Not sure I'm following the collective psychosis that believes Yett Gol is good, let alone anything special. The seolleongtang mostly tasted like the salt that was added tableside. The predominant flavor of the kimchi jjigage was gochugaru. The haemul pajeon didn't have much seafood and came with several burnt spots. The japchae was extremely oily and included very few vegetables. I make better Korean food at home just by watching Maangchi videos. Speaking of videos, the only reason I found this place was through a TikTok, which offered a rave review and showed a packed restaurant. I guess this is how I know FoodTok has officially reached the mainstream, because I'm seeing more and more staged scenarios and dubious opinions. The only thing anybody had anything positive to say about was the rice, which was technically perfect. There is an old adage that goes, "you can judge a restaurant based on how well they cook their rice." But if you have a table full of food and the only thing people want to finish is the rice, then you've got a whole other problem. read more

Ahh I love invigorating Korean food. Came to this place after having a silver spring adventure and we exhausted. This food put satisfying smiles on all our faces. I ordered a tofu soup with miso base and a kimchi pancake for the table. The pajeon was so appetizing I may have forgotten to take a picture before we dug in, and the tofu soup was just very warming. I didn't want anything spicy or I would've gotten a jjigae. I stopped by Yett Gol, because I wanted to undo some of the work from my gym workout. Also, I wanted to try a new spot in the strip of restaurants in this shopping center. The dish was about 16 bucks, which was not bad for the amount of food you receive. Actually, the food was enough for two people...or one really hungry person. ;) While tasty, I thought the fried rice was a bit soggy for my liking, but it was not anything disastrous. Perhaps, that could have been the style of preparation. The service was pretty fast, and my waitress was nice. No frills Korean comfort food tucked away in the corner of the plaza. We had the sullungtang and mul nangmyung. Cold noodles were tangy and sweet, refreshing for this hot summer day. The Sullungtang broth was rich and i like to eat it with minimal salt since i like the pure taste of the broth. I love this place. It is a small, low-key establisment in a strip mall. The writing on the storefront is in Korean and so may be hard to find. The people there are always friendly. They have a varied menu but their beef bone soup is the star. The thick hot seollungtang broth is so satisfying and gives me energy after a long exhausting week. Seollungtang is also a perfect hangover soup. The radish kimchi is excellent - a must for seollungtang. The dogani muchim is a health food as it is full of collagen. It is also delicious here. Older Korean people have always loved eating this because they said it was good for their joints. Nowadays, with all the research on the many benefits of collagen for people of all ages I am glad to have found a place where they make dogani so well. read more

If you want to try some authentic Korean foods, here is the place to go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a hidden gem within a Hispanic Shopping Center, and if you don't look carefully or come without directions, it is hard to find![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had Doen Jang Jigae, which I normally got as a free dish at AYCE KBBQ place, but it has SO MUCH meat in it and I love it!!! My friends got Seol Lung Tang, and shared some with me. You can tasted the natural freshness and richness from the soup, which requires decent amount of time to cook. They provide us with some chili paste to go with it, and it will give the soup another nice aroma. We also ordered Tofu Kim Chi Bokum (steamed tofu with stir-fried kimchi and pork) and I wish I didn't go during lunch on a workday, coz I would have ordered at least two bottle of soju to go with! I have not seen this dish in Northern VA, and we all loved it! If I am in the area, I will definitely visit again. read more

Yett Gol is a small Korean restaurant, located in the Glenmont Shopping Center. Their menu is pretty straightforward, offering various soups, shareable entrees (such as jahp chae, tang soo yoook, hae mool pajeon, etc.), rice dishes, and cold sweet potato noodles. We came here for a late lunch, hearing about their sulungtang - we ordered the regular version. I was surprised that scallions were already added to the soup, as I like to be in control in terms of how much I put in (as I usually put in the whole container); they also had the liquidy dadaegi to add some spice to your broth. The broth was hearty and creamy, and I was surprised at how soothing and tasty it was! We also tried their bibimnengmyun, which was forgettable - you can tell that the sulungtang is the star of this place. We were the only ones dining in at that visit, but the service was welcoming, friendly, and kind. 10/15/23 Back again, but this time I ordered the Korean Pancake and My wife order Sun Du Bo.   This time around, I added a bit of salt and Ranch Dressing (Picked up at Pizza Hut) to the pancake.  Delicious:) Ms. Kim took our order and was there to assist with whatever else we needed.  Ms. Kim looked a little bored, because it wasn't busy when we came in.  Nevertheless, two guests in the restaurant is better than no guests in the restaurant.  We did met The Owner Mike again and he changed his appearance.   He looked happier and younger too.  I say if Darkness Prevails,  (Like the YouTube Reader)Then Happiness is a Godsend. OG traditional Korean food that is a family favorite. Everyone knows this place has the best kimchi jjigae and solleongtang in town. The japchae is on the sweeter side but sheesh it's flavorful and a huge step up from basic h mart japchae. The kimchi jjigae is also loaded with flavor; it's sweeter as well which helps round out the salty savory soup. The ambiance is great, there's Korean TV playing in the background and the decor and table settings are all traditional. We had the restaurant to ourselves but we didn't mind, the server was super chill and let me and my friend catch up for two hours, topped off our hot tea while eating delicious food. 10/10 read more

