Went to this place for dinner. Waited for an hour for our order which never came. When we asked the waitress about the order, she said, it was Friday and busy. This is a small town, and the restaurant only had five tables. How busy could that be. We told her, we had to go to the movies, to bring our check. The check showed our food order. We told her, we never received the food, we just paying for drinks. She said "I guess, you're those type of people." When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told she was the manager. We had a great experience at The Pig. We wound up here because it was the only place still serving food late on a Monday. We originally sat outside but it started to rain so we moved inside. The ambience is dark and cozy, nothing chic - think "stars hollow". The wine list is super affordable, we had a bottle of Malbec for $30(!) which was great. This is basically the only restaurant that is open late most nights especially in the winter months after 9 pm in Saugerties and the surrounding areas. If it's before 8 PM, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. Service is what kills this place. The best way to describe the service here is, these are all people that would bold a lot better working in Brooklyn. They could be as unpleasant, rude, condescending and eye rolling all they want to be because city people are used to that type of service and in most cases prefer that type of service. Of course some regular locals put up with that nonsense but overall most long time residents avoid this establishment. I feel unfortunately sad for the Chef. Because it's actually a well put together menu with some unique choices. Definitely a well versed individual put a lot of thought into the dishes and it's executed quite well despite the front of house being negative megatives. While many of the restaurants in the area close their kitchens by 9pm and even earlier on weeknights this kitchen stays open until 11:30PM not because of the extra business they get and it's known for late nights eats. The kitchen stays open until 11:30 at such a fair price point because they have to. So expect a little attitude if you go in here before 8PM and expect an even bigger attitude and subpar service after 9PM because they know you have no other option. read more

The service was incredibly slow. At least 45 minutes to get one burger out of the kitchen and another 30 for the other entrees. The food was decent but there was no reason for such a slow service time as the restaurant was empty. I'm pretty sure they had a toddler in the kitchen because a child was screaming the entire time we were there. On top of this, there wasn't a single light on in the entire establishment... not sure if this was supposed to add to the ambiance but it was giving cave. The service was fast ad waitress pleasant. But the mussels were either not all fresh or served too quickly and not all opened. They did come out and were not very hot. My friend got the mussels as well and had the same issue. The Mac and cheese was eh, and the pork taco was too lean and was slathered in pineapple to the point it was a dessert. The French fries and grilled green beans were the only good things we had. Husband had a gin and tonic that had an odd aftertaste. Must have been a strange tonic flavor. Excellent service, especially as there was only one woman acting as both server & bartender this evening. Portions have shrunk and the quality of food has gone downhill. Crab Cakes were full of filler; Sesame Ahi Tuna was approximately one ounce of fish (four tiny slices) w/ an inedible dipping sauce. My husband's Seafood Curry was overly spiced and the shellfish tough - he said it wasn't very good and he did not finish his meal. The Limoncello dessert was almost inedible - most of that was left behind, as well. The only tasty part of the meal were the french fries. What a disappointment in what was once one of our favorite places in the Village. So both stars for the server and the server alone. read more

