I rarely write reviews, but Chatti absolutely deserves one. This is, without a doubt, the best Indian food I've had in the US--and the most authentic. As someone from Mangalore, it's the closest I've come to food that truly tastes like home. I had the Pomfret Tawa Grilled, Fish Tawa Grilled with Gooseberry Masala, Clay Pot Fish Curry, Tapioca Mash, Steamed Hoppers (mini appams), and the Cloud Pudding. Every dish was flawless and deeply authentic. As someone who loves to cook, I know how rare it is to execute traditional dishes this well in restaurants. What made the experience unforgettable, though, was Chef Regi Mathew. I was traveling solo, and he welcomed me with such genuine warmth that I felt like I was eating at home. He took the time to introduce me to several dishes and made sure I experienced the very best Chatti had to offer. That kind of hospitality is rare. The ambiance is elegant yet comfortable and perfectly complements the food. This meal was one of the highlights of my trip to New York--and that's saying a lot because I also dined at "The Modern" on the same trip. Chatti left the stronger impression because it wasn't just an incredible meal; it was an experience I'll remember for a long time. I truly hope Chatti earns a Michelin star--it would be incredibly well deserved. I'll be recommending this restaurant to everyone I know who visits NYC, and I can't wait to return.

This place is NEXT LEVEL. I'm so impressed not just by the food, but by the intricacy of their menu, the expertise of the staff, and the friendliness of the chef who made an effort to visit every table. The vibe is clean, crafted, and authentic. I went with two coworkers very familiar with this cuisine who had visited before, and they couldn't have been more excited to introduce us to what they believe is the "best in the city". Dinner started with a story via shells, then appetizers, then complimentary palette cleansers, then mains, then the chef brining out digestive drinks, then dessert. Every price was phenomenal. I particularly recommend the chicken curries (we tried several) as well as the banana flower appetizer. Get several of the breads (last page of the menu) as well, at least one per person.

Heard of this phrase - About to win a marathon but tripped by the finish line? We went to this Instagram and friends' circle hyped fine dine place for the Mother's Day special brunch menu that was priced at $90 for an adult and $50 for a kid. Luckily we found street parking but they honor and validate parking at Emerald garage that none of the reviews or their website mention. We hustled through the NY traffic and arrived 15 mins late which they still honored and was nice of them. We were seated, given warm wet towelettes and given a run down of the menu and drinks offered. What worked for us? - The Kottuvadi shot that we tried outside the special menu was amazing with its sharp flavors. - The special brunch menu was expansive and worth the expensive price tag it came with. - Lot of courses was low on portion size, but delightfully tasty and for its authenticity, took us on a ride back to God's own country - Kerala! - The staff were mostly nice and manager Christopher greeted us had a quick personalized chat before our food appeared. So what didn't work- - The music played was not only distracting with the choice but also loud most of the time. - The time spacing between the starter and main menu was painfully longer and kept us hungry. - The fruit sarbath as part of the brunch menu was very ordinary. - The front desk did confirm that my 2.5 yr old will not be charged when the reservation was made but the server made it clear that he would be charged as a kid only later to find he didn't really show interest with the starters menu and assured his charges would be waived off and that he can share from our plates. - Since it was Mother's Day, I also requested the front desk to bring to the table a dessert with a personalized message wishing my wife which the front desk person checked with the kitchen and confirmed can be done, only to forget it completely and I couldn't even call a staff and check why they missed it, for obvious reasons not to let my wife feel disappointed. - The Mother's Day fancy tag/label that was to be accompanied by the dessert menu, only arrived half way through the course. - Now to all these misses and messes, when the bill arrived with a 18% auto-gratuity already added, we didn't feel the need to tip generously and our mannerless waiter (purposefully not mentioning the name) peeped into what was entered as tip and questioned if we were not happy with the service and pulled out the credit card from the machine and left disgruntled. All the wonderful moments of a celebration went in vain for its equal number of 'Could have been better' moments. Will we return to Chatti, not an immediate Yes!

Definitely an elevated experience for eating Malayalee food. It is a bit more expensive for the quantity but a good place to go with a group to try everything. The coconut dessert stood out to me as it was a bit non traditional

