After interviewing and consulting with three well-known clinics in the Denver metro area, I…read moreselected Michael J. Taravella, MD at the UC Eye Center to perform my cataract surgery. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this provider to take my feedback into account. I found Dr. Taravella's bedside manner to be unprofessional and disappointing. During my pre-operative appointment, the nurse repeatedly said the doctor would be in shortly to review what would be happening during my surgery. I could hear other physicians meeting with and speaking directly to their patients, but I did not see or hear from my doctor prior to surgery. Another physician did come in and clearly explained what would be happening, which I appreciated. I did not interact with Dr. Taravella until I was already in the operating room. Even then, during the first eye surgery, he did not speak to me at all and instead conversed with what I assume were fellows present during the procedure. During one of my four post-operative appointments, I waited approximately 55 minutes to be seen. Dr. Taravella spent a total of about four minutes with me and simply stated that I was "healing nicely." He did not review my vision prescription, share my eye pressure results, or address the questions I had documented during my initial screening, specifically whether the ORA testing produced different results than my initial consultations. This was particularly frustrating given that this testing incurred a significant out-of-pocket cost that was not covered by insurance. For clarity and full transparency, I want to note that the pre-op and post-op staff, check-in staff, and other post-operative physicians were outstanding. I saw three different physicians across my four post-operative appointments, all of whom provided excellent care. My concerns are specific to the surgeon who performed the procedure. In hindsight, I wish I had selected a different physician for my surgery.

The care and compassion from the doctor and his NP at the time was great! I don't usually write reviews, but today decided that Dr. Levinson deserved a shoutout for how happy I STILL am with the results. Just had my eyes checked for the first time in a few years (moved out of state so can't follow with him anymore) and my astigmatism is returning a bit which I was told would happen but overall vision is still 20/20. At the young age of 47, just need to start using readers! So very happy that I spent the money 18 years ago and invested in LASIK surgery and trusted Dr. Levinson. It was a good experience then and I am still happy now. If you are considering LASIK surgery, this is who you should go with.

Left town with no doctor covering her and we didn't get results for an extra week. AFter many calls to her office with no return, I finally had to go online to Children's Hospital portal and brace myself and hope I could understand the written report from the Radiologist myself. Additionally her charges are insane as she is billing (even in the outpatient center in Highalnds Ranch) "hospital charges" her dr. visit charge was discounted by insurance to $500 as my responsibility just for an eye appointment. I requested a discount due to horrific customer services and she apologized and took ownership of her issues, but said no to discounting the rates. And even billed for the call to discuss my daughters scan a week and a half late when I had already pieced together the info myself. It is very telling that Children's offered a discount as they felt it was warranted, but UC Medicine and this doctor wouldn't GREEDY DR!!!!! GREEDY UC MEDICINE. You are better to find someone who actually cares.

Colorado Eye Surgeons was fantastic. They provide comprehensive & complete eye care. They even had…read morea camera to examine the eyes instead of dilation. (Not all eye docs have this technology.) The office space had lots of natural light with big windows & plenty of parking. The receptionist was friendly & helpful. I've seen both Dr. Pennington MD (Ophthalmologist) & Dr. Rocken OD (Optometrist). Dr.P handles surgeries & specializes in LASIK, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration & Diabetic Eye treatments just to name a few. Dr. Rocken focuses on personalized eye health & care, like eye exams & treating eye problems. Dr. Rocken is fluent in English & Spanish too. Both doctors were awesome & easy to talk to. They were timely & explained everything clearly as well.

He is an exceptional clinician, and a strong patient advocate. My insurance would not allow me to have surgery at either of his regular surgery centers; he went above and beyond and found a center in my network!! Amazing!! He is knowledgeable, an outstanding communicator, and respectful to his patients and the staff he collaborates with. I highly recommend Dr. P and his staff; they truly are extraordinary!