Lovely hole in the wall family-owned seemingly legit Korean place that specializes in bone broth (seolleongtang), but has a variety of other soups and dishes. TRIPE BONE BROTH (SEOLLEONGTANG): Deceptively simple but complex broth chock full of chives with a solid serving of tripe. It's intended for personal customization so you can add salt, pepper, and red pepper paste to your liking. I added a lot of the red pepper paste and a generous spoonful or two of salt and it was homey and hit the spot. It comes with perfectly made white rice. BANCHON: Excellent Kim chi, sweet pickled radish strips, Kim chi radish, and sesame bean sprouts, all tasty. PRICE: $($) 13.95/most soups including this one, which feels like a steal during these inflationary days. SERVICE: Excellent, friendly, helpful, attentive. HOURS: Open all day, including in the mid-afternoon which was perfect since I couldn't make it over until 2-3pm, when most places are very understandably closed. LOCATION: I saw a lot of reviews complaining about a dingy parking lot and shopping complex. It certainly isn't new but it looks like a standard shopping complex in this area. It can be hard to find so look for the Korean sign (two characters) located close to the inner corner of the shopping center, kitty corner from the Sunoco gas station. This is our go-to local Korean restaurant whenever we want a nice meal without having to drive to Ellicott City, Md or Anandale, Va. They are a friendly, local business in the corner of the Glenmont shopping center right next to a couple other places that you may be interested in checking out. The food is cooked well, served fresh, hot, and with kindness. I have never had a bad meal here and always leave wondering why don't I come here more often? However went there recently for Father's Day and ordered a number of dishes which I will add pictures of. Lastly the owner is super friendly and cares about the food she serves to her diners. They offer a 10% discount when paying with cash. Highly recommend this restaurant and will continue to dine there for the foreseeable future. read more

I'm not sure why many reviews here say this is a "holes in the wall" place as a reference for not fancy/ not a modern restaurant. I don't see any holes, and I can tell the owners tried their best to clean this place, maintain it and even decorate it. Please make sure to use words that won't make them look like they don't care if they do. I went there around 2pm, no one except a table with 2 other Koreans there. The staff greeted me immediately once he heard the bell on the door. He got me the menu and asked if I wanted iced water, but once I saw the other table got tea I asked for tea instead. He was polite, and he even wore his face mask back when come close to me for ordering and bringing my tea. Only waited about 10 mins for my hot boiling tofu soup to be here! I ordered the seafood tofu soup cause I was craving it for a while now, but I realized they are famous for the beef stew here! When he asked the other table how's the beef stew in Korean. (I can understand Korean a little bit so) the customers told him twice how good it was! I bet I have to come back for it later and try it myself. Anyways my tofu soup was great, not much seafood as I assumed but the tofu and the flavor is spot ON! The broth is really good and you can tell they took time to make the base broth. Not many side dishes, but they are all homemade which has its own home twist and have a good flavor. Not something you get from grocery stores for sure. I was so happy and full after having this. It was nice not only it's piping hot and well made, but the service was great and it reminds me of me having a similar lunch in a restaurant in Seoul. I'll definitely come back for the beef stew and the kimchi pancake! Highly recommend this place! It's for anyone! Update - June 2021 This place is still open and appears to be operated by the same management / staff. Accepts both cash and credit card. Tons of free parking in the parking lot. Even in the middle of the pandemic, this place still offers authentic Korean foods. Lots of locals come here for their Korean food. Worth giving this place a shot. The staff who works at the front is extremely friendly and was very helpful. We ordered their soon du bu, seafood pancake and their kimchi chi-gae. The soon du bu has tons of flavor. Given that this soup was shared with folks who can't handle spice, we ordered it non-spicy which still has tons of flavor minus the spice. Tons of seafood and soft tofu throughout the dish. Next time, I'll ask for the spice on the side as a little spice will help bring up the heat. Please note they do put an egg in this dish. Please sure to cook it through if you can't eat raw foods. Looking at the to-go container, seems to only be filled half way. Not sure if this is standard or just an error on their part. The kimchi chi-gae was delicious. The sourness of the kimchi can be felt throughout the dish. So if you like pickles and or kimchi, you will love this dish. It comes with pork and tofu. Please note the tofu is more on the "firm" side so its not as soft as the soon du bu. The seafood pancake is very hardy and best to share amongst 3-4 people. Comes with a side sauce for dipping. Overall, this place is worth giving a try. As other Yelpers mentioned, YES the parking lot here is a little run down, however this place is a gem. Okay, I've been eating here for several years and wanted to update my review. The decor is still 1950's "hole in the wall" but it is very clean so if you are not eating the walls, it shouldn't matter. The food is still very delicious, hot and fresh. The service is, well, serviceable. Server will not be my best friend for life but she did get me my food while it was piping hot and filled my other requests (like barley tea) quickly. The restaurant's customers are still mostly Asian which says they are authentic. They don't dumb down the seasonings or add sugar to the bulgogi for non,-Asian customers like some restaurants. Still a great place for reasonably priced delicious Korean yummies. read more

