The food here is delicious! I got the Pork Boa Bun, the bun was pillowy and soft, wrapping the delicious pork with pickled cucumbers topping; the Spicy Garlic Pork with rice is amazing, the sauces served with these make it perfect with generous portions. My disappointment was with the Kimchi pancakes, I don't know what I was expecting since I've never had it. They were a bit greasy so I didn't enjoy them. This is a small establishment but clean and there are some seating inside and outside. There's also parking in front. I didn't have to wait long for my food and the staff is pretty friendly and helpful. I would definitely return to try other items on the menu. read more

My recent takeout order at this restaurant missed the mark. I ordered a bibimbap bowl with beef and tofu, along with a fried egg, veggies, and rice. I enjoyed the egg and veggies; however, the beef lacked the bulgogi flavor I like and the tofu was bland. The bowl was heavily concentrated with white rice, which made finding the protein like a game of Where's Waldo. Buns n Rice is a cute little spot that can be easy to miss- sometimes these are the best restaurants for yummy food! Adding to the collection of great restaurants in Kensington - go try this place! The Cardamom Punch was so delicious - cooling yet spicy. My favorite thing was the bulgogi buns. My shrimp burger was good too but the texture was a little weird for me. Simple menu, great food. Haven't tried everything on the menu yet but the snow onion chicken and the garlic chicken are our go-tos. I think this might be my favorite snow onion chicken I've had (the pickled onions compliments the fried chicken, rice, and white sauce so well). I would recommend getting the sauces on the side, especially if you taking it out to go. read more

Great for takeout. What a unique take on bao buns with delicious Korean food. The Kimchi pancake is a new favorite, slight spice with crunchy exterior and you can mix it up with dipping sauce. The Pork Bao Buns were the highlight, such a great sear with pork that melted as you ate it and that sauce was lip licking good. We did get an order of their bimbimbop, meat was a bit dry, not great; just stick with the Bao buns and you'll be real happy. Efficient takeout service. read more

Each bao bun comes with three buns which makes the price a little more understandable. I'd love to come back and try their bibimbap! With a few tweaks, this place *could* be stellar, but it's not there yet. It's a great option if you're local to Kensington but maybe not worth going out of your way for. We got bulgogi tacos and the shrimp burger. Bulgogi was flavorful and cooked well. It was served with cold guac, limp lettuce, and gochujang sauce. Instead of cold, store bought guac - topping it with freshly sliced avocado and some mayo x gochujang sauce would've taken this to the next level. Ditch the lettuce and use cabbage with perilla leaf. The shrimp burger was really tasty but the burger itself was tiny, and the bun to burger ratio was way off. Service is fast. The restaurant doesn't have a bathroom so it's a grab and go or quickly wharf down your food situation. read more

Another great option for bao in a neighborhood I visit occasionally. For my first visit I ordered tofu bao buns and bulgogi bao buns, to take home and split with my husband. The tofu bao buns have more of a Vietnamese flavor profile, with pickled carrots and a nuoc cham reminiscent chili sauce. The tofu is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 4* The bulgogi bao buns have a creamy sauce described as jalapeno mayo. It's a little sweet so probably made with kewpie mayo would be my guess, and it's not spicy at all, but it goes VERY well with the other flavors. The bulgogi is lightly marinated, doesn't taste as heavily marinated as say what you'd get at a Korean BBQ - but that's probably a good thing for this light dish. 5* The buns were a little teensy bit soggy by the time I got them home, but still tasted good. I'd be nervous about ordering the tacos for takeout though as the sauce would likely liquidize them on the trip. I'm definitely curious about the bibimbap though, will probably try that next. read more

As a fan of Korean food, I thought I give this place a try. Their bibibop is pretty good. I like their spicy pork here. You have the option of either rice or noodles. Comes with a fried egg. Their crispy garlic chicken is very juicy and tons of good flavor. I was pleasantly surprised with their pork belly bun. Thick piece of fatty pork which will melt in your mouth. On a friend's recommendation, I snuck through the back roads of Kensington to find Buns N Rice, a family-owned tiny eatery. Why haven't I been here before?!?! We got the kimchi pancakes (smooth and chewy, not too greasy, not too spicy, with just a bit of crunch from the kimchi), the fish tacos (fresh, crisply-fried fish, not fishy at all, with fresh cabbage and smooth sauce in soft taco shells), and the tofu bao buns (fried squares of tofu, deliciously seasoned, stuffed inside soft, fluffy buns with just a hint of crispy lettuce and carrots). We downed the food within minutes, it was so good. No inside dining yet, but the food is well worth it for take out. Give this place a try. I know I'll be coming back soon! read more