On Valentine's Day, I decided on a whim to come here as I called and stated that there was bar seating available. I heard great things about the restaurant and wanted to experience the food for the first time with my fiancée. (1) I decided not to book anything in advance this past Valentine's Day for dinner for a multitude of other reasons, so getting here for dinner before 6pm at the bar seemed pretty good. Especially since the Valentine's Day special was like a 4 course event. Anyhow, the service, decor, class, etc. is all bar none. I don't think you can beat this. Also, for me I like to experience Indian food that I don't really get when I'm at parties and in the suburbs. In other words, I'm not craving most North Indian food in NYC! Therefore, when I saw Kerala inspired food, I couldn't say no. We started off with some excellent cocktails. I got the munnar blossom - which is basically like a margarita. The fiancée got herself a God's Own Country. Both were excellent. Also, the bartenders were super awesome. Very nice and affable people. Also, it was cool seeing Chef Regi introduce himself to every patron. That will go a long way in terms of maintaining goodwill. We opted for a few items to share. We started with an eggplant tawa and then ordered a black chickpea curry with the puttu (steamed rice cake). The black chickpea curry was AWESOME. Had a nice little bounce to it. It paired well with the puttu as the chickpeas weren't too large. Made it easier to eat. The eggplant tawa was also very tasty too. At the end, we got a Kandhari chili shot (we opted for the mocktail version), which was quite unique. Now the only reason we give this a 4/5 is because the quantity size is SMALL for the amount you're paying. We effectively ate a light dinner (which surely isn't a problem for us foodies at times!), but at around $60-65/person, we did feel hungry afterwards. I think we would've had to order at least one more main which then would make the tab at least $80/person. That's perhaps a bit too steep for most. Also, keep in mind that the food served at the bar is a smaller version of what's served with the proper seating. Therefore, I have to return with a reservation in the future to get a proper dining experience. But note it'll be a very expensive evening. Notes: 1) She's already been here last summer

Ethan was a really great server. He gave good recommendations for first timer at Chatti and ran through the menu explaining which dishes were mild spicy. Before my meal came, a female staff offered an amuse bouche. It looked like a small piece of chocolate in the bowl but it was actually jelly like consistency and tasted a little tart. Per staff, it was a palate cleanser. Recommended by an Indian Couple next to me, I got the Toddy [$15](5% ABV) It was pretty good. They said if you are here to try Kerala cuisine the Toddy is a must. It was a fermented coconut drink and reminded me of the Korean Makegeolli fermented rice drink. Dishes I Got: - BDF [$17] - beef was very flavorful and full of spice and not really spicy at all per Ethan. It reminded me of the Chinese street cart 5 spice beef skewers you can buy on the street. I thought it was decent. Portion was a little small for the price. - Fish Moilee [$38] - Lemony and Curry creamy Halibut. I think this was my favorite dish of the night. No bones which was a plus and not spicy. I paired it with the Petit Hoppers [$12] per Chef Regi. The Petit Hoppers were certainly cute and visually appealing but I think the String Hoppers would have been a better choice. Chef Regi was very friendly, he stopped by at almost all the tables greeting the guests. Overall, I had a pretty good experience here.

I was very excited to come here as a Mallu myself, but thought our meal was average at best. We started with the Trivandrum chicken fry then ordered the wayanad chicken curry, clay pot fish curry and mutton cup biryani for mains. The chicken curry was my favorite. The fish curry tasted exactly like a frozen fish curry we'd always get at the Indian store so that wasn't as impressive. Biryani was decent and it came with a really nice sweet chutney we liked. We also got the pomfret and chose the tawa grilled with gooseberry masala. That was really good and the fish was cooked well. For dessert we had the filter coffee pudding which was probably the highlight of our meal. Kinda tasted like Indian flan. I also tried the hibiscus fizz mocktail which was ok

Chatti is truly an amazing experience! My fiance and I came here on a Saturday evening and were greeted with so much warmth and it felt like we were at home! The food was absolutely delicious, they have a variety of Kerala dishes to try. The main course was also really good and they have so many different variations that can fit anybody's tastebuds! The drinks were okay, and definitely could use some different taste. The best part, is that Regi Uncle comes to each table to greet and speak to you! You can tell that he deeply cares about his restaurant, food, and culture of the place. Overall, I would recommend and would definitely come back and bring my parents.

First time trying Kerala food! I've only had northern Indian food in the past so glad I was able to explore a different cultural cuisine :D So as someone who tried these dishes for the first time, here were my overall impressions: Breadfruit Fry: 5/5 - the breadfruit had a potato-y texture that was kinda pasty but yummy especially with the spiced seasoning Quail Eggs: 4/5 - the quail eggs themselves were cooked beautifully, super soft and yolky on the inside contrasting the dry spiced coating on the outside (the dryness threw me off at first but I got used to it); the marinade paste reminded me of chinese szechuan spices Quilon Coconut Prawns: 5/5 - I'm honestly not the biggest fan of seafood but the prawns were succulent and I loved the spiced coconut flakes that came w it Malabar Chicken Curry: 5/5 - def different from my usual experiences with Indian curry (aka butter chicken and tikka masala...very cultured I know) but I really liked it! The texture is more soupy but it was very savory and the spice definitely became more prominent so that was a good kick to the tastebuds String Hoppers: 3/5 - not bad at all they're like clusters of fine noodles (kinda like Korean somyeon I've had before) but I personally prefer just rice or kerala parotta with curry Cloud Pudding: 5/5 - she was so silky and delicate with a clean and refreshing coconut flavor Chili Ice Cream: 4/5 - honestly was such an interesting experience eating spicy ice cream and I kept eating it to figure out how this was even possible, but then was humbled by the spice Pictured but not mentioned: my friends got the pomfret and ripe mango curry, and they both enjoyed their dishes as well! Service was very nice and helpful with the menu, plus we even got an honorable visit from THE Chef Regi Mathew himself ;) Definitely on the $$$ side but the vibes of the restaurant are exquisite and the dishes themselves are of high caliber culinary craftmanship - would love to explore more dishes next time!

