Good local pizza place, and very busy. If you go you should try their famous salad slice (I know, it sounds like a gimmick but it is truly awesome) go in the afternoon - they are sold out by 3pm. The whole wheat crust is worth a stop as well. Other meals i have tried: The chicken Parmesan is pan fried, which makes the meat tender and juicy. This is a rarity and more restaurants should prepare it this way. A BIG plus to this place is the nearby Shoprite Liquors which has a great selection of craft beer and great wine. We've been long time customers, because the pizza is good. But after this past weekend's dismissively rude service, I doubt we'll go back. They did not have any record of our having ordered a pizza, and were apparently "too busy" to take an order from a customer standing right in front of them. From the complete indifference of the man behind the counter, I doubt it matters one bit that you've lost a customer. I have always liked Buona Pizza. In addition to having a broad assortment of excellent Pizzas and quick service, they have a lovely informal dining room in the back, and a big menu of choices of Italian food including an out of this world Antipasto, and excellent Garlic Bread and various specialty dishes. The Waitress always aims to please, and they have a cold drinks display case you can pick about anything from. My favorite is their Mushroom (half) and Garlic (half) with extra cheese and ask for a Thick Crust if you like it that way, like me. No extra charge, or you can order a Sicilian. Pizza may be Pizza but Buona's is excellent and always has been. Never burned, never dry, never brittle. And, they deliver, too! I have had pizza from here so often...my parents order all the time. I was never disappointed ...then I ordered not once, but twice and both times I believe it was the same person, and they were extremely rude. I had asked for lettuce, tomatoes and onion on the side instead of on my sandwich, as well as oil and vinegar. The response from the man taking my order was as if I was trying to order Chinese food. Told me that it would be ok if he put it on the sandwich but could not put it on the side. It was to the point I was just going to cancel my order, I had to explain why I didn't want it on the hot Sandwich and he finally obliged. Plus I also got double charged lol. I've had their dinners and also their pizza on several occasions, and I am not impressed. I only come here because a friend likes it. I'll suggest we go elsewhere - anywhere! - in the future. About the only things I liked were the thin crust on the pizza and the bread they serve with dinner. The tomato sauce is watery and tastes like it came right out of a can, the chicken parm slices extremely thin, dry and commercial tasting. The waitress was snippy and seemed overwhelmed on a night when there weren't many other people dining. You can get pizza anywhere. You can get it delivered by the cardboard box people. You can stop by your nearest neighborhood pizzeria. Or you can get it frozen at the supermarket (ice crystals optional). It's probably all passable. Some crust. Some sauce. And some grated (usually way too much) cheese to cover up the overall mediocrity. Go ahead, toss on a couple of toppings in an attempt to make things interesting... or, at the very least, palatable. When you've had enough of barely edible or just plain boring pizza and if you're within driving distance of Westfield, New Jersey - and by driving distance, we mean within two hours. What? WE drive three hours for lobster roll - YOU can travel a bit for outstanding pizza, can't you? Anyway, get in the car or hop on a train because we've found the perfect Jersey pie at Buona Pizza. The dough base is a harmonious blend of softness under the sauce and cheese and the right amount of crunch at the crust. And the sauce... oh that sauce. We suspect someone's Nonna from the Old Country is in the back, stirring all day. Ask for a cup of sauce on the side for dipping prior to each delightful bite. And Buona isn't just pizza... they have a full traditional Italian cuisine menu (Nonna is busy) and the smells coming from the kitchen are downright intoxicating. We often plan to sample fare other than their pizza when we go, but the pizza is sitting right there as you walk in the door, and once we see it and smell it, we gotta have it. Maybe next time we'll be strong... and get the pizza to-go for later. Well? Are you drooling yet? Pretty good pizza, I would say the best in Westfield with Sorrentos coming in at at a close second. I'd say the sauce is a bit sweet/tangy which I like. I always ask them to do a thinner crust. This is pretty much a take out place as the inside is run down and just a bit dark/unwelcoming, but thats OK because I usually take my pizza home with me to stuff my face like an absolute behemoth in the comfort of my own home. It tends to be embarrassing watching people stare at you while you house a large pie to the face all alone in a restaurant establishment. Anyways, go try Buona, its enjoyable, but definitely not NY pizza. read more

Waaaay beyond good neighborhood pizza. I am from Brooklyn, work in Manhattan and live in Jersey City and when I want a really good pizza I travel 25 minutes west - bypassing thousands of pizzeria's that resemble Buona in every way except the food. That may sound a bit crazy, but I am a pizza snob, have tried pizza in a number of towns, states and countries - including Italy - and have NEVER had better pizza. I dare you to find better. 1st time trying this place as I've been trying all different places in the general area & after several disappointments I'm happy to say this is one of the 2 best so far. Had delivery of plain pie(best way to tell how good a pie is to get plain)--quoted 45 mins arrived in 30. Asked for thin crust was done perfectly(crust no thicker than the cheese & not thick near the ends like most places), golden brown(the way i like it). Sauce pretty plentiful(could taste it every bite) & tasty with a bit of oil. Good amount of spices though I still added some garlic powder & red pepper flakes(personal choice). Also got an eggplant parm sandwich which was very moist & juicy. Eggplant was fresh not the factory produced "Dominex" kind. Only complaint was cheese was only in a couple of bites next time I order I will mention & if it's corrected I'll upgrade my review to 5 stars. read more

We recently ordered 3 sandwiches on a Sunday, 2 of which were cheesesteaks. These 2 sandwiches were sub-par and thats putting it mildly. They were very dry and had very little cheese. The lack of cheese helped with the dryness. They were so bad that most of these 2 sandwiches ended up in the garbage. The third sandwich, a sausage and peppers sandwich was very good. We have ordered food from Buona's many times before without any issue, so maybe it had something to do with it being a Sunday, i.e., different staffers, etc. I probably will order from them again....maybe not. read more

There was a rain storm and food was taking over and hour and 15 minutes, so called to see where the food was and woman was extremely rude while i was trying to be nice since i am in the business as well. First time and last time ordering. I ordered on line for 7:00 delivery. Delivery arrived 15 minutes late which I understand on a busy night. Order missing salad so I called, waited on hold for 10 minutes to explain what happened. Put on hold again and then same person told me I can get a food credit. I requested my money be returned on my credit card. Put on hold again. Obnoxious lady yelled at me saying "what's wrong with a credit...you're never coming back? Wow. Why is it difficult to just return my $6? An apology for forgetting the salad and my money returned in the way I paid is appropriate. I don't even care how the food tastes. Buona has been around for many years and remains one of the busiest pizzerias I have ever eaten at and ordered delivery from. The food is good, the selections are excellent, and their repeated competition wins in the town of Westfield speak for themselves. The place is clean, the service is fast, and nothing is overpriced.
