San Diego burger aficionados, we've got movement on my top burger list with Burger Bench taking its place as one of the best burgers I've eaten here in San Diego and anywhere. Thanks to my girlfriend's bosses for inviting us to dinner here at Burger Bench, which was our first experience eating here. The food alone is why you should visit Burger Bench, but it's the entire experience from walking to the restaurant, entering the restaurant, sitting in the restaurant, and enjoying the delectable food and unique non alcoholic beverages. Burger Bench, where have you been all my life? We might have just met, but I can see us having a long relationship. Part of the reason I'm not too familiar with Burger Bench is because I rarely travel to Escondido even though this restaurant is located 15 minutes away from where I live. I got to meet the owners of Burger Bench, whom I can tell are really passionate about their business and are probably the main reason Burger Bench has been a success. We met my girlfriend's bosses at 6:15pm and the place was packed with the restaurant completely filled and many people waiting for a table. I'm sure the high 4 1/2 star Yelp rating and over a 1000 reviews doesn't hurt. According to one of the owners, Burger Bench has been opened for three years, so for it to maintain its high Yelp rating and have the number of reviews they have is a strong testament to how good this restaurant is. Burger Bench is located in the heart of Escondido on Grand Avenue where they're located amongst old school storefront businesses. The allure of this restaurant besides the awesome food is the ambience of Burger Bench. I loved the red brick walls, the open skylight roof, the wooden deck decor, the white wooden bench seating backing, and the nostalgic wood and metal elementary school seats. Their self service soda machine isn't the typical Coke or Pepsi sodas. Their sodas are from a local business called Stubborn Soda with flavors like Pineapple Cream Soda, Agave Vanilla Cream Soda, and Black Cherry with Tarragon. For a non-alcohol drinker like me, I was in heaven with these tasty sodas. There is plenty of seating inside and there's an outside patio. For parking, it's mainly street parking. Even though there's one television in the corner of the bar area, adding another television on one of the red brick walls would be great for sports fans. Sitting in the main dining area made me appreciate the environment, allowed me to people watch, and I got to bask in the ambience of the Burger Bench space. Their menu boards are large televisions above the cash register, you order your food and drinks from the friendly staff, and the food is brought to your table. The time we visited was really packed, so you might have trouble finding seats as it is first come, first serve seating. There are a lot of interesting burger choices, which caused me to have a little difficulty deciding what to order. I decided to order the Sunrise burger, combo of seasoned natural fries and beer battered onion rings, and a combination of truffle parmesan fries and truffle parmesan tots. The Sunrise burger comes with a handmade fresh certified angus beef patty, thick smoked bacon, a sunny side up egg, crunchy tots, cheddar cheese, bench sauce, and encapsulated by brioche buns. My first bite was heavenly. The meat was substantial, juicy, and cooked medium. My first bite with the yellow yoke breaking combined with the smoky bacon, the crunchy tots, melted cheddar, bench sauce, and the thick brioche bun just sang melodically to my taste buds. It was OMG Yummy! The natural fries and onion rings were good, but what blew my mind were the truffle parmesan fries and tots. Those were like crack and I've never had crack, but they were so addicting. All of the fries, tots, and onion rings kept their crunch and were so delicious. When I savored each bite of the truffle parmesan fries and tots, I tasted a citrus component, but I was told there was no citrus. Maybe it's a secret ingredient, but whatever were in those, you've got a customer who is proudly addicted to them. Besides the tasty sodas I had, I also ordered a root beer float. That root beer float was top notch like everything else I ordered. I asked one of the owners if they had plans to expand, which she replied that they intend to, but location is something that is a priority to her and the other owners. I just want to apologize to consumers South of the 8 freeway. I'm sorry that you can't experience the yumminess, the thirst quenching, and the ambience of Burger Bench, but trust me when I say that it is worth the time and drive to venture out to Escondido to experience this jewel of a burger place. Burger Bench, it might have taken me awhile to introduce myself to you, but after my first experience, we'll get to know each other a lot more and more and more. That awesome! read more

Came here last night after a brutal drive back from Mammoth. We were starving so this was the perfect stop. SERVICE - The cashier taking our order was really nice and quirky. He made some suggestions and definitely started off our dinner well. I wish I looked at his name tag to get his name. FOOD Mac n Cheese Burger - This was their special for the week so we had to order it. It was a burger topped with a fried mac n cheese ball/patty. Whatever shape you want to call it. This was actually too overwhelming. Fried mac n cheese balls are already a meal in itself and very rich. Take it and top a burger...sounds like a good idea but it took away from the burger itself. The items separately were good though. Sunrise Burger - Topped with bacon, a fried egg, tots, and their bench sauce. This was very good. The runny egg and the crispy tots made the perfect combination. The bench sauce was tasty as well. Truffle Parmesan Fries - This was just okay. It tasted like normal fries and the parmesan and parsley kind of just fell to the side. Didn't really bring much flavor to the fries. S'mores Shake - I personally did not enjoy this one because the marshmallow flavor seemed a little too artificial for me. I do like that they topped their shake with a real s'mores and the marshmallow was actually toasty! Nice touch. Overall, this was a decent burger restaurant. My husband and I were visiting the San Diego zoo safari and could not resist the opportunity to visit this little burger gem again. I ordered a recent favorite, the slider with fig jam and it was as delicious as I remembered. I also tried the Brie melt with apple and fig jam that was also goood and probably my new favorite. However, I am a huge fan of Brie cheese. I also split an order of half French fries and half sweet potato fries, I really enjoyed the sweet potato fries and so did my husband who is not usually a fan of sweet potato fries in general. We both ordered there milk shakes, I got the salted Carmel with pretzels and my goodness I'm so glad I did, it was the best milk shake I have ever had. My husband had peanut butter with chocolate sauce and he said it was was the most delicious shake he has ever had, that's saying a lot, he is a milk shake connoisseur! My little one had the corn dog kids meal that came with fries, I tried one and it was really good. The batter was one of the better that I've had. Hands down this is one of the best burger spots I have tried since living in SoCal. What made it even better was that I was not expecting myself to fall in love with this place so quickly! This is the best burger place in town. Also has great salads and food for the kids. Bench burger is my favorite! Th Mrs. gets the Cobb Salad. Kids get the corn dogs or bench burger. The wings are also delicious! We came for breakfast for the first time and that was great too! The breakfast tostado's were awesome (according to my wife). I got the chicken and waffles. Burger Bench has the three slider sampler where you can choose from different burger types. I was in the area and stopped here for dinner. There is street parking or the lot behind the restaurant. This place is a you pay first and then get your meal. If you're eating at the restaurant then they bring your order to you. I ordered the 3 slider sampler which are mini burgers. I got the cheeseburger, BBQ, and the chicken club. The cheeseburger comes with the beef patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their special sauce. The BBQ comes with the beef patty, bacon, cheese, arugula, tomato, and BBQ sauce. The chicken club comes grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. There are condiments available by the foundation drinks dispenser. They have mustard, ketchup, hot sauces, salt, and pepper. The utensils are also here. The sliders were delicious and the patties were hot. They were full of flavor and the lettuce and tomato were fresh. I'm very happy that I was able to enjoy the food here.
