I've been waiting to try this place for about a year and finally had the opportunity to try some food tonight. I'm giving a low rating for quality of food and nothing to do with logistics. I got the Golden nuggets (vegan) they were probably the most decent item and my kid ate most of them with no complaint. I also got the Char Siu bao, shrimp tempura roll, and sweet potato roll. The char siu bao wasn't great because of the meat. It was a bit overcooked and tough to bite through. Both of the sushi rolls had a bad after taste. I couldn't tell if it was the avocado or the nori, but something just tasted off. perhaps it was a busy night or someone new to the shift but the quality of the food was not worth the $40 bucks read more

I live around here and this is my go to spot for when I don't feel like cooking (which happens too often) the chicken Katsu is my regular dish, it's filling and tasty. I have tried their bao buns, also good but not the best I've ever had. Their sushi is a solid choice. I love that they have vegan options and unique dishes on the menu. I've been meaning to walk down this Broadway with its wealth of charming eateries and bars with just enough dive. Buntopia is the first place that caught my interest after that turn from Dekalb onto the culinary cornucopia. I saw the Tempura Room Ramen and immediately brought myself to the register. I slammed my money down, and demanded* one hot bowl sans the egg and scallion. And a hot green tea. With just enough time to loosen scarf and set my bags down, the food was delivered to my table. The Tempura Room Ramen is a fried food lovers dream as it has two tempura shrimps and two tempura mushrooms and topped with crab meat, corn, and spinach. This means that even without the egg and scallion, this bowl is loaded with flavor. Priced at $11, this bowl is lunch done right. And just because they prepare healthier options (and vegan bowls, too) doesn't mean that you can't indulge in some fried fare. It's the holidays after all. In a small spot that's kept very clean and invites you to stay and listen to some Yo-Yo Ma, I can't wait to come back. I'll grab a seat facing outside so I can stare at some amazing street art instead of my phone. I'll watch people go by in their big coats as I savor comfort in a bowl. *I would never. Delicious and well worth your money! We got the spicy girl roll, veggie gyoza, shrimpatation bunburger and the mint matcha lemonade. This was a perfect amount of food for two. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. It wasn't busy, there was only one other person there at the time so food came out really quick! Great service during a non-busy time. This place is pretty much flawless. We went there not expecting much, and ended up having really great sushi for the price. I'm talking restaurant quality sushi in the form of fast food. The staff were kind, the wait wasn't long at all, and the atmosphere was nice. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because we arrived only an hour or so before closing, so we have no way of knowing what the place is like during it's busy hours. The food quality itself deserves five stars. (Some of our rolls did fall apart a bit, but that doesn't bother me- personally) I got the mango and the noir. My total came out to about $21. read more

My assumption is that they use better and fresher ingredients that might cost a bit more- but they're able to have sustainable margins by having fewer staff and using a "clean up after yourself" concept. They give you a mochi if you give them any rating on Yelp. The only suggestion that I have is regarding the "ambiance". Music is good, but there's too much light. Even with the self serve concept, the ambiance can still be one of a cozy spot vs a healthy fast food option. But that's just my opinion, you guys are great :) read more

I had the Tom Yam kai ramen - it was really tasty - granted it was not vegan but one of their couple of non-vegan options. I really enjoyed the lemon grassy soup flavor with the ramen though. The chicken was well cooked and not fried or oily. Was spicy sour soupy. Also had the oyster bun which was sooo delicious. 1st time here and I live 4 blocks away! Shame on me!! Ordered the buns , the CLASSIC ( which has pork ) and the VEGAN SOY TEMPURA. They were both GREAT!! Perfectly seasoned, I love they use spinach, and tasted super good. When we left we were thinking to go back and try the Ramen and 2 more buns. And that's what gonna happen one of the following days, so I'll review even their Ramen. I've been here before and the first time I had no complaints. Prices were reasonable and serving portions were nice. This time, I was disappointed that their fillings aren't much. Ordered a few buns and the filling was thin, not enough lettuce which then makes the meat taste dry with so much bun. When I asked for extra lettuce they wanted to charge extra money for it. I'm sorry, but does it really cost anything to put a bigger pinch of lettuce in the bun? It's a small bun. Not sure if I would go back for the food due to realizing they seem to be skimping on the portions now. However staff is pretty nice and polite. New York City is no stranger to vegan sushi, so it's no surprise that this trend has made its way to Bushwick. Buntopia is a brightly lit, new(ish) space underneath the M train that serves up a variety of vegan and non-vegan Asian fusion cuisine. You can find everything from vegan sushi and rice bowls to scallion pancakes ramen here, each made with a variety of fresh vegetables and healthy additions. They have a huge menu complete with pictures- which is helpful for the perpetually undecided like me- and calorie counts for each item. I went with a friend for dinner, and tried both the Pickled Room vegan sushi and the Char Siu ramen. The sushi was really good, complete with marinated shiitake mushrooms, avocado, and micro greens. It also came with a fantastic lingonberry hoisin sauce, which was a really innovative take on traditional hoisin. I wish I had a gallon of that to take home. Like most reviewers have commented, the ramen here is pretty weak- I would probably order something else next time. While mine was a good sized portion, had a lot of toppings, and was reasonably priced, the tonkotsu broth barely had any flavor. In any case, this is a really nice addition to the neighborhood. When I started working in Bed Stuy, a coworker of mine told me about this place he wanted to try, Buntopia. I didn't expect much, I just thought it was another ramen spot. Boy was I wrong...The food is awesome. They have fresh juices and smoothies that are made to order. They have ramen, bunburgers, sushi, wraps, bowls and other small items on the side. They also offer items for people who are vegan/vegetarian and gluten free. Some of my favorite items to get are the Mas and Must Wrap, any of the two vegan Rice Bowls, the Sweet Potato Fries and the Triple Green Juice. The the service is great, staff are super friendly. The decor is cute, It makes me feel like I'm in a field of grass. There are pictures of menu items on the wall. I think they also have an outdoor patio in the back, but I've never been (but will go). My review is ramen based only as thats all I've tried from Buntopia however the menu selection is quite extensive. The location is bright and open with seating for around 20 I guess. The menu is on a board above the kitchen and it can be quite intimidating looking at all the options. I ordered the Tom Yam Kai Ramen and subbed the grilled chicken for pulled pork and it was really good. The broth wasn't as spicy as I like it but it was so good on the cold day that it was in the city. The crab meat they add into their ramen was a welcome addition as well. There aren't many Ramen selections in this area of brooklyn, in fact i don't know of any in Bushwick at all so its a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more