We ALMOST ended up living right around the corner from Yett Gol, but we were outbid on that house so ended up about 15 minutes away. As such, it's taken us about 10 months to make our way over here to try it out. Now, I am kicking myself because Yett Gol is definitely a hidden gem. We came on a FREEEEEEEEEZING cold night because we heard they are known for their soups and stews. We ordered the Kimchi Jigae, a seafood pancake (because we love those) and tonkatsu (because we hadn't had any since we moved here). We expected to have leftovers but we wanted to try all these. First off, this was by far the best K-pancake (either seafood or kimchi) that we've had since we've moved here and it might be one of the best ever. It was light and flakey and chock-full of seafood, not heavy and doughy as the last few pancakes we've had at other places were. And it was very big, we took about half of it home. The katsu was great, not too heavily breaded, perfectly cooked (read, not dry) and I really liked the sauce they served it with. I'm usually very neutral on katsu sauce that isn't curry. Weirdly it had a little bit of an A-1 flavor to it, but that isn't the only ingredient, and whatever they mixed that A-1 with worked really well. This was served with a little coleslaw which was creamy and delicious. I would absolutely order this again too. The kimchi stew really hit the spot. I think I liked it more than my husband but sometimes he needs to have a dish a few times before he takes to it (it was that way with soondubu... the first time I made it he was neutral but then he started craving it...now he likes it more than I do!) The hot barley drink really hit the spot on a cold night as well. The place wasn't busy on a Friday night because anyone with half a brain stayed home that night, but not us! (I kid, there were a few other people who came too, but it wasn't busy by any means.) The tab was pretty reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. They did warn us that they charge $0.50 a piece for takeout containers but it was worth it to take home our leftovers. This is the best place in MD for authentic bone broth soup. It's a little hole in the wall place, in a strip mall with Staples, CVS, and the old bowling alley (which is now closed). I remember coming here with family during cold winter nights to warm up, and this place def hit the spot this weekend with the frigid temperatures. Winter is coming... We ordered the seafood pancake and two bowls of beef bone broth soup (sul lung tang). The seafood pancake was perfectly cooked - slightly crispy and full of filling and flavor. I do wish the dipping sauce was just a tad bit more flavorful, but the pancake could do without the dipping sauce. Yea... that's how good it was. The bone broth was delicious - just the way I remembered it. It has pieces of brisket, clear glass noodle, and lots of scallion. It is also served with a side of white rice, and spicy sauce to add if you need a bit of a kick. If you're looking to try something hot to warm you from the inside out, I def recommend this place. The service was attentive and the food was served quickly. 3 of us ordered the Soon doo bu seafood soup, which is what we were looking for. My only con was that you could tell the seafood was not fresh, however, with current prices being so high and many local Korean tofu houses closing in the past few years, this stood out as a gem. The use of popcorn shrimps also meant no peeling! The soup came with rice and the usual pickled sides, included in the $13.50 price. Enter Yett Gol l, a simple relaxing restaurant dishing out bomb flavor foods! I ordered the Classic Seol Lung Tang (Beef bone soup with tripe) and Do Ga Nee Moo Chim (Steamed beef tendon with shredded scallions in house special sauce). The beef bone soup is very subtle, you can taste the natural beefy flavor without any added seasoning. If you want a more savory experience, you can add salt. I added salt as I enjoy a bit more flavor. For my entree, the steamed tendon was really good! The house sauce was something of a sweet salty concoction and I applaud the mad scientist who made it!! If you love scallions, this is your dish! You have scallions up the wazoo!! Scallions for everyone! I loved how they sliced and steamed the scallion slightly for a warm yet still crunchy texture. This comes with extra house dipping sauce for the tendon and I say let the tendon swim in it!!! I very much enjoyed eating here! The staff is friendly and attentive. D was surprised to find a korean spot out here, but Wheaton has always been great about diversity and their food quality is good. The restaurant has about 7 long tables (they can sit 8 or two parties of 4.) Prices are cheap ($11-15) and the service is good - definitely mom and pop type shop. Wish I knew about this place sooner! A bowl of the ox bone soup is ALL you need on a cold day. I really look forward to Summer coming around so I can eat the nengmyun (cold buckwheat noodles soup) here. In the sulungtang (ox bone soup), there was a lot of tender meat. I was honestly surprised at how tender it was because usually the meat in sulungtang is quite dry and flavorless.. I also recommend getting the kimchi pancake! They gave it to us on the house which was really nice of them, and it was so good! Really flavorful, and had the perfect thickness and char on the outside. This is the type of restaurant where they only have a few dishes, but they do them all really well. The service is very fast and friendly. Highly recommend trying this place out! read more

We ordered Doganitang which is beef cartilage soup and Naengmyun (cold noodle soup) and as Koreans we can say this place is the most authentic and delicious high quality Korean food hands down. Even the side dishes banchans are incomparable to any other Korean restaurants nearby. We got kimchi, radish kimchi, pickled radish and marinated bean sprouts and they taste extremely fresh and like the ones we ate back home in S Korea.