Amazing place and another hidden gem in Montgomery County! I didn't get a close look at their sign, but I think they've recently changed their opening hours so just be aware (possibly call ahead to confirm). This restaurant is a small, Korean American deli that serves really awesome bibimbap with egg soup, pork buns, fish tacos and bulgogi sandwiches just to name a few dishes. You order upfront and can either pick-up and leave deli-style or take a seat and they'll serve you. Employees here are super friendly and welcoming. I noticed that they would consistently acknowledge their customers walking in and thanking them as they walked out. What makes it even better is how affordable and quick their service here is. I haven't tried their breakfast options but I would suspect it's just as good. read more

Was in the area at a local brewery and decided to try something new on my way back home. Me and my wife decided to get take out from here and it was awesome. I opted for the bulgolgi buns and they were amazing! I would highly recommend. I think my wife was jealous after trying mine she got the bulgolgi bibibop. I decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat after picking up an order from the frame shop next door. The reviews were great so I wanted to give it a try. My son is also a fan of Korean food, so he was excited. We got an order of beef dumplings and a bowl with jap chae noodles. It was good. It wasn't outstanding, but it was decent for quick eats. Since my son was next level hungry, we decided to eat at one of the small tables inside. And then, it got weird. There is no bathroom (oh, and no drinking water, just bottled, but that's irrelevant...but also, maybe intentional to discourage people from needing to use the restroom?) My son is accustomed to washing his hands before a meal, pretty normal. But, no bathroom to wash his hands. Ok fine, not a big deal, hand sanitizer it is. Halfway into the meal, my son (who is 6 btw) really had to use the restroom. And the non-bathroom thing really became an issue. I've never heard of a brick and mortar restaurant not having a public restroom! Any parent of young children understands that you have very little time to act when it comes to "sudden onset of need-to-pee." As my son was clearly uncomfortable, I asked the owner/employee if there was any possible way for my son to quickly use whatever restroom they had as he was pretty desperate. Nope. So, we literally had to pack up our food, mid meal, to drive home because my son had to pee, bad! And we live 18 min away! By the time we got home, and my son took care of business, neither of us were interested in finishing our meals. Mainly out of frustration, but also partially because the eats were decent but not great enough to return to after such a debacle. I'm guessing this place is better suited as a take out joint, but if that's the case, then don't provide tables for diners. Shame on me for thinking that the no-restroom thing wouldn't be an issue. I definitely plan on returning to the frame store next door, but will drive elsewhere for a quick bite, especially with a child in tow . Also, edited to add: I just looked it up and it is a Montgomery county law that at least one working bathroom must be available for customer use if on-site consumption is permitted! So....the whole "no bathroom thing" looks to be in violation of MoCo law read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to try Buns N Rice - it's gotten rave reviews from neighbors and it's close by and convenient. But alas, I've been cheating myself of tasty Korean food. :( I ordered bi bim bap with bulgogi beef (and the ginger soy sauce) and kimchi pancake. Kimchi pancake - so good! Not super greasy, which is often a problem with them. It was a little thicker and doughier than others I've had the past, but the flavor was excellent, and the accompanying dipping sauce was the bomb. The bi bim bap was great too - super fresh ingredients and a large portion of food. I liked the ginger soy sauce but probably should have gotten gochujang for a more authentic experience. I wish I lived closer because their food is really good. I've tried the fish tacos and the pork buns. The fish tacos are fried with cabbage slaw and homemade spicy kimchi. Their kimchi was spicier than most which I loved. The pork buns are not the dim sum dumpling style, they're a bao style bun. The pork belly is wrapped in lettuce with cucumber, slivered carrots, bao bun and asian bbq sauce. If you like those things, you'll love this dish. read more

The restaurant is very cute! Inside and out. Bright colors and lots of natural lighting. There's an electronic kiosk for food or you can speak to an employee. I had the bao buns and for $18 I was a bit expensive for my tastes. The pork was fresh but too sweet and didn't have the best balance of flavors. Unfortunately I didn't finish my buns. Love this place! Their dumplings are out of this world. They have a lot of filling, they're homemade and delicious. The pork bao bun is my favorite. The bulgogi beef was succulent and well marinated, blended well with the grilled onions, extra mayo, and hot peppers I added, and the bun was toasted perfectly. We started with the meat dumplings (6) which were the traditional medium size- cooked perfectly, filled with lovely seasoned meat, and came with a nice soy dipping sauce. I had the Bulgogi bibibap with jap chae noodles and chose the ginger soy sauce. It was served with a thin egg soup, which was a light soup with thin egg cooked in it, which was not really my style. I loved the bulgogi! Tender and plentiful tender marinated beef, pickled radish, carrots, cucumber, spinach and excellently cooked jap chae noddles all topped with a thinly fried egg.
