Went to Chicago for a day trip and grabbed food to go at The Burger Bar. First things first, the manager is phenomenal. He was chatting with us as we waited for our food and even turned us on to a monthly special that he insisted we should come back for because it's amazing. The decor in the building was nice, it wasn't over crowded and the staff was super friendly. This spot was definitely a whole vibe. I got a bacon burger and my husband got a build-your-own burger as well as fries ;). We had quite the drive home to Michigan but we demolished our food as soon as we got home. The candied bacon was delicious and that's coming from someone that traditionally won't order bacon because I prefer to make my own. The fries were crispy and even after our long drive were tasty. My husband said his burger was on point and is looking forward to trying them in the future. We will definitely be back when in Chicago next and thanks to the manager's suggestion it will hopefully be by the end of the month. read more

I made a reservation for my daughter and I and when we arrived, we told the host. He said it would be a few minutes. There was a party of 3 before us who didn't have a reservation, and when a table opened up, he sat them first. We continued to wait and were sat about 15 minutes later. I know he forgot that we had a reservation because I made it on Open Table and they contacted me later, believing that I was a no show. (Once I explained the situation and even described our conversation we had with the host, they confirmed that we were there and awarded me the points.) He was very nice but I just feel in being so chatty with everyone he forgot to check us in. Anyway they have a variety of burgers or you can build your own. I was in town for a few days and stumbled across Burger Bar because it was within walking distance of my hotel. I was happy I did. The server was excellent! She managed to have a little small talk, gave me enough time to decide, and was on top of everything I needed. The build your own burger is great. You get to choose your own toppings so everyone can get what they want to top their burger. Prices were moderate, especially the booze, but it is in the city in Michigan ave... The burger was a little dry, but eatable. My onions were missing on both orders. There was barely a "smudge " of mayo and mustard on the bread. The lady that took the order was very patient and said, "Take your time and call the other person back to see what she wanted on the cheeseburger. Anyway, she had left the area when my order came up and the person that gave it to me had barely walked in, hung his coat and changed shoes. I really don't know if he washed his hands or not. One thing for certain, no one pulled those locs back or covered their heads with a net or scarf. And secondly, his buddy had leaned over the counter to plug his phone in!!! My friends and I were looking for a restaurant near our hotel. We decided on burgers and made a trip to Burger Bar Chicago. From the time that we stepped through the door, we received stellar service. We were greeted immediately and seated shortly after. Within 2 minutes, we were given water and told that our server would greet us soon. Our drink orders were taken promptly and the food order was taken once our drinks were delivered to the table. The food was hot and fresh. My burger was thick, juicy, and cooked the perfect temperature. The fries were fresh and seasoned nicely. I enjoyed every bite!! I was impressed with the level of service that I received. The server was attentive and the manager was polite, kind, and hospitable. I came here with my girlfriend, we ordered the triple cheese Mac & Cheese, a burger each, she had truffle fries and I had roasted cauliflower. I found the experience here frustrating. I came in and no one mentioned that there was a QR code on a paper flyer for the menu. Then I asked for a menu and wasn't told that. Then the server came back and then on the third opportunity to tell me that I needed to scan the code to see a menu was I told that. This is a very typical gourmet burger place. Expensive food, a thick slab of ground beef stacked on top of thick slabs of onion in between a thick bun. If this is to your taste (it's not to mine), this place is fine. The sides were pretty mediocre. Mac and cheese and the roasted cauliflower had zero flavor, the truffle fries were OK. Burgers were done well - again, not to my taste, but done well so I didn't ding them for it - and if it's your taste, you will like them. Walked inside and they were blasting some rave music at 11:30 AM on a Monday and it was just a bit much, meanwhile the interior is sparsely decorated with zero character or flavor. Waited nearly 30 minutes for our burgers, server wouldn't bring out a bowl of lemons for our drinks (which has never been refused anywhere else else)... the service, ambience, and sad sack sides is what dragged this place down to three stars. read more

