you away. read more

The decor and interior design of bungalow is really nice, feels very authentic yet upscale. I think the portions are way too small for what they charge, but the flavors are unique compared to other Indian restaurants. In particular the lamb chops were done really well, heavily seasoned and not overcooked. That 1 was a must order, the yogurt kebabs are different, but not worth the value to reorder again after trying them once. The chicken amritsari is an elevated butter chicken, but it only had 7 pieces of chicken which was frustrating when it's pretty tasty. I question how often I'd go back ONLY because of the portion sizes. read more
