The food was delicious and surprisingly flavorful! The truffle fries were crispy and my kid killed it. I got the dirty burger & dirty fries & I was eating the last bits and pieces! The meat was seasoned well. Also, my little one got their crispy chicken thigh on the side (it was like a giant chicken tender) super crispy and seasoned. They charged $3. Prices & portion were overall reasonable. You have to walk up the stairs to the second story "deck" (hence the name, lol) and it's a walk up order and pickup with 5 sit down table area and a high table looking out on the street. Parking is free but boy does it suck trying to find parking! I took down a star as they had no sign to ring a bell to order as you walk up to an unattended counter. (Which we would recommend them doing because the food is good!) We noticed at least 2 different customers waited to order but no one came up to front to take it & they end up going to the next door establishment. read more

We had 2 The Deck 3 Dirty Deck 1 Baja Deck Fries Dirty Fries Chocolate Shake Burger Deck is located in Little Italy near MCRD. Parking is on the street if and when available. The restaurant is located upstairs and we didn't see any elevator, just stairs, so this can be a hindrance for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. There is a takeout area only at the street level. What a great Fourth of July dining experience. The outdoors provided a great ambiance and the burgers were all delicious. You might bake in the sun depending on the table you choose. The patties were crisp on the edges, but juicy and flavorful in the middle. Not dry at all. The sauce complements the fresh, soft bun and melted cheese. We had leftovers and they were still delicious the next day. The chipotle aoili, ranch and jalapeño sauces paired well as a dipping sauce for the fries and burgers. We found the regular fries better than the Dirty Fries because the sauces on top made the potatoes soggy. The regular fries were thinly sliced and cooked well done, but it were still tender in the middle. The fries had a lot of flavor and appears to have a coating for the extra crunch. The consensus in our party was that it was the best burger they've had in San Diego. read more

Burger Deck is an expansion of Rubicon Deli, only focusing on burgers. They've done an excellent job making a name for themselves with sandwiches so I think we can expect good things with their burgers. Unfortunately, it's not really in a great location and we had to circle around for parking. Rubicon Deli is located downstairs and Burger Deck is upstairs. I didn't see any elevators or ramps so I hope they have some kind of handicap accessibility. It's completely outdoors with only some patio tables with umbrellas. But I bet on summer nights, the outdoor vibe is really nice. It's open seating and you have to keep your ears open for your order number being called. The Deck: I wanted to try their most basic smashburger as a comparison and thought it was pretty solid for a smashburger. The edges of the patty was slightly crispy and I think that's one of the good indicators of a smashburger. It's got all the classic burger ingredients too like tomatoes and lettuce. If you want, you can get a second patty for an additional cost. Dirty Fries: I really liked that they use skinny fries. For me, this is the best way to get a good fries to topping ratio. When the fries are too thick, there's too much potatoes and not enough flavor. The chopped pickles and pickled onions really stands out so if you're not a fan of those flavors, you might not enjoy the dirty fries too much. Onion Rings: Hands down one of the best onion rings I've had in San Diego. It's definitely closer to a tempura style and I really liked how light the batter was. It was more onion than batter, which I don't find often nowadays. Highly recommend to share! Overall, satisfied with my meal and will be back to try their other burgers! read more

This is our second time coming here and Burger Deck does not disappoint! We ordered the Baja Deck, the Dirty Deck, and the Buffalo Fries. Let me just say, the Buffalo Fries are beyond amazing. Think fully loaded crispy fries topped with buffalo chicken, chopped bacon, and a creamy blue cheese sauce. So good. And the portion sizes are extremely generous. I love a good smashburger, and this place delivers every time. The quality of the food makes it worth it. It is a little on the pricier side, but you're definitely paying for quality. They do offer draft beer, though the options are limited. The service is always professional, we're greeted warmly, and it's never overwhelmingly packed, which I appreciate. We were looking for some place new, and BD came up. They have outdoor seating, and it's in this cool little area of India Street with other restaurants and a theater space. The young girl was friendly. My friend asked a lot of questions that not only annoyed me, but her too...LOL! The Dirty Deck was really good! Nice flavors on a good bun! I liked the crispy shoestring fries. They have sodas and beer and I got a Stone Delicious, not bad. I didn't take photos of the burgers because we were so hungry and just dove in. This little spot is a deck right by Shakespeare's pub. It could be tricky to find parking if it was a particularly busy day, but we were luckily in and out. The girl working at the front counter was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the burger was great. They also had their own version of animal style fries, which I preferred with the pickled onions. I came here as I had heard that the burgers were delicious, and I can't lie and say it wasn't good. The burger was tasty, the service was a little absent, and the atmosphere was nice. Outdoor seating, umbrellas over some tables, and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Back to the service, I waited a moment (2 min, wondering at first if someone was away for a moment) and the staffer appeared from the back area, and took she took my order, which was simple enough, a couple burgers, The Deck (double smash burgers with cheese). I waited by the counter overlooking the street, and people watching, noticed of the two occupied tables only one had food, and the other table of 3, were chatting, so I was not sure if the were just hanging out or waiting, as there was another restaurant, Shakespeare's next door (their fish and chips is delicious). After about 7-10 min, I realized they were also waiting on food, so I went downstairs to order food from Rubicon, and my house had a few separate orders. I was down there for about 25 minutes, getting one sandwich, (another review, which I cut my order to only 1 sandwich, and we split at home, just due to the service). When I came back upstairs, my food didn't seem ready, but then from a side door the group had their burgers, fries and onion rings delivered hot and fresh to them with an apology that they were short staffed today. The cook, came out again and handed me my food , and offered the same apology. The connecting dot here is this was the attendant from downstairs, who seemed to be going up and downstairs, he was giving the cook a break and I believed didn't plan on it being a busy day ... Or busier than expected. The burger 4 stars, unfortunately shortcomings regardless impact especially service. I appreciated the handling, though being forthcoming at the onset would have shown concern for the client base and allowed for understanding. read more
