I ordered the Swiss Mushroom Grass-fed Wagyu beef patty and every bite was like an explosion of tantalizing beef, Swiss, Mushroom, and garlic aioli. My hands and mouth quivered with anticipation as I raised the burger for another bite. This was not just eating lunch, this was a burger festival extravaganza. Stopped in here on a whim with a friend to grab a bite and chat about life. It was a really good experience and I need to come back with an appetite to truly sample their menu. The Burger Bench is located on Grand Ave in Escondido and it's a great place to grab a B&B (Beer and Burger). There's outdoor and indoor seating and you can always hang out at their bar. The decor is nice and family friendly, but the inside seating often felt a tad cramped up; but again, this is a diner experience and not a restaurant. The hostess and wait staff are friendly and always wanting to meet our needs and answer our questions; do not be discouraged by 1st impressions (staff with piercings and tattoos). We sat at the bar and I truly loved the way the bartender was patient with our questions about what beers were on tap and their distinct flavors. He was kind and offered many samples before we could settle on which ones to get. I recommend the Belching Beavers Peanut Butter :) They've got a plethora of beers and a ton of burgers, fries and bites of that nature. We just ordered the truffle fries to start and they were excellent! Amongst the burgers I saw being served were sliders done 3 ways and they've got the deluxe egg-on-top burgers. I'm pretty sure I can customize any style I want too. I've gotta come back with an appetite! I had the sunrise burger. The hubs had the black bean burger. My daughter had the mini corn dogs. We shared truffle parmesan fries. I liked my burger - thick meaty bacon, smashed tots, and a runny egg on a brioche bun. It was tasty, but I almost felt like, "hey, what's this burger doing in my delicious breakfast sandwich?" You cannot go wrong here, whether you're getting a classic or even one of their amazing veggie/vegan options. We come here often, with and without our kids. We love sitting at the bar and having lunch, the bar is small so there's not room for many more people. Great beers on tap, rarely a long wait for food so it's a good choice for lunch during the weekday also. Friendly and casual atmosphere, so glad it's on our regular rotation. Even tho this place is usually packed, the service and food are great- two thumbs up. I ordered for pick up service online and the website was easy to maneuver- user friendly which is super important. And you can order on your mobile phone, I just hate when websites get funky because you have to order on a desktop. My order was placed around lunch time but even so- it was ready to be picked up within 15mins. I drove up to the front of the restaurant, they have a curb side pick up spot and you just text the number on the outside sign or on their website and they bring it out to ya- masked up and all! I loved how they even ask you on the website when ordering - how you want your sides like extra crispy tots. Yassss- my favorite!!! And sure enough, they were fabulously delicious. Solid lunch joint. I came here in a hurry on a lunch break and ordered a grilled cheese and cup of tomato soup. It was a pretty simple, yet satisfying meal. The service was super friendly and quick! Only lacking one star because they didn't include napkins or spoon in the bag, I had to ask for it. Not usually a huge deal, but I would've been SOL since I was eating in my car. Worst place I have ever been too. Here's the story . Went to Burger Bench (Escondido) for a breakfast they have posted on a big sign out side only to find out it's only served before 11:00 am. I walked up to cashier after driving in circles to find a parking spot. I had to park around the block. Anyway she told me if I only wanted coffee to walk over to the other register so i followed her direction.A gentleman in an Hawaiian shirt was pouring two beers , he turned and asked me what I wanted, so I explained I wanted a coffee , and the cashier sent me over to this register. He said ok , I will be right with you. After he filled the beers, he walked away clear across the restaurant to deliver them . I was absolutely fine with that, he even chatted up with the customers and went outside on the street to deliver and chat up some more. As I waited a while I noticed him cleaning and clearing tables more than one table , I don't think he cared about customer service. So with a total of 3 employees I could see in the restaurant and a call to the manager ( no answer) I left and went to Starbucks where I should of gone to in the first place.Buyer be ware of posted signs to get you in , also employees too busy to pour a cup of coffee for customers that have been waiting in a long line. eat at your own risk at Burger Bench.Last the place was full of people and at least 20 People in line with one young lady handling the register with no help for her . I paid $15 for a hamburger and lemonade after waiting in line for several minutes to order. When the food finally arrived at the table, it consisted of a basic burger served in a small basket lined with paper. For the same price, I can get an entire meal & beverage, including tax/tip at several other local restaurants. For half that price, I can get a burger combo at a number of fast food restaurants that will satisfy my palate better than what I got at Burger Bench. I "treated" myself to a Swiss garlic burger. Although the meat was fine, the burger was dry and there was perhaps a quarter teaspoon of sauce at best. The only way the price of this burger could even remotely be justified is if it was filet mignon. read more