After which the hostess directed us to a table in the front which we didn't prefer. She then asked us where we wanted to sit. The waiter and I had a little issue when i asked about the next table getting their food before us that ordered after us. He have a smart answer which really turned me off. My fair maiden ordered herself a Twisted Tea on tap while we were enjoying a nice Saturday afternoon date. I decided to take a little sip and it absolutely changed my mind about the entire drink. I typically do NOT like twisted tea, but this one was otherworldly. This is the only place I have ever been to that has had this beverage on tap. The presentation was impeccable, the glass was perfectly chilled with just the right amount of ice, with a lemon wedge on the rim. My boyfriend got the hot and smoky stacker which had delicious bbq pork and sausage. Really unique flavors. We got a chocolate cherry pie shake to share that was so worth the calories. They are short staffed but you wouldn't know it because they were so attentive and fast. It was quiet at first, but then a basketball game started, so the bar filled up and got quite noisey. Tonight was our second visit to Burger Bar Chicago and both visits have been wonderful experiences. Burger Bar meets all your needs for a great bar to gather with friends, catch-up, watch a game, drink some brews, and eat good food! From the moment you walk in the door, service is welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We've loved our host-greeter and servers both times! The drink menu is extensive and too-notch. I get their house 1837 Red Ale and it is delicious. My husband got an IPA the first time and Fat Tire tonight. They have a great local and regional selection. Last time we both got build your own burgers and chicken sandwiches. But tonight we got named burgers. My husband got the firehouse stacker and loved the flavors. Very hearty. Spicy, but not overpowering. He got the side of sweet potato fries and enjoyed them. One side is enough for one person. I got the Wild Bill Bison burger and loved it. Not sure if I will ever be able to get something different. The goat cheese and tomato remoulade were divine. I got the side of parmesan truffle fries and it was totally worth the $2 up charge from regular fries. Prices were reasonable and the space is clean and open. We do get reservations through open table, which is a nice way to assure you have your place beforehand. I haven't had this good of burger in a very long time! It was juicy and delicious! The fried pickles were so good! The breading on them was something I had before! Definitely worth ordering and would order it again! The waitress was very friendly and fast, even gave us tips on where else to eat in the city, since we are on vacation. Service was incredibly slow. The restaurant was relatively full and it definitely seemed like there weren't enough people working. It was 30+ minutes between me getting seated and receiving my food. I wanted to order a shake when my food was dropped off, but the server put down my food and bolted, so I didn't have a chance. When she finally circled back 20+ minutes later, I asked if I could get a shake to go. It took another 20 minutes for the shake to be delivered without a straw. After I paid the bill, I requested a straw for the shake and was given a standard straw, which isn't suitable for a shake's thick consistency. For one thing, it has a good name because it feels more like a bar. It can even be said the drinks are better than the burgers themselves. Burger Bar is in the South Loop surrounded by big ass buildings so it can be hard to find. Looks pretty nice inside, especially for a sports bar, which it seems they're going for a fancy version of. The location and atmosphere of course mean high prices. A convenient option for those walking back from the Museum Campus. It's at the corner of Michigan and Roosevelt. This also is close to the Roosevelt CTA station. Forget about the burgers for a second, and let's talk about the beers. It's $5 for a can of Old Style. That's the cheapest you can get, as it's a few bucks more for beers on tap. Garbage. How expensive are the burgers then? Fucking expensive. It's $17 for the Build Your Own Impossible Burger, which doesn't even include any toppings. According to the menu, it's no charge to add lettuce, onions, and tomatoes, but you have to choose these first. It's a couple bucks to add other toppings. As for the burger itself, it was good. We didn't get any sides. Already had paid too much. They have fries of course, and truffle fries if you feel like spending even more money for a little ass side. Good flavor in the vegan options for a burger. It's good they have some choices for everyone. The prices are out of whack. read more

It was really hard getting their attention since they were all chatting behind the bar and seemed distracted. They were very friendly tho... The food was good, nothing special. The service is excellent and attentive, and if you're in need of a burger in the South Loop, Burger Bar has some interesting menu items that I haven't seen elsewhere. We've been here off and on for years and the staff are always exceptionally friendly. Service can be slow from the kitchen, but we know to expect that. The burgers are comprised of very high quality ingredients and prepared well. The hidden gems are the chicken and shrimp burgers. Excellent! The beer selection is also solid. We like the sweet potato fries and tots as well. The space is good sized, sports bar like and can get slammed if there are nearby Soldier Field or other events. But the service was good, the place was clean and organized and seemed to be running smoothly. Their selection of burgers was impressive - not so much for variety but definitely for creativity! Since I'm always on the hunt for a solid veggie burger I had to try theirs and I'll say, it lived up to the claims! It was so tasty, crispy on the outside but soft in the middle, very flavorful and perfectly matched with a delicious bun and toppings. The parm truffle fries are legit, and those aren't always easy to do well! The homemade chips and guacamole was good, the chips were a little spicy for my taste but still good.
