This was....FABULOUS. Quite a fun surprise -- we were literally only here because there are high speed EV chargers adjacent, and our meat-eater wanted a burger. So what the heck. It's unassuming and as original a menu as you can get within the burger genre. The vegheads in our party had to settle for grilled cheese and fries, because that's literally all they have without meat except for the three bean veg burger, but they were EXCELLENT. The meat-eater really liked his Yard Burger, which was a ton of stuff piled on top. But you can also get just a plain hamburger and a plain cheeseburger, nothing else added! The bread and buns were really fresh. The vibe here is industrial chic, but I think this is unaffectedly so and perhaps unintentional. This location is squirreled into a kind of shotgun-shack retail space, very narrow -- just enough room for one layer of seats opposite the counter and kitchen, so you can see all the action. No frills, but not shabby at all. This location has entrances front and back, which was good for us and allowed more light than you might expect to come in. Excellent restrooms. We quite enjoyed it and wished we'd had the appetite for shakes. Some unusual items: first off, they have a lambburger. Lamb is fabulous or at least it was before I was made into a veghead. It's really great they offer it. The other great unique item was Harney and Sons ICED TEA in a bottle, which I've never seen outside of Millerton NY (where Harney's is located.) One of us had the black tea, the other green tea. It was not overly sweetened, and was just really high quality. I'm not sure I've ever quite had an iced tea from a bottle quite this good. I didn't really know what to expect when going here. I ordered 2 small fries, chicken nuggets, and a dirty bird chicken sandwich. The amount of food I received was insane! I barely even ate half of it. The fries were delicious, though a bit greasy, and were even better when dipped in bbq sauce. The dirty bird had a tasty purple cabbage slaw and delicious cheese. The bun was super soft and flavorful. Though the nuggets looked like they would be overly crispy and mostly breading, they weren't at all. They were absolutely delicious! The restaurant is small, but has a good bit of seating. The staff member working the register was very patient with me as I took some time to look over the menu before ordering. Before I get to the food there is already a problem. I almost never knock a casual place for ambiance or slightly rude staff but in this case I'll make an exception. They were blasting really awful country music. Blaring to the point we couldn't carry on a conversation. And it was the old school country like "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through the Goalposts of Life" stuff. Ruins one's appetite. A recurring theme with me - really bland off-brand ketchup. Just tells me you are more interested in saving $1.89 on a bottle of ketchup than in a quality dining experience. The burger was under-seasoned but the meat was good and plenty juicy. The fresh cut fries were better than average. This is not a huge deal for me because I don't typically drink sodas but all they have is some kind of local drink. No name brand sodas. That is fine but I have found local sodas to be wildly erratic so it is a crapshoot there. So, the meal itself was pretty good. Under different circumstances I would have given it four stars. Just couldn't overcome the other problems. If it had been one problem they would have gotten away from it. So, if you are on the road and none of the things above bother you, by all means, stop by. read more

TLDR; Terrible burgers made to be health-conscious (grass-fed, gluten free, locally sourced, etc.); amazing fries tho! This was a stop by after hiking upstate. I appreciated the effort to provide top ingredients but the flavor about every dish was a complete letdown (except for their fries). Order at the countertop at the front and seat yourself at the table with your number. When ready the staff brought out the food. Original Bun (2/5): The original quarter pounder texture was off and had no taste had it not been accompanied with the Bun Sauce that provided some sort of flavor. Dirty Bird (2/5): The breading to the chicken was done well with a great flavor and crunch. However, the chicken itself was very stringy (woody breast). We popped into Buns while upstate for a trip to Saugerties. It is very conveniently located - we drove right by it after picking up groceries. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. That said, I don't know that I'd want to eat inside. It seemed like more of a takeout spot, though they did have seating available, with an industrial vibe. Would go again - Buns Burgers is in a small town so it will be difficult for anyone outside the area to find it yet alone go here. I found it while I was on a trip to Albany, NY. I was deciding between a 3 or 4 stars. Although the burger was quite tasty and was setup good, there wasn't anything special to it. It seems they source the meat from a local farm so that's what have it the 4 stars. It tastes like a quality normal burger. There are a few other options that look interesting but I was in the mood for a burger. The fries were tasty as well. One of the better side of fries from a burger place. Don't forget the bun sauce for something unique to this place. It tastes like a mix of ketchup, mayo, and horseradish? Regardless, it goes well with the fries. They have a small parking lot upfront, which should be enough for the visitors given the location. The interior is casual and has a bar and farm style. I'm always glad to patronize independent burger joints and small chains (Buns Burgers is currently a chain of two). It's even better if they offer some items on the menu I find really interesting, and in this case there were a couple. One was milkshakes made with ice cream from local favorite Adirondack Creamery. I was hoping one of the flavors on their menu would be a Pumpkin Pie milkshake, not so, but vanilla was just as good. This is what a milkshake is supposed to be like - ice cream, milk, no frothy whipped cream, no toppings. Boom. Done. The other is that lamb burger. Oh my goodness is that good. It comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, and either a tzatziki sauce or a tzatziki-like sauce, but it certainly enhanced the taste. I try not to order burgers where the sauce is what makes it tasty, but for this one, I'll make an exception. A side salad costs the same as a small order of fries, $3, but it's only a bowl of greens with a dressing. It was still pretty good. The seasonal salad, at $8, looks to be a better deal, and they list the seasonal extras on a board at the counter. You can also add your favorite meat topping for a few dollars more, making it a meal without the bun. This would also be a convenient meal option if you're traveling on the Thruway, located right at the Saugerties exit. At least for me, I'd rather spend a little more for a better burger and meal than I might get at the plaza a few miles to the north. read more