Good food, great taste, small portions and pricey. Every dish I tried was tasty and reminded me of the flavors of Kerala. Chatti is on its own when it comes to Kerala restaurants here in the tri-state. As for me and others that were with me, once you have tried the place, you probably won't be going back. It's not the quality of the food, it's the bill and the portions. When it comes to the dishes, the best "touchings" dish I enjoyed the most was the beef fry ($15). If you are a party of 4, you'll end up with just a small spoonful of food. The dishes are portioned for one to two person max. As for the main dish that stood out for me was the seafood moilee. Don't forget get order the Cloud Pudding at the end.

This place was great! Small plates, almost like a tapas style, so I'd suggest coming with a group of at least 3 you can. Def a higher end Indian spot so it is a bit more about the vibes/ experience and you can find equally good Indian food elsewhere but this is a great double date spot, especially if you want to get drinks with the group (the cocktails were unreal) Got tons of appetizers including the coconut clams, sardines, beef, etc. Does Indian seafood sound like the vibe? Maybe not but it is pretty big at this spot. While the seafood dishes weren't my favorite, they were good. I forgot what was in the curry in the picture but I couldn't get enough of it, waiting for everyone to get a spoonful so I could go for seconds and thirds. The parathas were amazing, so crispy and soft so order a ton of those. Usually I love doing some bread and rice but the rice was alright so I'd stick to the parotta/ paratha. The drinks also really stood out to me, I got a vodka samba drink or something like that, basically a martini except I don't usually like martinis. It was a savory, spicy beverage and I've been on the hunt for a savory cocktail. The rim of the drink was really a part of the flavor and experience as well. My boyfriend got the whiskey sour and it had egg white/ wine foam. What the hell is wine foam?! The foam also made this drink special. My friend got a rum cocktail (the wine colored drink in the picture) that was also super yummy, almost like a hibiscus with a subtle savoryness to it, The service was good, I suggest asking them to bring things out as they come. Food didn't take too long but the rice took long and was nearly the last thing to come out, they probably forgot but that's ok.

    Malabar mutton

The ambiance at this spot is undeniably charming - they start you off with a decorative seashell on your plate, which is a lovely, creative touch. Unfortunately, that attention to detail didn't extend to service as our table didn't have any napkins, even after asking for it. We started with a few of the "touchings" which is their appetizer menu, but keep in mind that these are pretty small portions. We tried the Malabar mutton, it had great flavor but was quite chewy. The prawns and coconut were average and the Trivandrum fried chicken was only slightly better. The standout dish for me was the tawa fried pomfret - beautifully cooked with bold, balanced flavors. Definitely the highlight of the meal. For mains, we tried an off-menu chicken curry the server recommended. It tasted like something you'd find in a typical Indian home, comforting but not memorable. The mango curry with kingfish was delicious, especially paired with the flaky Kerala paratha. We also ordered the cup mutton biryani, which had a unique flavor but unfortunately, the mutton was terribly overcooked again. Extremely tough to eat, which made this a huge letdown. It's a shame because the rice tasted so good. We ended with the filter coffee pudding and the cloud pudding. Both were decent but didn't really leave a lasting impression. In all, I found the experience to be overpriced. Not because of the individual prices, but because you need to order quite a bit to feel satisfied. The seafood was the saving grace, but with average chicken dishes and poorly executed mutton, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

So Annapurna Bhavan had my curiosity before I even walked in. The ambience was good. They don't take reservations, but we were seated as soon as we walked in. Sadly, the food didn't quite deliver. THE GOOD The dosas were well-made and honestly the highlight of the meal. Crispy, properly thin, no complaints there. THE NOT-SO-GOOD Ordered a Rose Milk. Got a rose lassi. These are two completely different things -- rose milk is a light, chilled milk drink; lassi is a yogurt-based beverage. Not a small mix-up if you know South Indian cuisine. The dahi vada was a letdown. It hadn't been soaked in yogurt nearly long enough -- the vadas were still firm, which defeats the whole purpose of the dish. Authentic dahi vada should be pillowy soft. A lot of the menu leans heavily Americanized. The oothappam topped with cheese and jalapeño is a prime example -- it's more Tex-Mex than Tamil Nadu. Fusion is fine, but don't call it traditional. BOTTOM LINE If you're in the neighborhood and craving something South Indian-adjacent, it's convenient and the dosas will do the job. But if you're someone who grew up eating this food and wants the real thing -- you'll probably leave a little disappointed. The location is great; the authenticity needs work.
