With so many amazing burger places in Los Angeles, it's hard to truly know what the best is, but thanks to a fantastic lunch at Burger District a few weeks back, I for sure know this place is definitely a top 5 contender for me. My wife and I were riding our bikes around the city when lunch time approached and Burger District was the place to go. We've driven by this place a ton of times and thanks to the insanely cool artwork sign on the outside, it's been somewhere we've been meaning to try for well over a year. The inside here also has some awesome artwork that was clearly hand painted and a burger menu that allows for vegetarian options on top of all the tasty looking burgers they have to offer. With so many different burgers to pick from, I struggled a bit but eventually went with the Surf & Turf thanks to the inclusion of both beef and shrimp, a dang good combination if you ask me. The burger was piping hot when it came out and every single bite was absolutely mouth wateringly delicious. The beef was super juicy, the shrimp was great, and I can't forgot to mention the french fries on the side because those bad boys were some of the best I've had since living in DTLA. Overall, Burger District has found it's way into my top 5 LA burger spots and is definitely somewhere I'll be returning to in the future. After waiting for a long time to finally try Burger District LA, I left completely disappointed. Location & Atmosphere: The restaurant is located in the Fashion District, where parking is a nightmare unless you're willing to shell out $20 for a private lot. The immediate area outside was covered in trash and reeked of urine. The location itself is tiny, run-down, and has no AC, making it uncomfortably hot inside. Seating is extremely limited to just three small tables inside and a narrow counter setup outside. Service & Food Quality: My friends and I decided to order the Surf 'N' Turf burger after seeing pictures on Yelp that made it look incredible. The food took a while to come out, which we were willing to overlook since there was only one person working the kitchen. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the wait or the pictures. As soon as I bit into my burger, I noticed a strange, off-putting aftertaste--it tasted as if an ingredient had gone bad. I couldn't tell if it was the tomatoes, the onions, or the meat itself, but something was definitely wrong. My friend had the exact same issue with his, and my other friend's patty was completely burnt. After looking into other reviews later, it turns out several people have complained about the exact same bad taste, pointing to their house sauce as the culprit. Final Verdict: Between the awful parking, unpleasant atmosphere, and downright unpalatable food, I will definitely never return. Stopped by Burger District LA, about 10 minutes from Union Station right next to Santee Alley, and this turkey burger did not disappoint. Got it with bacon and grilled onions--simple but done right. The burger was juicy, the bacon had a nice crisp, and the grilled onions brought everything together perfectly. The bun was soft with a light toast, which made every bite hit. Located in Downtown LA on a corner is this very small but very awesome burger joint. Man, between this place and Amboy, the residents and workers of DTLA are spoiled for choice when looking for a top notch burger. I am sure that parking can be difficult here many times during the day and weekend, but I found a metered spot right across the street, so it was my lucky day. They have a happy hour special where you get a single patty cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for under $10. You can add to them, so we each added a patty and bacon. We skipped the pickles and District Sauce, which is just their version of the standard Los Angeles thousand island-type sauce that is on In-and-Out and every other burger in town. I always get this on the side, as I prefer ketchup, and was glad I did because I really didn't like their sauce when I tried it with a french fry. The burger itself - which is indicated as halal in case you are interested, is amazing. The meat is such high quality. I was in love from the first bite. For what looks like a dive inside with just like four small tables, seems to be one of Los Angeles' top burger joints. I've wanted to try this for ever and kept putting it off because of my fear of finding parking. So, I went with a turkey burger with mushrooms and avocado and a small fries which was on sale, 2 for 1, lucky day. I can't speak on the service and ambience since I had it delivered, but the food was so good! The fries were the best I have ever tasted. I actually ate both orders in one sitting. The restaurant is located on the corner of Santee/9th st in downtown. The ambiance is pretty cool with great art and color. The cashier was extremely patient and helped me decide on what to order. They did put a nice amount of shrimp on the burger. The onion rings tasted ok. I only ate half and made myself finish the burger. Customer service was ok at best. I asked for one of the tables outside to be cleaned and it didn't happen. The location is it's a bustling area on santee/9th street, so you'll see many weird characters walking around and store vendors everywhere. So glad we stumbled upon this place because it was also near a bunch of other cool spots to try! It is a kind of small shop with maybe 4-5 tables to sit on, so I would recommend getting take out. We were travelling and were only able to eat the burgers a few hours later and it still tasted phenomenal! I was a bit worried that it may not taste as good if it isn't fresh and warm, but I was pleasantly surprised, when everything was still fresh and delicious almost 5 hours later! The servers were very nice and welcoming. They were flexible with the dishes and were open to most substitutions. When we were struggling to decide which burger to order, they kindly gave us the menu with photos of each burger to help us decide! I ordered the chicken aioli burger and it was definitely a hit! It was the right amount of flavorful and was perfectly juicy. The Threefle burger was also great! We got one of the patties on the side to eat later in case the two patties are too filling! They also gave us chipotle aioli sauce on the side for free! Since a lot of restaurants charge for sauce on the side, I was super happy to find out they offer sauce for free! The sauces were also fresh and tasted home made! They also mention that all their food is made to order and they are not a fast food restaurant so it does typically take 10-15 minutes for the orders to be ready. There is also no AC , so the only air is coming through the open doors. Staff was nice and quick on getting our food out. We got their truffle burger (Threefle) with a side of fries. HONEST review. MAYBE 3.25/3.5 stars I ordered the surf and turf burger combo. Cost me $21.40 When I first received it. It looked decent. Only to find out the burger patty was soo thin. Burger District is a great place to go for lunch, especially if you are in the Santee Alley/shopping district area. My wife and I found this place after a full morning of shopping and needed someplace to sit down and recharge. This place did not disappoint! The burgers were all cooked perfectly and were nice and juicy without being rare. The sauce that they put on is very delicious, I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it tasted great. The fries and onion rings were pretty standard, much like most restaurants, but still very good. The burgers do take a bit of time to get out to you, but that is because it is made fresh right there and it is well worth the wait. Overall, we enjoyed the food immensely, and we enjoyed sitting outside people watching while we sat at an outside table. There isn't a lot of seating inside or outside, but people seem to cycle through pretty quickly and we never had to wait nor did we see anybody waiting while we were there. Inside there's maybe room for 5 parties, and some outside seating. That said, after a night of partying when you need something in your stomach... this place is amazing!
