Best burger place around!!!! Great milkshakes and Italian sodas. Haven't tried anything there I haven't loved!

This was a fun little burger joint in the middle of nowhere. Friendly people all on first name basis. Good selection of burgers that tasted homemade and steak fries that were pretty perfect. I like that they use Thousand Island dressing on their burgers. Free refills on drinks was a bonus we didn't see coming. read more

If you're on a trip to Crater Lake, or down to CA, or points close-by, stop in Dunsmuir to walk around, take in some of that small-town feel, and eat at Burger Barn. My friend and I had the pulled BBQ pork sammich and Barnbuster, and stopped on the way down again for a Barnstormer and Mushroom/Swiss -- all four were some of the best roadside burgers we'd ever had. Fries were fluffy and hot, and the mint and butterscotch shakes were a perfect dessert...fresh and not too heavy or sweet. Service was excellent, seating was cozy but plentiful (plus outside patio in the summer), and prices were more than fine. It's the kind of place that makes you both happy and sad that it's not (even a local) chain. It's definitely a standard stop on the road north for me now, as long as I'm remotely close. Cute little burger place on the main street in Dunsmuir. However, they have outdated menus on the counter, so when we chose something on that menu, they said that that is an old menu and we needed to pick something from the items listed on the board over the counter. That was a little inconvenient when one of us was outside with the dogs. They have spritzers over the outdoor seating area which was really nice in 95 degree weather. Great little burger joint to stop off at and grab a meal. Service was wonderful, and they even pampered our little pups. We just had your standard cheeseburger and fries but they were cooked perfectly, and the accompaniments were fresh & crisp. We stopped to get the crispy chicken burger to go on our way from the Bay Area to Crater Lake, and while the burgers were tolerable (perhaps a slight notch above a mcchicken, for 5x the price), what was intolerable was the wait- we were standing there for nearly half an hour for BURGERS. They weren't even mind-blowing my good ones! Plus they served the group that came after ours first, which is a pet peeve of mine. Food was tasty and the service was fantastic. Extremely nice lady who was running the place was very friendly to my 2 year old daughter which after a long road trip was greatly appreciated. 5 people in our party. All agreed the fries were some of the best ever! 3 had frostee swirls and loved them. But the burgers were disappointing as was a patty melt described as on rye but came on whole wheat. Mini corn dogs also disappointed. Two words BANANA MILKSHAKE! If there was anything that exemplefied americana this joint is it! Burgers, fries, milkshakes and onion rings. Not to mentions a large collection of military men decorating the walls. The staff was friendly, the place was immaculate and the food was chock full of cholesterol. What is more american than that. I have been going to Burger Barn since I was a small kid some 40 yrs ago, now I'm dating myself.. This place hasn't missed a beat. I took my 3 girls, nephew for a stop on the way up to my mom's in Mt Shasta, food was awesome, kids loved the burgers, fries & shakes and I went old school with the Barn Buster. The owner was great, friendly, food was top notch, it's no wonder it keeps getting better. I think she told me she has owned it for the last 13 years. My hats off to the Burger Barn in Dunsmuir. Easy on and off the freeway. If you are heading up or down I-5 and you don't make this place a stop, you are truly missing the boat. read more

My last stop before going to Oregon. Was a decent burger. I ordered the Ortega burger. Was much better than a in-out burger I would say. Cozy place. Gave me refills on my drink without asking so I was happy. There's a nice outside area to sit and eat. Got to do that though in the summer. I'm a fly fisherman and the Burger Barn is a fly fisherman-friendly eatery that serves excellent burgers (they bake the bread for the rolls fresh each day). And yes, their milkshakes are to die for. Great stuff, fast service, and a fun atmosphere. Right in downtown Dunsmuir (so you can get back to the river after you've eaten). Since I first wrote this, the Burger Barn has added a pulled pork sandwich that is to die for (I don't know if they're going to continue offering it). They also put in an expensive soft-serve machine, and while I'm avoiding that stuff these days, my daughter loves it to death. The service is typically fast (important when I want to get back on the river), yet the food is way better than fast food. Four stars. read more

Was on business last week heading up I5 and pulled off in Dunsmuir looking for lunch. Driving through town noticed The Burger Barn, cute little place on the south end of downtown town. Very clean, very friendly, indoor seating or a nice patio.. Reminded me of the roadside burger places I use to enjoy as a kid, ummm several years ago. Seems to be a hit with the local crowd from the way a lot of the customers were greeted on a first name basis. Food is great, hambuger is picture perfect before you even take a bite, fresh lettuce, tomato and just the right amount of red onion smile back at you with freshness. Fries were golden and crisp without being greasy. I give it a full 5 stars and am in hopes my travels take me back there again soon. read more

We stayed in the area for a few days and on our last day we decided to hit up a local eatery to celebrate the end of an awesome trip. Burger Barn fit the category of local and authentic. The place has been opened for 40 years according to the lady behind the counter. She seemed to be one of the owners which makes me believe she must have been very young when the place first opened. Even though it seems everyone knows everyone else in that town, we were always greeted with kindness, especially at Burger Barn. The lady made us feel welcomed and helpful as she took our order. The place was jumpin with many people coming and going, but our order didn't take too long to arrive. Our group ordered chicken and beef burgers, grilled chicken and friend chicken burgers, fries, mozzarella sticks, homemade milk shakes... oh my it was delicious! So much so that we kept shoving food in our mouth even while we were full. The shakes are awe-some! I asked to have a chocolate and vanilla mix and the lady totally did it for me. The place sits people indoor and out and their menu seems extensive and well priced. They even have veggie burgers for any vegetarians out there! In this tiny town of only one grocery store, you have to come and visit this quaint little city of yesteryear and have lunch here. The place is laid back, delicious and fun. We shall return someday! PS: Beware of the LOUD horn the fire department likes to sound... we were told by locals that it's simply to scare the tourists! Small thrills of the locals haha read more

It's a cute little spot on the main street, which is easy to find. We had heard a lot of people raving about this place, and had high expectation, which were sure exceed. There are many options, and the portions were definitely generous for the price. I didn't quite enjoy the time wait, but it also wasn't horrendous. (Keep in mind I had a take out order for 5). Driving north to Oregon, my family randomly stopped to eat at Burger Barn. I just couldn't face the fast food option. We expected a long wait, but the food was ready pretty fast, and it all tasted delicious. We were all so pleased with it that we made a point of postponing lunch on the way back four days later to eat at Burger Barn again. I would say, however, that the bathrooms could use some love. They are about on par with your average gas station toilet. read more