I've walked past the Pig more times than I could count, and always assumed from the name that it was a BBQ joint. After my neighbor proposed going here for dinner, I took a closer look at the menu and quickly realized this was not the case. It's spans a Spectrum of American, Asian and other cuisines which is a good amount of versatility. When we came we ended up being the only people here which we were not complaining about (thanks COVID). Service was great as you could expect, and I appreciate the classic details inside. Beer list was very good, with a handful of tap options and a longer bottle list. Lots of local options included as well which is great to see. Even so, mixed drinks are probably the highlight. Pours for Manhattans/Martinis etc are done table-side, are made strong, and are filled so much to the brim that you'll practically need a straw to drink them at first. We got mozzarella and tomatoes like good Italians, and added sweet chili sriracha cauliflower wings. The former was a very nice and simple rendition of this classic. The second I was thinking would be like buffalo cauliflower which I've had elsewhere, however the cauliflower was fried with the sauce served on the side; nevertheless it was a hit. For my main I got the gumbo with brown rice. This was a good portion with plenty of chicken and shrimp. It didn't appear that the chicken/shrimp had been cooked in the sauce and I would've liked to have more crawfish, however it was nice and satisfying as any gumbo should be. I'm also used to gumbo being spicy so I probably should've asked; I had gotten this as a healthier option, and it definitely did the job from that standpoint. The brandy chicken and shrimp was a similar dish with a seemingly richer sauce, so I may do that next time. Also my father in laws fish and chips looked insane, with 2 massive fillets and what appeared to be the right batter for this traditional British dish. Would definitely come back again. Had a great night out with friends. It is a very tight area around the bar area if you are standing there talking to friends it is easy to get in a servers way. So I am hard of hearing and I need to stand close to my friends. A server that kept walking by me. I must have got in her way to many times she made a comment to me to sit down in a chair. The chair she pointed to was a few seats away from my friends. We had some words I said have a nice day. She said to me then I ain't going anywhere. At that point I told my friends it's time to leave. As I was leaving with my wife the server followed us to the door and continued to argue with me. She told my wife that I deal with drunk people all the time. I don't get out often but I have lived in this town for 50 years and my wife is a teacher in this town. Didn't expect to be followed to the door. All of my kids are waitresses and I understand what they go through but to be followed to a door and berated that was just uncalled for. The Pig has really good food, a nice bar with 5 kinds of Tequila (that's what I drink) and a nice inexpensive $1 late night menu. There aren't many places in Saugerties to get a late meal, and as I often work late, I've gotten a few 10 PM dinners and been really pleased. I had roasted 1/2 chicken with smashed yukon gold potatoes and roasted beets. it was so good I ordered it again the next time. need I say more? But some friendly people smoking out front heartily recommended the food and told us about the $5 martini and mussels special so we decided to risk it. So glad we did. Stopped in last night around 10 pm after hiking, as it was pretty much the only place still serving food. The server was very nice. I ordered a burger and it was quite good. It was actually cooked medium just how I ordered it. They offered Cabot habanero cheddar for the burger, which was awesome since that's my favorite cheese! The onion rings were also delicious. Stopped in on the way back to Long Island for a quick dinner Saturday night. Shared the Fresh Mozzarella,Tomato and Basil with my 9 year old daughter. It was the freshest, softest and most delicious mozz I've ever had. My burger was among the best I've ever had as well. Juicy and cooked to perfection. My daughter's Mac and Cheese was gourmet. My girlfriend and I ended up here after being turned away from Miss Lucy because we didn't have a reservation, despite being informed we couldn't make one. I am SO happy we ended up The Pig. Their food is excellent, which you wouldn't necessarily know given the low-key visual appearance of the menu and drinks list. We got the mussels, Salmon with dill cream sauce, wasabi sesame crusted tuna, and sides of mac 'n cheese, salad, spinach, and brown rice. The mussels were tender and juicy with a nice kick of garlic included in their prep. The salmon was cooked perfectly right at medium, and the cream sauce kept the fish tender and juicy with a nice tang. The tuna was something else. I was a bit hesitant being so far upstate, but the wasabi coating provided a great nose-heat on top of a great (and large) cut of fish. The macaroni had an crispy crust on top, the spinach was sautéed in garlic and maintained a bit of crunch, overall I was extremely impressed. At one point a cook came out to ask us how the food was and I'm kicking myself for complimenting him more. We got out of here with a ton of food a couple drinks for under $100, what a fantastic hole-in-the-wall find. read more

Looked on Yelp for a place to eat after 10:30p & the one i found had stopped serving food at 9p but recommended The Pig. It was pretty crowded for a Monday- no seats at the bar. I would really like to make this 3.5 stars. It's a hipster bar, just so you're aware upon stepping through the huge velvet curtain (?) - the seating was kind of awkward. It was just my husband and I, so the hostess looked around (there was one available table) and then put us at the one available table - directly in front of the door. We were there for the $6 burgers on Wednesday. The burger is regularly $13, put any of the toppings (o-ring, onions, bacon, cheese, mushrooms) and choice of side. The waitress was really nice and knowledgeable - my husband asked if the cheesecake was homemade or a Sysco special, she said it's made by a family bakery in Jersey, and they don't buy anything through Sysco. Husband got his burger with all the toppings except mushrooms, with cheddar, and onion rings for his side. I got everything except 'shrooms, goat cheese, with fries on the side, and bacon extra crispy. He ordered his medium rare, I ordered mine medium. Our drinks came out (water, Jameson & ginger ale, beer), all in the same glasses, which I really liked for some reason...? My drink was strong, and they were reasonably priced!! Glory! Frank's burger came as ordered, except it was more medium than he cared for. My burger, however, was RARE. No goat cheese, and one piddly slice of (well done) bacon. That being said, the burger itself was delicious!! If only it was what I had ordered.... before you say it, I know, I could've sent it back. But it was late, it was getting busy, and it was edible. The onion rings were -fine-, but the star of the whole show was the FRIES. Ohhhhh my god, I'll go back just for those!! Not too thin, crispy, hot...they piled on coarse salt, which fell to a pile on the plate under my fries, so they could save on salt costs by skipping the salt or using finer salt, but....not my Bottom line. We had a very disappointing meal, at The Pig tonight. With only 3 other tables filled, we waited over an hour for our food. The problem was that the cook hadn't cooked the rice until he got our order, evidently. When our food arrived, the brown rice was just about raw, and inedible. What cook would serve raw rice? After finding the waitress, and explaining the problem, she comped the meal. I'd really like to speak with the owner, about this problem. Have tried this restaurant a few times. I always try to give a restaurant a few chances in case it's just an off night. They have very weird policies, for example, we were a party of 5 and they absolutely refused to push two small; empty tables, that were next to each other together, and instead, made us wait about half an hour and then we were seated at a square table for 4 with an extra chair. When we asked the hostess why they did this, she said the owner wants it that way. Another time, during cold weather, we were told we had to wait outside on the sidewalk until they had our table ready. Their food is absolutely not worth waiting for, even inside.