The best kind of fast food! Buns may have a funny name and you can blink and miss it because of its location, however it offers pretty good food. The inside has a very slick, industrial look that doesn't match the sign outside even slightly. From the open kitchen to the tall ceilings, the space feels larger than it is. Service has always been friendly and fast every time I've visited. Prices are good as is, and when you get the food they appear even more favorable. The go-to burger is pretty much exactly what you want in a fast food burger. It is greasy, has a nice secret sauce, good lettuce/tomato/pickles, and the patty has good flavor. My only gripes are that the patties are a bit thin alone but too much when you make it a double, and the bun (ironically) doesn't always hold up to everything. Part of the reason for the latter is that it is toasted and buttery (sometimes too much so, which can backfire. My wife likes the fried chicken sandwich, and the grilled chicken sandwich gets ordered in my house to positive reviews as well (yes, 2 chicken sandwiches). Fries are nice and crisp with a huge portion (think 5 guys-style, put it in a bucket, put the bucket in a bag, then fill the bag). Salad was also stellar the one time I got it, with really fresh greens and great dressing. Only got a shake once, but I enjoyed it. Guys: please buy a new sign? Pretty please? I know nothing about design, but I would be happy to scribble something on a napkin for ya. Your food is really good and I don't mean to be rude, but it is needed so more people can try you out. This is much better than my local McDonald's, most likely due to the fact that they are in the NY Metro market and they do not have a play space. Turns out my anaconda didn't want as much as it thought it did. Buns is another entry in an overcrowded burger field, and I don't think they have what it takes in two regards: their sandwiches are more on par with Smashburger and Shake Shack, what I'll call the "mid-elite chains", but their prices are up in Zinburger "high-elite" territory. It doesn't work. I liked the food, but the portions were way too small for the price, even granted the high ingredients quality. The milkshake was pitifully small for the price, compared to what $5 normally buys (and I'm talking real ice cream shakes too). Not a fan of the interior - a finished ceiling would make the place a lot cozier and more comfortable for eating. Service was OK, but it wasn't clear where to obtain utensils and napkins (they're opposite the pay counter, which isn't where they prepare the food), and no one pointed it out to me right away. If the price point were about 25% less, I would give Buns 33% more star rating. I don't think this place is going to last for that reason, and given the business I saw on a Friday night - too much money, not enough food, in an area not known for "spendy = trendy". I do, however, love the name and logo. So there's a start. read more

Ok, the outside looks non-descript, and tucked in a parking lot with a Verizon, but inside contains the best burgers in town...hands down! And yes, get over the silly name too, because the food is amazing--Kilcoyne Farm grass-fed beef patties, fresh veggies, and hand cut fries by the bucket. My mouth is watering just thinking about eating a Buns burger! They have other offerings that I've never had--veggie burger, lamb, chicken, a few hot dog offerings, and some shakes--mainly because I can't realistically think there will be a time when I would be ordering the signature burger. Good burger and fries for sure. While on a visit to the Saugerties location I had a strange expieirence! They recently added Chicken Nuggets and I must say they were slamming. I was inticed to purchase by a photo at the cash register (good POP). The pic showed nuggets with a serving of sauce simmular to my favorite chicken place " Kaines"...a must when out west. When my nuggets arrived they were served with a cup of Bar B Que sauce so sweet and smoky it killed the taste of the nuggets. When I asked where the sauce that showed in the picture was, I was told it woukld be another $1 to get that sauce! I'm sure there is a mistake as this makes no sence at all.
